The middle doesn't exists anymore. People have to either silently consume everything without showing emotions or wage dissacred crusades against other people. Everything need to be a masterpiece or a total garbage bin. Thank you for talking about passion and the moderate and respectful ways people can interact with each others over the tings they love. It reminds me there are still sane people out there.
I remember back in 2014 I was arguing with a 1998 godzilla fan who was making bad points about 2014 I wish the dude that 11 year old me was arguing with was trolling but the did was being serious and his opinions about 2014 and the millennium era were so awful
Those times were crazy toxic if you had any criticism of KOTM you’d get flamed by 50 different Godzilla fanboys and when GvK was coming out if you even spoke about how you liked Kong more than Godzilla or rooted for him even if you knew he was gonna lose the fanboys would tear you to shreds.
@@BuIIy_Maguire Kotm was more like a 7 for me but these monsterverse fans take it too defensive acting like it was an Oscar worthy same goes with GvK they lack patience and I remember they spoiled the movie by leaking the shitty playmates toy of mechagodzilla and now it happened again. I think it wasn’t was our fault this time and I think legendary should take away these rights to these shitty toy companies
the only thing i consider toxic is the NEW tourist called MINUS ONE snobs that actively go out of their way to insult people who loves the SHOWA ERA and attacks the MONSTERVERSE for trying to appeal them, acting like they have the high moral ground, trying to flix their massive ego and seems to think by watching MINUS ONE makes them intelligent. TO answer your question, YES and NO, the GODZILLA FANDOM is more of a FRAGMENTED BIAS community that doesn't really want to improve the franchise, but for their own selfish entitlement and interest to what GODZILLA FILMS should be, especially the loud minority called RUclips CONTENT CREATORS who thinks 1954 and MINUS ONE are the only GODZILLA FILMS that exist and if you don't agree with their opinions then you are now labeled as TOXIC. I mean just look at the difference between the reception of the fan film GODZILLA VS MEGALON short compare to GODZILLA VS KONG, despite both having the same vibes, one is loved and the other is hated, it's called DOUBLE STANDARDS.
Minus one Famboys… that’s kinda cool… 💀 Why, just why? What do we have that the Minus one snobs DON’T? I mean what do the “people with zero interest in anyone’s opinion about Godzilla” have that those “Godzilla/Kong fans” don’t?
I remember back between 2014-2020, every godzilla "fan" hated the monsterverse version of Godzilla, which i never understood. They set him up as a force of nature to keep nature balanced, but it seemed like a lot of people got upset/forgot about that
The reason for this is because when film/movie that was released in 2019 Godzilla KOTM (King of the Monsters) was the day the L.G (Legendary Godzilla) fanboys started rising from the community/fandom and giving us the middle finger because we had our opinions on a film/movie we didn’t like and seals the deal by slamming the door in front of our faces because we called them out for being obsessed with the character/L.G and underestimating him by saying he’s the most “strongest godzilla ever”.
it is why i dont hang out in g groups. i mentioned once that there is a giant turtle in the intro to kong: skull island and I explained that's how gamera could work in that universe. I was hit with an army of angry people trying to school me on who kamoebas is from space amoeba, while wearing a space amoeba shirt when I looked down at myself. and them trying to say that the turtle was a reference to that kaiju, despite the picture just being a regular flat shell turtle.
Yeah? Well I remember one G-fan saying how I "must be a new fan" because I dared to say that G'98 was bad, or how I accidentally kick-started multiple hour long arguments for saying the same thing about Shin Godzilla.
The teir 3 part of this video about doxxing and death threats has sadly happened in the Godzilla community multiple times, an example could be the threats that the man in the suit's creator, Unkn0wingly, has gotten several threats by a few people for his dedicated great series
From that situation there was an equal if not greater amount of pushback against those people and support for unknowingly from TRUE Godzilla fans. It doesn't excuse what happened, but it puts into perspective the loud minority against the sane majority.
Personally I see the Godzilla fandom in the Polarization tier, maybe not deeply in there but definitely in it. I’m largely speaking from personal experience here as a good 80% of my interactions on r/godzilla and r/monsterverse tend to be with said polarizing individuals who attack myself or others for differing opinions. Those same attackers tout their own opinions as objective truths while parading that “True Fan” banner. “True fan” mentality is very damaging in my eyes, and a negative form of gatekeeping that causing rifts and division in any fandom, and creates hard lines for what is and isn’t “worthy” beliefs. I’ll just say it, I hate people like that because they make my involvement in a fandom worse, and tarnish what could otherwise be a great community in my eyes. I will say, Godzilla fans are on the lower end of toxicity for the fandoms I’m apart of, but they’re still there. Probably the lowest level toxic community I’m in is either No Man’s Sky, or potentially Skyrim (but don’t get a Morrowind/Oblivion vs Skyrim debate going cause then shit hits the fan)
Well said! I don’t like many aspects of the newer monster verse movies, and I don’t like how mean many people in the Godzilla community are towards me when I express my dislikes. I love Godzilla, and it makes me sad to see legendary not give the newer movies better plots to follow. It is disappointing to see the newer Godzilla movies with so much potential fall short, which I believe they do, and I would be more open to expressing my opinions, but I fear I’ll be attacked… That’s how I see so many people in the Godzilla community being so toxic…
The second level I can see what is happening to other fandoms(Starwars, Comics etc). Said people are aiming to defend it. What is the ratio of people who like the monsterverse, who want to change it for the worst. Gatekeeping I agree is good in moderation. There is more to say, this will do. For the last video didn't comment for whatever reason or did. Added: When you mentioned War Hammer 40k, the people calling them toxic are likely-bound to be the same ones who managed to enter Star-wars. War 40K has fans who don't want what they enjoy to be ruined or damaged because of some form of politics. Majority of the fanbase are fine, its the people who who want to change and are indeed what the people, they call toxic are concerned about.
