Thank you for posting this. I began learning Portuguese because of kizomba, then fell for semba big time. The music of Angola is just incredible. Gerson it was wonderful to hear you singing one of Mathias Damasios songs, you have a wonderful voice and really did it justice.
Filipino here too, but I’m more exposed to Brazilians. First time for me to hear Angolan Portuguese, but it does sound clearer to me. I also speak Spanish.

Tão interessante, brasileiros (especialmente nordestinos da costa leste) conseguem ver coisas muito semelhantes em ambos, principalmente com Angola, por causa da época da colonização. Nossas gírias refletem muito isso, muitas coisas que o Gerson falou a gente usa aqui.
Eu se ouvir um locutor Angolano ou Cabo-verdiano na Rádio em 90% dos casos não consigo distinguir se é ou não português. Tem zero semelhança com o brasileiro.

I would love to hear you compare Azorean Portuguese with the that of Lisboa. There are many, many Portuguese people from the Azores in the North East of the U.S.
I enjoy watching your videos. I'm Canadian. My parents immigrated here from the Azores and I learned conversational Portuguese from them growing up. I've never had formal Portuguese lessons, but I enjoy practicing my comprehension skills listening to your videos. I'd say that I understand about 90% of the conversations that you have with your guests, however I wouldn't be able to speak Portuguese with such a high level of proficiency. Keep up the great work producing these videos. They're much appreciated.

Aqui no norte pronunciamos tudo como B. Só alguém a fazer "overcorrection" poderia pronunciar um V numa palavra com B. A justificação para assimilarmos o V e o B, é que em Latim vulgar (a língua que deu origem a todas as línguas latinas) o V era pronunciado como um som intermédio entre o V do português padrão moderno e o B. Em algumas línguas latinas esse som evoluiu para um V igual ao do português padrão, noutras manteve-se igual ao V do Latim vulgar ou foi assimilado com o B. Portanto, aqui no norte, o V nunca chegou alguma vez a ser pronunciado como é em Lisboa (ou no Brasil) de todo. Uma explicação dos sons: B: implica fechar completamente os lábios. V do português padrão: escostar lábio inferior a dentes superiores e soprar V do Latim vulgar: encostar ambos os lábios (sem fechar completamente) e soprar E, não, nós não pronunciamos "mal/errado", só pronunciamos diferente. Não há nada de inerentemente mais correto no sotaque/dialeto de outra região só porque foi definido por convenção como padrão 😑😑😑
@@augustocaie E em Latim clássico esse som era um U. Aliás, a letra escrita U vem de uma alteração da letra V (e ainda se vêem muitos textos antigos que usam V onde agora escrevemos U). A pronúncia do V do latim vulgar tem movimento de lábios de lábios semelhantes às do U/W do Latim clássico, por isso percebe-se a evolução. Isso também mostra bem como o Latim e as línguas germânicas têm a mesma origem no proto-indo-europeu. Um bom exemplo é a palavra "vento" (se virmos que em Latim era pronunciado como "uentu-" tem a mesma origem que "wind" em inglês, a mudança entre T/D é muito comum, também).

You should do one with the Portuguese from the Azores and Madeira and from Mainland Portugal. My parents are from the Azores and it’s interesting hearing the different accents from Island to Island compared to Portugal.
In my area, Braga, in the north, we say "amanhã" more like Gerson than Leo. Leo is from Lisbon and they almost always tend to close the vowels more than we do.
Also, it's important to understand that in Portugal, both r's are used. In my family, for example, me, my sister and my dad do the "throat r" and my mum (and her parents) do the "tongue r". The "throat r" seems to be more prevalent in cities (not all). I think it may have to do with the influence of French in urban areas. Non-urban areas still share, in general, the "tongue r" with Spanish speakers.

