Never seen a close up of the plain 7001.. Nice.. In the EU the Export version was more common. The 7001 Export is a Cybernet Chassis, with SWR Bridge and a faux frequency counter, covering 26-28 in 10Kc steps with a +/-5Kc switch and a Hygain V Beep. Super-Duper cool.

Yes, 8001 and 9001also. The 9001z isn't a precision series though, or at least I didn't see precision on the box. Where was your 7001 made? I know Midland tends to balance quality and price, so sometimes they're made in China, Taiwan, Thailand, etc., and some countries skimp a little on quality. The 9001z was made in Thailand. I did check my midland folders but as usual I seem to have everything BUT the one you're looking for. I'll be looking forward to what you see inside and on the main PCB. It'll settle the "It's made by Uniden/no it's not" discussions that pop-up every few years or so. Good video 👍 Please ignore any spelling errors (can't find my thick glasses)

Now, a helpful hint for anyone who is trying to get an oldster back on the air...
It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to work. That said...crystals change frequency, and crystal filters change frequency. This applies to the large filters commonly used in 70s-80s era AM/SSB radios and the little black 455 kHz ones found in many AM radios.
For the AM only radios, find out which transformer tweaks affect the AM receive and adjust them for the best receiver signal. For sideband, it gets more complicated.
Start by accurately setting the two sideband carrier oscillator frequencies. If this results in one sideband having a strong carrier while the other one has no carrier, the crystal filter has moved in frequency and you'll have to adjust the two carrier oscillator frequencies to compensate.
On my Siltronix 1011D, I had to do that. With the mike gain turned off, I adjusted the carrier frequencies so that the radio puts out a 100 mW carrier. This ensures that the carrier oscillator frequencies are in a position that prevents the filter from attenuating audio frequencies. Since the radio's power output is over 100 watts a 1/10 watt carrier is within the factory specifications.
Yes, it's cheating, but don't forget, we're resuscitating survivors that are well over 40 years old. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to work.

If a radio is generating a significant carrier on sideband, make sure that the carrier frequency crystal settings are correct, and if they are, then look at the carrier balance. There is a specification for the amount of carrier suppression, and it can be enough for a nearby station to hear it.

I think that meter was in an important scene on Oppenheimer.
Them ham shaped cb's are pretty tho, and the AWI is a great rough-in means of tuning the antenna, or sudden missing whip or short circuit warning. The Cobra 29LX LCD has a hammy look to it, but I'm crossing my fingers for a 39LX LCD with SSB and FM also. (just speculating)