This was the video this community we needed. Thanks for mentioning that there are factions in the fandom because I've seen people like EFAP lump Godzilla fans into an amorphous blob.
EFAP is garbage. They're so high and mighty nit-picking everything to death while none of them worked on a film project their entire life. They're essentially backseat directing with hindsight 20/20...
I moved above the toxicity of the Godzilla fandom since I’ve loved the franchise as a whole, mainly because I see no reason to engage in arguments that just lead to trouble.
I feel like the Godzilla fandom has always been put in group theirs the Showa, hesia, millennium, and legendary each era has their strengths and weaknesses. I’ve never heard anyone in the fandom make fun of another for liking the era so I wouldn’t call the Godzilla fandom toxic ps respect on being a ghost fan
I'd prob say its somewhere in the middle of toxicity It really depends which side of the community has came Ive met alot of chill godzilla fans And some toxic godzilla fans But at the end of the day its the internet and we cant do anything about that
I would say the Godzilla fandom is tier 2 We have people using there OCs to murder others, shipping wars and i believe we also saw people sending death threats to producers (though that were Kong fans appearntly) Edit: Debates can get heated and there is r34, but that happends in every fanbase
Regarding the Kong fans part- it was mostly during gvk. But, let's say, during the time of kotm when some critiques bashed it and pointed its negatives then Godzilla fans did the same to them I'm not writing it as a smack talk. Just to point out how both aren't any better than each other
I feel like a reason that Godzilla fans are toxic is because a lot of them like myself had to hide their love of him due to bullying so when there is criticism or anyone saying anything bad about Godzilla they become very defensive.
It's also because people inherently think that if they like something it must be good. Tell them it's not and they think your saying they have bad taste.
I...think you've just perfectly described the motive of their behavior. No wonder they're such a pain in the ass, they're just overprotective due to painful experience
Most "toxic" behavior I've experienced from Godzilla fans was when I said on a post that I, someone that's not *really* a Kaiju fan, preferred the more grounded and realistic kaiju films like Shin Godzilla and Minus One as opposed to the wackier stuff, and that I wished we had a few more realistic modern films on the matter. People, uh... didn't agree with me on the sub.
Well, ahem.. Showa era, Heisei Era.. and Millennium era and Reiwa era are different things, Showa is more child friendly and more fun, Heisei and Millennium are dark, edgy and broody, but sometimes Millennium can have some.. wacky stuff and the Reiwa era is.. like the first movie, or something, but don’t alert the Godzilla fan horde, never do that.
@@GatyMfarty I do find it funny self proclaimed Godzilla fans tell me "Godzilla can be anything", but then flip out when Godzilla is "serious and grounded" and people outside the fandom enjoyed that.
@@dfmrcv862 well, I mean, I guess they are stuck on the “Showa side” with can explain such, because Godzilla 1984, got criticized by the Americans because it was “dark, edgy, and etc” but it was a reboot and it was welcoming a new era, I just find it funny.
Yes! Agreed, thank you! I love Godzilla but I feel so guarded and afraid to say any input about what I think about the movies for fear they will turn and attack me! 😂😰 I don’t like a lot of things the new monsterverse movies did; so what? There is an underlying feeling many toxic Godzilla fans have, and I don’t know what it is yet…
Online, every fandom becomes toxic to an extant. Every Godzilla or just kaiju fan I have ever met has had different opinions and is still respectful. Ive never gotten slack in person for saying all monsters attack is one of my top 5 g movies, online however. Wow. The hate is real.
Most even would be insanely toxic due to people like Critical Drinker or Mauler and EFAP crew absolutely loving Minus One and especially cus one of the crew of efap was happy to see a movie with his dad that was good cus his dad wasnt in a great place. And yet the fandom on a big twitter accnt hated the fact people like C Drinker and Efap liked the movie as much as they did and said no one like them belongs to the fandom and anyone like em as well.
After watching this video, reading some of the comments and calling back to my personal experiences, I'd say the Godzilla fandom (at least the online community) is at Tier 2, with plenty of people fitting more into Tier 1 and a few who are all the way up in Tier 3. The worst parts of the fandom are definitely the powerscalers who base their self worth on how strong their favorite Godzilla is or judge the worth of a movie based on how strong the monsters are, and the Godzilla elitists who went out of their way to harass the creator of The Man in the Suit. Like, that series isn't my cup of tea either, but bullying a literal child over it is ridiculous and cruel, and everyone who did should be ashamed of themselves. Luckily, there's a lot of G fans who are pretty chill and respectful as well. So maybe the fandom isn't quite doomed.
Yup This is why I don't take anything they say that seriously anymore. Because some people don't care about other opinions, and just keep going with their heads in the wall
@@asafakiva1619 I asked myself the same thing to. People who say “Opinions are for weakness” couldn’t get anymore lamer than ever before. Of course we are nerds and of course we love all types of Godzilla.
@@MrWaSpY-Trn And the kaiju/monster movies media in general, yeah.. I’ve even seen a guy that if godforbid you think otherwise than him, he’ll tell you stuff like “go kick some rocks” “you’re not a real debater and never will be🤣” “this must be one of the most delusional fanboys I’ve ever seen🤦🏻♂️😂” “we Godzilla fans actually do research unlike you” and so on.. The ironic part is that the guy is in his 30s, yet acting like a 12 year old (his name is shadowrulezalways or John reeves fyi) A classic example of a guy who can’t have it when you have an opinion of your own
What makes the fanbase so ridiculously toxic is the people judging other people’s opinions and forces them to change it. That’s what makes it so toxic. And not to mention powerscallers.
Agreed, but I feel like having powerscallers isn't bad they can do what they want, it's just when they go after and make fun of people who disagree is when it's kinda crap.
