My husband is Samoan and I’ll never forget when we were watching Moana in the theater. I look over at him as they’re singing “We Know the Way.” He had tears streaming down his face. I asked him later why he was so emotional and he told me that was the first time he had ever heard his people singing in his language on the big screen. That’s when I learned that representation matters. I love how in recent years Disney has hired people to portray their own cultures in movies. I hope Disney will one day show this care to the Tiki Room, and redo some of the stereotypical portrayals of the Polynesian people. “Me #1 kite flyer.” 🤔 Disney can do better! ❤
I cried during that song too! And during other times of the movie too, but that one hit the hardest. I’m not Polynesian, but I’ve been living in Hawaii since I was 8 and I was just so happy to see representation of the people and culture I’ve grown up with.
Actually the flowering plants that should lower on Tangaroa have been non functional for some time. It's very upsetting 😭😭😭😭
It is upsetting! This is an excellent pre-show when it works. But, remember "Barker Bird?"
Out of topic, just wanted to say thank you for the message of not giving up, I was on the very edge of giving myself up when I saw your video and hearing the advice without expecting it actually moved something inside my head and made me rethink things. It helped me a lot. TK.
I hope you know how amazing you are. You are wonderful. Please know this. 💙💚💙💚
Hang in there Francisco, pls know that so many of us have been there. Things do get better, guaranteed. There are many reasons we all matter, though it might not be clear to us in the moment. Chris is just so super right.
Chris,
I appreciate all the you show us from Disneyland. As a kid my dad would take me to The Tiki Room first I just loved it. There was a bench made out of wood just to the right of the sign as you enter Adventureland.
Like I understand I'm not alone in this but I'm personally going through a lot right now. So, watching your awesome and wonderful videos "WHAT" with your addition of inspirational words truly help me out I'm ever so grateful...!
I love the tiki room.
I know the entire show by heart and whenever i see the show i repeat the entire show.
My favorite tiki god is pele
I absolutely love The Tiki Room. It's such a time capsule and I hope to god they don't do anything other than maintenance to it. I grew up on the disney channel and older disney so when they'd have specials about disneyland it wasn't the current disneyland it was when Walt was going around talking about it or whatever from the past. So hearing the old recordings and just seeing it as it was is so nostalgic for me. I wish more of disney would embrace it's past instead of paving it over for whatever the next big CG flop is.
great place to sit for a few minutes after a long day of walking.
We love the Tiki room! We have the collector Tiki room ears.. so awesome! Best way to watch the show is while eating Disney's famous Dole Whip!
Your positive messages mean so much to me!
Just took my mom last week, she hasn't been since she was 7, in 1955. She is 74 now and absolutely loved the Tiki room. Taking her next year to WDW.
Not only is the tiki room a great show, it is a great place on a hot day to escape the heat for a little bit. Great review Chris!!
Thank goodness they let us bring in a dole whip!
We spend summers in Hawaii and my 7 year olds obsessed with parrots. I think this will be her favorite attraction in the whole park when we come in a few months
I love the Enchanted Tiki Room, my favorite attraction at Disney for sure. Always excited to learn new things about it.
There is a CD box set that is called "A Musical History of Disneyland" which has the garden show with the voices and sound effects. It is a great history of the park, including Progressland, several versions of the rides and attractions. It even has the original Barker BIrd that sits on the entrance to Adventureland from Main Street. There are actually two, box sets and the other one is yellow, but I do not remember the details of what is on it. They do carry it on Amazon, and they do carry the two as a collection. If you want to enhance your trivia with some more fun stuff, you should get a copy of both. :)
We want a Tiki Room in Disneyland paris !! :)
And once again the Amazing Chris Provost does a video of one of my favorites...this all the while I am sitting on my lanai having a cup of coffee enjoying the rain in Hawaii!
So my family and I went to DL alot as a kid and my mom and dad loved the Tiki Room and i was a little boy..I loved running to each god as they got their turn to speak. I am 68 and I still love the Tiki Room and the outside garden is just awesome to me. I hope they fix those non working Tikis soon...it's disapointing to see things not kept up
Thank you again Chris for being your awesome self
Don't forget the bathrooms!!!
I mean, don't forget the closets with toilets and sinks crammed in them!
😉🤣
Only attraction the the porcelain God Loo! LOL!
