      PREPAREDMIND101 these finnish army issue knives are currently the best bang for your buck on the mkt!!
      the finns and scandis in general are born into carrying a knife from a very early ages! so by times they reach natl service ages or scandi army finnish military entry the army itself rarely places any pre conditions on what knife they must use often their choices is left to be entirely personal they are allowed to carry non issue knives their army figures that if you do not choose well what type of knife to bring to your survival activity party in sub arctic conds it is only you who will suffer this jakaripuuko
      is one of the most popular standard issue knives to the skandi mil and natl service recruits
      it is made of rubberised grip to increase its comfort to hand grip in sub arctic conds of snow wind insulating users hand from cold of the steel blade in minus freezing cold conds!
      the pommel can be used as a glass smasher or lanyard holder
      the sheath is an asset to this knife as is very well made out of thicker leather than usual and is far superior to the kydex option
      more comfy next to your leg or skin more forgiving etc
      the ship very reasonably and as you say the stockists inventory is either in stock up or out of stock down!!
      if you do not order a sheath it costs you only $29 for the knife aprox $7-9 for delivery from finland within 2weeks of ordering
      cheaper faster than i can get it posted to me here in europe!!
      so stop bitchn america!!
      its a sub $60 bushcraft knife that is a real users beaters knife that outclasses many of its far more expensive rivals up to $200 ranges
      so grab it while you still can finland might get invaded by the russians soon!!
      then youll just get a deep guttural impatient gruff husky rusky voice pick on tel line other ends as stockist staff are bound gagd tied in the stockroom
      before spetnaz cut wires to this remote corner of finland your call phoneline goes dead before even ordering!
      the other thing to watchout for is the nurven basha or poncho
      its pricey as hell $150 or more but has a thermally reflective interior breathable waterproof poncho
      in camoflauge mt lichen
      print design
      it is issued to all of their sfs
      and is now being used by sas and others on high arctic patrols for gen insulative shelter heat retention weather protection and camouflage the quality is excellent and this unusual but high quality tarp poncho can be closed off on all x4 sides using top grade zips!
      as a protective bag around a hammock or of weather winds rains alters direction at random at night you can zip up against elements
      alter configurations
      from any angle!!
      try getn a fluffy windguard for your mike may make it tad betr during windy conds if dog dont chew it off or it drops off in forest n you lose it!!
      winters dragn this year we cant complain tho been pretty good here so far
      no majors no epics
      yet!!
      you need to make yerself up a waistcoat like blade
      the movie that latino
      knifethrower like in desperado then boldly waltz through airport scanners i will film securitys reaction as you blatantly explain the reason you carry like so many knives is just because you are a psychopathic serial killer
      watch their little health n safety matrix trained brainwashed reactions
      we had a lad in uk here today stabbed up 12 times for intervening in preventing a woman be attacked
      police are hot on citywides knifecrime at moment gang related but it is knokn effects on to the ord inmocent bushcrafter community
      guys are now having to conceal axes within packs hide knives outa sight until in area with no peoples in case they are perceived by joe public as a threat
      not a issue in usa
      everybodys armed to the hilt!
      anyways
      hehe
      as per norm
      soon these eu union bastards will be coming for the knives aswell as the guns!
      so i advocate getn yers now!!
      whilst the goings good cuz the
      futures aint to bright!

      PREPAREDMIND101 scandy army get to choose what knife they take out into the field no restrictions usually placed on them many choose this make model of puuko!
      if you choose a bad knife finnish army reckons only you shall suffer in any survival situ so it self regulates itself!! i like their liberal approaches they also do joint sex patrols man n woman border patrols contra russians!!

    Because my family is half Finnish, I have been using pukko knives all my life, and I'm 62. I always thought they were just about all you'd need in a belt/ camp knife...now all these years later, it seems as though the rest of the world is finally discovering them. It's great. Good review.

      If only they could negotiate a deal with Terava for straight, evenly ground knives.
      It's a great design, but its excution (on mine) is terribly sloppy.
      Varusteleka is well aware and ships out the hackjob blades anyway.

