Sorry to hear that Mad. We have been bitten by the same things more than once that's where we got the idea for the home made offset gauge. Because brake packages or suspensions can be different from the stock, wheels can be funky offsets; at least now you can go on line and shop the sizes. That's why we recommend doing this first before making your wheel purchase. that way you'll know. We just wish we'dda got here sooner to help you out!

You guys do an awesome job. I stumbled across you when I was trying to work out how to adjust the passenger window in my 67 Mustang - you had a segment on installing windows. Thanks! I think it's tough to commercialize stuff like this - you do it for love in the long run. BTW, I've made actual cross sections blanks so I can bolt a plywood form to the rotor and swing it around and check for turning circle. I change the offset by using a bolt pattern in a row that allows in and out.

Jesse, color is tough. What we will say is this: A daily driver is better suited to light colors that don't show dirt. And the Nightmist Blue (a factory 1967 color) or 1968 Presidential Blue is a nightmare to keep clean. Even in the shop we have to wipe the car down before each episode it is in. So choose carefully. We like the newer Mustang colors; Windveil Blue Clearcoat Metallic ('05) is close enough to Brittany Blue that nobody will whine.

Tire manufactures are whittling down what they carry to be sure. We know the lads over at BF Goodrich pretty well and were told a year or so ago that slow movers (nonstandard) sizes were being reduced and eliminated. So some times compromises must be made.

Wilwood upgrade kits add 3/4's of an inch offset, wish I had of known that before I spent huge dollars on those Foose wheels which only just fitted prior to the brake kit arriving... Moral of the story - plan it out, buy once...
Rims are 17x7 Rocket Racing Boosters. Back spacing is 4.25. We are running the 9-inch with 3.77 rear gears and a Detroit True Trac.
What is the offset of this rim?

Hey Jeff, hope you are well. I have a question and yes, I followed the vid..still confused. I am looking at 15" or 17" wheels. I have a bone stock 66 Coupe I am restoring and found what I like but in BOTH cases, they recommend something but say this "For 1965-1966, 215/60-15 tires are recommended with 15x7” wheels but will require modifications for correct fit. " What are they talking about ? what would I need to modify ?
Backs space is -5mm...On the 17'sx7 front, 17x8 back they say similar - MY QUESTION ..I want to fill the wells, have wide tires like the 60's period but NOT have rub issues. Any basic numbers you throw at me will be heartfelt appreciated...LOL...Wish I could send you pics of the restore

I have a 67 convertible mustang. The frame is bent it's out of "square " about 1/2". Had an impact on the passenger torsion bar bracket.
Did you make a program regarding frame alignment or determining how to straighten a bent frame?

Nope. That is one I'd leave to the pros. You'd have to cut the car apart and that gets almost as expensive as having a pro shop do the deed.
Most tire manufactures recommend replacing tires after no more than 10 years, not 5. Good stuff though, thanks!

ugh i wish i understood what youre saying, im building a 77 mercury comet, equilivant to a ford maverick and i need all new rims & wheels , and i need to know what size to get i want to to get the meaty muscle look so i want fat tires in the back and skinny in the front, and idk what to do i need to order them ASAP because my comet is my daily driver and its sitting on stands right now with no wheels :(

I have a 1971 dodge challenger with 14 inch rims. I want to convert from drums to disc brakes. I was told I have to use at least a 15" disc. Do I have to change my existing rims and tires.
We discussed it with a Mopar friend and he said that with a single piston caliper (stock style post 1967 Mopar brakes) and stock wheels you'll need to go 15-inch rims.
Hey guys. On the DOT number info, that didn't start till 1990. 1980's and older tires do not have those numbers. Just FYI. 1990 was a big year in the automotive world as airbags and such were introduced. Good video other than that.
185x75x14 = tyre width 185 centermeter, the side wall is 75% of the width and it fits a 14 inch rim . Why metric/imperial ? I dunno just is :-) knowing that you can go 205x65x14 or 225x60x14 you can get almost any configuration if your willing to pay ,most brands stick to the popular sizes and it keeps the cost down
hey can i put a 18x9 or 18x10, or 17x9 on a stock ford maverick 1970. what be a good size tire to fits it
The problem with the Maverick is the wheel opening. We've tried putting huge tires on there and run into issues. Remember, you can plus size the rim and keep the tire the same rolling diameter as original on the '72 Maverick. The closest modern tire size we could find was the 195/60/14 (24.6-inch outside diameter). Then use a calculator like this one: www.wheelcalc.com/# to come up with a width. Make sire it will clear using the gauge we showed you how to make. Biggest wheel size for that rolling diameter seems to be 17-inch.

Building cars is an iterative process - you start and you've got an idea in mind of where you'd like to end up - but as you drive and use the car, you realise that 60's brakes don't cut it, 60's suspension is scary, and adding loads more horsepower makes both worse. So, you figure, these wheels, this motor, and then, holy shit! It's all learnings, and it beats learning the hard way - like suicide bombers that get it right the first time... LOL
