I shaved with a shavette a razor Sinatra doesn't like using derby blades that alot of people seem to like and which I don't like but decided to give a second chance and it literally pulled the whiskers off and after 2 passes not a marvellous shave, but I'm an optimist and the Nick's this blade gave me I see as an improvement on my first derby blade shave but I dumped the blade when finished so it'll be back to the wilkionsword blade for next time i get my old cut throath out which I love shaving with just not with a derby blade.
But in fairness I didn't get razor burn which I always got with a catrage razor.

    I love the R41, whether I haven't shaved for 2 days or 2 weeks, R41 = effortless bbs shave.
Pair it with milder blades like GSB to tone it down just a little bit and it's perfect.

As someone with ultra sensitive skin, and someone that prefers to use a straight razor when shaving, my favorite DE razor has to be the R41 with Bic blades, I love the blade feel but treat it as a open bladed razer like I would a straight, having the perfect amount of pressure while using proper technique of "riding the cap" gives the quickest, smoothest and least irritating shave I have ever got from any kind of DE razor. I really think technique is super important when using the R41 to give the best shave possible for most people.

@@alexblue6991 it can be pretty scary to try and use a straight razor, I would suggest only trying to shave your sideburns very slowly or maybe just practice a bit on your arm if you can for a few weeks or months. This was mainly the way I learned how to use a straight razor without slicing myself up. I prefer the straight razors with disposable blades myself. Good luck if you make the jump to learn how straight razor shave!

I’ve always loved the R41 a lot. The design, feel in hand, and ultimately for the way it shaves. It is undoubtedly a plenty aggressive razor, with appreciable blade feel and is understandably not for everybody, clearly not for a daily shave, and presumably not for newbies.
The first pass with the R41 is one of the most efficient and satisfying feeling I’ve ever got with any DE razor.
I shave just twice a week, so I’ve always preferred mid-to-aggressive razors anyway. The R41 with a Feather blade is frequently in my razor rotation. I will always keep, use and enjoy mine. I just wish it had a genuine open comb, or maybe offered a dual comb version.

I've never had a desire to try the R41and you've convinced me I never will. I'm not into aggressive safety razors. Just be glad you didn't spend $250 for a Rex Ambassador. It's a great-looking, quality-made, adjustable safety razor. But I never get a comfortable, nick-free shave if I want a nearly BBS result. At least with my Rockwell 6S, I can get a smooth, close, nick-free BBS shave every time. Hope you had a relaxing Labor Day.

The feeling of the blade I enjoy once in awhile, but my go to razor is the Parker 99R. That aggressiveness is just that little bit less than the R41 but there. The best reason for wet shavers not to always follow others is "to each their own" phrase fits well. The best razor probably is one of the many adjustable versions, see your mild to aggressiveness and then start searching the multiple brands for a fave! Just like blade samples to see what they like. I goto the feather 🪶 for mostly all shaves including the R41 😆 🤣 which isn't for everyone for sure.

Seaforth! was a popular brand of aftershave, shaving soap and other men's toiletries in the 1940's and 50's. The brand was known for its distinctive packaging and was a direct competitor to Old Spice and there is a very good chance our grandfather’s may have used it. From what I understand, Seaforth! and Old Spice used to have very nice holiday gift sets that most Dad’s or Grandfather’s could count on receiving one or the other depending on which one they preferred. Seaforth! has their own interpretation of the classic Old Spice simply known as “Spiced” and one named “Heather” which is a modern version of the classic Brut.

How was that blade..?? I was going to say you did not complain about the Astra but those nicks might have been the blade. I really like Astra they are 2nd on my favourite's list after Feather. Great shave - it motivated me to go and indulge!

