The reason why Larry was slow & couldnt jump is bc that was God's way to make things fair. - Charles Barkley
Bird had same vertical jump as Karl Malone.
@@davemartino5997 yep...same as MOST black players his height and taller. It's very rare that guys taller than 6'6 can leap like crazy, it happens, but kinda rare. Funny how nobody talks about Tom Chamber's "amazing athleticism"....and he was 6'10...🤔
Absolutely
For a guy who couldn't jump he sure got alot of rebounds
@@manny4552 highest BB-IQ in NBA history. 🤷♂️😎
I remember Bird telling the opposing coach that he was disrespecting him by playing a white guy against him and not a black guy. I found it so funny. Brilliant 👏 😅
Bird is black he just has a skin condition!
He told Barkley that not a coach.
@normancounts2924 he told multiple players and coaches that.
He told coaches you need to get this guy off me and when he didn't he torched the guy and forced the coaches to put someone else on him.
Hahahahahahahahahhaha
And racist
Larry's first two steps were quick..his slowness was an illusion..
And he made it count. The stats say it all.
Absolutely agree. Have you seen that in prison video with the "I'm Going to throw 3 punches...." Prison Dude faked out the guy with the illusionary "slow" 3rd punch. Larry was brilliant at knowing at what 'illusionary speed' he was moving would be right under that 'Super React button'..... It's not about 'projecting' his moves he'd straight up tell players his next moves and he'd still land it ..... Fucking brilliant.
He probably wasn't trying for speed. Going slow probably upset the faster players. He probably did it on purpose. Like he'd wait until people were one step away before he'd normally shoot.
@@donolinger6904 I hadn't thought of that. You make a go point.
@@GMobyIn prison video?😆 That wasn't prison. That's Michael Jai White showing Kimbo Slice that slow, not telegraphing punch you mentioned on a movie set.
Their fighting scene played in prison, that's why they wear those prison clothes.
Larry Legend had the respect of all the brothers in the league. He was unstoppable.
All of the brothers had big respect for John havlicek.. Jerry west . Rick Barry and pistol Pete too.. when your good.. your good . Skin color does not mean much... Everyone hated Rick Barry as a person.. but not as a player
Too bad the league sucks now and only idiots watch it.
Put tayshaun prince would've ❤️ guarding 💂♂️ Larry bird, Tayshaun prince would've ate a 🐦 sandwich for lunch,,
"Yeah I feel like...43." - Larry to the Utah Jazz bench before the game.
And ended up scoring 43 that game :D
I loved how he also trash talked his own team members and all the coaches. He wanted to get the job done, get paid and go home so he could get back to fishing and his family.
Realest dude ever
Larry just wanted to win. At any cost.
@@11DNA11Not true. Bird despised dirty players like Laimbeer. Bird had hard lines he wouldn't cross. He has nothing but contempt for the people who did, people he saw as inferior players who needed to cheat in order to compete.
Bird was a beast....a lot of the black players on other teams didn't wanna give him his respect! He made them respect him. 😅
True especially during 80s
No that’s not true.
@@retiredmindset9589yes it is true
But today all you hear from his rivals was how great he was. He had their respect but they wasn't gonna show it until they were done playing, it showed weakness in those days. Bird was respected and feared by everyone then.
Bird was respected in college..stop that
Larry actually played by the rules - no 3/4 steps & shoot and no carrying the ball through 'the move'.
Absolutely. Jordan cradled the ball like a newborn baby

@arthurmorgan9944 hard no. Original name too 🤣 do you steal everything you use?
he may have talked trash by doing what he said he would do, but, from my understanding he never called opposing players degrading names. that's impressive.
He called a guy who stole from him little 💩