You pronounce "Pele (pay-lay)" perfectly, Chris. You are Magic. All us islanders appreciate your care and respect. Aloha Nui No, Kakou!
Thanks Chris.
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room has long been special to me, as it was my mother's favorite. Don't know if you remember my telling you about that at your PPP panel.
Mother would always instead on seeing it, and over time, I came to love it. One thing though, the park seems to not give the Tiki Room much interest, as because they do not repair or monitor it, because they do allow features in the Tiki Room to not be repaired when they stop working.
But still brings a joy to ones heart. Also a great place to cool off on a hot day.
Thanks
The Tiki Room was one of my grandma’s clear faves when back in the 60’s & 70’s she took me once a year. (She also loved the Carousel of Progress, I have to get over to WDW one day while it’s still there!) I always think of her when we go - and that’s every time we go 😉 I love having her memory around me on every trip to DL, even these many years later.
@@lcflngn
Oh yes!!! Carassel of Progress was such fun when I was a kid (a hundred years ago). I have always thought, sense they don't know what to do with that building, they ought to bring the Carassel of Progress back, as an idea of reverse tomorrow land of where things have been. Don't we all tell our kids "when I was your age" and wax on about how things use to be, like how we used a rotary telephone for instance. Hey Disney, are you listening?
@@lamartya.4042 That’s a great idea, would love to see that!
That is my favorite area at Disneyland!!! I love the music and enjoy the dialogue of the Tiki's. Plus you can sit and enjoy a Dole Whip...delicious!!!
I love this show, it never gets old.
Oops, almost forgot to Like. I'm a So Cal local, but it's been so long since I've been Tiki'ing or Disney'ing! Thank you for showing me, all of us, what we're missing. It's a nice piece of happy.
Also Thurl Ravenscroft was uncredited singing voice for " you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch and the M.C for the Laguna beach art festival Pageant of the Masters for many many years( at ever show he would do Tony The Tiger). And it's not there anymore, but there used to be a carved tiki mask of Malificent outside the tiki room with the others. It was my favorite one.
They really need to fix the effects that have been not working. Some, for a very long time. I love this part of the Tiki Room and I always have ever since I was a kid.
Thank you Chris! 👍👍👍
Nice video, Chris. I miss the barker bird out front voiced by Wally Boag, the co-writer of the tiki show along with Marty Sklar. This attraction is historical in that it is the world’s first audio-animatronic show. When it first opened big crowds would gather outside under the talking bird because no one had seen anything like it!
I love getting my Dole Whip and going in and enjoying the show.😅
The tiki room was the very first attraction that I attended at Disneyland and I was a little boy and I was amazed I was in ah
There was a restaurant right next to the Tiki Room. It was Hawaiian thyme and put on a show with Hula dancers, it was so nice. It was where they are serving Dole Whips now. I wish they would bring it back.
Love u sm Chris thank you for always making me smile and feel valued 💗🥺
Love this vlog so much! While I was working on another project at WDI, It got around that I was an equity performer so they asked me to come the the studio and voice one of the lead voices for the new Tiki Room overlay for Tokyo. Even though it was too be soon replaced my Japanese voice over talent , I also ended up recording some of the background parts that still remained in the current attraction. It was such a thrill to get to be a permanent part of the TDR experience!
My kids loved this, thank you! Pro tip on the dole whip - float is the BEST. My 5 yo son now requests videos from “dada’s friend” :)
Hi chris, thanks a lot for your kind words, i really appreciate it. I send you a big hugh, keep up the good work!
As a bit of clarification: Thurl Ravenscroft is referred to as "the voice in the Haunted Mansion." His voice is featured prominently as the lead singing bust in the graveyard (the one who sings "Now don't close your eyes and don't try to hide...."). However, as I am sure Chris knows, the voice of the Ghost Host was the equally legendary Paul Frees, who can also be heard narrating "Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln" and at several points in "Pirates of the Caribbean" (and who was the scientist/narrator of "Adventure Through Inner Space" back in the day). (For Haunted Mansion Holiday, Frees voice was replicated with uncanny accuracy by Corey Burton.)
While Ravenscroft does provide the voice of Tangaroa (and also the voice of the German-accented parrot Fritz in the actual Tiki Room show), I don't think he voices the other tiki gods, or not all of them. I could be wrong on that, though.
You probably know - but Paul Frees was the burgermeister and Inspector Fenwick. Love him!!
