Josh, I’m not even looking at the R5 MkII, I just watch your videos for entertainment. 😅 Stellar testing, concise summarization all wrapped in a super non dramatized fun to watch style. Just nerding out on gear, love it! 👏🏻
I've been watching your channel for a while, but I finally now subscribed! It's interesting to see the difference in noise between the two cameras, with the R5C showing less chroma noise in different ISO's. Thank you!
Great job, Josh! How do you find the shooting experience with the Canon R5 Mark II compared to the Sony FX3? Also, do you think the R5 Mark II is well-suited for travel documentary work/Short films
Pros and cons like with everything. FX3 is way more video focused and will never overheat. I think you can use a lot of different cameras for travel docs and short films. I think the strength of the R5II is as a hybrid photo/video camera, but not a dedicated video camera.
The R5ii is so much better for video than the r5. Not only does the af need so much less handholding than the r5, you can now record in xf-avc which means editing video is so so much easier. And I basically treat iso 4000 as a base iso because it's so clean so it beats out the r5's informal 3200
Great video. I know I’ve complained a lot about mixed media storage in canon cameras, but when you consider that CFE B cards are faster and cheaper than their V90 SD counterparts, that really opened my eyes. Can one record to an external recorder and the CFE B slot at the same time?
In terms of image quality in Clog 2, stabilization, autofocus, battery life, these two cameras are simply incomparable. Try to lighten the shadows on the R5C and you'll get a ruined image.
@@vizprodukcija7728 I'm in the market for the R52. Are you saying the R52 is much better when it comes to retaining details in shadows with clog2? Better dynamic range?
Happy with my R5c … I only hope there will be an R5c II with better autofocus, a little better dynamic range (Clog 2) and maybe a stacked BSI sensor .. that would make it nearly perfect in my opinion.
Shocking good real world results! I was a little surprised at how much noise was in the shadows at iso 800 on both cameras in the controlled studio test (specifically looking at the 600%)...IDK if you have a video explaining that but i was most perplexed. I had seen similar noise at Base iso on my a6700 in a properly lit and exposed scene and figured i was just doing something wrong :p
Zoomed in to 600% is a bit extreme and that is why you see noise even when well exposed at the base ISO. If you look at the actual image though, both are very clean.
That does not make sense, if the R5C used the R5's sensor then the R5C2 will probably use the R5II's sensor which does not have triple base ISO. All the C version is is the 5 with better cooling and dual OS. The C80 got triple base ISO because it uses the C400's sensor which also has triple base ISOs. I don't see Canon making that big of a sensor design change for such a similar model.
@@foreverbeer They will probably save that for the R5III, fortunately I've never needed ISO 12800. The problem with Sony is they skip the far more useful 3200 or 4000 ISO. At 4000ISO and a F1.x lens it takes very little light to properly light the scene.
Hi Josh - I'd mentioned wondering if there was some additional gain on the R5 C compared to the other members of the R5 family, and I don't think articulated it well at the time. But if you look at 4:26, when both cameras are at iso 800, the R5 C looks very starkly white compared to the R5 2. That's characteristic of what I was seeing when I was comparing the R5, R5 II, the R5 C, and my Sony A1 under controlled conditions. It felt like the R5 C had a baked-in OTTTR compared to the other models.
Hey, I have a really important question for me.. I film in my Canon R7 in Clog3 (with canon gamut and low noise reduction in camera settings) at ISO 800 (Clog3’s base iso) and in the majority of the cases it introduces me a lot of noise in the shadows, both at daylight and night. I investigated a lot and always make sure I overexpose the subject’s face a little bit. I don’t know what is wrong… I frustrated a lot about this, so it would help a lot any recommendation. Thanks! 🙏
Thank you Josh! You are the best. This is the video I was waiting for even as I am a bit sad as a R5ii-owner. I have two questions: 1. What would you recommend in low light-situation if I don´t use C-Log 2" AND: 2. What kind of noise reduction do you use?
You're welcome. Independent of which log curve or picture profile or camera you are using, just try and get as much light to the sensor as possible using aperture and lighting. I use the noise reduction built in to Davinci Resolve.
@@Josh_Sattin Re the noise reduction, what's your process for this in resolve? Do you add a little bit of noise reduction to everything typically or just when it's really visable? Thanks!
Hi Josh, if I may ask you a strange question. I have never been interested in the R5C, ...but... watching your video I wondered if the R5C can take photographs and if so, are they of the same quality as the R5 ? Your reviews are turned excellent. Thank You
I just got the MK2 to be my primary photo camera but have been using the R5C as my photo camera without any issues. Not once did I miss IBIS and loved the better video capabilities. I also shoot DARK harsh environments like concerts. This test was video and the MK2 does good but sadly it seems in photo it's worse than the old R5 and R5C so I'm still unsure of it was the best for me. I'd maybe just preferred another R5C or a R5C but some things like eye control and new AF are what I'm keeping it for
Once again a great video, we have learned a lot by watching your videos and we got to improve our camera work a lot by it compared to the beginning! Thank you for all the informative videos you create! 🙏🙏

Me and my pals who own the R5 are hesitant to upgrade not because we lack the cash but because the improvement on the R5II is incremental.