I loved that Era of NBA basketball!
That era will never come back because it was the men who made it special not the league. People have declined since then.
Yup now I only watch formula 1, tennis and fifa ⚽
NBA players looked at Birds skin color while he looked at their weaknesses. His ball IQ was through the roof and he knew he had to beat the best to get his respect.
I watched a video on RUclips where a group of ball greats were being interviewed and as they discussed Larry, one of them said really carefully, "I say this only on the most respectful way, but you gotta think that that man had a little N.... I'm him. And he used the whole word. All these great players nodded their heads in agreement and some repeated it. In it's simple and awkward way, these greats were saying something like, he is part of our club, or he is part of our group in a way I have never heard his greatness acknowledged
Larry learnt a lot of his craft playing with the black waiters who worked at the local hotel , When he was a kid .
Say cap
As a white dude that played pretty high level college hoops (obviously I’m not larry bird lol) a key to me getting better was playing pickup with black kids instead of my Polly purebred white school friends. My father actually would take me and make me at first because he grew up in the projects and knew the benefit it would have on me( I was like 8). Always better to play against the best competition you can youngins
@@jujuonthatqueef5043
A couple of friends and
myself tried that and the black guys didn't want us there, so we left.
@@t4texastom587 black environment hoopin is a lot different. You should’ve stayed and held
Your ground man, once they see you can hoop the chirping will stop for the most part. There’s always someone mad that a white boy is dicing em up tho lol
Bird said he played against the best growing up. He was fortunate enough that Black people allowed him to play with them.
It is gonna be a long night, Sal! There will be never ever someone like Larry Legend!
I took the time, money, and trouble to attend two pro basketball games in my life. The first time was a game with Pete Maravich playing, and the second one Larry Bird
was playing.🏀
Good choice
Who was better? Pistol Pete or Larry Legend?
@@arln1966 Is that a legit question even?
@@11DNA11 yeah, because they were both equally great but one was better than the other
Larry...he was a deadly shooter
I like when he won the 3-point match he told the other players THEY were playing for 2rd place ( he had it won)
He made the brags and executed them ruthlessly.
Larry Bird wasn't slow; he was deliberate. BIG difference.
Most don't understand that difference.
Bro he was slow against Dominique and Mj I know that. But still the bigger dog. His all around game was a gift to all of them, especially Michael.
😂 "mouse in the house" to John salley🤦😂😂😂💀
What does mouse in the house mean ?
@@paula-yr7pp size based mismatch in the paint
@@noahwhangDoesn’t have to be size based, as Salley is bigger than Larry, it’s just somebody that you can easily score on in the post.
@@elitemidrange sally has Larry by 1” dude
@@davemartino5997 Sally was 6’11 and bird was 6’9, that’s two inches. In either case, whatever the height difference is, Larry is smaller, so my point still stands that saying “mouse in the house” doesn’t have to be size based.
there's a reason why in the old NBA games if you wanted to unlock MJ, the only way was to beat him 1v1 as Larry Bird. Cause he didn't miss his 3
Larry Bird being slow and unable to jump is the biggest myth in the NBA.
Bill Russell agrees. At least on the jumping part.
meanwhile devin booker cries when double teamed lmao better era my ass
Calling the 7 foot Sally mouse in the house 😂
The magic of bird is that he follows the ultimste process; same as MJ, Kobe and a long list of champion. They practice longer and harder than everyone around them. By the late 3rd quarter and 4th, the endurance kicks in. Bird knows you dont take homework as seriously as he does... therefore, you have to be punished.
Great analogy
I don't watch NBA now ,but I feel lucky loving this era of basketball as a kid.
"Which one of you all is coming in second" LB Three point contest
I'm so glad this was my generation of the NBA growing up!!

He is one of the best NBA players ever regardless of color. Shot maker x10.
Larry Bird was always my favorite basketball player.
Mine too since ‘84/85
Finally, I hear a black player say what I’ve been saying all along: Bird is white, but he plays like a black guy. That’s how he was brought up when he first learned how to play and it shaped his entire game for the rest of his life.
It's the Incredible, Amazing, Larry Bird, "The Birdman," " Larry Legend" in yo' face!...
People dont realize Bird was 6ft10 he was a beast
The NBA was playing basketball while Bird was playing HORSE.
Larry was one of kind for sure ! He was a true baller
Larry Legend
Yes, ‘nuff said
“Begged to be double-teamed” IS OUTTA POCKET, AYOOOOO!!!!
So let’s stop any comparing people to him. Who’s doing this now? Who’s walking into hudles & telling the opposing coach and his staff what the play is going to be?
Who’s dropping 37 lefty. If BIRD came into todays game, he would be shooting 40% plus fro the ARC with both hands. He would actually add a category to the 50/40/90 club.😊
For a guy that players thought was slow and couldn't jump, Larry did ok!
As the brothers in the NBA would say during the Larry Bird era was the white boy was a baaaaaaaaad motherfucker!
Yeah ok 🤣😜 how about when Bird would tell the other team where he was going to shoot the ball from and did it. His passing was as good as his shooting
Trying to figure out how a guy who couldn’t jump averages double digit rebounds in his career
@@tomarmstrong3297 he was an architect of boxing put opposing player's, Bird would put himself in a very good position to grab a rebound and at the same time be blocking the opposing player from the basket, plus Larry had good size, he was 6'10"

Bird is an enigma of sorts. He was a huge trash talker on the court, but off the court he was unassuming, country boy from French Lick, Indiana. When he is present with other players telling stories about him he looks almost uncomfortably hearing about his trash talking days.

