How is this channel not bigger? I could watch 100 "popular" channels and not get the information in this one video. Thank you!

This is so informative!! Wish they put this information on Petco and Petsmart. I bet this will help both customers and workers there. Anyway, love how your fish react to your fingers. They act like “Yay foooood!!”

    Great info, thank you!
I make my own root tabs. Swords are heavy root feeders. I just transferred 4 Amazon swords from a 75 gallon to my 270 gallon goldfish aquarium. They had outgrown the 75 gallon and taken over. Swords are the best bang for your buck. Plus they have had tons of babies!

Better to let it melt or cut it off? And we if we cut it off do we do it at the stem?

Is it better to let the plant melt naturally, or is it more beneficial to trim off a lot of the emmersed growth? Does the plant expend energy getting rid of old growth, or is it cannibalized for nutritional value?

    • @GardenViper
      @GardenViper 2 года назад

Yes, it does both. It does cost carbohydrates getting rid of old leaves, but it is certainly moving mobile nutrients to the crown.

Ive noticed that any plant I trim the dying leaves off of comes back much quicker.

Hi. Thank you for the information. I have a 2 gallon tank with only two plants, Java Fern, and Rosette Sword? I believe lol But I just started the cycle process a few days ago I added water conditioner, bacteria and plant fertilizer… I also put the plants into the gravel… I’m informing myself as I go into the process. But I wonder, how many tabs I have to put in my tank for the two plants I have and also how much light is needed? I’m probably doing it wrong, since I turn the light on a 12 hour cycle 🥲🥲🥲 Any help is appreciated 🌱

Ive been trying to grow these dang swords and been having no luck. I stick them in gravel, use root tabs and give them a lot of light. And they just die off or grow really really slowly and short. I even pour seachem fertilizer to no avail. The only things I can grow are hair algae.

It's really amazing. Finally I managed to grow Amazon sword and I don't need aquarium soil. My stem plants are doing great too. I'm an American living in Taiwan it took me 3 years to figure out all they need is cool water and liquid fertilizer maybe two or three times a week
Also I have to let my water sit 3 days in a clean drinking dispenser which pretty much allows the thread to rise to the surface because it's very acidic.
Once I fill the tank I add in some almond leaves and the water is completely neutralized even when I do a water change or clean the substrate.
I have not had a male beta or any other fish die in the last 6 months.
Literally God answered my prayers. My next goal is to see if I can grow other plants.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the die back was normal. I've been discarding them. Now I know to give them a chance to grow back. :)

My issue is my sword plant has about thirty plus stems but very skinny, mostly dead leaves. I just remembered I have CO2 booster and added it in with the root tabs I just bought last weekend. No change since the root tabs, hopefully now that I'm adding CO2 they perk up. It's even got a baby plant growing off the side but it's all stem! I've never seen one with as many stems as mine.

Petco sells them already submerged rather than how they sell them at petsmart, but most LFS have them submerged already. I never had them melt that way.

I have a 75g no Co2.. could I leave the plants in the pots they come in and just bury them in the gravel?

My sword plant actually did not melt. It has been on my tank or 3 weeks and didn't do much for the first 2 weeks. In one week it has shot up 3 new fresh leaves about 1 new every 2 days, however the new leaves seem much more translucent and tinged brown around edges. They don't look too healthy, any advice on why? I have only been using Seachem Flourish (which I hear is not best) and no CO2...yet.

I have never had an Amazon sword die on me. They will melt back when you get them as they convert but never had them die on me. I kinda find them to be a pretty hardy plant. They do grow big though, mine are two feet tall.

is it ok to not have root tabs and just plant it on gravel?

    • @christopherlamar9285

If you're fish load can accommodate your plant load then there's no need for root tabs possibly but you may suffer some deficiencies with certain plants or dose the water column

You will probably have to get root tabs or add aquatic soil before they grow too big. You can mix aquatic soil with water and freeze it, then quickly insert it under the plant before it melts. Root tabs are mostly baked topsoil and small amounts of fertilizer and trace minerals. You can get by for a while with liquid fertilizer like Easy Green from Aquarium COOP
