I am traveling in Portugal at the moment. Before I left the states, I practiced these 30 phrases and listened to your terrific video multiple times. I am having such fun rolling these out, and watching the look of surprise when I am actually understood. Thank you for these useful videos, which I will recommend to others.

Nunca vi um professor no RUclips que falasse inglês puro, português como você. Muito obrigado senhora por me ensinar tanto. Regards from Bikram Thapa all the way from South Eastern, Barahakshetra Municipality, Sunsari district Nepal.
Just a note to thank you Liz for the time and obvious effort you've put into making these videos. We have just returned from our first (most certainly not our last visit) and your videos, my dreadful pronunciation, and willingness to engage the local folks made our vacation. The 30 day challenge, numbers and survival Portuguese all added to our enjoyment of a brilliant country! Thanks again
I'm fascinated by this video. Rarely someone does portuguese pronunciation. Of course there are some details to work on but you are almost Portuguese. Many congratulations on your work. You have a fan. Finally someone knows that "João" is pronouced like "awn" and not "Aw". Very good indeed. Keep up the good job! Anything you need, feel free to ask!
00:13 🗣 Overcoming the fear of speaking is crucial for language learners to avoid staying in an expat bubble and truly experience authentic culture. 00:55 🏊 Quick language progress is akin to jumping into cold water - initially shocking, but immensely rewarding and confidence-boosting. 01:33 🗓 Introduces a 30-day practical Portuguese challenge with 30 phrases, emphasizing small, practical steps to build speaking confidence. 02:01 📥 Viewers encouraged to download the PDF with phrases and audio for daily practice during the challenge, with a focus on building real-life conversational skills. 03:37 🚶 Teaches polite phrases for navigating through crowds: "cona" for asking permission to pass and "disculpe" for apologizing. 04:39 🛒 Useful phrases for daily life, including asking for the bathroom and inquiring about card payments, highlighting practical communication needs. 05:58 🕰 Teaches asking for the time, suggesting it as a useful way to initiate conversations with locals. 08:03 📖 Recommends improving vocabulary by asking, "How do I say it in Portuguese?" when pointing to objects. 11:33 🤔 Encourages asking "What is this?" to seek assistance and enhance vocabulary. 12:33 🚇 Teaches asking for directions to the nearest metro station, essential for navigation. 15:49 💨 If on a bus and wanting to open a window, instructs viewers to ask, "Pode abrir a janela?" 16:57 🇵🇹 Introduces a phrase for learners who might struggle with replies, allowing them to express they are learning Portuguese.
Great for revision! For some of us there's no metro nearby....so will need to substitute a estaçāo de comboio (the train station) or a paragem (de autocarro) (the bus) stop.
Frases muito úteis! Just a couple of small changes: banheiro should be casa de banho, and cardápio, even though it is correct, it's not so popular - so I recommend "carta" or "menu" :)
Hi Liz - In October I'm going to visit two of the Azore Islands, Sao Miguel and Pico, so I"ve been watching a couple of your videos to learn basic Portugese phrases. Really enjoying them, and will practice, practice !
Thanks for this video - as this morning I was trying to find where I'd printed the 30 phrases! Your course is great, and I'm still learning and reviewing!
Meu amigo, não me leve a mal mas, aparentemente você gostou muito do vídeo da professora, respondendo a todas as questões com o "jeitão" brasileiro, não faça isso em excesso, pode confundir quem está aprendendo pois o foco é o Português Europeu
Que giro! I loved that one. LOL - I already used that one 3 times in the last hour. Seriously, you always provide wonderful commentary and practical application on how to use phrases.
Portuguese, much like English, offers great freedom in the choice of accent. If someone wants to learn this language, they can choose to focus on European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, or African Portuguese, reflecting the diversity of the Lusophone world. This freedom is similar to what we find in English: it’s possible to learn a British, American, African, Australian, or even Indian accent. Today, thanks to the internet, everyone has access to this rich variety of pronunciations, making language learning even more exciting and personalized. French doesn’t offer as much variety - does that perhaps feel frustrating for you?
Thanks for the video. I question the approach of memorising phrases though. Not sure how they help when you can't keep the conversation going. You get this a lot with tourists, they open the conversation, sounding super proficient in Portuguese but when you reply to them, all you see in a blank look on their faces.

I’m Portuguese. From the Azores. I love the way you speak English. And the way you speak Portuguese is really outstanding. Keep up the good work.

Cona is a swear word in Portuguese so definitely DO NOT use that to ask for permission to pass.. that would be com licença. 🤦🏻♀️
Great for revision! For some of us there's no metro nearby....so will need to substitute a estaçāo de comboio (the train station) or a paragem (de autocarro) (the bus) stop.

love your way of teaching i saw this vedeo so many times
Glad to hear that!
Thank you Liz, hopefully some of these phrases will stick in my head.Repetition is the key i think.
Absolutely!
yes thanks
12:45 “Não tem problema” ou “sem problema” também se houve no Brasil.
"se ouve". O "H" não é usado nessa palavra
ALICANTE SPAIN
"Ouve" diferente de "houve"
Houve com "H" é o verbo haver no pretérito perfeito.
Verdade, o sentido é “ouvir” de audição, aparelho auditivo.
Thank you for your explanation and your explanation was helpful i feel understand. Keep going do it more

E aí? Tudo bem? Tudo certo? Beleza? Também se ouve no Brasil.

For a waiter's attention you can simply say "Desculpe" or even "Por favor". "Com licença" is not used in this context. :)
This the same phrases in the Quizlet from a couple years ago? I use these all the time.
