Finally a real photographer posting solid images with this lens. Thank you for this. I’ve been contemplating this lens but stayed away due to most Chinese lens rendering that glowing soft look wide open similar to the 75mm 1.25. Looks like they’ve solved that issue.
Hi Joe, I was thinking the same when I got the lens. So shocked when I shot at 0.95... I have a little giggle to myself. This lens should not be this good. Will try to get the 7Artisan 75mm f/1.25 to review.
any thoughts on ttartisan 50/0.95(which can be m-mount to rf mount adapted to eos-r) vs mitakon zhongyi speedmaster 50/0.95 (which has an rf version and simillar b&h star rating?)? vs venus laowa 50mm F0.95?
@@DarrylCarey hi, understand this is possible, however, I was thinking of buying a canon7 film camera and was curious if it could be adapted to that, thanks for replying though ;)
I'll keep an eye out for that, seems like a useful lens for my Canon M50, I'm usually a 50mm shooter on my film cameras but the apsc sensor of the M50 makes the 50s seem so long
Got mine today, absolutely loving it on my M240 ! It is actually easy to focus with a 0.68 rangefinder. Mine came in calibrated (as i hoped so). I love the character it has in nature shots. And yes, Anything between 2.0 and 5.6 is extremely Summicron-like.
Saw another first impressions video that had some complaints about the corner sharpness. Your copy looks better but hard to see unless you're shooting a flat wall or something and most of us won't care but did you have any thoughts on the corner sharpness?
Just got it today and gotta say I'm already in love with it, does have that feel of a premium lens that's much more than what it costs. Not disappointed one bit, cheers for getting the video out and letting others know Darryl! I got the black version!
FWIW I got the 7Artisans 0.95 50mm for special use: the bokeh is crazy and yeah, focusing wide open is critical. Did I say "critical?" In other words, difficult, even with two people's heads in almost the same plane. Was led to this post from Daryl's video on the 1.4 Voigtlander. Thanks for your contributions, Daryl. The size and weight of the Nokton is an issue, though I don't mind using the EVF on the M240. I have an M8 too so thanks for the tip re difficulty of lens release. Can you provide a link to your photos? I'm trying hard, amidst all the present difficulties, to get outdoors and shoot again, especially once our hot summer ends. And COVID done with here. Michael in Connecticut.
For weight and size I would go with the Voigtlander, but there is something very special about shooting at 0.95 😉 .. Both lenses are very sharp wide open
Thanks Darryl and I've just got this lens to try out on my M4 and M10R - one thing I think people would like to know is do you feel it best to select a lens profile (say a Noctilux 50mm f1) on the M camera's or just leave it to 'off'. If 'off' how do do you handle this in LR or C1? I'm also going to give it a go on my SL2 so looking forward to your review on the S1R to see how it compares to my SL50 F2 APO.
Hi Karim, not for a few months. Auckland has been in a lock down for 4 months and i want to spend a few weeks shooting with the lens again before I do the long term review
Hi, Darryl. Would you recommend this lens also for an apsc sensor camera, in my case a Fuji (in terms of image quality)? I can't afford a Leica, let alone a Summilux, hehe..
Thanks! The interview where they claimed they didn't copy because they didn't have ASPH capability is obsolete I guess. Good for them!... but they lost their excuse for the corners of this lens!
Hi Raymond, check out the dropbox link with some photos of the lens shot at 0.95 in the description. I think you will be surprised how good this lens is 😉
Darryl Carey Yup Canon rangefinder 7s. It has a special mount because of the lens size. People purchase them and have The mount converted to Leica M and sometimes they will also 6bit code the lens.
Very nice lens Darryl. I still want the Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 for that M-10 Monochrom I will be getting. I might not be able to afford it, but I am still lusting after it.
I have tested a 75mm f/1.25, so hard to focus on the M10😨... Would love to hear what you think of the M10 monochrom when you get one, still kicking myself I did not get one😭

You have a filter thread. So just screw in a nice black metal lens hood that costs about 10 dollar.
