Hi tony I like the idea with the full zip down the leg as you do not have to take your boots off but I suppose I’m used to wearing the traditional waterproof trousers , but they are different I can see the pros and cons , I may have to have a look at them , I think the kilt is for another video LOL , look forward to the next video 😊😊😊
Must admit to being sold on the rab kinetic proflex trousers which you can wear as your everyday trousers yet waterproof .. relatively cheap to certainly compared to those :)
Best pair I ever had in terms of waterproofness and breathability/comfort was Lowe Alpine Triple Point Ceramic. That's years ago now, and I don't think it's available any more. To be honest, in proper summer I think relatively cheap overtrousers are good enough. A different story in winter and cold wet conditions.
Yeah, those Lowe Alpine Triple Point Ceramic jackets and over-trousers had a mesh lining, you'd think it would be hot and clammy - far from it, I recall thinking this is good for all day wear in crap wet weather conditions (Highlands).
I got some tall hunter boots and they changed my life. I love taking long walks, and I walk and take public transit because I can’t drive. I really want these hope they’re worth it. Wish they had a taper though
@@TonyHobbs lol.. I was just using that well known phrase seeing you struggle with gettimg them off - I was just having fun so & laughing along with you - don't take it for real.
My first decent pair were berghaus Paclite excellent Need more lightweight waterproofing like that. Do you just let it get wet and put up with it? Summer definitely agree
@@TonyHobbs pretty much. Far too many days and nights spent wet through on the fells given the old ‘job’. I tend to be moving quite fast these days , even laden and I’d get just as wet from the inside of wearing a laminated shell outer. If I’m moving slowly in winter I wear Paramo. I was converted to in in 2003. Although it’s far too heavy for summers
Paramo for me is a sub 5c general jacket much over 5c I'll start to cook. And too heavy to carry. It's very good though. On a few wet trios I've noticed when wet you kinda dry out as you walk when not raining. The important thing is keeping warm enough.
@@TonyHobbs to be honest Tony when I’ve used it I’ve always had a lot to carry😂. That or stood at the bottom of a mountain waiting for my turn to search an area during training. I got it free so wasn’t turning my nose up at it especially as peoples donations paid for it .
@@TonyHobbs I have an interesting jacket with me today. Samarkand Parasilk. I may try and do a micro review given that I’ve had it just about 18 months now.
cant a afford an arcteryx jacket? - Sell your watch, you could buy a Tudor Ranger and six Alpha SV jackets ;) :D Joking aside, nice watch and thanks for the informative video :)
Lol yeah I used to be huge dead bird fan but they gone a bit north face now still top kit but stupid prices for what it now is. Sell a kidney lol many thanks 😊
That was hilarious, i know it wasn't meant to be but well done for helping me decorate the screen on my lap top ...they will be flying off the shelf in all the stockists now Tony :) I have got the Beta AR pants and jacket too but my trousers are different around the waist because they have a belt thing with a little metal clip and i can unzip the trousers from the bottom and just loosen the waist off and step in and put plus around the ankles there are lace clips as well as those holes. I dont tend to use either much these days because i have turned into one of the lightweight weirdoes who weighs things and i now prefer my lighter ME jacket and trousers which haven't got as many bells and whistles and they are not goretex pro , just goretex but they do the job just as well and much lighter and packable too. Arcteryx was definitely worth paying the extra for 20 years ago Tony but i think the other brands have copied a lot of what Arcteryx spent a fortune on with their research and development but these days you can get equal performance for a lot less.
Is there something that has full zips a fly and light. These are the regular beta not AR and light ish I'd not take in summer but they seem OK for winter. Always good to laugh 😃
@@TonyHobbs Ahh right. I was very impressed with the kilt :) when i was young and poor me and my mates used the big black bin bags as jackets and skirts to good effect so we must have been ahead of our time. The mountain equipment trousers i use have a really good fit and full zips with velcro tabs on the ankles and a draw cord at the waist but no zips. Personally i always put them on in the morning in winter until i haver struck camp and set off for about 30 to 40 minutes. Due to the ease of getting them on and off i have worn these more than any other over trousers i have owned. I dont know about you but i have found that some brands are such a faff that i have just not bothered and let myself get wet instead when its been my last day or just a day hike.
Yes that kilt is very very good I've had it long time very good multi use item those ME trousers sound good. A fly is useful lol saves pulling front of waterproofs down a bit to get the old cobra out lol then gotta pull em back under rucksack hip belt. Almost as annoying as the birds having to drop the bloody lot 😆
Oh no, the skirt is back 😂 I've got Trespass Soft Shell trousers with are perfect for very cold temperatures and keep the wind and rain out. I also have Trespass Quickpak waterproof trousers and jacket for the summer
I've tried soft shell but eventually they leak as not wp but also used Paramo trousers but Gore seems best to me in winter. Summer the good old skirt lol 😆
God only knows what the dog was thinking as he unzips his strides to reveal yes wait for it….. ballet leggings 😂. Mr Hobbs, have you been watching Syd James or Benny Hill recently?? Best show on youtube this 👍👍. Mother of god!!! Just got to the skirt bit. Can you imagine being a fell walker walking past and seeing a man with a skirt on talking to a camera?
If you zip up from the bottom the zippers come right off
Indeed you're correct thank you 😊
I’ve got the Alpha Jacket and Pants and they’re the best waterproof clothing I’ve owned.
Nice polar dial Explorer II.
They make great kit for sure

Sounds interesting
I got tired of getting soaked in winter thought that's it lol I like these as light ish full zips and fit me OK plus fly zip

Yea in summer I'd not bother just dry the crackers out in camp and into dry sleeping bag lol
I had a jacket by Lowe in triple point many years ago, probably the best jacket I’ve ever worn

@@davidporter2828 mine was an alpinist jacket so short length so it could be worn with a harness and was unlined

Lassie be like "What the heck are you doing hooomun" 😂
She gave up years ago lol 😆
All the gear no idea 🤣 You do put a smile on my face I have to say.
You think 🤔 no idea ? Probably more than most 😉 great you get a smile 😃 that is the important bit
@@TonyHobbs lol.. I was just using that well known phrase seeing you struggle with gettimg them off - I was just having fun so & laughing along with you - don't take it for real.
can these be used as a snow pant for skiing given the waterproofness?
Yes I think should be ok but you'd definitely need leggings under them as they thin and light but very cosy ☺️
Absolutely love the videos Tony. 😂
They a hoot to make 😆
Would you go true to size or a size up?
To size as I think they already sized up a bit
Always stuck with berghaus deluge waterproof trousers and very rarely wear waterproof trousers whatsoever unless it’s absolutely sheeting it down. I can’t afford arcteryx anyway 😂