@@laurag9203 And Boris Badenov and the Pillsbury Dough Boy!
Oh yeah, and many many more. I was just mentioning his prominent Disneyland voices. ("No fear have ye of evil curses, says you? Arrr...properly warned ye be, says I....")
@@arnequis inspector fenwick, Dudley do rights chief and crusty the hermit crab 🐚, Mr Limpet the dolphin 🐬 s bestie! Paul also narrates the Dudley shorts
Love the Tiki Room I use to listen to it on my old record player all the time the sad part is they've shortened the show quite a bit. I've noticed that Disney has quite a few things in none working condition of late.
Yeah! It was to bad some of the effect didn't work. I lovvvve that pre-show. It's sooooo Walt! Always giving us so extra.
you forgot the barker bird (Wally Borg) that would call people over to buy tickets
I always wanted to see what all the tikis did and said but no one wanted to wait and watch with me. Thanks for doing it for me.
Chris, you are hilarious! A-lo-ha! Good one!
I’m from Hawaii. Just to clarify these tikis represent gods and goddess from around the Polynesian Islands. Your pronunciation of the Hawaiian ones was great.
Mahalo Nui Loa for your excellent content in this video. To know that some of the sculptures were carved with a plastic spoon is epic. This area has always been one of my favorites. It’s kitschy in a good way. 🤙
Thank you, love the Tiki Room!
Not me crying at your message 😭😭😭 I needed that today ❤
Many years ago during the ticket book days you were not allowed to bring food into the tiki room. You could eat it outside but there was a cast member at the entrance that made sure you threw it in the trash before entering.
"A low ha." Lol!
I love your jokes, I laugh every time
Thank you for posting this I didn't stop by last time I was in the park . This is so cool seeing where the got Maui in the Movie Moana.
Chris? YOU are the one who's truly amazing. You, Amanda & Miles are all wonderful. I truly enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the wonderful work you do. Love you guys. The Enchanted Tiki Room is 1 of my all time favorite attractions. You forgot to mention that it's the only Disneyland attraction with restrooms since it was originally intended to be a restaurant. You're truly awesome Chris.
Shhh, don’t tell everyone about the restrooms! Lol, just kidding, gotta share the good info with PPP folk!
😉
I think I have watched Regis video 20 times already , I love the pre show!!!😊
A Low Ha......LOL
I was doing homework and had this video playing and when he mentioned the cops, I stopped what I was doing and I looked up quickly and when Chris said the joke, I just rolled my eyes and started to laugh!! xD
Was there in April with my bestie and her husband. We needed a break from the heat and to get off our feet, so husband suggested Tiki Room. Bestie and I had never done it, and we’re just blown away by how much fun it was! Going back week after next and I can wait to show my husband the Tikitikitikitiki Tiki Room!
Love this! Your videos are so positive and fun 😁
Thank you! I have been hoping someone besides me enjoy the pre show tikis!
Great video!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you.
I’ve never heard is pronounced Skylar I’ve always heard everyone say Marty Sku-lar. Also like others have pointed out, Disney Legend Paul Frees is the Ghost host. Thurl is one of the singing tombstones and he used to be the voice of the Disneyland Railroad, I was very sad when they changed it.
Thank you Chris.
love your positivity 💓
I went with my parents to the tiki room for the first time when I was five. I still love going in there to this day (42) so I think there's a great chance Miles will still love it when he's older.
I'm a genuinely happy person and I love my life. I'm grateful every day for all that I have and all I've been provided, none of which I deserve. Still, when you tell me I matter and that I'm awesome, thank you. You matter and you are awesome as well. Keep up the great work and keep your light shining. Hope to say hello one day in the parks, but for now, I look forward to future posts. I wish you all the very best.
Thank you 💙💚
7:30 Ok, now I wanna hear Dwayne Johnson redub this Maui!
My sister and I love 💕 the Tiki Room. Now being older it's just as fun to be apart of the experience.
I've ALWAYS LOVED The TIKI Room. As a kid I renamed the Tiki. I couldn't read so I gave them names.
A low ha.... Love it! Keep em' coming!!
Hey Chris, I love your content and your positivity! I really love all the information you were sharing! The only thing that I would correct would be the comment about getaway today being the cheapest option. It’s not, I have found other places that actually sell the tickets cheaper. Get away today. Will definitely price match but not the cheapest. A better phrase would be a getaway. Today is a great option. It’s a great company and they do great things and they have great prices, but it’s not the cheapest. If you would like, I’d be happy to send you a different company who actually has cheaper prices that is located in Southern California right by Disneyland.