I totally understand that you don't like that razor. I am aware it has many fans, and so is the company. For the R41's jubilee, they brought out limited editions made from stainless steel and, grasp, titanium, for the die-hard fans. I don't have one, though -- I have one aggressive razor in my collection, and it's more than aggressive enough. Run it over leg whiskers (which aren't as tough as male facial hair) and you hear a sound that reminds me of a wood chipper. I don't like using it anywhere else. Oh, and, yes, the bergamot belongs to the same family as the orange, although it looks more like a lime with a really thick skin. The skin is sometimes pickled with plenty of sugar and used for confectionary, but what is usually grown for is the essential oil in the peel. Among other things, it is used for Earl Grey tea, a tea people tend to either love or loathe, just like the R41. I used to be in the tea business, and I remember the essential oil as a rather aggressive chemical. It came in jugs that had the warning label for "causes irritation" (an orange triangle with a black X in it) on it, a label you can also find on lighter fluid in Europe. I remember that I sometimes had to rinse my eyes after working with it. The finished product, i.e. Earl Grey tea for brewing, usually has a concentration of 4% essential oil of bergamot, although some blends have as little as 0.25%. Such blends are often exported to Russia and the Middle East. Bergamot is also listed as a flavoring for the "General" blend of Swedish snus -- I am not sure if it's natural or synthetic, though. Since the customer base of smokeless tobacco consists predominantly of men, I suspect that bergamot is considered a masculine scent/flavor.

The shave cream might have been too new the first time you used it. I once had this issue with a weird perfume from a brand new shave soap so I now have another approach: if it's the first use, pour water in the jar so that all the cream is sunk. Wait for 3 minutes and empty the water, and then use the brush to make lots of foam but do not use the foam, just waste it. After this, the new cream will be redreshed and will smell better.

Ive gone back and forth on wanting to get an r41- Im curious to try it so I can have that frame of reference as it is always held up as one of the most aggressive razors- same for the merkur 34c as one of the most commonly used mild razors. how does r41 compare to fatip lo storto slant razor? or any other slant razor?

I got rid of my R41. Wasn’t comfortable and I have aggressive enough razors. Plus the handle was hollow and too light. Grande too big. Just had my best shave today with 6s - 5 plate. We’ll see if it continues. Almost got rid of the 6s but figured I should give it some time as I have others that shaved better.
I had the sea spice lime splash. Lingers too long and wife didn’t like it. I still have the soap and like it not sure if I love it - I do like it. That too lingers awhile and I and the wife smells it hours later. That is the only scent I have that lingers like that. My chemistry does tend to project scents.

  • @DorothyFan1

Interesting you mentioned the reason why you switched to the other razor was because it was adjustable. I was under the impression that because the Muhler R41 was a 3 piece that it implied it was adjustable. Just on that basis alone…this tells me I made the right decision to getting the Rockwell 6S because at least on this razor I can adjust the gap and therefore the aggressiveness.

    • @woodstock480
      @woodstock480 Год назад

3-piece, 2-piece or twist-to-open has nothing to do with being adjustable or not. There are adjustable and non-adjustable versions of each.
That said, the Rockwell 6S/6C is my favorite razor.

I didn’t understand it for awhile but I’ve come to really enjoy listening to you talk. I don’t know if you’ll see this comment or not but yesterday was my boyfriend’s birthday. His name is Kai, and he’s a big fan and I know it would make him so happy if you wished him a happy 26th birthday! We both love what you do, and I’m currently working on trying to break into voice acting because of you. Thanks for being one of my favorite parts of the day and for all that you do! 💕💕

So, the r41 has that much blade feel? Then how does it compare to your rockwell 6s on the 6 plate. I have the Rockwell and use 6 and sometimes feel like it doesn’t cut close enough. Also, being visually impaired an not being able to see well, I kind of enjoy the blade feel as it provides me feed back. I thought about getting the r41 or maybe a fatboy. Out of your genuine opinion would you go with a fatboy/ super speed( on a higher adjustment) over the r41. Thanks

You might get better results with aggressive razors by using a different technique. Try using long steady strokes instead of that chicken-scratch thing you're doing. Try it, you might like it.

This is a good tip. I know because I do that often just by habit with my aggressive razors. It feels and works out better that way.
