This. Grew up in Hawaii and there are plenty of empty shells that will have no wear, all cleaned out by Nature, and you're not killing anything to collect them. Sure you'll find plenty more with some wear, broken, etc but the primo ones are out there.

Why are you taking live shells!? Being from Hawaii we were tought never take anything living unless it's gonna be your meal....bad mana to take living shells just to make your collection.

Yes, I'm born and raised in Hawaii and i dive for shells as well. I was taught that if the shell was still vacant then we put it back. No matter how beautiful the shell is. Respect nature and other species pls.

Dead or alive, if they are flawless, I am taking it as I am a native born Hawaiian, 70 years old and have been diving since I was 8. This is the same scenario as the "save the planet" or "green new deal" where the citizens get penalized for the carbon emissions, while the rest of the world keeps polluting, and moves ahead. All of the ocean species can, with science, be reproduced and re populate. And, by the way, finding a live specimen of any living specimen shell, is almost impossible during the daytime except if you find sand dwellers, with sand trails which will have a close window of opportunity after bottom agitation erases the trails left the night before by these and most other species as they are night dwellers. Tiger cypress is the other exception just due to their size and mantel shape.

@@nameleomoanikealaAnd if enough people have the same attitude as you, you can destroy an entire population. Watch yourself.

Disliked because missed a ton of other shells from nerites, bivalves, lady slippers, just to name a few.
