For a while, it seemed like Gillette was planning to phase out the Mach3. When they introduced the Fusion here, they could get a free Fusion if you traded in your Mach3. But it didn't work, many men didn't think the extra two blades were worth the extra money. When the Skinguard Sensitive was introduced, Gillette indirectly admitted that the Fusion's 5 blades can give you razor bumps. My skin doesn't handle it well when a razor cuts hairs underneath skin level, I get ingrown hairs, everywhere, even on the legs, which have quite tough skin. I even go so far as to say that it wasn't even the Mach3's third blade that won over Gillette Sensor and Schick Protector users, it was the way the razor head attaches to the handle. The gravity point is lower than the part that pivots and you sort of drag the razor head across your skin like a sled. The Schick Protector got upgraded with a third blade, like the Gillette Sensor, for that matter, but the Protector3 shaves just like the original model, except it clogs really quickly: A fatal combination of Schick's trademark grille and three barely spaced blades.
For me I'm a cartridge guy. That's my daily driver specifically the fusion 5 proguard. For ME personally a cartridge gives me a better shave with less irritation. That being said for my weekend shaves I use a wilkinson sword DE razor because I do appreciate the novelty and experience that a DE gives. I like collecting different DE blades from all over the world and I like to take my time and pamper myself with a barbershop style shave on the weekends with my DE even if I do cut myself more with a DE razor and it gives me more irritation. But in the end I prefer a cartridge razor cuz it works best for me. I just wish DE people wouldn't be soo snobbish when referring to cartridges and the people who shave with them. Yes I know DE is more traditional and you save more money with DEs but I wish DE shavers would be more respectful to those who prefer cartridges. To each their own. Big fan of the channel.
I'm a DE shaver and I agree, I think it's really stupid to be so haughty and patronizing over freaking shaving methods of all things! I don't do all the collecting and buying a bunch of stuff tho, my interest is mostly pragmatic (cost, comfort, and shave quality) altho there is alot of really cool looking stuff available!
I just don't understand when someone gets a better shave with a cartridge razor. I have used nearly every cartridge razor known to man, and it doesn't even compare to basic safety razors like the Merkur 34c and EJ DE89. It makes me wonder what I am doing wrong with cartridge razors or is it just my skin ? When I use cartridge razor they clog so bad and irritate my skin. I just can't even fathom how they could be preferred. Maybe I will try again soon.
@@brianh2287 you're not doing anything wrong here I'm also a cartridge razor guy i only shave with de razor in weekends a mach 3 razor can give you really close shave with minimum effort and skills i too have almost all Gillette fusion to skinguard to mach 3 razors they all perform very good what i found is fusion ProShield gives you more comfortable shave if you've longer beard growth of 7 days or more with minimum effort if you've like power variant specially skinguard is one of the best no ingrown hairs no irritation at all.
I have fond memories of my Mach 3 years so am not a hater but once I found combinations of quality safety razors and blades that really worked for me then it's hard to imagine going back to cartridge razors which have such a fundamental design flaw where the multi blade system creates ingrown hairs.
In my opinion gillette should’ve stopped after mach 3. They just tried to be fancy after that by releasing the power vibrating razors and 5 blades and sell them at a higher price but really the mach 3 gives you the best shave and cheaper than all of them also that doesn’t easily irritate skin. Except the disposable ones which easily gives you irritation.
I'm definitely a DE and shavette shaver, but the mach 3 was my first ever razor and I will always have respect for it. Yes many cartridge razors dont work that well, but the mach 3 definitely gets the job done.
Just went back and tried the mach3 again. Did one pass, very gentle and light (Only going with the grain). Gives a great shave, no irritation or anything. Only the next day, where I got a bunch of ingrown hairs on my neck!