Short answer: *ABSOLUTELY.* When Legendary’s Godzilla/MonsterVerse franchise first started back in 2014, all I wanted was a series of American Godzilla movies that were legitimately good movies on their own merit and make tons of new friends I could interact with and gush over those movies with . . . But, instead, all I’ve gotten is a bunch of glorified, mediocre Hollywood trash and an overly toxic fanbase that has spawned from it, giving me nothing but personal frustration and constant questioning of my own self-worth as a Godzilla fan for the past ten years now. I like the Heisei Godzilla movies and it’s still my favorite series of Godzilla movies to this day, but I’m well aware of how incredibly flawed those movies are and I don’t defend them nearly has hard as the MonsterVerse fans defend the MV movies. I actually don’t mind hearing the criticisms towards the Heisei movies. In fact, they’re quite interesting and make a lot of legitimate points. The critiques people have towards the Heisei Series don’t ruin my enjoyment of those movies, unlike the MV fanbase, who take every single criticism so personally. I completely regret ever wanting to support the MonsterVerse. I don’t support those movies, anymore. When it comes to an American Godzilla movie, I don’t expect “high art”, but I expected something more thoughtful and nuanced than what we’ve gotten from the MV movies. They even fail as “dumb popcorn movies.” I’m not having fun when I watch those movies, especially films like KOTM and GVK, which are very sloppily written and don’t put in any effort to make me feeI invested in what’s happening. I only want American Godzilla movies I can actually feel invested in and don’t talk down to their audience like they’re idiots. People who attend Godzilla movies, both fans and casual viewers, deserve a decent film experience as everyone else. I just wish people didn’t hate me for not liking the MonsterVerse. As of late, the whole phenomenon with “Godzilla Minus One” is the BEST experience I’ve ever had with the Godzilla franchise (Both with the movie, itself, and the fanbase), bar none! That movie has been an absolute blessing, and I don’t use that term lightly, if ever! I will cherish that movie for the rest of my life.
Godzilla is meant to fill a variety of niches, meaning it can appeal to both serious movies and goofy movies. I don’t really know why it’s so hard for hesei elitists to understand
@@Seadinos56783 You’re missing the point entirely. I have nothing against escapist Godzilla movies (Most of my favorite Godzilla movies are the escapist ones). The problem is that the MonsterVerse movies are poorly executed.
@@nerdsman567 Dang, I definitely understand what wild events you've been put through on the Internet (mainly with the Godzilla fandom/community/fanbase) and coming out exhausted from it and where you're coming from.🤝🩵🔥 The only MV film/movie and graphic novels/comics I truly loved is Godzilla 2014, Godzilla Awakening and Godzilla Aftershock. KOTM did slap the MV not so goodly. I mean can you and people really say the same thing towards the Transformers franchise and movies/films included; the Bayverse and the Knightverse? 🤔
Many people in this Godzilla community/fandom are often gonna use a "certain film/movie" as a weapon towards other people in arguments who are essentially more in-lined with a certain movie/film and completely are just too stubborn or/and ignorant to know anything about a franchise's lore. Just take a look at Godzilla/Gojira Minus One... Critics and fans were sprinting around using that film/movie as a weapon against other types of fans.
(this is a comment I also posted on another channel addressing this issue) It's a combination of the nature of fandom in general and the appalling toxicity of the internet. Sci-fi fandom is overwhelmingly male, and fans are people who continue to use their imaginations throughout their lives, instead of clamping them off in adulthood, as we are pressured to do. We can do that because we still have a part of us that remains childlike. That is, as we know, positive and negative, because, while giving us an energizing sense of wonder, it can also cause us to be immature. The hate posts and threats are a disappointing evolution of childhood name-calling and playground bullying in a time in our culture when spreading nastiness without consequences is practically effortless, and younger and younger people are able to access the fandom. The innate immaturity that allows us to enjoy fantastic films and other media leaves many of us socially underdeveloped and less able to relate to 'normal' people. This includes our conceptions of sex and sexuality. You're dealing with a predominantly-male population whose sexual access is often limited by their differences in nature from the majority of the population, so you're going to find a lot of individuals who don't know how to act appropriately. All this put together is a recipe for toxicity and disregard for social norms. I am NOT excusing any of this deplorable, even illegal behavior. I have pondered on this phenomenon since I first experienced fandom up close over 30 years ago, and thus far, these are the conclusions that I have arrived at.
I just wanna say I disagree with one part of the video The creator of the man in the suit was sent death threats which made him depressed and have dark thoughts But overall it’s chill it’s also kinda diverse with people like me who are lgbtq, autistic, and more who are females, with disabilities etc. I think the gatekeeping is happening against the critical drinker like dudes but that’s pretty much it Overall it’s mostly chill and the toxicity is ether dumb teens ore brand new minus one fans
To me fandoms that I'm not apart of and say are definitely toxic Marvel, Viziepop, Jurassic World, DragonBall Super. Rick and Morty, Overwatch, and Steven Universe fandoms chilled out over the years but use to be all up in the air.
Tbh with you I don’t really find the Godzilla Fandom/Community/Fanbase that colossally radioactive as you pronounced or toxic; it just generically feels like a bunch/group of kids who are just ignorant, and don’t know how things work; I think the community/fandom are capable of handling these people themselves unlike the Tranformers Fandom/Community.
I feel this quote decribes fandoms accurately. "Because as long as there are two people left on this earth, someone is gonna want someone else dead." People are gonna naturally feud with one another, its inevitable. If you believe the Godzilla fandom is toxic oh my do I have some horrors to show you across the internet.
I didn’t even know there were toxic fans in our fandom until Godzilla vs the Justice League and the foreign release of Godzilla Minus One Until then the only thing that people I met got mad about was the 1998 film and the second pacific rim movie being garbage. Even the gripes about 2014 only having 10 minutes of Godzilla was mostly reasonable or just meme-ified. People mostly just went “can you give us more of (insert reasonable request)? Less (insert reasonable issue)?”
