1:40 foreshadows a sequel on the Gamecube. (originally called Project: Dolphin) I wonder if Cranky was holding auditions for who would be in that said sequel... Which leads me to wonder if old Rare really had one planned, or if this was all just a gag. I hope we find out in an interview someday!
The nostalgia held for what tech they had to work with & as well as sound bytes is the cleverness I love within Rare like the tell tale lego games.. The possibility of seeing a platformer like that on GameCube would have been very cool to see

Actually, you *DON'T* need to get all the colored bananas to achieve 101%. You just need to collect enough to get each Banana Medal and enough to face each world boss. Everything else (Golden Bananas, Blueprints, Keys, Crowns, Fairies, and both Special Coins) needs to be collected
Okay, after all these years I'm finally confirming for myself that the audition sequence was the hidden ending. I only played through this game once, in about 2002, and got 101%, so I was never quite sure, haha.

The 101% ending with the auditions never made any sense for me as an ending for getting all Golden Bananas. I think it works better if this was the startup introduction instead of the DK Rap. in my opinion the DK Rap should have been the 101% ending instead of the auditions.
K.Rool gets punch-drunk, K.Rool gets a raging hardon for Candy Kong, Funky Kong gives him a boot-ride outta here, K.Rool gets chased by K.Lumsy, K.Lumsy trips and accidentally grabs this Kremling King, everyone's happy, whatever.
Nah, in the 100% Ending, K. Rool wakes up after getting decked from a Primate Punch by Chunky, going for the kill but gets thrown off by Candy Kong. After that distraction works, Funky Kong shows up with his B.O.O.T Cannon, shooting K. Rool right in the crocky behind and that lands him in K. Lumsy's cage. And boy does K. Lumsy get ANNOYED. He punts the dude right outta both Crocodile Isle AND D.K. Isle, never to be seen again

Golden bananas, banana medals, banana fairies, battle crowns, boss keys, and the Nintendo/Rareware coins are the only collectibles in the game that actually count towards your percentage, not regular bananas.

Yea, we are talking about the secret ending, and I just sent you a link showing a run where the player does not get all 3500 bananas and yet unlocks the secret ending. Your claim was that you need all 500 bananas in each level to unlock it, but clearly that is false.

I never realised that! I’d say that before the acquisition of Rare my Microsoft, there was a sequel to DK64 in the planning stages at some point.
Now I’m sad we never got another 3D Donkey Kong game.