The Mach 3 is a pretty decent razor for me having my facial hair growing up to 2-4 days good thing it didn’t have me no irritation since I have sensitive skin 😄
My father bought a mach 3 in 98 when it first came out and still uses the same handle. After I got the 6s and loved it, I gifted him one also, but he still mostly uses his mach 3. He actually started his adulthood with old de gillettes back in the day. He just says there's something about his mach 3 lol
I still enjoyed using the Gillette Mach 3 turbo than the original Mach 3. Because, it has a stronger sharp blades than the original. I still used that kind of cartridge razor with Barbasol shaving cream and it works.
My God, this brings me back to my childhood😂😂. I remember when these came out, the commercials made them seem like the greatest thing ever, you HAD to have this razor, I couldn’t wait to grow up so I could shave with a GILLETTE MACH 3!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are you shaving wrong or something? I have a thick fast growing beard and when I shave with the Mach 3 it’s smooth as butter and cuts right through my beard? I do shave after a shower, I use a pre scrub and I usually use the Gillette pure in the tube. I have never had pulling or tugging even if I shave after 3 or 4 days so I’m confused?
ewan If anything I find it frustrating to use a D/E because the head is really big and it seems like it doesn’t slice through my beard hair well so I need like 3 passes. Of course I have only used cheaper ones like the van der Hagen etc. maybe I need an agressive one with a feather blade?
I keep a Mach 3 on standby to get at all the hairs my chunky safety razor doesn't quite fit or reach like lip, ear, nose and back hair. I also find my safety razor struggles to deal with stubble that the multiblade design of cartridges does actually have an advantage by pulling the hair up from the skin before cutting. Also areas of high risk that are particularly stubborn like the neck which can take multiple passes with the safety can be easily cleaned up with a cartridge. In my eyes they are 2 different tools for 2 different jobs, safety for first pass heavy duty hair removal that struggles with fine stubble and cartridge for quick second pass stubble removal but gets constantly blocked and takes 10x as long if you try to shave more than a weeks growth.
Never had a problem with irritation or tugging with the Mach 3. Doesn't get a close enough shave like my safety razor but it's a decent razor nonetheless.
First razor I ever used! My dad has been a long time user of this one as well. Idk how he does it but it seems like he can use and reuse his blades til they rust. He just has a tough face I guess, bc I never see any bumps or irritation. And he has thick, heavy facial hair (if he didn't shave) much more than I do.
My sister got me this razor some years ago. When I was in highschool, I rarely used it. Bought refills once but still got 2 of them in the cupboard. Now I use the Rockwell 6S, I guess I could revisit the Mach3 with a nice soap.

I recently had to go back to cartridges and my old Mach 3, and I have to say, it is a good close shave. I do not get razor burn or irritation from it and the shave is every bit as close as my DE razors - even better on my neck. And without nicks, which I need to avoid. They are great for travel as well which is why I always keep one around. I will say that it clogs on good shave cream/soap. The newer handles are lighter. I wish I still had my older ones. At BJ's Club, you can get them for less than $2.00/blade on sale. P.S. I love the Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood.
My issue with cartridges has always been the irritation on my neck in the days to come. And *forget* about shaving every day! Just pain and irritation. Never going back. Thanks for testing it out, though. Hmm... Merkur 34C? Nah... I vote for Granpa Grundy! "A rock in my shoe ... on my face." LOL!!! Too funny. Have a great weekend!

I only need two passes and a clean up and I am bbs with a Mach 3. When I use. DE or SE I need balm and aftershave to cool things down. With the Mach 3 I only need a splash of any aftershave and my face is fine.
I still got the red mach 3 handle from back in the day when Nascar was promoting it around 05 or so. My favorite razor definitely better than the fusion imo
I am as excited as you are to see the end of that goatee SinatraLennon. I was in a crazy rush this morning and ended up shaving with a Mach 3 inspired disposable made by Dorco, which gave a surprisingly pleasant shave along with William's mug on top of aloe vera gel.
