I thought this was going to be a video about how Aigis is one of the best written video game characters of all time but I forgot she’s also in a fighting game 😭😭
If you really think Aigis is well written then I'm disappointed in human race
@@glassofgas8631 that’s an insane comment lmao
@@rurounieli914 okay, sorry. I had piss in my head. I wanted to say that Aigis isn't that good as character. Way better than majority of p3 cast, but nothing great. Anyway it's only my opinion and sorry if original comment offended you in any way
@@glassofgas8631 I’m not offended, I don’t care about your opinion at all. That was just a very… odd thing to say to someone that simply likes a character lmao. It’s like I said I believed the earth is flat or something 😭

AYO.
Serious question is there any character in P4A where there isn't footage of LK getting washed? Also I don't need the 480p glasses after watching so much 240p. :)
Prob yukiko?
prob not cuz if they're playing LK in the finals/gf they got some bullshit going on.
I used to play Lk at locals this man literally fought in finals every bi weekly. That dude was nice.
@@Rocket_Ron he still nice wit it
I wasn't trying to throw shade, I just am curious given he has the backlog of these vids where he gets washed.
The big issue with characters like Aigis and Izayoi is the inevitability. They have a resource that they can hinge the game flow and structure on so it’s always an uphill battle in a way. I definitely think hover dash being tied to a mode is always a mistake because of this. There needs to be risk to these hover dash characters or it’s too consistent.
That’s why I-no is the best hoverdash character.
Aigis has been one of my favorite fictional characters ever since I played through P3FES about 2 or 3 years ago, so when I started looking into P4A stuff and found out she's a really broken, rushdown character with incredibly explosive damage that just has insane, crazy mix I was so hype. Her execution barrier is fairly high (and I am bad) and sadly this game is not played a whole lot nowadays, it's become kind of a discord fighter, so I never really got the chance to learn her since I got into FGs waaaay late for P4A mainstream, but if this game shows up on PC with rollback by some miracle, I'll play her so much.
Welp, now all we need is rollback!
BY SOME MIRACLE
the miracle is here
@@SmugVL Sure as hell it is, and she's as hard as I remember lmao. I'll have to grind her out, improve my execution a lot, but I'm happy to be able to play her.
This sort of stuff seems to happen when they give characters the strengths of an archetype, but doesn't actually give them the weaknesses typically associated with that archetype.
Like times when I-no is supposed to struggle in neutral but has excellent mix to make up for it, but then doesn't actually have that much of a struggle in neutral. Or when zoners have insane defense like Vatista in UNI. Or when puppet characters don't need to worry about maintaining puppet health like with Carl's absurdly tanky Nirvana.
Just times in general where weaknesses are shaved off instead of absurd strengths.
I agree, characters that lack their archetypes usual weakness are often not intentionally designed that way. If the limit you put on them realistically never comes into play as a real disadvantage when you are competent with the character then it might as well not be there at all.
broly in DBFZ who's just as good full screen as he is in your face and can get to grab range in 20 frames lmao
Zato's Eddie gauge in Strive regenerates way too fast. It's night & day compared to Xrd.
@@strang7739 what's his defence like?
@@containeduniverselow4790 the thing about Zato-1 is that his "weakness" is supposed to be his technical difficulty; sure, his meter regens fast, but if you can't perform the right tech, it gets burnt through faster.
I love all the persona and anime game history content on the channel. I'd love it if a video going in depth on shadow characters was made.
Aigis wake-up backdash in Orgia makes the Labrys match up so hard lol. Even when I would knockdown the Aigis player, I'm still on my backfoot. Love the old-school P4U video LK!
I actually bought P4A on my xbox a little while back because P4AU isn't on it. Seeing it played competitively has opened my eyes to how insane the game really can be.
Thanks for sharing I love these types of videos
People do not understand how insane it was that every time aigis orgia dashed in her pressure it was just basically a safejump lol. Vanilla p4a was my favorite arcsys title man. There's just something about this game that was so fun at the time even though it's like unplayable tier broken. Chie 5a was so unbelievable. Slab just kinda did stupid shit. Akihiko just ran up and gorilla mashed some armor and sometimes you just lost.. The legendary sweep 5d narukami oki no one's ever going to forget. Even the low tiers were kind of nonsense with their damage output. Not to say labrys had any chance of being viable with her matchup into chie and teddie but red axe was still some absolute nonsense. And yeah my favorite character to play in any anime game aigis who just sort of oppressed you at all stages of the game. I still don't understand why p4u failed so hard to capture the magic of vanilla. Was it the games fault? Was it the communities fault? Maybe it was a bit of both? I also feel like we missed some great breakthrough in the casualization of fighting games whenever arcsys abandoned this project. Something about SPECIFICALLY this game was just fun for everyone regardless of skill level with the mechanics people would typically complain about hiding depth like autocombo meter build and stuff. Anyways solid video.