Love the video Chris!
Chris, thanks so much for doing this video! I never knew there was a show right before you go inside the tiki room, so interesting. The sound effects of the rain inside sounds very realistic. I plan to see this again on my next Disneyland vacation. Your extensive research on all this Disney history has been keeping me so busy! Those Disney legends you mentioned such as Rolly Crump, Blaine Gibson, and John Hench were such incredible pieces to the Disney legacy. I'm planning to take a Disneyland vacation at the end of January for the 100th Anniversary of The Walt Disney Company.
Awesome!
Lol Chris’s pronunciations 😂 Pele should have been featured in burning down the mouse
As Ludovic said, DoleWhip reminds him of VACATION…🥰🥰🥰
On Saturday you could only mobile order at that stand. They must change it sometimes.
The water element on Maui serves as a type of scarecrow. When the hollow bamboo reed fills it tips over from the weight and the sound it makes when it hits is designed to frighten any bird which may feeding on the plants.
Still love those puns. I'm 47 and still love the tiki room, I remember back before they had the dole whips you could only get the pineapple juice but that was back in the 80's. You and your family are awesome you guys are so positive.
You’re an awesome 😎 youtube channel.
I've only ever been to wdw but I watch A LOT of Disneyland videos on RUclips and can't wait for my visit there at some point! I can't wait to see the differences between the two! I love watching you and your wife Amanda on here. Your videos bring me so much joy and remember that you both are special too!
Brandy,
I think you will love your visit. You talk about your visit in single person. I hope you are not coming alone. Disneyland is always so much more special when shared with someone to laugh with, and enjoy with.
@@lamartya.4042 Nope, definitely not coming alone! It would be me and my husband
@@brandymalinovski3212
So very glad to hear that. Enjoy your stay
I watch the complete show!!
a lo hah. oy! 😁
i like your video😁
Love the Tiki Room..... First time I went was 1975 as a 13 year old and I was mesmerized by the show. Every time I go I can picture Walt sitting in the back row enjoying a Dole Whip loving every minute of the show.... So to me this is one of the best attractions at DL....
PPP I love you and your channel! But Go Phillies! Your Gotta believe!!!!
Ok, so I should watch your video till the end before I ask if you experience that "Pre show"! I do think that at night time it does look much better.
Great Video Chris but you need to say like at the beginning of the video not the end as people may not get to the end
I tried to order Dole Whip at the window without the app (45 minute wait) but they don’t take walk up orders. The only window service is at the Tropical Hideaway.
Will you be posting a Disneyland magic band video? I have so many questions lol
great
I've seen that show a bunch of times and I'm still not sure how all the names are pronounced either. Guess I need to keep watching it. 😁
Chris there was no Rongo way to pronounce these Hawaiian tongue tWiStErS. Walt really knew how to "plus" a show. The pre-show for this is incredible. I even had Tiki torches in my backyard for a while + a "sky chair". I met Marty in 2009 + Blaine Gibson. Always been my dream to meet/talk to Rolly. He had a great story about one of the Gods he sculpted. The A/C in Tiki Room is some of the coldest. It had to be to keep the computer cool that ran the show.
I spent about an half an hour at the front of the Tiki Room (2019) the sound track story for each god is realy good. Did you experience that "Pre show"?
I appreciate your uplifting messages but we are not all miserable and/or suicidal. Life is good.
These gods pronounce their own names during the preshow.
Omg when were you there? We were there yesterday, and we got engaged
So basically in typical Disney theme park fashion, Everything Is Broken?!?
The cute girl in the thumbnail is Disney veteran icon Ginny Tyler of Gumby fame
A Low Ha!
Aloha 🌺😂
Chris can you do a video with David from Fresh Baked?
Does Getaway Today charge extra for using their services?
No
8:51 Is that Phil Harris?
No…doesn’t sound like him and anyway this was pre-Phil
@@SteveCarras I was just curious because I didn’t know if it was.
Marty Sklar not skyler
Thank you. 💙💚
U said sklar wrong
skylar LUL You really do have trouble with God's names. haha
The tiki Maui the shooting water looks like it's peeing 😂
Did Chris say moist?
First one here! ❤