I got a good shave with Mach 3 and Fusion, but the blades cost arm and a leg compared to DE blades. Cost is why I switched. The thing about cartridge razors are that they are idiot proof. Don't need to worry about how hard you press, grain of your beard, or how fast you shave. I suspect people that have tried safety razor shaving and said they didn't like it didn't take the time to learn the technique. First time they cut themselves "I quit."
rancid216 dont need to worry about .. the Grain ?! Belive me .. u have to worry , when I shave with cartridge/disposable razors my neck is BLEEDIIINGGG , because of the shitty typeS of growing ... I cant shave without lefting bigger hairs in some certain spots .. its gettin me very nervous every time ..damn 😑😡
Hmmm 35 bucks for 15 razors. That could very well last a full year for some folks. Sounds like a GREAT deal to me. I wish I had the time to get into DE shaving and maybe I will someday, but that time is not now.
Mach 3 was the best cartridge razor ever. I'm converted to safety razors now but still keep a Mach 3 for air travel hand luggage. Mine even has a little soft case that came from a Gillette gift set. They unexpectedly posted me a free Mach 3 for my 18th birthday. I'd prefer if the handle was solid knurled metal as the rubber tends to degrade over time. I like the Turbo blades in a classic handle and have false memories of it being around in the mid 90s. Still too high risk of ingrown hairs for regular use now - once you know the problem with cartridge razors, you just know and can't forget.
I know this is a really late review from me but. I have found that the mach 3 gives a fantastic first shave. After that ...... nick, tug tug, pull. I use it the first time and move on to the next cartridge. That's expensive but I'm guessing the feather blades last longer with the Rockwell 6s.
I used to use a Mach 3 until about 8-9 months ago when I bought a 1964 Gillette slim adjustable at a swap meet for $10. I've been using double edge razors ever since. But, the Mach 3 is the best cartridge razor I've ever used. I had been counting the number of shaves each one gave me. (I have a full beard, but I shave my head, neck and upper cheeks.). The last Mach 3 gave me 26 shaves, using Barbasol. The first 5 shaves, give or take, felt like a new cartridge. The next 10 or so, felt about average. The final several have felt a bit rough. I'm sure I could make it to 30. The thing I like the most about the Mach 3, however, is that it easily rinses clean. I tried a Schick 5 blade razor years ago, and it clogged very quickly and was difficult to clean between the blades. I bought a Sensor Excel, and an Atra that I'm awaiting in the mail to see if the older cartridges with fewer blades are as good as the Mach 3.
I love the mach 3 honestly as much as razor companies want to evolve the disposable razors it's probably pound for pound one of the best products out there
Nice video, and nice shave!.i love mach3. But mach3 turbo work better than the mach3 normal. I shave my head with mach3 turbo every 2day or Gillette fusion prosheild flexball chill. Smooth shave,no irritation. I use cella,Taylor, rasorock etc. Have a great day
i think you dont even know how to shave cuz that is the biggest BS i heard in a while.i use mach3 and its GREAT,you just needs to be careful and know your beard and everything is gonna be ok.i tryed a couple safety razor and they all gave me cuts so ye..mach3 all the way,at least for me.
I received a PAA shaving kit from my wife as a birthday gift. It has an open comb razor included. I don't remember seeing you use an open comb before. The one I have is the PAA Symmetry OC. That would be a good one to remove your beard.
For a quick neck shave I use the Mach 3 and I still have the first I bought in the 90's. Use the 34C to shave the goatee, you'll love it for sure. Cheers
Saw the Mach 3 razor at a Toronto area Dollarama for $4.00 Canadian - with one blade included. Was tempted but just picked up my cheapie Super-Max twin disposables. Still haven't made the DE leap of faith yet. Keep living on the edge SinatraLennon 👍
I sat in line from 8:00pm Thanksgiving Day Evening just to be first for your videos! I was ready to buy the Free all expense paid $10.99 experience and you say what you said in this video! I demand to see the manger your customer service. :D I suggest a tag team shave to be rid of the beard. Match the Mekur 34 with any of your known heavy duty shavers...Meaning let the Big Boy handle the first pass and the Mekur do the rest.
I found this video by chance while researching a gillette razor blade review video, it was a very informative review. Thank you very much for the pleasant explanation.
