    That is seriously the funniest shave vid I’ve ever seen!! From the exploding of the shave cream, to the “smells like the middle school locker room felt”, to the broken razor dropping in the sink, all the way to the spat out candy cane after-balm! Truly a classic video😂😂😂, and my fav of yours so far.. Thank you, sir, for the much needed laughs!👏😊

    Dollar Tree razors and bandages are made for each other. I forgot to ask which plate on the Rockwell you use. The first time I saw you use it, the plate didn't appear to be the one you thought it was (wrong side). I've been using the Rockwell 6C exclusively ever since I bought it. The blade doesn't need to be fiddled with to get it straight and even. That was the problem I had with the Merkur and Jagger razors.

    I found that very safety razor at Dollar Tree a few months ago, and I love it. Although, I might look into those feather blades you mentioned or just a better safety razor. It worked well enough that I only got some nicks a few times, but using a magnifying mirror to get a closer view of my face made it a much closer shave with that safety razor.

    I started my journey into non-electric shaving maybe a year ago so I'm fairly new. Started out with a shavette and managed to get all sorts of nicks (very minor) nearly every time and I'm keeping it around for the times I haven't shaved in a while. Wanted to try safety razors and a few months back I ordered the cheapest Chinese safety razor from ebay I could find, shaved half a cheek and stopped and threw it in the trash. It felt like I was shaving with a scratchy spring of some sorts but recently got myself a Rockwell 2C which I've been extremely happy with.

    I was really expecting a blood bath when you used the blade that came with the razor.
    When I shaved with this razor last week I first checked the blade alinement, it was all over the place. I used a Derby Extra blade and shaved half of one cheek then stopped, put a Derby in my vintage Red Tip, and did a side by side shave. The DT is as aggressive, if not a little more, as the Red Tip but lacks the weight and balance (and a lot more) of the Red Tip.
    THIS IS NOT A RAZOR FOR THE FIRST TIME DE SHAVER! While mine did not lose a wing in mid flight It will never be used again, at least by me.
    On the plus side I also got 6 of the Art of Shaving "Perfect Shave" sets. Each is good for at least 2 shaves.
    So every one go to your nearby Dollar Tree and look for it, and maybe pick up a beer stein and some pot holders.

    I've been watching your video's for a few weeks now. My electric razor stopped working weeks ago and until I procure the new one, I've been frequenting your video's. I decided while I wait to go back to the good old fashioned cartridge razor. I haven't used one in many year's or since I was very young. It has been a tolerable experience. I am using the Gillete Mach 3 razor and the Gillete shave gel for sensitive skin. I do like the way the gel tingles my skin a bit, and I love the way the Gillete Razor glides across my skin. The only issue is being " African American " I have really sensitive skin, so I can only do one pass, maybe 2 ........ MAYBE. I will be returning to electric shaving in no time, I have selected a very expensive Braun model, which of course I first researched before selecting. I enjoy your light but humorous bathroom banter and will continue to enjoy your shaving aficionado adventures.

    Funny, when you were talking about how you prefer TTO over 2- or 3-piece systems, I was thinking: He does have a point, but as soon as the pins dislocate, all that convenience is for nothing. I didn't expect it to happen within less than 15 minutes, though. There are TTOs from the 50s and 60s that are still going strong, but a lot of contemporary TTO stuff is junk. Well, to be fair, all systems have their Achilles heel, in the case of multi piece systems it's the middle screw. If it's made from Zamak, it may corrode within a few years and eventually break. However, in most cases, you can still salvage the handle. If part of the screw is stuck in it, you can Dremel it out, or if you don't have one of those really useful things, you can try to get the stump out with the eraser tip of a pencil. I wonder if there is a Murphy's law about Zamak razors that dictates that beautiful razors you bought brand new break within two years, while there are still pre-war Zamak razors around (making razors from Zamak has a longer tradition in Europe than in North America) that are as homely as a mule's behind but still fully functional.

    • @ivermec-tin666
      @ivermec-tin666 4 года назад

      Anneke, Zamak, per Wikipedia, comes in a variety of formulations. Zamak 3 is the de facto standard. Presumably manufacturers might have used Zamak 2 or Zamak 5 (which contain more copper and are 10 and 20% stronger) prior to WW2 in order to cut costs.
      Zamak was developed by New Jersey Zinc in 1929, and depended upon a 99.99% zinc purification process that they had invented. There don't appear to have been any European manufacturers capable or this level of zinc purification prior to 1933.
      All varieties of Zamak seem to have a fixed 4% content of aluminum. And, aluminum was a very expensive metal prior to WW2. It was so expensive that it was regarded as a precious metal at the time of the construction of the Empire State Building. The Top cap of the Empire State Building was made of aluminum.
      Copper would have been a vastly less expensive material than aluminum, and these other formulations of Zamak would tend to flow better and to exhibit superior results in short run manufacturing, as well as in the durability of the finished product; particularly sheer strength.
      Today, copper is more costly than aluminum. I suspect that contemporary manufacturers are using Zamak 3; and that prior to WW2, they would have used Zamak 2 or 5. We could call it Zamak's Law; a corollary of Godwin's Law (it was the use of aluminum in airplane manufacture that finally drove aluminum down in price. So, we have Herr Hitler to thank for his mad rearmament plan; and his violation of the treaty of Versailles in building the Luftwaffe).

      @DellaStreet123 4 года назад

      @@ivermec-tin666 This is really interesting. The safety razor I currently use is a three-piece with a brass head. A Frankenrazor, as some people would say, i.e. the parts used to belong to different razors. I like it, better than my TTO. The TTO is a pain in the neck -- but the mechanism is still going strong. I play the clarinet. Even if you don't play yourself, you most certainly know that it's covered all over with pins and levers. German system (which I play) has a reputation for breaking easily, which may be the reason why, outside of Germany, Austria and parts of Eastern Europe, everybody plays Boehm clarinet. But my old Commie horn is still intact. To put it with my father: Nothing lasts as long as something you got as a temporary replacement.

    Sorry you had a bad experience with this razor. i use it 2-3 times a week. it's my regular shaver. I know those blades aren't ideal. i used them when I was first learning to shave with it though. I now use Astra blades. I have since picked up a synthetic shaving brush which is a definite upgrade. I have used this Dollar Tree safety razor for over 6 months now without any issues. It's still just as nice ans shiny as when I first got it. I shave my face and entire head with it just fine.

      Funny thing is that Axe has this bad rep since I can remember. 30 years later many deodorants vanished but Axe still goes strong.
      I just rediscovered Axe and I must admit I quite like the Gold (fake Oud/Vanilla) and Ice Chill (Mint/Lime) after shaves - not bad for a cheapo.