As an aegis main, glad to see her getting some shine. Her boost-o mixup is crazy bruh
I forgot about Evo 2013, I had that pic of you in pure exasperation as one of my avatars years ago. P4A is such an insane game.
Yoooo, LK def knew something was coming.
imagine my surprise when i found out my favorite persona character is also a fuckin sick character in p4u
Thumbnail goes hard
gather around kids, LordKnight is gonna tell us about fighting game history again!
How do you feel can one "fix" such a character? How did the design for such archetypes change to define them better without running into "degenerate" territory? This video really made me think what design aspects lead to Aigis feeling so strong. Her feeling like "the best archetype" was also something that bothered me in my mind for a while. She seems like a install character that can kinda most of the time be in install for some reason instead of having a more volatile switch between rushdown and recharge/zone sorta like Nagoryuki. Her highs are really high and her lows are kinda more like normal mode due to being generally pretty safe. Risk reward seems skewed.
Having unreactable 50/50 off of anything negates decisionmaking for the opponent heavily if it has no cost. They gave her 2 ressources to limit her power but with proper management they dont seem to stall her much. Less orgia mode availability would have probably helped to make the bullets come into play much more as well making running out of ammo a real problem. Not sure how often that got to be relevant in reality.
Generally I feel like pressure that relies on conditioning the opponent and relying on forcing mistakes is a lot "healthier" because it is more interactive; even if the pressure sequences are longer as a result. Truly unreactable mix should be earned either by sacrificing other strengths/resources or have worse risk/reward. If they get to coinflip you on most interactions without some form of cost and they lose they should not be safe if the reward is big; rather the punishment should be equal or greater than the potential reward. Low reward rapid coinflips are less problematic as the risk/reward is often skewed towards the one getting mixed depending on matchups. (See Millia vs Nago) Winning by coinflip seems just as annoying as losing to it so having such situations be limited to special circumstances that have to be earned seems valid. For example if someone manages to pull up with the "terrible neutral" strugglebus all the way cause you did not manage to stop them then they get to do some dumb shit. Even if it is hard in terms of execution as LK said some people are gonna become good enough at it to consistently abuse characters strengths.
Man this got way too long. I probably missed something in my take but whatever I hope my braindump starts some interesting discussion.
I don't really care about fairness at all so I'd much rather the archetype shown in the video remain OD strong tbh. I'm probably completely alone but I like nonsense alot more than fairness even if it doesn't benefit me all the time. I'd much rather a character let me do my own thing and my opponent be the one who has to stop me. This can still be made interesting for all parties involved if the character power is extremely high and/or the universal mechanics allow you to approach unfavorable situations in different ways. I am not a fighting game boomer (started a year before quarantine) but if I'm being honest, the focus on balance over interesting gameplay makes most modern fighting games absurdly boring and linear.
@@o.o.4238 Except you can still have interesting gameplay, without making characters unfair like Aegis here.
It's called good balancing.
@@rachetmarvel931 I already said that I don't personally care about balance. Only interesting gameplay. Obviously if you care that's fine
@@o.o.4238 I can definitely see what you mean. System limits usually keep character power in check in newer games. Strong and unique characters that you gotta learn how to fight are much healthier for a game than bland ones that are figured out day 1.
These days patches hit so frequently that most characters reach a healthy power level anyways. Rather overshoot and adjust later than have a character that nobody wants to play on release.
@@o.o.4238 I suggest Chipp. He's pretty damn fun, and has quite a lot of easily achievable bullsh*t, but is also a character who forces you to pay attention to the opponent as well. He's REALLY fun to learn. (As an example of the crazy stuff a Chipp player can get up too, one time I baited a wake-up super by jumping over a fairly panicked opponent, then proceeded to rekka into sweep, command grab the guy on wake-up, then cancel the command grab into Zansei Rouga, and command grab him for the kill.
At times like this i wish there was another P4AU game. Im so sad that I missed out the 2nd go around
this is a good ass video
Could you make a video on Naoto Kurogane? I wanna know your thoughts on him since he’s my main and your my favorite fg youtuber rn
Make a video about kanji!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the persona grappler
More P4 content please, great vid
6:10 I just got done heading back to CF with the rollback and having to fight eternal Mai and then hear this.
P4AU remaster just announced, enjoy that crow bruh
My lord, that title...