I’m a positive and a big Godzilla fan myself and I enjoy these Monsterverse movies and any other Godzilla movies. From what I’ve heard that I agree this Fandom is super Toxic like you can’t compare these Godzilla franchises to one another it just makes me sad seeing this Fandom going out of their way to be toxic in general and I think it’s has to stop.
TBH i love godzilla movies and im a fan myself but when it comes to power scaling the fanbase is above toxic bringing up the same couple of feats from the movie. I havent read the comics but all i know is that there is muto prime and tiamat. But all I know is that ppl overrate godzilla when it comes to power scaling
Im about in the same level of interaction with the community as you are. Around this same time I had the exact same question and asked on r/Godzilla. The general consensus was that the fanbase is extremely tame compared to others, with most people being civil and respectful (normal), but there is some level of slight toxicity present, as there is in every fandom.
As another Kong fan, I support that. It's practically impossible to throw a good word about King Kong or any other monster without one of those freaks coming and say "BuT GoDzIllA Is StILL bEtTEr HA HA HA" The likes of John reeves, brandonbuckmaster and Ghidorahfan064 (and those aren't even the full list) are in that category. Thank God they're only people behind a computer and not studio executives
Pretty well put and to me the godzilla fanbase is like the transformers fanbase there both mostly chill and passionate while there are some toxic people in them there not on the level of impossible to ignore like how the fanbases of star war's, sonic, marvel, dc, etc which is a win for me and I've barley focused on the minor divide anyway Also i agree that the word toxic has been thrown around like a tennis ball almost to the point where it's a buzzword devoid of it's original meaning and I blame the legitimate toxic fandoms for confusing people on what's toxic or just pure passion at this point and getting innocent fans within those legit toxic fanbases and other fanbases that are chill in that mindset Also there's even case's of passion becoming/evolving into toxicity like the halo fanbase as a good example but I don't want to dwell on them or the state of that franchise much And as for my view on the polarizing views of the toho films, monsterverse, and the 1998 movie in my opinion what's wrong with liking all of them they all have there pros and cons equally so why choose one over the other Heck a good example I can make myself is that I like both power rangers and super sentai there the same series at there cores but are different from one another and that dosent make it bad they both good on there own terms and in there own ways
I consider myself a fan of multiple franchises and hobbies and will happily engage with others in those groups. The Godzilla fanbase is one of the select few where i have completely sworn off interacting directly with (the occasional RUclips comment not withstanding) due to the immense toxicity and elitism that ive encountered.
Short answer: Very. It's been polarized for a long time. It's not as toxic as others but there's gatekeeping and factions and fighting and personal attacks between fans.
Both fans and haters alike are toxic when it comes to this topic. Even the pasifict are just as toxic. Really... the only winner are the silent enjoyers that ignores everything
Yuh… I mean granted there are no winners around… just people blaming people because they don’t like how Godzilla is portrayed in their “story books” because they don’t got that much guts of effort into them from the get-go; The MV Films/Movies. People did the same towards the lowballed the original 1998 American Godzilla. (The only film/movie I beloved from the MV was Godzilla 2014 and Kong Skull Island 2017, the graphic novels and comics were good IMO)
@@233j I’ve come to accept that (unfortunately) it looks like a Godzilla and Anguirus hybrid. I’ve since ditched it and moved on to just not having one.
After Minus One came out, the Godzilla community practically ruined themselves thanks to Doktor Skipper amongst other people who copied him. So in short term, yes, the community has become toxic, but there are thankfully still good mature fans out there, so not all hope is lost. It's a matter of whether the fan community wants to redeem themselves or not
One big thing that made me distance myself away from godzilla fandom spaces is the treatment of the creepypastas I say this as someone who’s indifferent to man in the suit, its very well made but a lot of godzilla fans will throw its name in the mud “Oh but some people think its real” A lot of people thought slenderman and freddy fazbear’s pizza was real, whats new? “Oh they bring it up alot” Fandom jokes and phrases will last years and years, again, this shit isn’t new Why do godzilla fans make it so difficult to be a fandom
What annoys me now is power scaling. It splits everyone up just because those little shorts videos that say Final Wars Godzilla is better than Monsterverse Godzilla.
Yeah I’ve had a lot of people request I do powerscaling videos but I’ve always refused because it flat out doesn’t interest me. Whether or not a monster could defeat another monster is determined by one factor: the writer of the story. If it suits the story, a monster like Manda could beat Godzilla in a fight because that’s what the story needs to happen. It’s also something that’s wildly intangible and you can’t really have a meaningful conversation about. I very much prefer going in depth on the filmmaking of the movies, which is why my videos on kaiju media is more centered around that rather than powerscaling or “this monster beats this monster”. If people like that type of content and are generally chill about it, that’s 100% okay. It’s just not my thing and this channel is not the place for videos like that.
Agree with both of you Powerscaling has ruined the community to the point civil discussions are rare to find. (I’ve experienced it mostly in the MV community due to it being a strong topic there)
Honestly the only toxicity I really ever see is from new minus one fans that hate anything that isn’t serious and with a deeper meaning, or kong fans that can’t accept that kong lost. I feel like the Godzilla fanbase and overall the kaiju fanbase is really enjoyable
Then it highly depends where you're looking at. Just like there are many Godzilla fans who are indeed mature, reasonable and respect other monsters and fans there are many bad seeds there, and I encountered quite a lot for being a Kong fan😂 Edit: it’s been a while but after gxk it’s official- Kong fans are MUCH nicer and better fandom than that of Godzilla. Proud to be one of them
@@alexgomez6723 so you only like minus one? That’s fine I guess, each to their own. I mean I wouldn’t consider you an avid fan, but I’m a huge gatekeeper so take that with a grain of salt.

@@alexgomez6723 I highly disagree, just because a film isn’t exactly what you want it to be doesn’t mean it’s objectively bad or doesn’t use Godzilla right. I mean Godzilla is such a mandible character that he can pretty much be anything you want, that’s why he has withstanded all these years
So if I say Kong got robbed in G v K and should’ve gotten his electric powers regardless if u knew he had them or not. And anyone who doesn’t agree is a godjira gobbler. That’s just passion. Lmao. And I hope godjira fan’s understand that regardless of how stupid or lame they think it is.
