    interesting video thanks for posting, thats a very sharp blade too what brand are you using - wilton is a beast on the blades, same as axminster !

    Hope you double back to the gripper carpet fitter myself with Wiltons you have to I find cutting straight blade easier

    It is called Wilton everywhere as that refers to the manufacturer that developed that type of carpet. It is however not a true Wilton as they are high end carpets and that clearly isn't.
    Genuine Wilton is also easy to stretch, cut and fit for a good fitter. Lastly, in a high end installation you would never cut with a hook or scrape your bolster against the skirting, it marks it.

      Cutting with a hook don’t mark the skirting. That’s if you know how to use it.

    Would you be able to explain a little more on how the knife angle determines the correct cut , I'm guessing the more vertical the knife is the knife is the less you have to tuck behind the gripper?

    • @TrimTuckCarpets
      @TrimTuckCarpets  5 лет назад +3

      peter fido the knife would have to be at a vertical position as it’s it straight you will damage the skirting. The way you determine whether you want enough to tuck in or leave it short etc then this judged by the height of your knife the higher you bring it up the more you have left the lower you bring it down the less carpet you have. Bit tricky to understand but once you get the hang of it you’ll be fine ! Also just a side tip if you’re fitting carpet it’s always best to stretch on to the grippers 1st and then trim and tuck accordingly. (Side note )

    Can you show angle of nose next to baseboard to see. I am afraid of scratching it if i do that.

      boxofwisdow thanks man, I only use one knife which is either called marlin, shark or dolphin. It’s more the angle of cutting that matters tbh

    I must be very old shool, because I would never fit an Axi or Wilton without latexing the back and double gripper, doubt carpets fitters these days have ever heard of Copydex.

    It’s what I’ve been using for over 30 years. You just get a feel with a hooked blade. Customers would look at the blade and wonder what it was 😂