"They won't BE another character like Aigis"?
Perhaps it was meant to say "There" instead of "They"?
As always, thank you for this blessing
as a Kanji player... I'm kinda glad the Aigis player's I fought didn't use Orgia mode too often. like some would, but most nope... but I wasn't that high a rank. I made it A+ but I wasn't fighting the character a ton. I love learning more about this game tho since I didn't play at a really high level.
Aigis was one of my favorite fighting game characters I've played. She's so much fun and she makes a lot of explosions.
Oh wow I forgot that Megiddo is unburstable lol
Lots of games from this Era are on pc but not this one. I wanna try it so badly...
Yo P4A ports just got announced lmao so dope
Ultimax is finally getting rereleased on steam and modern consoles, and this ultimax version is different than the one before, the one that was stuck in japan, I hope you can give it a try.
Yo is that a Mayflash F500 Elite stick you're using? Cause that's the same stick I just bought a few months ago as my first stick bro
Yo she's back now
I thought you meant in a more character writing kinda way, I was about to come down here and say that Labrys manages to capture a lot of the same kind of themes about internal conflict over being "real" without overlapping too hard with her sister
Cant wait for the blazblue content 🤩
This could be my opinion but I FEEL that XRD Ky Kiske and Johnny are another example of Aigis they don't have the weaknesses of their archetypes, have zoning capabilities, good mixups(or in Johnny's unblockable), and are overall very versatile characters but again that could just be me.
I remember this
Also aigis rocks
Damn man there really need to make another character like this tho 😞
closest is prob i-no in strive at the moment. she starts in orgia mode but doesn't have the consistent neutral tools like aigis's gun stuff.
dudes out there saying jiyuna saved p4au but in my heart I know it was LK and these videos
Does Izayoi from Blazblue count? She has the insane aerial mobility and mixups, plus strong midrange options to boot. She's very hard to play, but a strong Izayoi can seamlessly flow from slippery neutral to crazy pressure and mixups
Na i dont agree they are not comparable. Aigis can dash cancel off any normal. Pull she gets her resources for free. She is way faster than even cp izayoi. Izayoi also has no tight mix everything requires taking a risk somewhere whereas Aigis can literally JC you from full screen and its is insanely hard to react to. I get the similarities but they are just built different.
Ah aigis, Valkenhyn 2.0. Perfectly balanced as all things should be 😎
Is F-Hime from MBACC comparable to Aigis whatsoever? I figure F-Hime is likely easier to play execution-wise, though the way Aigis is explained it seems like Aigis has tools to deal with everything similarly to F-Hime.
They named a whole reflect after her 😨
God I’m on my hands and knees please p5 arena 🙏
Best birthday present I ever got was Yume Marie 2.0 footage
Only those 3 videos on hagiwara's channel exist
Hey I remember watching that too. How can I find it again? Haha
Sometimes I forget she even exists.
i played mitsuru and i can see where you're coming from. to me mitsuru feels like a netplay character. if your opponent isn't clean with their defense and just mashes predictably and stuff, you just explode them. however, in tournaments, people are clean af with their defense so you can't really expect to get those fat 5B combos or catch them with an air hit on 5a so opening up a character becomes super difficult. i know mitsuru has strike/throw, but I felt it was telegraphed. 5a at max range, throw up close type deal. but with a 50/50 character, no matter how clean your defense is, it'll only work 50% of the time, so really nice.
also that sequence at the end, I felt that. when my usual stuff just isn't working, I get desperate and do some weird shit. a lot of my gameplay vs better players was just getting strays cuz they just don't fall for the usual stuff. i wasn't that good, however. played too much netplay thinking the 5B stuff worked consistently. pretty much the only reliable buttons were her A buttons, and even 5A had it's share of problems.
2022 aegis returns. Does this mean p5UA is coming?
god i need the p4a games to be ported to steam so badly
Wish granted, Ultimax for Steam and modern consoles, all it needs is rollback
@@tropixx_xlr1549 god I hope it has rollback, this is a wish come true
u should make more bbcf content
Can I ask was the sequel any good? Or is it obsolete to the original? I played arena only
It seems to be good yeah
Better than the original
More P4A videossss
Reminds me of melee Fox. Theoretically if they make no mistakes, they have all the neutral tools and pressure. What do you do?
They won’t?
*GOOD*
would you be hype for P5 arena?
..damn u cant backdash on wakeup , this games mix looks messed up too
They won't
We won't get a game like persona anymore either, it's not only this type of character. It's getting harder and harder to like modern fighting games.
they/them wont
No LK, no *they* won't.
this character was so fucked up