I genuinely don't understand how you can love the Showa era films & hate the Monsterverse for being too over the top. It's not AS silly, but it's definitely going for super serious vibes either. If you think the human characters suck, that's fine. I don't think much of them at all, because I'm not there to see them. Just like many of the older films, the characters mainly serve as exposition & ground the story a bit. Otherwise, people want to see Godzilla & other giant monsters! Focusing on characters, barely showing Godzilla, being very serious, etc. were all things that paid off for Minus One, but were also the exact things many criticized Godzilla 2014 for. I love the Toho stuff, but I think Legendary is doing great, too. Godzilla is awesome because he can work many ways. Being an unstoppable force of naturewho sets the planet straight when needed is just one of those ways.
In my honest opinion godzilla fans aren't toxic but when comparing the different many Godzilla's to exist yes the fans get very toxic. So honestly I'd put us at a neutral.
To be fair, I think he was just fed the wrong information. And a lot of the people just started shitting on him because everyone else was. Reminds me of the man in the suit drama, where the *12 year old* who made it was harassed for making Godzilla scary or something like that.
I don’t know if this info was true. I got it from matpat (the man in the suit drama) and the wrong information thing was most likely false, because I saw ONE comment on it and took it as fact. I was just sad the people started hating on one of my favorite RUclipsrs. I apologize for the inconvenience.
i once talked to someone on how i wasn't much of a fan of the newer godzilla movies, and i was almost immediately called an idiot for not understanding what minus one and gxk is when i literally watched both movies, i can't understand why this fandom can't accept opinions.
I considered myself being in the middle ground but lean towards the goods, even if I ever grew with them such as DC, Marvel, or in this case Godzilla. It’s fine if not like something as long it keeps things without any ill intentions. I still found baffling that there’s going to be people finding something to be upset, such as channels that runs on rage baits and repeat the same subject base on whatever is on trends like movies news or whatever “this person said” the last whenever without context/ with lies. A good or at least a neutral fan follows a fandom that has something to share with much context as possible. That way anyone can look for appreciations.
That's good news! A few people I know from Japan said high school drama anime is the big thing in Japan at the moment and that Godzilla stuff isn't as popular. nice to hear it is back being popular again
No… it’s beyond toxic. If you’re saying it’s not you’re probably part of the terrible community (not everyone who says it isn’t is but most). I can’t even say I like a new Godzilla design because someone will reply with “lmfao no heisei is better” or when I say I like the idea of the new gxk villains someone says “well Destroyah is better” like shit can I enjoy anything recent and talk about it besides minus one. I’m not even going to start on the power scalers. Love the franchise and old movies, but when people say that those are the only good films in the franchise when they’ve never even seen them is annoying. That along with being an ass about stuff is a terrible combo. Honestly I’m about done with this community of people online at least. When I meet Godzilla fans in person it’s shocking that they’re actually like respectful and understand what an opinion is, it’s crazy.
I just wanted to point out that the directors of Godzilla x Kong new empire and Godzilla minus one both like and respect their movies. Edit: and for me I'm just getting really tired of people whining about Hollywood this or Hollywood that like I get it you people dislike Hollywood who doesn't at this point but that doesn't mean you have constantly complain about it 24/7 or use some other movie to bash the other. and if I'm sounding toxic then I'm sorry for that, it's just if you don't like the directions the movie is going that's fine you can give your criticism but don't go saying stuff like trash or garbage because to me that's just out right disrespectful. Again if I sounded toxic I'm sorry.

Not sure if this moves the Godzilla fandom up to polarized level, but Alyssa Charpentier recently posted a video about leaving that fandom because of the overall predatory misogyny she and other female Godzilla fans have been getting. I would also recommend watching the Fandom Initiative, which are a group of youtubers combatting against guys like Nerdrotic and Drinker while also discussing about the movies, shows, and comics they like.
To be honest, the fandom is much more in the "Polarization" tier. While I understand fans can be passionate about what they like, when that passion turns aggressive to the point of borderline passive-aggressiveness, you can't help but agree that the fandom is becoming toxic.
I don't think godzilla fans are toxic, shit the kaiju community as a whole isn't toxic. Sure you may find some bad apples every once in a while but besides that there's not much to it.
From I’ve seen, Godzilla fandom as a whole is not super bad, I’ve seen worse (Star wars of course being one) but there are a few bad apples but overall I’ve really seen nothing that makes it toxic. Also Ghost is a killer band
I am kinda new to the Godzilla fandom but so far I find it pretty reasonable? There are moments like Dr. Skippers but I hardly find that unjustified and the division isn't that notorious. Specially coming from a fandom such as Halo. The Halo fandom is extremely toxic, there is a bit of this in the Godzilla fandom but I find that most people don't really buy the opinions of people who basically never consumed anything Goji related. In Halo people will buy anything and will defend it with their entire passion.
Monster Island Buddies summed this up perfectly. No. The fandom isn’t toxic because that is completely stupid to say. You are claiming by saying that that over half of potentially millions of people are all assholes. That is just ridiculous. There are toxic people in fandoms, but unless there’s a really, REALLY horrible community of people, then no fandom can just be labeled “toxic”, Also, you have completely mischaracterized SaltierThanCrait, we have/want NOTHING to do with idiots like Nerdrotic or Critical Drinker. Those idiots make people like SaltierThanKrayt users think people who dislike the current state of Star Wars are all like Geeks and Gamers or alt right assholes when that is just not true. Critiquing current Star Wars passionately is not inherently toxic, at least not the same way as some moron like Overlord DVD would.
