The only reason that version existed was to help Disney promote its then-new Renaissance-era movies, including Aladdin and The Lion King. It was also intended to help the show stay relevant, as the original show likely wasn’t drawing in as much of an audience as it was in 1971.
If Disney were smart they would keep some rides as being vintage in their original condition and I believe the tiki room should be one of them. And they should bring back that Voyage Through Inner Space and pick up Carousel of Progress in Florida and move it back to its original place in California. Because they have no movies attached to these creative rides I'm sure they won't be bringing them back unfortunately

i keep imagining this as an animated production in my head where they're all human and Michael is the glee club leader/conductor (and Jose is his closest friend) and michael takes his position with a lot of responsibility and hes rlly proper n neat because this is really all he has. and then pierre is the romantic and when the ladies come out he dances with them n hes actually p nice. Fritz is the funloving silly one and he just goofs around with anyone :P When the god's music takes over, michael loses control over his conductor wand and starts panicking which worries the others. No matter how much he tries to control it, the wand is possessed by the gods' magic (which is why the choir starts singing their melody as well). He realizes that there's no way he's gonna get it to work for him in the little time they have left, and he abruptly gets up and starts frantically unlatching the bird cages, trying to free as many birds as possible. Jose soon follows and fritz and pierre start excavating people. the music grows and almost everyone is out the door but michael (and jose, who is holding the door). Micheal is trying to make sure everyone is out because he feels responsible, but jose grabs him by the arm and pulls him out at the last second. Shortly after, the tiki room collapses and there is thunder and rain. Michael is pretty broken, but now that the wand is no longer possessed, he can use it to help build things back to normal with the power of the tiki room, which lies in its music. artists will understand making up animated videos in their head lmao

As a Hispanic person who spent their entire life in Hawaii and has European relatives, the awful stereotypes and inaccuracies (ESSPECIALY THE GODS!! Omg those are SO BAD!) will never not be absolutely hilarious. My cousin calls this the "Tiki Tiki Racist Room" so.... yeah. Definitely an amazing attraction with great songs.... just a little culturaly unfortunate 😅
I would like to say that I LOVE this show. I love seeing it every time I go. It's just hilarious to me how amazing the tech was at the time, but the cultural stuff is all super... interesting to say the least.
As a person living in the 21st century, listening to this soundtrack I hear a terribly pastiche of racial and national caricatures that makes me wince a little bit. But as a child of the 50's and 60's, this soundtrack brings back such wonderful memories of the magic of the Tiki Room and my childhood enjoyment of the performance, especially once the singing starts. Marvelous stuff!
They're all national stereotypes. The only one people think is offensive is the only typically nonwhite one. But the accent is no more exaggerated than thd other birds.
It's like when people say Apu from the Simpsons is racist when homer is the steroetypical obese and incompetent american. Every character in this and the Simpsons are intetionally exaggerated stereotypes and that's why they are entertaining.
@@jasonbaylor9865 Entertaining to who? Certainly not to those who are being stereotyped. The Simpsons broad humor is based on poking fun at human foibles -- Homer is lazy and unthinking, Chief Wiggum is inept, Marge is a Type-A personality, Mayor Quimby is a stereotype of self-serving politicians everywhere. Apu is a bit of an outlier in that the "joke" is he represents all Indian convenience store owners. No matter how sympathetic his role is written, it's still a racial stereotype. Perhaps that's why Hank Azaria has said he will no longer voice the character. When Disney designed the Tiki Room, white Americans were largely his only audience, and it was still "ok" to make fun of the characteristics of certain ethnic groups. Similarly, the Disney movie "Song of the South", authored in the same period, was entertaining to Disney's audience at the time, but is widely considered to be racially insensitive today, due to its depiction of Jim-Crow-era rural blacks. Disney is not afraid of re-thinking its attractions -- note the recent revamp of Pirates of the Caribbean to redress outdated stereotypes of female victimization. Surely it would be much less expensive to re-voice the Tiki Room, so that the *jokes* are the entertainment, not the accents with which they're delivered.
@@sfperalta I'm sorry but you are incorrect. Every character in the Simpsons is a steroetype. Groundskeeper Willie is stereotype Scottish who wears a kilt and works as a janitor. Agreed the Under New Management one was awful.