I don't think a razor like that should be used like a DE. Multiple passes aren't needed. One against the grain pass, with enough pressure, I mean real firm pressure, is all that's needed. I did a video about carts and showed this technique. I find all the ones complaining about a mach 3 don't know how to use it properly.
What you say about the Barbasol versus the shaving soaps - A good way to begin with wetshaving IS to learn to use shaving soap and a brush for building/ managing the lather, and a disposable (or cartridge) razor.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Sinatra, tomorrow is St. Andrews day here in Scotland. Our national day. Are you doing you're special weekend edition LIVE ? Whatever you do, have an enjoyable weekend with the family.
The mach3 was my first ever razor and the one my dad taught me to shave with, I’ll always have a soft spot for it! It would work great with little growth but it’d be a nightmare when I had anything more than 3 days worth of growth 😂. Still I’m a hardcore DE user now and won’t be going back unless I’m forced to!
I love the Mach3. It’s the only cartridge razor I use on my head. I’m getting used to my supply razor, but for the most part I use my Mach3, and it’s the BEST!
Dude...are you Tim Allen's brother? Can't believe I just watched you shave for 15 mins! If you're not in some type of sales...you should be, I'd probably buy Sham Wows, a crappy car, cookware, or pretty much anything from you. LMAO! Great video presence...you could do commercials or be a weatherman. What do you think of Harry's blades? I know they're 5 blades and can be a bear to clean, but I find them so smooth.
That was all I used was the original Mach 3, not the turbo, before I got into DE wet shaving. It's still a good option if you don't have time or forgot your DE gear IMHO.
I'm out of the country in the meantime and I recently found - in the country I'm in - that they're selling a Mach 3 with 3 cartridges for ~4$ I think Gillette adjusts their prices according to purchasing power
me and my brothers shave with a safety while my dad still loves his mach 3 but atleast we got him to start to use a brush and a quality shaving cream he loves taylor of old bond with sandelwood
Haha, found my Mach 3 handle in the drawer. Well I guess I’ll put it back. Just love DE shaving too much. My Merkur 34G is my everyday shaver. Some say it’s too mild for them. Put in a Feather blade, it won’t be mild.😂 . But I still like my vintage Gillette’s. Great video.
I prefer the Fusion because you get more shaves out of one cartdridge. Five blades doing the work instead of three. I get 30 shaves with a single Proglide.
I go nowhere on "black Friday". Seems like a waste of TOBS to use a cartridge razor. I do use Barbasol 2 blade disposable for quick shave with Barbasol sometimes.
thank u 4 this beautiful video. now i got this razor. and its amazing how good this shave. Thanks! Stay Safe! i shave with an DE Razor with 1! Blade and now with this with 3! blade's. Thats enought, u dont need 5 ore more blade's 4 an close shave.
Plz reply if you can. Is gillette still make metal handles of mach 3 like the old one? Bcoz recently i bought new handle and its all plastic and lighter. Are they still make the good one too or they officially changed it to only plastic version? Thanks
It's got to be the 34c! You're the last D.E shaver on the planet to use one, so it might as well be worth it😂 One note of 'complaint' though, and based on my O.C.D : Those towels!? I mean how could you?😉 Look forward to tomorrow, and at least have those towels perfectly folded and hung up. All the best🏴🇺🇸
Not the original. The original had an all metal handle made in USA, the current is plastic designed to look like metal made in China with a metal core inside.
I’ve got my first tub of TOBS organic formula (sensitive skin issues) enroute. I am very excited to try it. I read where dermatologists recommend no more than 2 blades on the face at one time. When my son was a college freshman he did a swab of his non-carpeted dorm room floor, for a biology class, and there were six different bacteria 🦠 strains identified. 🤢
To my mind, the 34C is too mild to comfortably remove the goatee. Even though you just used it (and you don’t much like it) use the Muhle R41. The aggressiveness and the open comb should mow that thing right down. Looking forward to the removal whatever you use. Be cool.