Good Point and to be fair not everyone released in the current run have all been stinkers but atleast your one of the peeps that actually genuinely critique it And I agree that people lump others into specific groups way to damn much
These toxic fans bully other fandoms like lego poser fandom they make lego mocs and these toxic stans are bullying them saying that "godzilla solos🤓👆" While the vid not even abt godzilla this happens in skibidi toilet
A lot of people tend to see the term “gatekeeping” as solely negative, but some fandoms just like movements and cultures require a degree of gatekeeping if they want to keep the thing they love the thing that they love, or else you wake up one day and discover that your group no longer has a common foundation. It doesn’t mean that people outside the group aren’t “fans”. For example fans of the MC(inematic)U that don’t read comics, but only watch the movies are still Marvel fans; they are just a different type of fan, but they might not necessarily find much to interest them at a comic book convention that is more focused on the artists and writers for the comics, but that doesn’t mean such a convention would not welcome them, it’s just not catering to their side of the fandom.
Listen, any fandom or community can be toxic. I am in many different fandom’s and all of them have toxic people in them. I’m in a littlest pet shop community, furry fandom, Danny phantom fandom, J fashion community, and so many more. And there is been drama and toxic people and creators in situations where people harass a person. But even with the toxicity, I still like these fandom‘s. I also feel like personally people are way more toxic online than in person. A lot of the Fandoms I do a lot more in person meet ups, then hang out with people online and I find that everyone’s just so much nicer and chill in person than online.
I’ll be honest with you, I’m just happy Godzilla is back in the media. I’m extremely happy that we get the two sides of Godzilla. One is the dark and serious tone and other is this goofy and campy side. Even though I prefer the more grounded and serious style that G14 was going for, I am okay with having monsters beat up each other for entertainment sake while the story takes a back burn.
Now shifting to the later part of the video, I believe its a mixture of CEOs believe making the force female will lead to more women in the Star-wars Fandom. While the women also have male friends as guys who also enjoy it. One way which could have saved Star wars if they had followed the extended universe from the beginning, which had strong female characters next to the strong male characters.
The old Godzilla forums used to be absolute shit-holes. (As humorously pointed out in a Vrahno animation) But other than that? The fandom is honestly really sincere and loving. (Though perhaps a little bit autistic?)

I actually tend to agree with the first comment here- it mostly depends on where do you choose to hang around to get your impression of the fans. I specifically saw a bit too much of the RUclips Godzilla shorts where it’s mostly the powerscalers home turf and….let’s just say that these videos made me realize that while I have Asperger’s (very light autism), at least I’m a high functioning one lol Other than that, yeah I’ve encountered some really nice people there
Advice I have for everyone is whenever you're feeling angry, upset, scared, etc, and need someone to talk to but no one there is trying to imagine someone you admire is in the room with you and imagine yourself talking to them. For me I imagine myself talking to Ahsoka from Clone Wars. She is my childhood hero, and imagining what she would say and do to help me with problems helps me learn to calm myself down and to think critically about my situations. May Jesus Protect you and #ISupportWomen’sRights. And remember, you are never alone.
Naaaah, that dubious honor goes to MULTIPLE Fandoms actually: Star Wars Pokemon Undertale Smash Bros. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Literally EVERY Adventure Fantasy Cartoon Steven Universe The Loud House Anime, just... in General. You get the idea -_-
I follow Goji and belong to a human actors fan club too. I’m going to better behave from now on. Really don’t want to be “one of those fans” . I spend on Goji , I don’t make money from the big guy. I have nothing to say about that, it’s not my experience.Whatever your part in the fandom you can try and not be jerky. As far as that young girl being hassled by grown ups, that’s gross in any land , yuh-uck.
Im in mainly all groups but mainly monsterverse and even more toho , I have been a fan of Godzilla and Gamera fan for as long as I can remember , I am kinda branching out a bit to Ultraman so I’m not very educated on these parts of the Godzilla fandom.
From my experience as a casual viewer... I have seen worse fandoms out there. (Looking at you Star Wars and Rick & Morty) But online G-fans can be insufferable at times. I had bad experiences in the past due to gatekeeping and stupid "debates" explaining why your personal opinion is "wrong". I try to stay away from online fandoms in general.
The fact that there is a clear division between prequel and original trilogy fans and now sequel trilogy fans in Star Wars it's just insane. I don't know if people acknowledge that division.

the godzilla fandom used to be very toxic during the year of 2019-2022
during that time the most toxic fans are the stick nodes content creators
For me it was 2014-2023 ish
I remember back in 2014 I was arguing with a 1998 godzilla fan who was making bad points about 2014 I wish the dude that 11 year old me was arguing with was trolling but the did was being serious and his opinions about 2014 and the millennium era were so awful
It wasn’t just one dude who was a 1998 but I remember there was another who was making bad points about the older godzilla movies
Based tourist snobs
The way you write your comment makes you sound like a Anti-woke youtuber.
Minus one Famboys… that’s kinda cool… 💀
Why, just why?
Honest mistake I mean I forgot Kamobas existed until you mentioned him again, Gamera is much more well known
Even if they reference him is fine it's just that legendary would have to pay a lot of money for the rughts
Well Gamera and Godzilla is kind of sensitive topic for both Godzilla fans and Gamera fans, it's kinda like marvel fans and DC fans
Yeah? Well I remember one G-fan saying how I "must be a new fan" because I dared to say that G'98 was bad, or how I accidentally kick-started multiple hour long arguments for saying the same thing about Shin Godzilla.

Admittedly…I think that’s more a symptom of the Analog Horror community in that case, where it more infamously happens.
