  • Unfortunately, I only got the first 30 minutes of my summit section but as you’ll see, the combination of more confidence, better bike setup, and having pre run, my race day performance was night and day better than practice.
I have to thank Dustin Davis for the invite, and the rest of the 805x team for letting me ride with them. It was an honor and dream come true to race in Baja.
Race recap: Dustin started with the bike at approximately 4 AM. He handed the bike off to me at approximately 7:10 AM. Dustin had a decent run despite the challenges that were set before him. The silt beds were fender deep, dust in the air, and the darkness, were all challenges that he had to overcome. He was taken out by a quad in the first hundred miles which sent him to the ground and covered him in silt. When I got the bike, I had very few issues and only hit the ground one time. Luckily, I only went into a cactus which broke my fall. I spent approximately a minute getting the needles out of my hand so that I could hold on again. After getting up over the summit in a clean run, once I hit the sand I tried to make up time and really put in a good effort. I left everything out on that track and when I got to Paul at race mile 195 I had very little left in the tank. 195 was bee central and I’m allergic! Luckily I was spared and not stung! Paul took over the bike at approximately 10 AM, 25 minutes before the trucks came roaring through! Paul was feeling good and had a good run going until the battery completely went out on the bike. 3 1/2 hour rescue mission ensued, but we were able to get Paul back going again while at the same time helping a fellow rider out and getting him back on course. Paul handed the bike off to Mark and Mark ran into his own set of challenges. The headlight wire that was attached to the battery broke upon the battery replacement and caused the headlight to flicker. Combination of a flickering headlight, trophy trucks, the dust, and darkness, Mark did the best he could. By the time Mark got the bike we no longer had a functioning GPS. Mark unfortunately made a mistake which caused us a penalty for going on a forbidden road. We came in and finished at approximately 9:05 PM. We luckily made it before we timed out, however, due to the penalty got a did not finish designation. All in all we were all happy that we cross the finish line in one piece and before the official end time.
Thanks you to our chase crew! Brain you’re the man!

You show how much better anyone can do with a properly set up bike. I have had the suspension done on the last two bikes I have owned and it is a game changer off road. I did not do a single one before that and it severely limited what I could accomplish.

Totally agree, properly setup suspension makes all the difference.

Hey man great job on the baja, but im just wondering, is the kove’s reliability good out of the box? im really interested buying one for moto camping/adventure on the jungle for couple days at a time. Is the engine reliability good and the electrical reliability good? And is the ‘pro’ package makes it better?

Thank you for commenting. That’s our whole purpose for racing Baja; prove the bike’s reliability. The Baja 500 was a brand new bike with no modification. Be bike performed well and our video shows the bike had minimal wear from the race. I ride very remote Arizona on my personal bike and have never been left stranded. The pro is setup does Rally racing. The pro standard has the race exhaust and ecu tune but the street legal equipment. They are so closely spec’d you’ll never know the difference.

Thanks for the reply, and please don't take this reply in the wrong way. English is not my first/native language, so i'm not that fluent, but is it because my youtube had crashed or you use some "accent" that makes me don't understand the second half of your reply.
"Thank you for commenting. That’s our whole purpose for racing Baja; prove the bike’s reliability. The Baja 500 was a brand new bike with no modification. Be bike performed well and our video shows the bike had minimal wear from the race." This sentences are loud and clear.
But this sentence " I ride very remote Arizona on my personal bike and have never been left stranded." are confusing. What's your personal bike? and what is "I ride very remote Arizona" ?
And this "The pro is setup does Rally racing. The pro standard has the race exhaust and ecu tune but the street legal equipment." What?
Sorry if this reply sounds rude but please don't take it in the wrong way.