Very nice. Very interesting. I think that the colour images look nicer and that the vignetting is beneficial in this case. I'm sure that a shallow lens hood is no issue to add. Ebay is your friend ....
The photos are looking damn good, Darryl! Would be interesting to see the same photos taken with this lens and a real Noctilux. Personally I am not lusting for a lens as big as this. A few months ago I almost bought a f1.0 Noctilux. But when I hold it in my hands and felt the weight I thought about how beautiful my 50mm Summilux renders photos and how small it is compared to the Nocti. In the end it boils down to this: I am a Leica M mount shooter, and in my opinion a lens for a M10 or a M6 has to be rather small and light-ish. Therefore I decided not to buy a Noctilux or any other M mount lens that big. On a Leica SL or on a Pana S1 or S1R things look different. On such a big and hefty camera (with their focus assistance!), a Nocti or this 7Artisans lens could be really great.
Hi Alex, I thought the same when I first use the lens, but even after just an hour of shooting I started to really like the feel of the lens on the M10. Will test the lens on the S1R when I do the full review. For the price the TTArtisan is a nice lens to have even if its just to shoot something a little different sometimes.
Totally agree. I was in the same situation as you. In the end, I choose the summilux instead of the Noctilux. I believe in the case of 7artisans lens, may it be 75mm f1.25 or this 50mm f0.95, it is still affordable. One can still buy it to try and sell it if it doesn't suit them. I don't think one can easily afford to buy a Noctilux to "try".
Yes, that’s probably a good point! For the price of the TTArtisan lens one could buy it “just to try it out”. I assume there are very few people who would do this with a Noctilux😅. @Darryll - I am looking forward to your full review!
J P - I was referring to the 12bit raw video... being a video centric camera it’s doesn’t have 16bit stills just 14bit but gotta say it produces stunning stills as well 👍
Looks amazing for its price! I was looking at the Mitakon 50 0.95 which seems to be very soft and has a “glow”, this one looks much much better than they! Great review by the way 👍🏼
Whoa, those look great even at f.95. The 7artisan 1.1 looks like trash wide open, smeary and even soft at the focal point... It's such a massive lens though.
Look, I don’t know where you’re coming from, but based on those pictures showed in your video, I’m having a real problem seeing a quality likeness to a Summicron at f2. Not a chance. This lens (TTartisans) still got a pretty heavy vignetting at f4 by the looks of it and also based on the pictures that’s been showing up from other people made with this lens. The resolution is way of and it won’t even come close to match (any version of) the Leica Summicron. And you know; that’s fine. But if we’re suppose to be honest about it, let’s be honest. The lens also seems to have a pretty heavy distortion. Happy you’re happy with this lens, I also been looking into it as a special purpose lens. But after what I know from owning the f1.1 version (even thou it’s a different lens design) people doing youtube videos said the very same thing; OMG what a sharp and cheap lens. That lens was also a special purpose lens. I’m sure this one is technically better, but let’s not lock ourselves at the only selling point (0.95). For almost the same money as you can get the TTArtisans, you’ll can get the latest Nokton release from Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 second handed. That’s a more all rounded lens by far. It’s not f0.95 but pretty close and I bet you it’s way more useable at f1.2 then the TTArtisans. Then, if we can agree on that note (?) this lens might be an interesting special purpose lens for portraits or separating single objects with a blacked out background using the shallow depth of field (like some of your own shoots is a great example of) but their is far better lenses for around the same price points, that catches almost the same amount of light, but fits more pockets.
look like a ridiculous lens... and 0,95?! Must be difficult to get focus at that aperture though. Getting the 56mm f1.2 for my fuji xt4 - also great fast glass

It's not a copy of a Noctilux. They don't even use aspherical elements. I think you'll find the corners will show that.
It says ASPH on the front of the lens, and it actually uses double sided aspherical lens element if you look at the lens design diagram