R/Godzilla and r/monsterverse is a bad representation of the gfanbase because Reddit is full of angsty and negative people
Well said! I don’t like many aspects of the newer monster verse movies, and I don’t like how mean many people in the Godzilla community are towards me when I express my dislikes. I love Godzilla, and it makes me sad to see legendary not give the newer movies better plots to follow. It is disappointing to see the newer Godzilla movies with so much potential fall short, which I believe they do, and I would be more open to expressing my opinions, but I fear I’ll be attacked…
That’s how I see so many people in the Godzilla community being so toxic…
Daggerfall is king
Well to be fair star wars was always leaning left politically since the original trilogy
This was the video this community we needed. Thanks for mentioning that there are factions in the fandom because I've seen people like EFAP lump Godzilla fans into an amorphous blob.
what is EFAP
I'd prob say its somewhere in the middle of toxicity
It really depends which side of the community has came
Ive met alot of chill godzilla fans
And some toxic godzilla fans
But at the end of the day its the internet and we cant do anything about that
I would say the Godzilla fandom is tier 2
We have people using there OCs to murder others, shipping wars and i believe we also saw people sending death threats to producers (though that were Kong fans appearntly)
Edit: Debates can get heated and there is r34, but that happends in every fanbase
Totally, don’t forget the war between power scalers and non power scalers, that debate left me dazed lol.

I feel like a reason that Godzilla fans are toxic is because a lot of them like myself had to hide their love of him due to bullying so when there is criticism or anyone saying anything bad about Godzilla they become very defensive.
Thank you, that actually makes a lot of sense 💙

(this is a comment I also posted on another channel addressing this issue)
It's a combination of the nature of fandom in general and the appalling toxicity of the internet.

Absolutely yes, pretty obvious when you interact with them for only 1 or 2 years, my own experience
I didn’t even know there were toxic fans in our fandom until Godzilla vs the Justice League and the foreign release of Godzilla Minus One
Until then the only thing that people I met got mad about was the 1998 film and the second pacific rim movie being garbage.
As a KONG fan, A true godzilla fan is a one who respect it and appreciate it. Not these 5 year old toxic fans who talk badly about other monsters.
As another Kong fan, I support that.
It's practically impossible to throw a good word about King Kong or any other monster without one of those freaks coming and say "BuT GoDzIllA Is StILL bEtTEr HA HA HA"
The likes of John reeves, brandonbuckmaster and Ghidorahfan064 (and those aren't even the full list) are in that category. Thank God they're only people behind a computer and not studio executives
As a GODZILLA fan...
Kong's pretty cool bro
Yey
Fr🦍
As Old Solitary Godzilla Fan From Toho & MonsterVerse soon I will leave Godzilla Fan Base & Kaiju Community in my way and forward.
Pretty well put and to me the godzilla fanbase is like the transformers fanbase there both mostly chill and passionate while there are some toxic people in them there not on the level of impossible to ignore like how the fanbases of star war's, sonic, marvel, dc, etc which is a win for me and I've barley focused on the minor divide anyway
Also i agree that the word toxic has been thrown around like a tennis ball almost to the point where it's a buzzword devoid of it's original meaning and I blame the legitimate toxic fandoms for confusing people on what's toxic or just pure passion at this point and getting innocent fans within those legit toxic fanbases and other fanbases that are chill in that mindset
Also there's even case's of passion becoming/evolving into toxicity like the halo fanbase as a good example but I don't want to dwell on them or the state of that franchise much
And as for my view on the polarizing views of the toho films, monsterverse, and the 1998 movie in my opinion what's wrong with liking all of them they all have there pros and cons equally so why choose one over the other
Heck a good example I can make myself is that I like both power rangers and super sentai there the same series at there cores but are different from one another and that dosent make it bad they both good on there own terms and in there own ways
Godzilla fans are just like dbz fans, neither watched their own franchise
Because not every aspect of the franchise was good or worth watching.
I feel like the fact that power scaling exists annoys me
Lately I tend to be on the same page with you. It outright sucks because of the people
Power scaling is ruined the fanbase, as a Ultraman fans really understand that
Short answer: Very.
As a person who was ridiculed just for making an OC, yeah. The Godzilla fandom is extremely toxic.
What was your OC like?
@@233j I’ve come to accept that (unfortunately) it looks like a Godzilla and Anguirus hybrid. I’ve since ditched it and moved on to just not having one.
@@SeafoamMidori Damn, and I thought the Godzilla Community/Fandom/Fanbase couldn’t get any more overboardly toxic or something.
After Minus One came out, the Godzilla community practically ruined themselves thanks to Doktor Skipper amongst other people who copied him. So in short term, yes, the community has become toxic, but there are thankfully still good mature fans out there, so not all hope is lost. It's a matter of whether the fan community wants to redeem themselves or not
I think things will just calm down along the way, the discussions really just got heated because of the short distance between the movies.
One big thing that made me distance myself away from godzilla fandom spaces is the treatment of the creepypastas
I say this as someone who’s indifferent to man in the suit, its very well made but a lot of godzilla fans will throw its name in the mud
“Oh but some people think its real” A lot of people thought slenderman and freddy fazbear’s pizza was real, whats new?
“Oh they bring it up alot” Fandom jokes and phrases will last years and years, again, this shit isn’t new
Why do godzilla fans make it so difficult to be a fandom
@@FirewoodMediaTV Good job not making videos on it, because the best thing we can do is to ignore it. 👍
Agree with both of you
Powerscaling has ruined the community to the point civil discussions are rare to find.
Just like there are many Godzilla fans who are indeed mature, reasonable and respect other monsters and fans there are many bad seeds there, and I encountered quite a lot for being a Kong fan😂
Edit: it’s been a while but after gxk it’s official- Kong fans are MUCH nicer and better fandom than that of Godzilla. Proud to be one of them
“Oh no!! They don’t like the shitty movies I do!!! 😭😭REEEEE TOXIC!!!😡😡🤬🤬”
@@alexgomez6723 so you only like minus one? That’s fine I guess, each to their own. I mean I wouldn’t consider you an avid fan, but I’m a huge gatekeeper so take that with a grain of salt.
@@Seadinos56783I haven’t actually watched Minus One, I’m a former fan that grew out of the copium I once inhaled and realized almost all Godzilla movies are trash that don’t utilize him to his full potential.
