You were the first fitness influencer who made me start this journey 7 years ago. God bless man and thank you for all the motivation and inspiration over the years!
Man, your little segment around 5:30 really motivated me. I’m 30, been lifting about 5 years consistently, and already I’ve seen so many people my age jump on and off gear before wasting away. I’m not growing near as much as I was but I’m maintaining and ever so slowly gaining. I hope to be able to maintain close to a good physique naturally as long as possible. Wear it like a badge of honor!
It's crazy I remember back in 2009/2010 I was in hs and watching you and barthel fitness got me to start lifting and taught me so much. Glad to see you doing well broski keep it up 🤝🏽
You are the GOAT, i have been lifting for about an year or so and your decade (maybe even older) old videos really help to learn the proper form of any exercise! First time looking into your recent explanation type of videos, and I got to say you definitely know so much about lifting. Will make sure to learn from your other videos, thanks a lot for helping the community out so much for FREE all these years!
Great education and encouragement Scott! I'm an older guy that returned to the gym a few years ago. One of my New Years goals is to really pay attention to my form when doing exercises. Your videos have been extremely helpful and I've already seen measurable gains. Next step is to get my meal plan under control. I'll be checking out your videos on that next.
So I started working out every day last December and my weight was 162lbs. Today I am about 180-181lbs. You can easily gain more muscle by increasing your weekly frequency of working out. Metabolic stress has nothing to do with muscle growth. I never start a set winded. You go to the gym to build muscle not do cardio. Muscle damage is related to muscle growth, but it doesn't cause the muscles to grow directly. You need to be intense. You have to use the effective range of motion that targets the intended muscle contraction and flexion. Rep range for hypotrophy is anywhere from 1 to 50 in theory, but we know 6 to 12 is ideal. I always lower the weight when my set ends with 6 reps for example. Take all your sets to failure. Do not do supersets or rest pauses or going beyond failure. Just go for proper rep range and you should have juice in the tank after the set but not enough for another rep. Stetch mediated hypertrophy is misinformation too. Unless you plan to have your muscles in the stretched position for an entire hour, you cant gain muscle by pausing excessively on essentric movements. Just do 4 to 8 second reps. Explode concentrically and control the essentric, but no longer than 8 seconds. Focus on feeling your muscle contraction. Eat right and sleep 8 to 10 hours. 7 to 9 for people who don't lift. Lift 7 days a week. Your body will tell you when you need a rest day. No wonder people are only gaining 20 to 25lbs in their 1st year of lifting. They are told its ok to lift 3 times a week.
Thanks for sharing Scott. Been creeping your old videos for a year now. Decided to subscribe because I appreciate your insights as a natural lifter. I also like the retrospective look back at your old work and opinions and being open to saying maybe your views have changed.

I'm glad you talk about the natural limit. I'm 5'8 40 years old and I think 160 12% will probably be the best I will ever do. Been lifting consistently with discipline and eating well for 15 years. I couldn't hit 225 bench until my late twenties, 250 came mid thirties, 270 at 38. While I've made improvements and look better year to year it's still taken years of hard work and dedication. Some ppl just have a longer harder road to ultimately end up with less and it's not necessarily that they have done anything wrong. What about someone who has reached a point in their life when their testosterone is starting to diminish and they use TRT to bring it back to normal. do you consider them natural on natural or what?

13:11 then why would professional bodybuilders risk injury, and ending their career which is making the money by lifting heavy when all they have to do is take the gear to get the results?
14:10 what is an enhanced athlete, trained a very long time naturally, and peaked out their natural results, and then use PED’s as a stepping stone to go beyond. Just because they’re taking PED’s does that mean that they can’t give you advice anymore?
This is gonna sound like a dumb question, but does gaining, let's say 20 lbs of muscle, mean you show 20 more lbs on the scale or does it mean you have replaced 20 lbs of fat with muscle?
if you’re asking, what is the natural limit, yes, it is a thing. Think about it this way, if it wasn’t a thing people that are 80 or 70 would be the biggest people around. But we know that doesn’t happen.
the body might keep adapting, but the rate of adaptation slows down to effectively 0 eventually. if it didnt people would be squatting 2000+ pounds at their peak@I-di-nt-do-nuff-in-

