2023 Hellcat with 800 miles Grenades! Warranty Denied.. 36k in Repairs

  • I react to a recent article put out by Carscoops in which the owner of a 2023 Hellcat Jailbreak states that his engine with only 800 miles on it is defective and Dodge refuses to pay for the replacement costs totaling more than 36k. Dodge claims the vehicles emissions system has been tampered with and this voided his factory warranty. Who do you think is right here?
Here is the article referenced in the video:

Dodge is unreliable when it comes to warranty defects despite everything being OEM. Except mufflers and oil catch can of course. The car is deemed to be a lemon if they don’t want to fix the problem like me dealing with dealership craps for 2 years I have given them many chances lol. I drive a 2021 392 widebody scatpack. Forgot to mentioned despite the breakdown period I have never done a single burnout and yet my driveshaft connected to the rear differential was spitting grease all over.

I'm a technician for Dodge going on 31 years now. I've never seen any repair denied for a muffler delete. If you tune it, that will void your warranty. For a claim, we have to do digital imaging of the eng damage. We also have to do a scan report on every computer on the car. We send that in and they decide if they will cover it. If you want to play you gotta pay.

Everything on my car is OEM as mention above and its deemed a lemon lol. The 2 dealerships I’m dealing with neglected my car. I worked as a technician a Chrysler dealer for 20 years, the stock tunes are set up a little bit on the rich side to help protect the engines. It is very easy to tell if a tune has been installed and it voids the warranty. I also worked at a Ford dealer for 10 years and I saw this situation many times. Almost every time the customer lied about it. One of the funny ones a customer had a SVT Cobra Mustang and driving down the road it would just cut out and come back. Customer was asked if he modded the vehicle and said no. I removed the PCM and it had a Superchips sticker on the back of the PCM 🤣. I`ve never seen a warranty denied for an exhaust mod, but mostly for neglecting service and PCM / engine mods. Even then you can a lot of the time get the DSM to cover stuff, what makes it worse for everybody is when the customer lies, it just waste everyones time.

By bet is tuner did an overly aggressive timing curve for pump gas and the engine has a hole in that piston. Dodge inspected engine and said it wasn’t anything I did, there’s been some internal oiling issues with the 6.2L. I actually babied the car while owning it smashing the pedal a few times. I really wanted to keep the car as a gift to myself after starting my own business and surviving 25 yrs (saying I’ve made it in life). That 2nd engine went out during break in period with about 250 miles on it. Chrysler denied me a 3rd motor saying the next one is on me ($30k) car was still under 3yr/36k warranty!! I bought my 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T new with STP and six speed manual. 3:92 gears. I picked the 5.7 because of the vvt. Less than 5000 miles on it and I had the suitcase mufflers cut off the back and straight piped back to the tips. Add an air hammer open element air filtration system. Also put the 93 octane tune from Diablo on it. It has ran this way since then. I have drag raced it at Z-Max and put 206,000 miles on it to date. Original clutch is still in it. I ran Royal Purple in it for all fluids. It looks brand new to this day. I went in last time to get it inspected. The guy came out and apologized for screwing it up. I asked what he did and he said that it read 206,000 miles. I said that it was correct. He could not believe it wasn’t brand new. I agree though. If I had a red eye that I would leave it alone. At least until out of warranty. Good video Racer X.

Stop with the don't mod it bullshit. These cars easily live at over 900 to the wheels beating the shit out of them. If it died with just a tune then
      A. It was a shit tune
      B. He wasn't using enough octane for what it's tuned for
      C. He ran it out of oil and/or was beating on a cold engine
      D. It actually was a faulty engine
Unfortunately if the ladder happens when you've tuned it you're shit out of luck but these are far and few between. 99% of them will live past 900 wheel easily as long as you actually maintain the damn thing and don't beat on it cold etc etc. The thing has alot of mod potential. It's stupid to leave them stock because you're afraid it's gonna blow up. Don't use one or two examples out of 1000s of examples as reasons to not mod a very moddable car. I agree I would have got a used one if I were planning to mod but either way it's not that big a deal. People have the wrong outlook on tuning as if it just always destroys engines or something.

