Decided to reupload this as I wanted to fix a few things and make some pacing changes. Most people won't notice much of a difference if you watched the original though.
You may have forgotten that nightmare also has that last round "clown area" which is really challenging. Anything can happen at anytime and no amount of preparation can stop it. I got some of my most fun runs just because of that section alone.

Oh also there’s an even more boring holdout spot on Barmwich town-if you unlock the secret weapon room and camp in it, then it basically becomes impossible to lose. Zeds don’t spawn in the room, and there’s only one small door so they have to come at you one at a time.
Yeah, I know about that spot lol...it's only fun if you're the zerker or firebug blocking the door.
@@Jmod8 yep… demo gets some fun sometimes if you like getting multi-kills, but anyone else just gets to sit around twiddling their thumbs.
Nether hold have one of such secret room as well. Once you unlocked it and have some good firebug and demo, you can beat it easily.
I feel like the maps fall into 4 categories;
Super easy holds like prison tower, sanitarium stairs, farmhouse, possibly even containment station. where theres 1 big choke (and maybe 1 other lighter lane/vent spawn) to watch and because the zeds get funnelled so heavily zerk walls and AoE just makes them a snoozefest.
Then you have maps that are too open maps with easy kite routes like nuked, spillway, elysium. Where because kiting is so safe they become very easy for the opposite reason as you just run around and nothing behind you can touch you because you can outrun all the attack animations (apart from FP's) so you just run around, combined with infinite heals you sorta just slowly win through attrition. I think this gets boring because stuff just dies so much slower and the game drags out.
We have some maps that are balanced, theres a few areas with maybe 2-3 entrances so you dont have to hold the same place every time its not miserable to play, kiting can work but its a bit more limited. This would be Lockdown, Desolation, Outpost, steam fortress etc.
Finally you have maps that are unfun for multiple reasons, be they repetitive because they only have 1 viable hold spot, be they miserable because they have no viable hold spots, loads of clutter both literally blocking you but also visually making you go crazy.
I think most holdout maps fall into this category, same with obj mode, then maps like Catacombs and Netherhold fall here.
Aesthetically, i like the modern and slightly futury maps, think outpost, nuked, hostile grounds, evacuation point, desolation etc. I just think they fit the game better
I dont hate maps having a theme and matching zeds for them though, like tragic kingdom with the circus zeds works because its consistent. But some are just way too surreal or weird and the players/zeds look out of place like on elysium or sanitarium.
Getting back into the game after taking a break for a couple years, I've found myself watching videos like this more to remind myself what's new to me and what's not. It's nice to see people still taking KF2 kinda seriously even if the devs don't. Funny to see you put the classic three early access launch maps towards the top, I keep thinking all these years later that those three managed to do *something* to make them so replayable and likeable that like 70-80% of the rest of the maps just couldn't and I could never put my finger on it. Promise it isn't nostalgia and I'm so glad I'm not crazy.

Thanks, and yeah the original maps had more heart and soul to them to me. They are definitely more thought out at least when it comes to the general layout and feel to how they play, that and they are actually grounded in reality so they feel as if they belong in universe. The early maps kind of had to be good for the game to be somewhat successful. And it's not like with later maps where they seem to try to focus on the aesthetics or general theme, but more so the focus being the layout, which is what makes them so replayable.
It was kind of similar to how Killing Floor 1 maps were, the first maps in that game were definitely some of the best ones.

Catacombs is LIT! The more you play it the more fun it becomes. I used to loathe it and now I choose it with my group if I kill the boss in the precious rounds, that’s our rules lol. It’s really easy to play by yourself and with a whole squad. And I’ll play as any perk (besides berserker because I never play as that) and if you have a strategy it’s easily winnable. Not in a boring, camping way though. You go through the maze of it and hold out in certain spots until you need to push. We usually plan it based on where the next trader will be. I’m in a KF2 group and we religiously choose that level.
The absolute worst map imo is subduction. It is pure trash for any perk. I cannot stand it and I’ll quit immediately if I’m playing in a random public lobby lol. I wish I could play some of the PC maps, but I’m on PS5.

Bro I don’t know if you still check your comments but you aren’t honestly a great content creator. If you play killing floor 3 as much as you played this you should make more videos. Sadly this game didn’t get popular enough to really make any content creator big but I can tell how much effort you put into these vids. Keep going man and use that effort in everything you do.

Can't believe black forest isn't D-tier. Hellmark is top 1 for me. Great hold out that isn't cheesy (well except for the one upstairs which blocks big zeds). Good for kiting when the team gets pushed. Some choke-points that could end runs abruptly. Great cover for boss waves. All perks could work in that map. Everyone can have fun. Decent list.
I love Black Forest! The ambiance is spooky, it’s spread out, and the sounds of walking in the water make me chuckle 😂
Spillway and Monster Ball are the only two maps that visually make me want to buy this game (late I know) and maybe the airship ones. But the rest look kind of terrible visually to the point where I hesitate to buy the game still 😂

Spillway is SUPER FUN! I’ve been playing since killing floor 1 and KF2 is pretty awesome. Some of the maps he didn’t like shocked me, like Catacombs, Shopping Spree, and the Descent. They’re super fun. I got KF2 for $30 and it’s the only game I play besides borderlands and Hogwarts legacy. I’d highly recommend buying it even though the third game is coming out soon. It’s very fun

What do you think of netherhold personally I think the map is just weird
I don’t like it. Even with a group it’s dysfunctional. And if you get the matriarch as your boss just consider it a loss 😂

As soon as you get better at KF2 you stop playing official maps. I have 8.000 hours in KF2 and honestly I can't remember last time i played any official map. If you play with coordinated team that actually isn't braindead all of the official maps get very easy even on CD. But on topic of official maps, Spillway & Nuked are most popular maps without a question. Preferences are person to person
i know everyone has different opinions and yours are very different from mine, but netherhold is easily the worst map in the game