9:57 what scientific studies are you referencing? Were they double blind control studies? Did they go through the scientific method and have positive positive negative and experimental controls. All these studies never come to a complete conclusion, just correlations and theory.
7:27 is this more about your experiences, and how you feel? Are you trying to cope with your progress and where you’re at as a natural athlete? You keep on referencing these comments that you received. you can’t use your experience or progress to represent what everybody else can expect
Couldn’t these tips applied to enhanced athletes to should enhance athletes have expectations on how much muscle they can gain from certain compounds and how they can get from others. Would enhance athletes gain more muscle, if they use full range of motion, even though they’re on gear. When enhance athletes benefit from not bulking up so fat and creating new fat cells.
Let’s define what is meaning, natural or unnatural. Is it natural for a human to go inside of facility and use weight to create mechanical tension to damage the muscle for a response of muscle growth? Is it natural for somebody to take 5 g of creatine a day which they could never get without a supplement. is it natural for somebody to take herbal supplements that will help drain water and give them a dryer lean look.
Maybe a key reason why you haven’t seen so much more progression is because you look in the mirror and say well that’s it I’m natural I can’t gain anymore so I’m not gonna try my hardest. And I’m definitely not saying that you don’t look big or lean. You’re pretty much Goku without the hair.
You are sticking to outdated information when it comes to how body fat will hinder gains. There's nothing wrong with the path that you've chosen for your journey. BUT those who choose that fluffy route can also get some awesome strength and size gains.
@@ScottHermanFitness Sigh, BUT you are indeed referencing a video without outdated information regarding how body fat inhibits progress. And that information is absolutely wrong.
@@KM-hk8tc sigh... repeating yourself hardly makes your lame defense any stronger. Scott's mistake was relying on old studies that made an assumption that the relationship between higher body fat and increased insulin sensitivity would hinder size and strength gains in the gym. Research after the videos referenced were made has shown that not to be the case.
Iv been natural for about 10 years now as im afraid to take anything illegal incase something bad happens lol. I do find it a plateu though with consistent training, food and natural supplements. Natural bodybuilders like you can give good advise and i hope you can lol.

Pack of pop tarts everyday and stay lean 🤷♂️, and I do use if it fits your macros.
7:27 is this more about your experiences, and how you feel? Are you trying to cope with your progress and where you’re at as a natural athlete? You keep on referencing these comments that you received. you can’t use your experience or progress to represent what everybody else can expect
Fuck yes!❤❤
Hell yeah!
0:47 oops, Scott's Boston accent dissapeared and pronounced article normally 😂
Want bofbthe I am not sure
Natural is best trust me!
I use cheat rep's now and then. I'm going on age 47 this stuff ain't easy.
Somebody save me time what's the 7 mistakes
They often view being natural as if it is virtuous and morally superior.
Because it is ;-)
Most natural? What does that mean?
People that don't use performance enhancing drugs/steroids etc.
*_i am pleased to meet you💖😍🌹_*
Let’s define what is meaning, natural or unnatural.
By far the biggest problem with Natural Lifters is that they don't use drugs😂😁
Sounds like you're jealous that us nattys actually keep our gains :-)
@@ScottHermanFitness That was a joke.. Actually, I've been training for 38 years, a natural with bad genes 😁
What have I achieved with it.. nothing
What’s funny, Scott, is I feel like you look younger than you used to.
👍👍👍
:-D :-D
👍✨
Not natty ever after juicing! Preach it!
15:15 these are negative stereotypes about bodybuilders that are completely untrue. Some of the most intellectual people you mean are in this hobby.
I'm surprised you even go to a gym. I remember when your were building your own in your house.
Holy shit, there is no way you are 40!
Wait, wtf happened to Scott’s accent??!?🤨
What he is 40???? That's awesome looks like he's in his 20s
You are sticking to outdated information when it comes to how body fat will hinder gains. There's nothing wrong with the path that you've chosen for your journey. BUT those who choose that fluffy route can also get some awesome strength and size gains.
I'm not saying you CAN'T get strength and size gains. But you don't NEED to gain insane amounts of fat just to progress
@@ScottHermanFitness Sigh, BUT you are indeed referencing a video without outdated information regarding how body fat inhibits progress. And that information is absolutely wrong.
@abraham - a lot of “you're wrong!” but I don’t see you offering jack shit in your own defence.

We all hit plateaus man, it's normal - can be good to change things up, take a deload or soemthing to push past plateaus!
If you're lifting alot of weight you may need more recovery time. Maybe more protein and sleep too. Also, are you always in the same rep range ?
I'm surprised you even go to a gym. I remember when your were building your own in your house.
