      @Miller Peyton ,oh it is,easily able to be sharpen on a wet stone if you get your angles right, I did mine last Friday an its,about as sharp as when I got it out of the box, I did my own patina on it too with vinegar, seems work pretty good, I love this knife

    Something I really love about how they sell these knives separately from the sheaths is that if the knife takes wear you can replace it without the expense of a new sheath, and if the sheath takes wear you can replace it - and not at a ridiculous markup like some companies that automatically sell them as a set place on “replacement sheaths”.
    Also, if you’re a Kydex junky, no paying for a sheath that you won’t use anyway.

    I bought mine about 6 months ago based on Chris' description of the sheath. Fantastic knife- sheath alone is easily worth the $60 they charge for the whole rig. And only $10 to ship it here from Finland.
    Killer!
    Oh and they will notify you when it restocks if you leave ur email.

    I just got mine last month after waiting 2 months for it to be in stock. I love the sheath, with the snap on and on your belt if you pull it, it will release from the sheath but will never just come out. Thanks Chris for your review of this blade it's why I bought it. Peace

    This is my go to war puukko, being from Finland puukko is my natural choise. Love the 80crV2 made by Laurin metalli in Kauhava Finland. 80crV2 takes an really smooth and razor sharp edge if you have fine stones and strops with componds, but works just as well with rough toothy edge. Before this knife was out i was using Ahti and woods knives, both use the same steel that the terävä jääkäripuukko uses, and i was hoping for someone making a bigger full tang puukko of this steel and here it is. Been using my jääkäripuukko 140 for an year and half now. Love it.

    Got mine in the mail last week. Great deal, no frills, simple but substantial. The sheath is again very simple but beautifully done. Both knife & sheath are a good example of 'Less is More'. Must be a European thing, Mora & Opinel have the same thing going on for them. $30 w/o sheath; $55 knife w/ sheath; +$10 for SS; $10 shipping.

    Good video guys! Thanks for the budget stuff.
    A new batch comes out average every 3 months....the 110 and 140 are both $29.99 USD with the plastic cover each or $55 USD with the leather sheath. plus $10 shipping on your order....so if you buy 10 items in one order from the Varusteleka website, it still only costs $10 for shipping...so I suggest you buy all 3 knives at the same time....and if you're right handed, get them with the sheaths.

    The 110 compliments other tools well and plenty of knife enough. Its size is just right. The 140 is more knife and best seen as a stand alone tool, the one to take when not taking much else.
    These two are good knives, perfect spare or share if you already have your custom or high ticket price special. Or get one while you decide what mega bucks personalise wonder knife that you dream of getting one day.
    A 140 and a Silky F180 and you have a survival woods sharps system. Best bit no weight at all.
    I too like a good patch knife which should be thin and super keen sharp, but they aren't built for rough and tough. Compliment with a 110/140 and you have it covered.
    Anyhow, just pleased the words got out.

    • @EattinThurs61
      @EattinThurs61 6 лет назад +1

      Mr. Shlock sissipuukko is the forerunner which jääkeripuukko tries to outcompete. During military service one is allowed to bring ones own knive (since it was proven that puukkos can kill during the wars ) and none is given so conscripts, and officers, get one that is sort of military style and those are the prime target groups for this, Martinis whatever the name is and the Sissipuukko. The Sissipuukko is much more expensive but have a phenomenal leather sheath with a roller locking system so one can have the knife upside down and still pull it quickly. Sissi- is rangers that maybe operate behind enemy lines on long patrols. Jäkkari is like Jaeger in German= Rangers. The Finnish language have no G's (nor B's) but plenty of K's. If Finnish Rangers buy it, it is good...Have always in mind that Finnish products work well in cold. In cold weather use drawcuts as it is much more safe for the cold stiff hands. (hence the lack of finger guard on Nordic and other subarctic and arctic knives).

    Sorry for the noob question but they have carbon steel and a stainless steel in the shop. Carbon is usually gets out of stock quickly. If I'm not mistaken the ones you use are carbon. What is the difference briefly? I can see the carbon is cheaper.

      @misscasualty 7 лет назад +3

      Dani Steinberg Carbon steel needs to be oiled also and kept dry, no storing it in a leather sheath either. I personally like some patina porn, some shmexy shizz. Stainless is harder to sharpen but harder to rust, less maintenance. People complain about carbon steel upkeep but it's really not that bad, takes a few seconds to dry and oil.

    • @whengrapespop5728
      @whengrapespop5728 5 лет назад

      Dani Steinberg
      If Carbon vs Stainless were to be compared to clay, carbon would be soft clay while stainless would be furnaces clay. Each are good according to their use, but stainless might chip easier if it’s used for the same things as a carbon steel knife, while carbon might deform easier if used in ways it shouldn’t. As a carbon steel edge is more likely to be “pushed” than to chip, it’s also previewed as easier to sharpen/strop, or “push back”, while stainless is harder to Teagarden once it gets dull, but holds an edge well if “touched up” frequently.
      In summary, you can be more reckless with a carbon steel as the whole blade handles tension, stress and impact better (more flexible), and is easier to maintain (though you have to invest more time in maintenance), while a stainless steel requires less maintenance (though should be touched up more often), handles winter, saltwater and fishing tasks well, yet you’d have to work a lot harder to repair it if the edge chips. Some people enjoy piling their carbon steel by the campfire, while others would prefer to not worry about their knife at all.

    ty for doing this vid; i couldnt decide which one i wanted. seeing this one after seeing the 110 it helped me decide. I want the 110. but where does everybody get so cheaply? on the site they are approx $59 euros (around $69 USD) plus $10 USD shipping to US. but everybody that reviews them gives the price bet $40 & $50 US.

    is the knife you are using the SS or carbon steel version. I have been trying to order the carbon one for months now but they are all on back-order. is it really that big a diff between CS and SS?

      John High He's testing the carbon steel versions. 80CrV2. Wonderful steel. The stainless is good too, but since I'm in Michigan, salt water is a non issue; I just wipe down my carbon blades at the end of the day and that's been good enough. If you lived on the coasts, or in a high humidity environment, you may want to choose stainless.

    How big are your and Will's hands? I wear XL gloves (and depending on manufacturer, sometimes still find them tight) so I worry about handle being too short for me.

      I have a 140 and my glove size is 'tight XL' as well (long fingers). No problem at all, perfect fit. Built by Vikings for Vikings with big hands, I guess. ;-)

    Now that you've had both for awhile, do you still favor the 110 over the 140?

    What's up with the thumb thing on the knife spine? I can't seem to find the vid where what that means is discussed. And I agree, a survival knife should have some tactical abilities, survival doesn't just mean lost in the wilderness, could also mean downed military pilot in enemy territory, urban survival during civil unrest (survival includes outside the U.S.) etc.

      +Mt. Baldwin Will likes rules. Depending on the knife I'm using, I sometimes have my thumb on the spine while doing feathersticking.
