What's your favorite triceps exercise? Mine is actually the POWERBOMB, the one I speak about in this video. It's one of the few exercises where you can overload your triceps like crazy for a killer workout! Now some of you might prefer a cable ticeps pushdown because it puts less strain on your shoulders. BUT... once you start getting really strong, the weight will begin to life YOU off the ground. So the powerbomb would (at least at this point) become the better option. Keep those shoulders loose! Train hard! and always be open to learn new tips! 😁 *Try my 5-Day split 12 week program for free!* muscularstrength.com/program/5-Day-Bodybuilding-Split
Favorite exercise is power bombs with a super set of immediately doing cable tricep extensions. like to do 3 or 4 sets of these 2 exercises back to back.
I am lucky. I have enormous arms. I don't even have an arms day, I just hit chest HARD and finish with 2 or 3 all-out sets of basic tricep extensions. (same with biceps on back day) I'd love to do a powerbomb but it will put my arms in a position I can't safely due as my c5/6 vertebrae have been replaced. (Arms deep behind head can press on a nerve now) Looks like it maximises the stretched position so optimal growth in my opinion. Also those things you call "Shoulder breakers" I do every single workout, phenomenally useful. Drastically helped my mobility and completely removed any and all rotator cuff niggles I had.
Cable Tricep Extension with a rope. This single exercise has been a staple in my workouts for years. I love that I can feel a burn early on and its easy to ensure I am in the right form. In my workouts I ensure that I do exercises that have my arms at different positions to have the muscle at different lengths. Power bomb > Skull crusher > Tricep extension > Kick backs
Your instructions are really clear and easy to understand even for non English speakers, I have observed some exercises are really more effective if done at slow pace.
I would like to make a video request: how about doing follow-along workouts like you did with us several years ago? I need something besides workout tips. I need motivation.
Thank you for all of your instructional videos. I have a trainer one day a week, but the rest of the time I’m on my own at the gym…often needing a reminder about proper form. Your videos are the best!
Scott, you have been my source of knowledge for weightlifting and Fitness since i started my journey 6 years ago, i can't thank you enough, i would have been the average, misinformed, time wasting, gym-goer without your videos
I learned my skull crusher form from Scott with that video he plugged. Highly recommended for beginners. I’ve started using a cable version of the power bomb instead of the dumbbell, I find it allows my injured left shoulder feel more comfortable. If anybody struggles with a power bomb due to injury this may be an option to consider. 😊
Exercise selection is so personal. I have decent shoulder mobility but for some reason French press tends to thrash my shoulders. In general i find most (vertical) overhead extensions quite finicky and joint unfriendly.
@@ScottHermanFitness No hypermobility that i'm aware of. It just seems like something is off with those positions and my body. But no worries, plenty of other great triceps exercises to choose from.
@@ScottHermanFitness I have hyper mobile shoulders, skullcrushers or DB / Cable movements in this plane of motion really thrash my shoulders as well. For reference, my shoulders can rotate a full 360 degrees

The only thing I don't like about the powerbomb is it puts your shoulders into internal rotation combined with elevation. This can cause issues for people with shoulder problems
Great video as always Scott! Off topic question, I'm having a electricity type pain in my upper right forearm when doing barbell overhead shoulder press. The pain only occurs when lowering the weight. I think my form is correct based on your videos but would really appreciate any advise to relieve this pain.
Hi Scott, I'll be giving these a try tomorrow on my isolation day to see if they help. Skullcrushers are the one triceps exercise I really connect with, however, the second time I tried doing them I started experiencing a lot of pain in my right arm, only on the long head. It appears I've developed a "knot" on the muscle, so I've spent the past two weeks applying ice and really massaging the thing out. Yesterday was the first time I tried doing them again, and while it didn't hurt, I only made it halfway through my first set before my right arm started shaking like I was at the end of my last set so I decided against doing any more. I tried some other exercises but I just didn't feel anything in my triceps. We'll see how this goes.
Try foam rolling your triceps before and inbetween sets. Foam rolling between sets will help a lot with loosening up whatever is going on in there as the muscle will be warm. Keep me posted on your condition!
@@ScottHermanFitness Hey Scott. I tried the Powerbombs today with some foam rolling and am pleased to report that I had no pain! I just need to work on my form now. Kept on bonking myself in the head on my last set when I used a larger dumbbell. I'm going to keep on using ice and massaging it out as well. Appreciate your help.
are there many kinds of warm up exercises like the dumbbell rotations at 3:45 and the shoulder breakers at 4:08 ? if there are, a good idea could be to make a video on these kinds of warm ups and list the main workout exercises they can be used alongside
Great little video. Been working with an issue with tendinopathy in the area of the triceps that attach at the shoulder. Would the power bomb, with much less weight, be a good post PT exercise option to address with my physical therapist? Appreciate the content.
I'm not sure most beginners have the shoulder and thoracic mobility to execute power bombs correctly. Personally, I would recommend overhead tricep push away. However, since the cable machine is always occupied (for some reason) a simple alternative is doing the power bomb/skull crusher on an incline bench.
Very true an incline bench is a good tool for powerbombs as well! But for those who don’t have the mobility, that’s why I included all the shoulder mobility options at the end of this video 😁

It's basically the same movement as the "powerbomb" but man I started doing these seated incline dumbbell extensions in my current routine and that thing smokes my triceps. Set bench to fairly vertical (60-75° maybe), grab two dumbbells, start with your elbows fully extended straight up, then lower the dumbbells down behind your neck just like Scott showed on the powerbomb, keeping your elbows in the same spot, not moving them.
