@Quintus Horatius Flaccus Great point. For someone like me, it would be enough ... I would be happy to fund the next generation product through a purchase ... if they could get it up to Max-Lumi size!
@Quintus Horatius Flaccus maybe I misunderstood... if we were to use this in sunlight, it would be fine, right? If the color doesn't show up well in sunlight, that would be a deal breaker.
I would love to have something like Remarkable2 with color. Usually I do notes from my books reading, or math, writing down ideas or some sort of diagrams, but in my work I often had to create some geometry based algorithm to solve given problems and then colors come in handy. So again, Remarkable + color would be perfect combo
That’s definitely interesting and may be coming one day for sure the hardware of the remarkable is really good I really like it.... I am anxious to see what Sony comes up with two with their new device is coming soon
Same here. I would want a notebook to plan my week without all the distractions of apps, bells & whistles. Shapes, lines, and freehand writing with different colors that sync to the cloud of your choosing would be ideal.
I use RM2 for storyboarding and the low-lag drawing is incredible for eInk. That said, I really could use just one or two colors (in addition to highlighter/gray) to make the storyboards easier to follow. Would definitely check out RM + color.
Such quality content from this channel- I feel I can always rely on your feedback since it's so honest. Thanks for showing us a closer look into nova 3 colour :)
Hey JB - thanks for using the Noris Jumbo. I've got the Nova3 Color & have been using it everyday for just over a week. For me it works really well for taking notes & reading papers / kindle books - and no kindle support was a draw back with devices like the remarkable. I also really like the size - easy to take everywhere & I think Boox did a good job with the case... no sticky back nonsense 😃 Also got my Nova to sync nicely with Evernote which is a nice touch.
Awesome thanks so much for giving me the good feedback I was a little worried first couple days but it’s not a really bad device it’s actually kind of cool you definitely need some improvements but what doesn’t thanks so much as always
I have an Ipad, I have an XPS touch screen, and I want a reMarkable 2 so bad. However, I am still hesitating because it is only black and white, I want a colorful e-ink, so I am considering the Boox Nova color. But watching the video with 2 devices next to each other, the screen quality of the reMarkable definitely appears much more advanced than the Nova color. I think I should wait a bit more to have a colorful reMarkable.
Watch the review of my deep guide. The nova 3 color is in the top 3 of responsiveness and can write almost as good as remarkable. Since color e-ink is such an obscure researched field, remarkable probably won't adapt it any time soon (or ever)
hey, the ebook READERS are for reading books, reading the newspapers, RSS feeders, see graphics, diagrams in colors, see photos in colors, mark texts with colors, mark photos with texts, arrows, is about protecting the eyes when you stay a lot on reading. We do need colors and I hope the performance will be improved in time. We need the electronic color paper. If you read science you need to see a lot of colors. Maybe I want to see a medical/anatomy picture or drawing. These devices are not for replacing laptops, graphic design tablets, game devices and other power intensive tools. These are for reading a week or a month with a single charge, not to stay charging them at a few hours. With a powerbank you can go in mountains for a month and read books/news and hiking. Are you making these reviews for kids under 6 years? I'm so happy that they are working to introduce colors on the epaper, and that's all you have to say, that you can't draw, that is not like a laptop and all kind of kids stupidities? These tools were never intended/made for drawing or do professional color desings, these tools are for READING and protect your eyes. Those things you are talking about are just some bonuses and utilities, but not the main target.
I just got my Nova3. I have a ReMarkable 2 and I am familiar with android because I have a note 10 phone. So far, I hate this device. The Todo app will not start. I can't find the manual that was somewhere on the device when I first started it. It was cumbersome to use Google Play store. Nothing about it seems intuitive. Templates are limited, and I don't want anything odd. I bought it to use as a reader because I can read Kindle, Nook and Google books on one eInk device. After using the ReMarkable for a couple of years, the writing feels aweful. I hope it works well as a reader because that is all I will use it for. I'm glad I didn't spend the extra to get the color version. I think the ReMarkable spoiled me, so I am giving it a little more time. My first impression was not good.
Unfortunately for the Nova Color I have to agree. I purchased the Nova 3 color second-hand but in as new cond... I think I know why the person I bought it off sold it almost immediately! Writing experience is not great at all. If the Remarkable 2 is a lot better for notes/writing the I think I'll sell this for the Remarkable. Nice try I guess Nova.
@@funzie11 these tools are not for graphic designers or gamers, these tools are for reading, for reading books, news, newspapers ... these tools are ebook readers guys .... not tablets .... are for marking some text with colors, make some notes, see some graphics, see some pictures in the books or newspapers or interent, that's all. Hello wake up, grow up, buy a tablet if you are a restless kid or a designer.
@MorningCoach, I could see people using these for retro comic reading. The differences from high contrast "eye candy" screens to print seem to make it so you live in your head more when you read print. For those who think you we will eventually have e-ink ipads, I think they should just buy an ipad. I think the companies who do well with e-ink will recognize that their market will never be mass market. I have a Garmin Fenix 3 HR Sapphire watch, which has a Garmin Chroma Display which looks like e-ink to me. By worrying more about battery, readability, it's way more useful to me than a do-everything watch and even after years of ownership, I charge it about 1x a week.
