Looks to me the Stryker5k/ Wilson 5000 outperformed the Wilson 1000 by a fair bit. I went and bought the 1000 after hearing over and over how the 5000 just handles more power. Lol

That's just made for the operator to look at. The guts are cheap. It's basically a polished turd. The TUG-8 was much better sounding and better built by far. I have my tug-8 from the `60`s still. The golden turd is long gone. I traded it for a Turner +2 in pristine condition.

Great radio, I didn't have one like that. I had a Lafayette 12a, it was older and worse, it received signals worse. However, it was also the pinnacle of radio technology at the time. However, the modulation was much worse than in your radio. It was older technology and you could hear it. However, I liked the Lafayette 2A the most because it was very, very comfortable and had a volume potentiometer at the top of the housing, which greatly helped with portability, comfort and mechanical durability. It looked like an old Motorola. It was a very successful radio with 1.5 W input power, i.e. approximately 0.75 W output power without modulation. In fact, the transmitting range was only slightly worse than the 5W input power radio. Thanks to the potentiometer at the top, you could put the radio in your pants pocket, it was amazing, what a convenience. Unfortunately, they were expensive and few were produced. I don't own it. I have a Lafayette 3b but it's not the same, potentiometers and a channel knob on the front which are annoying, easy to damage and not convenient. Lafayette 2a was just very, very modern for its time, around 1972. The power supply is also 10 Ni-Cd cells. Like old motorolas.

Just for your information at least in south africa the royce 639 was sold with a standard royce mic that had a 5 pin to accommodate the volume on the microphone

The TRC 448 is a better radio, it has two VRs that control the audio, it is quite possibly the most powerful, and loudest radio that Radio Shack ever made, but it was discontinued so they are rare, I had two of them..... they put out just about 25 watts on sideband..... and over 18 Watts on am.

I got out my old meter just the other day . My nephew got a cb and I told him he needed it to be matched. He could figure out why is wasn't able to talk to people. When he drove up I saw his antenna. It was a cheap magnetic mount. That was less than a foot high. So I gave him one of my fire sticks.

Have you ever tried the black Wrinkle paint? I like using wrinkle paint. spray it on thick and hit with a heat gun comes out nice. That turned out really good. My old Royce 23 channel radio needs the paint like your meter has on it. Awesome job 390

Hi WagonMaster. Thats a nice swr meter. When I was young....(It sounds just like the beginning of a Supertramp song...) I had the Royce Model 2-098 Watt & Swr Meter 10 Watt-100 Watt and that was nice too. It had 2 pcs of large meters. Unfortunately I sold all that equipment when I was 20 years old.... must have had other things on my mind....