    I have to say, I love the Scandinavian principles behind their knives. Simple, nothing fancy, just a friggin' knife that can do knife stuff. Sharp and no gimmicks. We all spend so much time gawking and coveting custom knives that we are all, generally speaking, too afraid to actually use. These knives are much cheaper and honestly function as good as any other knife I've ever owned. We get carried away with our custom knives. It can get silly. It's like paying $400 for a custom hammer and then being afraid to use it because it'll get dings and scratches. None of us (I hope) would do that but many of us feel exactly that way about our knives. I don't own one of the Terava's but, based on what I know about Mora's, their reputation and reviews like this, I'm looking forward to getting one. (once I can't get anymore out of the two mora's I currently use that is).

  • @MichaelTravis12c27

    Chris. The knife by itself is about $25-30. With the sheath it's about $55. Shipping from Finland is a flat $9.99. It fluctuates a little bit with the exchange rate but it stays pretty close. I love every single knife I've gotten from them. The Skrama, the 110 and 140, the mini Skrama and mini puukko, they all are awesome.

      The price I quoted was with sheath and shipping, which is what I'd recommend. The sheath is too good not to get. Have you messed with the stainless ones?

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27 7 лет назад +4

      I recommend the sheath as well. It's well worth the money unless you are a leather worker or kydex guy. Then the price of this knife is an absolute steal! I haven't messed with the stainless yet. But I fully intend to. They use German X55CrMo14 which they say is close in performance to 12c27.

    I love my Jaakaripukko had it over a year, along with the Skrama. Both make a perfect pair for use in hard and soft woods. I have no problems of using instead of some of my custom knives. When I do my trips abroad and don't want to take an expensive knive but want a great one I have no problem of reaching straight of the Terava knives. I has handled all the jobs I have thrown at it with no trouble at all.

  • @msilverhammer
    @msilverhammer 7 лет назад +6

    I have been telling you about this knife for awhile, and it looks now we are in total agreement!
    In addition to being a Mora Garberg Killer, it is also a Sospes Killer, sorry Will, a Native Survival Knife Killer, sorry Mitch, and a Feral Woodcraft Black Feather Knife Killer, sorry Joe!
    I have to tell it like it is.
    Actually, all of the aforementioned knives are good knives, but the Terava Jaakaripuukko is so well priced and comes with such a great sheath for under $100 delivered, that it just has so much more value than the other knives mentioned which cost twice as much or more.
    Like I have said before, all you need is a Terava Skrama, a Terava Jaakaripuukko, and perhaps an axe/hatchet, and a Silky Saw, and you have all of the bases covered.
    You probably don't even need the axe, unless you are planning to pull a Paul Bunyan or something to that effect.

    Chris very impressive Bushcraft Knife, I particularly like the fact that it is not thickly coated with some kind of black material that I have to spend time and money removing. Which is something I picked up from you and it is the right thing to do, thanks for helping me evolve my coating removal technique. As much as I like this knife, as you have demonstrated it, I do love my Schrade SCHF52, which I got because of you, and it is a winner so it stands to reason you are so right about this knife. So far Chris my experience is that you, to me are batting one hundred percent, as I have bought a collection of knives you have inspired me to buy and I am NEVER disappointed. The product you use on the sheath looks like real good stuff, I have for decades used Mink Oil, sometimes I soften it with a torch, you have to be careful, if it's too hot you can damage leather, it can sort of burn it. But I have had great success with that, I put it on my leather boots, athletic shoes, tool pouch, it helps to make everything water proof and softens/conditions the leather.
    Anyway, I hope to get one of these fine knives as well. Always look forward to your reviews, please keep doing what you do.

    Price is 60 euros for the 140 mm including the sheath. Mine arrived after about a week with some other goodies as the shop charges a standard transport fee per order, not per item. I now have some Finnish military socks. :-)
    And yeah, this is really a good knife. Tip: I saw someone smoothing out the remnants of the heat treat on the flat of the blade with fine grit steel wool, and I did that, it really improves it. After you rubbed the rough stuff off there remains what is more like a dark patina.
    My impression after a few days of light use is one of brutal efficiency, no nonsense, no extras, no embellishments. It's a tool. Period. It Just Works.
    Keep up the good work. Wind and all. ;-)

If you need to get pine sap or adhesive or just about anything off of something that has some plastic or rubber go to Home Depot to the cleaning aisle and pick up a can of Pure Citrus Orange. They sell it as a room deodorant but it's orange oil and takes stuff off almost as good as Goof Off or Goo Gone while not melting plastic.