There are some toxic Godzilla fans in this fandom, but even then there are saner fans who are more than willing to call them out for their BS.
To be fair, I think he was just fed the wrong information. And a lot of the people just started shitting on him because everyone else was. Reminds me of the man in the suit drama, where the *12 year old* who made it was harassed for making Godzilla scary or something like that.
You might’ve already covered this topic about the man in the suit, I just haven’t watched the the whole vid yet. If so, I’m sorry about that
Then thus comes the people in the comment section in every Godzilla related video/short saying “The Man in the Suit”(unless that’s part of the lore?)
I don’t know if this info was true. I got it from matpat (the man in the suit drama) and the wrong information thing was most likely false, because I saw ONE comment on it and took it as fact. I was just sad the people started hating on one of my favorite RUclipsrs. I apologize for the inconvenience.
@@MrWaSpY-Trn it’s not. It’s some really cool kids horror series about Hiroshima and what America did to them.
i once talked to someone on how i wasn't much of a fan of the newer godzilla movies, and i was almost immediately called an idiot for not understanding what minus one and gxk is when i literally watched both movies, i can't understand why this fandom can't accept opinions.
Isn’t Japan always love Godzilla?
That's good news! A few people I know from Japan said high school drama anime is the big thing in Japan at the moment and that Godzilla stuff isn't as popular. nice to hear it is back being popular again
Short answer: pretty much
No… it’s beyond toxic.
And better yet why don't they go out and make there own movies if Hollywood pisses them off that badly indie media has become more popular then ever so why not jump into that
And even if indie media isn't fully different from Hollywood or Middle market stuff but still
@@esukgfjyijlgul5335 I don't have problem with criticism but that doesn't mean people have thrown insults at movies that they feel wasn't good to them. The issue I have with some people is that they're using minus one to justify their hate boner for Hollywood and it's getting really tiring.
@@esukgfjyijlgul5335 I wouldn't say that on the first part there are fans that noticed the flaws and give criticism. It depends on who you're talking to and the whole wanting a decent story is fine but people will have their opinions some will agree and some will disagree, and true there are toxic fans but they don't speak for the entire fandom.
Edit: I'll admit that the story got problems but I'll still find it okay and I'm sorry that you encountered some toxic people online.
I’ve noticed that it’s mostly western Godzilla fans that do that shit🤔

Not sure if this moves the Godzilla fandom up to polarized level, but Alyssa Charpentier recently posted a video about leaving that fandom because of the overall predatory misogyny she and other female Godzilla fans have been getting.
I would also recommend watching the Fandom Initiative, which are a group of youtubers combatting against guys like Nerdrotic and Drinker while also discussing about the movies, shows, and comics they like.
someone harassed the actor for Geia from GVK and GXK
To be honest, the fandom is much more in the "Polarization" tier. While I understand fans can be passionate about what they like, when that passion turns aggressive to the point of borderline passive-aggressiveness, you can't help but agree that the fandom is becoming toxic.
I don't think godzilla fans are toxic, shit the kaiju community as a whole isn't toxic. Sure you may find some bad apples every once in a while but besides that there's not much to it.
Yep I agree, the most toxic fandom I've seen is the MHA fandom. They send straight up death threats to the creator...
being in denial won't change, they're still toxic no matter how many shit films are made lol
There are toxic people in fandoms, but unless there’s a really, REALLY horrible community of people, then no fandom can just be labeled “toxic”,
Also, you have completely mischaracterized SaltierThanCrait, we have/want NOTHING to do with idiots like Nerdrotic or Critical Drinker.
Good Point and to be fair not everyone released in the current run have all been stinkers but atleast your one of the peeps that actually genuinely critique it
And I agree that people lump others into specific groups way to damn much
No, its just that the fanbase is INSANELY passionate
Algorithm sent me here after watching another video on this topic. I recommend looking up Alyssa Charpentier’s contributions to this conversation.
Check out my most recent video! I talked about Alyssa Charpentier’s vid near the end
@@FirewoodMediaTV 👍👍 just saw that you uploaded that!
Unknowingly received death threats and other kind of harassment from godzilla fans while he’s a minor, what tier is that.
Every Fandom is
It’s the Nature of the Internet’s recycling goose chase if you think about.
Every single fandom has toxic fans. BUT THEY ARE NOT THE MAJORTY HOPEFULLY
cring fans on the other hand. i feel bad
7:56 Isn't that literally cancel culture on twitter?
Fandoms can be toxic and they are toxic because they are passionate in what they love.
The old Godzilla forums used to be absolute shit-holes. (As humorously pointed out in a Vrahno animation)
But other than that? The fandom is honestly really sincere and loving. (Though perhaps a little bit autistic?)
As long as you stay away from RUclips shorts, Tiktok and Roblox games the fandom is pretty great
@@K.Pershing Well… Most Godzilla games on Roblox got nuked by TOHO recently and I don’t have TikTok, so I’m pretty much safe. (I only watch RUclips shorts to watch my G.O.A.T ClassicManD)

I actually tend to agree with the first comment here- it mostly depends on where do you choose to hang around to get your impression of the fans.
I specifically saw a bit too much of the RUclips Godzilla shorts where it’s mostly the powerscalers home turf and….let’s just say that these videos made me realize that while I have Asperger’s (very light autism), at least I’m a high functioning one lol
Other than that, yeah I’ve encountered some really nice people there
i think g fans are very protective about their stuff, but not toxic until stupid makes it's way in.
I’m a model train fan and a furry fan are those toxic too?
The furry one mostly is.
Naaaah, that dubious honor goes to MULTIPLE Fandoms actually:
Star Wars
Pokemon
Undertale
Smash Bros.
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic
Literally EVERY Adventure Fantasy Cartoon
Steven Universe
The Loud House
Anime, just...
Yes. It is toxic, Same with other fandoms but i mostly don't communicate much with them. I'd rather be a ghost instead
