A great safety razor for beginners. Mild while still being effective as a daily shaver, even if it's not great for taking off a beard. Heavy enough to let you use its weight to shave and has a short handle that isn't too slender with good knurling. And reasonably priced to top it off.
Had the same alignment problem with my 34C. I bought a Rockwell and there is no issue with the blade alignment or balance. I like the six levels of closeness. I've been using #4 with good results. I went with the plated Rockwell rather than the stainless and pricey version. It's much better than the Merkur 34C.
The Merkur will always be exciting for me! Likely because it was my first razor when I started traditional wet shaving about 5 years ago when I was 19. Got the 34c, cheap badger brush, and an Arko puck. Also love Arko for that reason. Special place in my heart for that razor :')
10 years younger! Looking cool dude. Love watching your videos and I've been lucky enough to try margaritas in the artic recently, it's phenomenal! Got some on order
Thanks for taking us along for a Sunday shave💈 it hurt to watch after the overhang on my Fatboy got my nostril yesterday. Gonna take a couple days off.
Everything but the garden shears! First of all, well done for making it through the month. Secondly, thanks for the good fun watching you as always, and you DID use the 34c. Cheers🍻
Good shave!!!! I have the 34G, and it shaves wonderful!!! Blade alignment issues??? Nah, I never had any issues with it at all. Put a good blade in it, and it'll shave you great all day long.
Yeah, relatable about your father-in-law, I sport a full on beard, the goatee is almost ZZ Top really. I have no need for a safety razor. I used a electric razor for a little over two years. But I really wanted to shave again. My neck is really sensitive, so a safety razor has been helping with the sensitivity. Also use it to clean up the beard, I shave the patches on my cheek bones. Since I've been using a safety razor I actually enjoy shaving.
Hey, thursday I had a serious operation and I've been lying in bed at the hospital since then. I spend my time watching you shave and other youtube videos. I bought my first safety razor two weeks ago (Yintal All Brass Butterfly Edition - might want to give it a try, it's 14 bucks) and can't wait to go home and shave the "beard" I grew while here. Keep doing what you do man, I love it.
I understand what you are talking about with the Merkur 34. I had a similar first shave with my Edward Jagger D89. I had been using a much more aggressive razor before and the first time I used the EJ I had to stop several times to make sure that I had a blade in it and that I put the base plate back on correctly. Since then, it has become my favorite razor.
Thanks for the nice comment! As it happens, I do voice overs for a living and I have to be able to act to record commercials. I also do English dubs for Animé!
I agree with you. With all the Modern razors I have Merkur 34 HD, Edwin Jagger DE89, The fine Marvel, and the Parker Variant. I rarely use those anymore. For some reason I prefer my Vintage Gillette razors. I've got to dump some of these modern ones.
Gone, finally! I chose to grow out my armpit hair for most of November. Not really because I felt I had to follow each and every internet slacktivism. I wanted to find out how my straight razor would handle it. I made sure to strop it properly and then lathered up the "offensive" hair (to quote a 1915 Lady Gillette ad) with Old Spice shaving cream. The straight sliced off the wuss of hair without effort, but it felt slightly uncomfortable. Not to the point of being painful, but not as pleasant as usual. -- Your Merkur 34 performed exactly as I expected it. It did cut some hair, in fact it did a pretty good job for a closed bar razor -- but not the way a bareback razor could. A closed comb doesn't have issues with longer hair if it's just a few thin hairs here and there. They wrap themselves around the blade though attempting to pass through the bar, and I never tried a closed comb on hair that was both long and thick and coarse, always either or. The obvious advantage with a straight razor is that you don't have to worry about clogging the sink when you're cutting inch-long hair. -- As far as wolves are concerned: They are fascinating, beautiful creatures. But there's a downside to everything. Currently, we're having some big trouble with a rogue wolf here. He's killing sheep by the dozen, last weekend, he bit through the throat of 20 sheep, without devouring any of them. Shepherds are understandably upset. To quote one of them: "If he killed just one per week and ate it, we could possibly live with it, but this is a problematic wolf."
You can tell you were looking forward to this particular shave! Cant say I blame you I'm the same, i tried growing a goatee once and gave in after 5 days.... it was doing my head in! Shame about the scotch after shave that would have been interesting!

Hi Sinatra... Great video as usual. You got to use the 34c at last. Definitely best to save judgement as you say. Maybe fridays video, you can revisit the 34c. After your skin has had time to clear up and with no goatee.... The 34c needs some love. See you monday
34C is for shaving day to day.... mild but perfect for each day or two. I got most of the Merkur collection razors and this one is very mild for peoples who neeed a clean shave each day of the week. Now for one past used slant Merkur....or Mhule R41 ...but you know all that....your not a a new one in wetshaving.....Thank for the video ...follow you!
🎄I just got the Christmas Eve soap and splash and it is simply amazing. Do yourself a favor and pick it up. I also have a Merkur 34G on order and I can’t wait until it arrives to try it out. Thanks for another great shave video. 💈
I was actually considering getting my older brother the Merkur 34C as a Christmas gift but I ended up ordering a beard balm, tonic and soap and a proper hand-sawed quality comb which I hope he'll enjoy using on _his_ goatee, which actually resembles the way you carry yours.
Finally the nightmare is over. Maybe if you trimmed the goatee first the 34C would work nicely and you don't get the red skin. Anyway, welcome back again... :-)
"I'm gonna leave tufts of hair"...pretty funny. It reminds me of that South Park episode where the boys shave a dog and glue it's fur onto Butter's so that they can take him to a veterinarian instead of the hospital to have a Ninja throwing star removed from his forehead.
I like the goatee. What do you think should i keep my beard. Cool electric razor. Wow you have used three cool. Yeah i get itchy skin from my beard. And did you get food in it. Ok buddy take care. Im doing alright im still depressed but ok just pray for me.

Ive had a beard for the better part of 4 years and have probably shaven it off 3-4 times just to grow it right back but the thing I love is the feeling of splashing water on your face and feeling it.. Also eating food and not getting shit all in your beard is amazing. I know it sounds odd but if you go from having facial hair to none you see what i mean as far as eating. I'm not even going to get into the between the sheets disadvantage of having a beard. Talk about flavor saver..
I did not know that you had the electric razor. If I had known, I would have suggested in the previous video that you use it to reduce the beard before shaving the Mekur or any other razor. I've seen many professional barbers do that very method on RUclips over the years.
So from the 34C what would you recommend the next step up to be? Maybe the Rockwell, S6, etc? I've watched a few videos on it. A lot of people like the 3 plate So what don't Rockwell just make individual razors with a 3 plate, a 4 plate, a 5 plate, etc

Nice video. Buuut you should not have bought 34c. Don't get me wrong, I own it, and it was perfect for me at the beginning, but not anymore. It's for those who shave daily and as you said, for the beginners. I suggest you to try Merkur 37c slant ( I also love a short handle). Don't let you fooled by the looks of it: it is not as agressive as it may look. Keep up the good work.

I’d like to try one of those!
Was I only one to suggest the r41
Maybe!