    I ordered mine today, but I could only get the knife first but I am getting the sheath next month. I can't wait to get my hands on the knife. Maybe I will get the big brother. I am very stoked on getting this knife as my EDC.

    I learned about Obenauf's after sending in a pair of used Russell Moccasin Boots I purchased off Ebay back to Russell for refurb. They sent them back like new with a can of Obenauf's LP and instructions on how to care for their boots. I use that stuff on every piece of leather gear I own.. Belts, Gloves, Sheaths, Rifle slings, ect. Its the best leather conditioner and water proof treatment you can apply to leather.

    It's definitely not a mora killer or even a mora injurer regardless of how well the knife performs, it's are too hard to get and moraknivs practically grow on trees. That also means this knife is going to be hard to replace and no knife no matter how durable is immune to theft or being lost or accidental damage( just chipped my knife on some chicken wire that became embedded into a tree and I didn't see until it was too late).

  • @timbo4374

    For those who give a shit, yes, you can throw sparks off the spine with a piece of flint,chert, or quartz and in fact, it works really good for that. 80CRV2 is a high carbon tool steel so not a problem.

    I know that you have corrected the spine! but having just brought one of these knives myself I found that the spine gets sharper about a third of the way down making it more comfortable on tour thumb to choke up on yet sharp enough to throw sparks Lower down toward the tip. not sure if this is a design feature but something I personally like. also I sharpened the blade and took that small secondary bevel out which I found really brought out that Scandi grind and made the knife super effective. though I did buy the knife without the sheath as it was not in stock and made my own, very similar to the way they make theirs with the plastic inlay but I added a Ferro rod holder and strop on the back. would be happy to send you pictures if you are interested.

I love your reviews Chris but I gotta say that the Jessica X isn't as sexy to me like the skrama. Still a nice knife. I think I'll add her to my collection anyways cause she's also a beast of a knife.

    Hey Chris, great video man! I have the 140mm knife and I love it (the 110 was out of stock). I really love this knife and I'm so glad you have reviewed it. Btw, Terava also offers a stainless version of both the 110 and 140 knives, so in essence they offer 4 variations of this knife.

    Nice review Chris ~ because of you they've been out of stock for the last 4 months! After 3 tries I finally got mine. I couldn't decide on the 110 or 140, so I ordered both. They arrived 11 days later. Great knives & so much beefier than my Mora Bushcrafts.

      Which one is better? 110 or 140?

    • @tahnjr
      @tahnjr Год назад

      @Raz Biton Both are great. "Better" depends on the task the knife is used for, and *your* skill level.

    • @razbiton173
      @razbiton173 Год назад

      @@tahnjr I need an all around knife and I have little to no skill.
      For example Buck 110 is a bit too short to me.

    • @tahnjr
      @tahnjr Год назад

      @Raz Biton There is only about an inch difference between the 110 and 140. The Buck 110 has a 3.75" blade, the 110 Puuko 4.3". Shorter blades are easier to handle, especially when developing your skills. But it all depends on how you plan to use your knife. If you are planning to develop "survival" skills, a longer blade like the 140 would be better. But if this is your first fixed blade, I'd go with the 110.

      @@tahnjr i have a gerber strongarm but i find the handle to be not really comfortable and the steal although stainless its a very basic steel that needs to be sharpened a lot. The length of the strongarm is fine but ill be ok with even a little longer than that

  • @xnbomb

    It is an interesting option. You tested the shorter version (110 mm = 4 1/3 inch blade), but there is also a longer one in this model (140 mm = 5 1/2 inch blade). I think it was designed for the Finnish military, much like some of the Fällkniven knives are for the Swedish. These are quite a bit more affordable than the equivalent Fällknivens though. Other than the difference in blade steel (the carbon 80CrV2 versus stainless laminated VG10) its a similar product, but quite a bit cheaper ... so pretty impressive value.