Either the algorithm & my feed are going nuts or maybe Larry Legend's getting ready to die soon.
I think it's the algorithm
Larry is the real GOAT. Love MJ, but Bird was just different man. Never have seen anyone like him again.
Stop it. Larry himself said MJ was “God disguised as Michael Jordan.” Plus Larry is arguably not even better than Magic 🤷🏿♂️
All 3 are great. It depends on what you like. Bird Magic and MJ. The Trinity. And u can take your pick. They're all great. I love Bird. But I'm ok with having MJ or Magic. It's not a drop off to go from MJ to Bird or Magic. They ran the 80s the best era easily. Nobody will beat those 3 on the same team
There’s no one like Jordan either bro… I don’t get why you think Larry is better lol he’s just a better shit talker tbh 😂
@@johnscilleto That's your opinion. And no he wasn't just a better "shit talker" -___- He fucking owned Jordan when they played one another, and that even includes in the early 90's when Jordan began his dynasty and Bird could barely walk.
@@elitemidrange You stop he said that about one playoff game that MJ LOST btw.
Even wilt chamberlain and bill Russell put Larry over MJ as far as an all around player goes .
Bird was a good team defender and played the game like chess he was always three moves ahead of everybody and always knew where to be and always got into peoples heads and was great at deflecting passes and causing other peoples offense to become stagnant. Good hands and good reflexes and always out worked and out hustled his opponents because he had to make up for not being as fast strong or athletic. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.
I love the shorts with these Super Humans, Larry and every player out there is there because of work and ability, I really believe the respect and love each other especially in in the later years!
My high school teammate has the distinction of beating Bird and Indiana State, 3 times in the 1978 season. Home, Away and for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. We know what happened in 79... 😆
This was before ESPN, cable, internet...so when I saw L.Bird in the tiny print of the newspaper, leading the nation in scoring 30+, starting in '77, I called my boy and asked, 'Man...who is this bad brother at Indy St. Fillin' it up!!' (I imagined someone like Marvin Barnes, or Larry Kenon). My guy just asked me, are you sitting down? He said Larry Bird was a white boy, not only that, he was slow and couldn't jump... but, he's the BADDEST white boy I've EVER SEEN. True story...
Larry might have moved slowed like a sloth in the manner of Jokic and Kawhai, but the Legend always got it done! The man was on a Mission irregardless of the speed and atheliticism!
Not fancy like many these days but not as slow as some claim. With his smarts, spatial awareness, and accuracy, plus 6'10", Larry Legend got it done. The stats tell the story.
Sally tells a great story, I could listen to that dude all day.
If im the position of my height , which is 6ft 3 , and im adding four other players on the court at the other positions , im taking MJ, Bird , Duncan and Kareem .
Love these videos of Bird

He was the best when he played it was good basketball back then
It's called going slow fast.

Main reason why he's top 5 & the best SF ever. Larry Legend.....ice water in his veins.
Yelling “Mouse in the house” to a dude 3 inches taller and 20lbs. heavier is WILD DISRESPECTFUL 😂
Larry legend...... badass somebody...and Sally could play some D..... that's why he's Larry legend....bad mamma jamma
That wasn't a scrimmage. That was an NBA game.
My grandpa is from French Lick, Indiana and he used to be friends with Larry Birds older brothers but they wouldn't let him play basketball because he was to young 😂
“mouse in the house, take that”😂
One of the BEST!!!!
John Sally's first words to my sister (his agent's nanny at the time)," you are SOOO white."
Speed and quickness are two different things. Larry Bird had the best hand eye coordination of probably anybody to ever play in the league and while he wasn't fast he was very very quick to react and his mind was among the best. So when you have somebody with one of the best basketball Minds who's able to process that information quickly, the best Court Vision and eye coordination anyone at that size has ever possessed in the game along with the toughness and determination and work ethic mixed in and you have Larry Bird
Larry Legend ❤❤❤
He looked slow as he was going by U😊
I’m a huge laker fan but I highly respect Larry legend. Him and Bill Russel are the only Celtics I like. Larry deserves all the praises he gets
When some black players said in the press that if Larry were black, he would just be considered an above average player. Larry, at a news conference said, big it don't bother me, I don't see why it should bother anybody else. End of story
I wasn't born when Lary was playing but I learned some things. If Larry gives you his play by play and do those things to you, then you need to sit down on the bench. If he say double team him then you should do it lol
Gotta love the BIRD!!!
Straight talk brothers took them alll to school damn!!!!!!😅
Larry said his best two defenders were Michael Cooper and Scottie Pippen
People talk about the athleticism of today's players and how Larry couldn't keep up if he played in today's NBA. Let me tell you something: Larry Bird's mental athleticism would toy with their minds and would make these boys wet their pants.
Larry Bird was one of the greatest, but the Spider is humble and hilarious. Play the tape of John telling the story.

How does asking for it to be harder categorize him with known underachievers again?
How about just showing the clip of Sally telling the story?

Lol amazing how many people never met Pete Maravich He even spoke like he was Black
Pistol Pete and Paul Westphal both had funk in their games.
Larry Bird only beat magic Johnson one time and that was in 1984
in 2023 Bird would have been accused of culturally appropriating black people. Best SF in NBA History (I consider Lebron a PF, so I can put them on my own dream team.)
I would rather have Bill Russell as my starting power forward than LeBron James