Então vós escreveis essa palavra com o v. Eu uso o vós em vez do vocês. Singularidades ou peculiaridades do português do norte.
Em Portugal é mais comum falar bazar e também mais comum falar cobarde com b , eu sei que no Brasil é mais comum falar covarde com v

I enjoy watching your videos. I'm Canadian. My parents immigrated here from the Azores and I learned conversational Portuguese from them growing up. I've never had formal Portuguese lessons, but I enjoy practicing my comprehension skills listening to your videos. I'd say that I understand about 90% of the conversations that you have with your guests, however I wouldn't be able to speak Portuguese with such a high level of proficiency. Keep up the great work producing these videos. They're much appreciated.

Now I’m starting to learn European Portuguese thanks to your channel. Also I recently learned of my Mozambique 🇲🇿 heritage and Angola 🇦🇴 ancestry though dna 🧬 testing so I’m excited to know that they speak Portuguese as well.

Só alguém a fazer "overcorrection" poderia pronunciar um V numa palavra com B.
A justificação para assimilarmos o V e o B, é que em Latim vulgar (a língua que deu origem a todas as línguas latinas) o V era pronunciado como um som intermédio entre o V do português padrão moderno e o B.
Em algumas línguas latinas esse som evoluiu para um V igual ao do português padrão, noutras manteve-se igual ao V do Latim vulgar ou foi assimilado com o B.
Portanto, aqui no norte, o V nunca chegou alguma vez a ser pronunciado como é em Lisboa (ou no Brasil) de todo.
Uma explicação dos sons:
B: implica fechar completamente os lábios.
V do português padrão: escostar lábio inferior a dentes superiores e soprar
V do Latim vulgar: encostar ambos os lábios (sem fechar completamente) e soprar
E, não, nós não pronunciamos "mal/errado", só pronunciamos diferente. Não há nada de inerentemente mais correto no sotaque/dialeto de outra região só porque foi definido por convenção como padrão 😑😑😑

@@augustocaie E em Latim clássico esse som era um U. Aliás, a letra escrita U vem de uma alteração da letra V (e ainda se vêem muitos textos antigos que usam V onde agora escrevemos U).
A pronúncia do V do latim vulgar tem movimento de lábios de lábios semelhantes às do U/W do Latim clássico, por isso percebe-se a evolução.
Isso também mostra bem como o Latim e as línguas germânicas têm a mesma origem no proto-indo-europeu. Um bom exemplo é a palavra "vento" (se virmos que em Latim era pronunciado como "uentu-" tem a mesma origem que "wind" em inglês, a mudança entre T/D é muito comum, também).

Os jovens bem educados já falam o “v” corretamente e os “r” dos jovens já são todos gluturais, apesar de que é comum vez ou outra meus amigos jovens do Porto pronunciarem o v à Porto, mas no geral eles já pronunciem muito bem o v e o r, é uma tendência aturar, só os mais velhos a partir de 40 anos é que ainda pronunciam diferente o “v”e o “r” e mesmo assim não são todos.

Por certo que tem origem em Angola, lembra que o portugues do Brasil contem varias palavras de origem Kimbundu. Ex: bunda, muleke, maconha, umbanda, kenga, tubia-kanga , etc etc etc

You should do one with the Portuguese from the Azores and Madeira and from Mainland Portugal. My parents are from the Azores and it’s interesting hearing the different accents from Island to Island compared to Portugal.
Checkout Cape Verdean creole, could be interesting for you. Our Portuguese is almost the same as the one from Portugal thought.

In my area, Braga, in the north, we say "amanhã" more like Gerson than Leo. Leo is from Lisbon and they almost always tend to close the vowels more than we do.
Also, it's important to understand that in Portugal, both r's are used. In my family, for example, me, my sister and my dad do the "throat r" and my mum (and her parents) do the "tongue r". The "throat r" seems to be more prevalent in cities (not all). I think it may have to do with the influence of French in urban areas. Non-urban areas still share, in general, the "tongue r" with Spanish speakers.
So interesting! My mom taught me to use voce when addressing someone older then me.
