- The Cobra 200 GTL was a great idea and way ahead of its time. However the 200 has to be one of the worst radios put out by Cobra.
PROs... Nice front panel layout, Large Meter, AM Transmitter, 100w out., 2)2290s ! Dang!
CONs..Channel selector, 10kc sw not working, choppy receive, POOR adjacent rejection,,talk back on echo only (also TB cant be turned off in echo mode), faulty nightwatch, NB sucks in bleed over, SSB warbles with power up hi in 10m, freq counter not in if, Drifty SSB,
if you know of any more common issues let me know and I will list them.
BTW. The best part of this rig.... NO CHANNEL 9 SWITCH
Been servicing them since they came out and yes the revision 1 had alot of issues it was a basket case and most of them did not have the 2290 finals. The revision 2 is a little better but still suffered with low mic audio, bad adjacent channel rejection problems etc but those are easily fixed. The revision 3 is a great radio the low audio problem, bad channel rejection, usb warble etc issues have been fixed. The only bad issue they still have is the Night Watch panel still fails but tha'ts a common thing with all of the cobras with it. Alot of my customers have me put a switch on the radio to turn it off in the daytime just like i do all of my 148, 150 and 200 cobras. I use one of my nos revision 3 radios everyday and have heen told by several people that it has strong very clear audio.
These are beautiful, I always wanted one . But now if you find one in that shape ,, you could dang near by a Ranger or Galaxy with the built in amp ,, like you said they’re really eye candy , and also I’ve heard they have issues as you mentioned and sometimes are a nightmare to ever get right
Yes, they are "ok" when they work.
Not my favorite rig for sure.
Hey
.. that might be a subject for a video.
Rigs I have owned that suck!

Yes 👍 ,, we would enjoy that . I thought I had a few nice relics from the last 25 years , buddy you’ve pulled out a time capsule of goodies the last several videos!!
Used one in Phoenix Arizona 15 years ago or so, a few of my friends liked being able to talk on the sideband to limit who heard us. Great range on the desert floor. Times got tough, sold it to someone in Canada for $350 with shipping.
WOW! You got some good $ for that rig:)
I forgot, but my god at the amount of electrolytic capacitors on that board. Geez.
Also I heard the 10 kc switch were wired incorrectly to the pll section causing it to not work. I'd still love to have one of these radios to work out the bugs and make it usable. They came out for a short time in the 90's if I remember correct.
Nice radio. Would love to find one
Looking for parts for one of these.
I had the cobra 2000 thousand and I loved it. wished I had it today
Where can you get replacement parts for this radio
I have had many cobra's but have never seen this one . I guess they don't sell it today.
I Love It How Old Is It And What Did It Drain Your Pocket ?
Bless Up Fella
I sold a few and pulled this one for myself. If I remember correct, it was around $219 (usd) dealer cost.
All in all, every one of the 5 rigs I sold eventually came back for repairs or were sold off. Lets just say Cobra had 5 unhappy Customers.
@@390WagonMaster That's A Shame . That's The 1st Radio I've Seen With That Output Power
I've Seen People Hack In A 50 Watt Burner Into A 40 Channel Rig Before , Quite Funny Really
My Favourite Set Is A President Lincoln That Just Works And Works !
Anyway Buddy Thanks For The Info
Bless Up :)
Those look so 70s I'm surprised they don't have sideburns and bell bottoms 😂. I love the looks !! 😎. If I ever come across a good used one I will definitely buy it. Don't see many of them though
I just bought one for 150 will be hooking it up monday. It's prestine.
I hope you get much enjoyment from that rig. 73s
Como calibrar covra dosiengos
Whats the channel mod do on this radio?
How do I contact you for working on my 200
I don't work on radios. Try Radio Garage.
Big Buck radio it's too bad Dynascan never made the basic 148gtl from the Philippines like this with the Toshiba 2290s
S.R.W’s standing ratio waves
I have one in the box never used only looked at it uk model fm 10mtr
Its been a good decade or so since I have been in one of those rigs, I "think" there is a jumper on the main board in the center towards the front of the radio. I need to go into my notes to make sure. I will look ASAP..
Have you had the new ranger RCI x9
No I have not used a x9 yet. I do need to get a hold of one and check it out.
They are nothing more than a 959 board in it and still drifts like hell on ssb. Nothing fancy at all. Poor reviews on line.
What do you think of FM? Is it better or not?
If I remember correctly, the FM on this rig was not to bad.
@@390WagonMaster :-)
F.M. is popular in Europe not for the US
Man if you’re ever gonna sell this radio please let me know in the comments. I’ve been looking for one of these for a while now and I can not find one anywhere
I sold this radio many years ago. Good luck on your path to finding one. Great concept, terrible final product. IMHO
@@390WagonMaster yeah I heard that. There is an old trucker that lives by me who has one . He wants 300$ for it . He got it back in 2009 at a truck stop in Tennessee. Think I’m staying away. Just buy a 148 and run an amp
Still a nice little radio
Disconnect antenna During Lightning or you will have to replace the Driver Transistor
Internal adjustment pots were crappy, hard to set final bias, poor voltage regulation circuit for pll causing ssb warbling on tx. Easy fix though for warbling. Pretty radio but yes, poorly built.
Cobras biggest flop, what a shame.
I have two of these
Calibrar
Just got one for 30 dollar