I heard of this and will be doing a video too (ha, you beat me lol). There are a lot of issues that dont add up, like you said, why tune a car with no parts added. If they were removed, thats the kind of thing you can tell, especially on that kind of mileage. Also, what kind of tuner would do this prior to the break in period?
Also, Dodge's statement about emissions voiding warranties is illegal and violates Moss-Magnussen Act. It would be on Dodge to show that exaust mods, emissions mods were a direct resultant of the damage.
I am reluctant to call the owner, but he isnt a young dude. I dont want to get him in trouble with his attorney either, but I do think Dodge should have just fixed his car. This is massively bad for Dodge's image as a brand. This story is wild fire, and everyone heard of it (and by the time I get around to making my vid, I suspect other bigger channels will cover it).
Also, Dodge changed their story as well, initially calling it denied over the MMD, then changing to the ECU. Its messed up either way. Because its not clear cut, I would have warrantied it out. There are more details to this, but for everything that points to one direction, theres a piece that points in the other.

So, he had a 2023 Widebody Redeye (a car I’d have given my left nut to have ordered brand new to my specs by wasn’t able to pay the 50k markup most dealers wanted), 807 horses from the factory, if he had wanted a faster car, the Super Stock would have been the way to go if the Demon 170 was out of his reach, but he went for the Redeye, and now Dodge offers kits that bump horsepower while keeping the factory warranty when installed by an authorized dealer for those that consider that 807Hp isn’t enough (it’s more than enough for the factory P-Zeros), but the owner went his own way, and I think that Dodge is doing the right thing by voiding the warranty.

I love this.... the ECU sees all.... the dealership knows exactly how why where and when!!!! Nobody buys these cars to do anything but abuse....! Some just abuse more than others....! Just ask any Dealer tech with 20 plus years experience....abuse abuse abuse... and all customers lie....!! All customers.... all customers!!!

I have a 2018 ZL1/1LE with a month and half left on the powertrain, one of my 02 sensors just flashed a code, My battery is weak also, I'm putting a new battery on tomorrow, but I'm riding the warranty till its all over, then a cam, etc. One thing I would check, he might have 2 valve's spring broken that's not closings and not building pressure.

2013 RT at around 8K the transmission was causing a surging feeling and tach jumping like it was trying to find gears. Just driving in the streets. Dealership updated software and said I put cheap gas in which wasn’t true. Three times in they diagnosed the transmission body valve. Under warranty it took over two month and returned it to me covered in bird poop and a gouge in the paint on the front end but denied it. One month later I traded it in for a 4Runner and never looked back. I get calls to come buy another Dodge. I said you mean come to your lemonade stand?

This is why Dodge recommends Dodge Power Brokers, they are factory performance upgrades done at specific Dodge dealers without having to being denied warranty claims. These can be found on Dodge website directly.

If youre going to tune, make sure you buy a 2nd PCM to put the tune on, because PCMs log how many times they were tuned.

But then when switching back to the factory ecm it wont match the mileage of the vehicle. No way around it except not doing it

    • @KoryBrooks
      @KoryBrooks Год назад

@@quicksilver8180 Oh yes, But luckily you can write the mileage with a capable scan tool and its not logged in the PCM when doing so. The VIN is logged by displaying the original VIN, but this is not the case with odometer. If you can afford to modify your vehicle, you should afford to buy a capable bi directional scan tool.

tune equals voided powertrain warranty. old news. OEMs caught onto this a long time ago. tuning is an art form. all the best parts mean nothing with a hack tune. this is why my zl1 is still stock 3 years later. i dont feel like paying for a trans or motor. heres some advice. dont modify your daily driver or a vehicle you cant afford to repair lol.

Less than 1k miles check engine light illuminated. The control for air fuel mixter. Too much petro into cylinder 8. Washed lubricant out of cylinder. Scared cylinder wall. Engine replaced @1,200 miles. Car at dealship for 37 days. Near the end of the process. I talked to some manager assistant manager at the dealership. If you'll give me something similar to drive. You can keep the car long as you need to. At that moment I was driving a Nissan pickup truck from Enterprise.

My local Ford dealer is awesome.
They basically expect every Mustang and F150 to be modified and are real good about it. Their own words.
Ive had every one of my F150 lifted and tuned from Day 1 and on one them when the truck was completely covered in mud and the transmission blew up....zero questioned asked. New transmission under warranty. Lol
Lots of tunes do not leave a marker in the PCM when tuned so when it goes back to stock you cant tell.

My 21 trx with 16k fully modded. No issues for 8k with the setup. Had a major misfire and found driver side cat came apart and plugged exhaust. Dodge replaced the cat under warranty but it toasted the motor and they are refusing to warranty the motor. Claims there is no way the exhaust being plugged will cause cylinder failure.

Could it be that he used an aftermarket tuner to chech dtcs after removing the mid mufflers? if so the aftermarket tuner would have unlocked the ecm even if no tuning adjustments were made thus sending the p1400 code to the bcm indicatting tampering. Even though removing the mid mufflers does not affect the emissions all 50 states have laws against their removal.