I still got the red mach 3 handle from back in the day when Nascar was promoting it around 05 or so. My favorite razor definitely better than the fusion imo
I can remember when this razor comes on the market. For me the mach 3 was the best system razor that ever made ❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward to it! You're going to look 10 years younger.
I hope!
I am as excited as you are to see the end of that goatee SinatraLennon.
I was in a crazy rush this morning and ended up shaving with a Mach 3 inspired disposable made by Dorco, which gave a surprisingly pleasant shave along with William's mug on top of aloe vera gel.
I used Gillette Mach 3, ONCE, a few hours ago for a shave for first time use. NO CLOGGING! NO CLOGGING!!
Agreed.
Hmmm 35 bucks for 15 razors. That could very well last a full year for some folks. Sounds like a GREAT deal to me. I wish I had the time to get into DE shaving and maybe I will someday, but that time is not now.
What's the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
Outlaws are wanted.
I thank you, I'm here all week....
Ba-dum-tish!
Have a great day
Going against the grain with a cartridge razor is like playing with fire.
Huh? I'm always doing 3 pathes with cartridge razor and then enjoying my BBS face.
i think you dont even know how to shave cuz that is the biggest BS i heard in a while.i use mach3 and its GREAT,you just needs to be careful and know your beard and everything is gonna be ok.i tryed a couple safety razor and they all gave me cuts so ye..mach3 all the way,at least for me.
Some can do it with no problem
I’m growing out my beard for no shave November and it’s crazy how much has turned gray. I blame my kids lol.
Hope you had a great thanksgiving.
Mine too! My mother in law sure noticed it!
Holy crap Halloween was a month ago.... this year is flying by!!
I know!
I suggest a tag team shave to be rid of the beard. Match the Mekur 34 with any of your known heavy duty shavers...Meaning let the Big Boy handle the first pass and the Mekur do the rest.
I might need to do a few razors if the Merkur is too mild.
I just switched to safety razor and it is one of the best decisions of my life I am not broke anymore
Best disposable razor ever made.
Mach 3 is my go to razor always.
Gillette Mach3, is the best razor I have ever been using for years.
I have shaved mind off with the straight razor did a great job "eh happy thanksgiving day 💈
Good on you!
Yes I noticed the towels. Also do you prefer the cella or TOBS almond scent more?
I might prefer the ToBS, but it’s a close race.
You should definitely try the Schick Quattro Titanium razor, it's damn good! In fact, it's my go-to razor every day!
I found this video by chance while researching a gillette razor blade review video, it was a very informative review. Thank you very much for the pleasant explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Vintage Life where is that video I cant find it
ruclips.net/video/f-KPyFhq7ZE/видео.html
I’ll check it out!
What you say about the Barbasol versus the shaving soaps - A good way to begin with wetshaving IS to learn to use shaving soap and a brush for building/ managing the lather, and a disposable (or cartridge) razor.
I use the Mach 3 when I forget buy razor blades for my safety razor. I rlly don’t enjoy multi blade razors ever since I switched.
Has a room full of razors but can never seem to open a plastic package.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Sinatra, tomorrow is St. Andrews day here in Scotland. Our national day. Are you doing you're special weekend edition LIVE ? Whatever you do, have an enjoyable weekend with the family.
No live, but Happy St. Andrews Day!
Sinatra!! Hope you had a good thanksgiving man, can’t believe novemeber is almost over haha
I can’t either!
Actually to complete the full month, it should come off on Monday, December 1.
Yea, he's cheating lmao
Sunday!
SL, you need to get a hold of PAAs CaD. It’s based on Barbasol. Personally I think it’s amazing and the aftershave scent lasts for over a day.
I love barbasol for a canned shaving cream....so Im asking...."PAAs CaD"...?? What do you mean??
Never mind lol....figured it out.
I’ve heard that it’s great stuff!
@SinatraLennon Hello from New Zealand, I use many razors Gillette and Schick products BUT I still gravitate back towards Gillette Mach 3
SinatraLennon remove that beard with a Gillette old type open comb razor.
That would be so much fun to see. Use the merkur 34c after some days.
