I have a couple of swords. I just stuck them in the sand and once in a great while squirt some liquid fert in the water. Sometimes I let the mulm build up for a bit. My plants love when I do that. Easy peasy!
My weather loach LOVES to uproot my Amazon swords! Drives me nuts 😂 I saw some videos where prople have planted them in terra cotta pots which helps to anchor them down. That is going to be my next step with the battle of the loach.
Perfect for walstad tanks, ie lots of capped nutrients in the substrate and just average light and liquid fertilizer (if any) keeps them healthy and growing. The first plant I look for when setting up a tank!
@@PalmerAquatics Surprisingly its Dwarf Ambulia. It grows like a weed in my tank. I would have said Jungle Val last year but its too invasive for me with too many runners that overtake the tank but still the easiest background plant overall I suppose.
I love Amazon Swords. Mine even have long runners with baby swords on them. They're easy to propagate. I've planted the baby swords in a new 40 tank I've had for a while and looking forward for them to really take off using Seachem root tabs.
they're in every one of my tanks. usually eco-complete or fluval stratum with sand on top. easy to find in petco, can sometimes find them with a baby coming off, 2 for 1
great video, my amazon placed in different location. some thrive some had a hard time. i believe substrate is the issue, too much lighting and less fertz
I simply can't grow mine with root tabs and liquid ferts. I had three huge swords a few years ago with no experience though. I wonder if the amazon sword I bought came with some kind of defect or fungus, maybe in the roots or something (is that posible in a plant?), because it was already ugly and dying when I bought it. I basically got scammed because I wanted a few amazon swords and they (the store I went to) gave me one tiny dying sword and a bunch of vallinseria.
I had a sword it grew huge I’d have to it to keep it to size and even split Beautifully into multiple plant but out of nowhere they all died any suggestions
These are durable as hell, I had one in an old biocube with a dying light for 3 years, was yellowed/only one leaf yet, presumed dead, i tossed it in my dedicated planted tank with c02 and a plant 3.0 light, new growth after about a year or two of slowly wilting.
Guppy grass will grow pretty much anywhere. You can plant it, attach it to wood or rocks or just let it float about the tank. Stems and leaves are too narrow to really glue it to anything
I'd like to actually try some Amazon sword I think we have some in Taiwan. but the problem is we only have fertilizer tabs from Germany and they're really expensive if they could last a couple months that might work. I've got a bank debit card in Taiwan so it could be possible that I might be able to purchase stuff online what I really like to get is stuff from aquarium co-op that would be really nice like liquid fertilizer and and fertilizer capsules. I also wanted to get some products from API where they've got like CO2 booster and some other thing from API but I heard these things really make your plans nice and green and healthy and they grow. at this moment I have only been able to keep a Nubia alive I'm trying to keep water and let us alive but it's hard because apparently water lettuce doesn't like movement of the water and then it needs a lot of light but I don't know if my lights are bright enough I mean I have two little LED clip on lights they're like mean for cubicle tanks but mine are basic rimmed aquarium tanks and I've been trying to get some new lights but cash has been tight lately due to covid So I just work with what I get I peel off the leaves that turn yellow and start to kind of disintegrate I'm not sure if I should keep it in the water for added nutrition I don't know I'm not sure cuz I've never had water lettuce before
save your money! the industry is full of people trying to sell you stuff you don't really need (they get a commission). there are many "beginner" plants you can grow without fertilizer (fish waste is enough), like Amazon Swords, Valinsineria, Anacharis, floaters (water lettuce is cool), and more. without experience, using fertilizers may only feed your algae! you need to be able to afford to make mistakes. if you do buy fertilizer, start with just root tabs for 3 months (you don't need many). it's good to remove dead leaves because they rot and pollute the water, but this is not too important unless they're large leaves. i'm not sure about water lettuce leaves. this is my opinion based on my experience, and other people may disagree. good luck!
Umm...mine turned into something out of Jurassic Park. Actually, any plant I plant explodes and becomes huge. My fish too. And no...no leaves are dying. One plant has taken over half my tank. So much for 'background' plants.

I dont vacuum my planted sand tanks. That’s good plant fertilizer!

good tips. nice tank!
one more tip: temperature. this is not a cold-water plant. took me forever to realize how dumb i am.
Yes good addition, thanks!

Do amazon swords need a heater?
In Taiwan we don't have a lot of different types of fertilizer capsules I'm wondering if I could just have them delivered to Taiwan

Can I plant these in gravel ? Or do you recommend putting it I stead
Were is the best place to get the Amazon sword plants at
Petco
Thanks Chris !!!
Wow man.. you look different.
You like it?
I always knew it was a filter !!! Chris get a bow flex for your basement lol 😂
Geez! Your so mean lol
Bowflex is too much work. Donuts and video games man. Who needs to love last 40?
How many root tabs do you add per plant? I have two new(ish) Amazon Swords.
After a month the leaves on mine look like they’re starting to shrivel.
Awesome
What’s up buddy?