Looks like a really nice device the fact it has Android was something I never expected in a good way. Very very tempted to buy it. Thanks for the great video.
It may not be so far off before color improves, but current e-ink will be around for a while. Hey, the pencil has been around since the 1600s, so I am in for the long term with my remarkable.
Hello JB, nice video as always. Did you change lighting? It seems brighter to me and it looks nice. This color e-ink device is nothing for me, I would rather have 2 separete devices, but it is nice progress in digital revolution. Soon it might beat iPad, especially with battery life.
Are you comparing it to remarkable or IPad? Sure the question isn’t weather it can replace iPad- the overwhelming theme I’m seeing is people saying that they love the experience and feel of remarkable but want some colour! I’m disappointed that your first critique was that the brightness is too low (e-ink is all about utilising reflected light and saving on battery life right?) then you put a screen protector on and complained about the gap between pen and paper? I’d love to see a video that explores weather this is the next step for e-ink and not the many ways that this isn’t an iPad.
Boat navigation and sailboat racing info displays are expensive. What’s emerging is the use of tablets to replace the dedicated instrument monitors. E ink works best in bright sunlight. There’s a market for large waterproof e ink screens waiting to run Android and Apple apps. And at work … my senior patients don’t like signing signature pads but e ink tablets are more like paper and i don’t add to my physical files. Color will be great as I can show patients things in color with out presenting paperwork or pamphlets that’ll go in the trash.
Great video. I am a little conflicted about color e-ink though because I thought that the whole purpose of having e-ink devices is that they would be better for our eyes when reading. But if the colors are too bright etc. won’t that defeat the purpose? That is why I think that they have the colors a little dull and etc. to try to be light on the eyes. I could be wrong, but that’s definitely what’s on my mind right now.
It's not necessarily the brightness or brightness of colors that is a huge strain on eyes, especially since you can adjust brightness. With e-readers, like the kindle that use technology creating a look similar to "newspaper", a huge reason why it looks like that isn't just because it's black and white but because they use "E-ink" technology. For example, most tablets use LCD screens which can be harmful on eyes. Even further, the type of backlight used by tablets can vary, some more damaging to the human eye than others. With E-readers such as the kindle paperwhite, a technology called "E-ink" is used. It is totally different than LCD backlit displays. The products shown here in the video use a newer technology called Colored E-ink, which to be really simple is a colored version of E-ink. Better for your eyes but now in color! I suggest looking into what E-ink is and how it works, that might give you more insight. Hope this helps!
I made dinner tonight following a recipe on the Nova 3 Color. I could have done the same with an iPad mini. Readability and color were great on the eInk screen. I think the iPad experience is slightly better in this use case example but the difference is really minor.
Great video. Very nice topic to talk about. Is Kaleido the right technology for e-ink color? There are other color technologies like ACep etc that are not ready for prime time too. Kaleido will soon release version 3 that is built for bigger tablets this coming June. I am not expecting too much from that version as well. Most likely it will be higher than 100ppi that Kaleido plus (2.5) is currently capable of.
Thanks gee!!!!! Appreciate the kind words hopefully I’ll get my hands on a few so I can do some reviews I’m having fun for sure and people like you make it worthwhile
What looked the most interesting was the thick color line writing you brought up in one of your notebooks. Would have liked to see a demonstration of that writing, not the fine line writing you mostly did, which wasn't readable here. Also, colors seemed more rich at lower brightness, but most of the time you were cranked to 100% brightness. Burned out my tired eyeballs. 🤣
HAHAHAH yes it is SO DARK without the brightness the camera is picking up the light but I can hardly even see it LOL - that was a brush it is OK writing - just something off with it - more coming soon I promise - I will turn down the brightness but it is DARK LOL
Color isn’t there yet. I can see how it could enhance not taking but for replacement for and iPad it may never get to that quality of display. I like the Boox platform because it has a really good search function. I can search all my notes for a phrase or key word and get my notes for that word or phrase. For me, that’s what notes are for, a replacement for my addled brain. :0). As a side note, I am checking out Notion. It looks like a great way to collect and store research info
Hey Mark thanks so much for the comment notion is really taking off I don’t use it already got systems but for sure there is some workflow ideas there that are pretty powerful

I would love that too I think the next version of color may be the one - Thanks for the support of the channel really appreciate it and I’ll do my best to keep on top of it
The close-ups are nice. I definitively see note-taking with (few) colors useful [like having one of those multi-colored pens]. Actually, for this task, I don't see the need for a full gamut, so, competing w/ LCD does not make sense to me - unless one wants a more capable device, but then quite frankly, an LCD tablet would be much better (i.e. for video, coloring, full drawing experience w/ color, etc)
I love the papyr, but I have to have color for notes and organization. I love being able to link to google drive though. Which E ink color would you recommend? Or should I wait?
Personally I don’t need a color e-ink as this is not the reason why I use e-ink devices in the first place. If I want to watch something in color I would always use my iPad. Therefore I don’t think That they will ever market to people like myself. I’m only using my e-ink devices for writing. And color is not needed for my use case.
I tend to agree I don’t really need it I bought this one because I wanted to see I guess it could be pretty cool at some point but I have my iPad for media consumption