I did that last year!
The Gillette MACH 3 is muy favourite razor...very confortable and Long lastima result
The rite aide mock mach 3 is the best razor ive used. Beat the edwin jagger. Im trying open comb next
You should try the newer Mach 3 Turbo, it hardly ever clogs, it's the best razor ever, I think Gillette has really perfected it.
Why is it Turbo?
The mach3 was my first ever razor and the one my dad taught me to shave with, I’ll always have a soft spot for it! It would work great with little growth but it’d be a nightmare when I had anything more than 3 days worth of growth 😂. Still I’m a hardcore DE user now and won’t be going back unless I’m forced to!
I used the Mach 3 for quite a while before I got into using DE razors. It’s not bad for a cartridge razor.
The BIC razor hasn’t forgotten you
Nor I it.
That was all I used was the original Mach 3, not the turbo, before I got into DE wet shaving. It's still a good option if you don't have time or forgot your DE gear IMHO.
Exactly!
I'm out of the country in the meantime and I recently found - in the country I'm in - that they're selling a Mach 3 with 3 cartridges for ~4$
I think Gillette adjusts their prices according to purchasing power
As they say in business, "as much as the market will stand."
Interesting!
me and my brothers shave with a safety while my dad still loves his mach 3 but atleast we got him to start to use a brush and a quality shaving cream he loves taylor of old bond with sandelwood
Yes. Please use the 34c
Is mach 3 and fusion 5 posible for underarm(armpit)?
I prefer the Fusion because you get more shaves out of one cartdridge. Five blades doing the work instead of three. I get 30 shaves with a single Proglide.
I don’t like the feel of five blades, but use what works for you!
@@SinatraLennon I'm pretty much like you: I use safeties, Fusions, Trac II, Atra, Sensor, Dorco 6, disposables etc.
I have a Mach 3 and I love it
I go nowhere on "black Friday". Seems like a waste of TOBS to use a cartridge razor. I do use Barbasol 2 blade disposable for quick shave with Barbasol sometimes.
It’s never a waste to use ToBS.
thank u 4 this beautiful video. now i got this razor. and its amazing how good this shave. Thanks! Stay Safe!
i shave with an DE Razor with 1!
Thanks
I’m not sure! I haven’t bought one in years and years.
@@SinatraLennon the one u have in this video was that metallic?
I bought a pack of two cartridge Gillette Razor Mach 3. And it did give me smooth shave for the money
It's got to be the 34c! You're the last D.E shaver on the planet to use one, so it might as well be worth it😂
One note of 'complaint' though, and based on my O.C.D : Those towels!? I mean how could you?😉
Look forward to tomorrow, and at least have those towels perfectly folded and hung up.
All the best🏴🇺🇸
I had no choice in the towels! One must do what one must do with company over. 😏
Only grocery store bought shavers that do a decent job on my beard.
Mach 3 is one of the best razors Gillette have produced.
It IS the best.
I give u credit for surviving no shave November will miss the goatee ! But least your happier
Much happier!
Not the original. The original had an all metal handle made in USA, the current is plastic designed to look like metal made in China with a metal core inside.
Aww man I love you , in one of you other videos I commented you look like better call Saul and sooooo many people liked it ahaha keep it up brother
I blame my huge forehead!
Im a safty razor guy but mach3 is my fav for cart razors 2 blades you gotta go over few times and with 4-5 blades its one stroke but messes up my skin
Yuck!
SinatraLennon he survived! 😬
For the goatee you should do something like 1st pass the R41 then 2nd the Merkur or some old gillette, so that you please as many people as you can
Good idea!
Use an electric trimmer first to knock of down. Then use a mild DE.
It will be a nice, comfortable ,smooth and soft reward for the month of awareness.
How long does it last for you guys?
To my mind, the 34C is too mild to comfortably remove the goatee. Even though you just used it (and you don’t much like it) use the Muhle R41. The aggressiveness and the open comb should mow that thing right down.
Looking forward to the removal whatever you use. Be cool.
