I think the Q3S was a great move from Meta. I was only putting my Q2 on maybe once a month anymore for the past year or so. It put me in a position where I wasn't using VR enough to justify the Q3 cost. Even at $499, it's still a bit much. I got the Q3S as a very early Xmas present and added the mid-tier BoBo strap (The one without the fan, just a battery) and now I don't want to take it off. The mixed AR is amazing. Sure it's not 1/1 with real vision, but coming from the Q2, it's not just a game changer, but a life changer. I spent 3 hour last night just trolling around the internet, just like any other night, but I was using Virtual DT in passthrough mode. I still had about 30 min of battery left as well. (That is with 2 batteries connected and only surfing RUclips and such.) I have to be honest, I'm more impressed with the Q3S than I thought I'd be. IDK if it's because I went with a better head strap or what, but it's way more comfy than the Q2 ever was. Thanks for the updates Steve.

The 128 GB quest 3S is selling like hotcakes. I understand some people saying to save up for the OG3 but for a lot of people especially people trying VR for the first time it’s not an issue of having to save for it. They just don’t want to spend that kind of money on something that they don’t know if they’re gonna like it or not.

So now your quest 3s is gonna collect dust. If you didn't play any games on quest 2 why would you now on quest 3s? I think it would be smart to play quest 2 with dust and save yourself 330 euro or 300 dollar. And buy games for quest 2 bahahaha

I pre-ordered the quest 3 the day it release I picked it up from Best Buy and I use it much more. It’s much more comfortable than the Quest 2 was, plus I use it for movies and browsing the web RUclips ect a lot more than I did my quest 2 because of the color pass through, comfort and better sound. I was so happy with the my Quest 3 when I first got it that I went out and spent $2300 on a PC to play PCVR. It’s something about all those little things together just makes the overall experience so much better.

Something that I've wanted forever now, and it wouldn't be that hard to implement, other than getting all of the cellphone manufacturers onboard.
Imagine just having a phone connect option within the headset. You go through a simple setup, maybe download an app on your phone, whatever. Then you just have a phone button within VR anywhere. In game, out of game. It's just part of the UI. You push this button and now you're holding a virtual phone in your hands like it was an in game object. Your phone screen is projected to this virtual device, so it's like you just have "your" phone in VR. Literally ALL of the functionality of your phone would be ported into this. You could simply use your finger to touch the virtual phone screen to open apps, make calls, whatever. Hold the virtual phone up to your ear and you can hear the phone call. This isn't that hard to implement. It would just take effort to get it up and running with all the different phones out there.

Super wide display and fov become incredibly easy to handle with Eye-tracking because everywhere you aren't looking just drops to super low resolution. Foveated eye tracked rendering is the future because you can more than double the performance if it's done right. The new headsets need - Thin, Pancake Lenses, Eye tracking, ultrawide Fov, etc. But I think the real future is where you have a dedicated console that streams to the headset. This gives the headset way less weight, far more battery life cause you're just doing screen/wifi almost no processing. Meta needs to partner with Xbox, and kick VR 15 years into the future.

My biggest problem is that I have to keep it tight to my face, which is not very comfortable. It feels like I'm wearing swimmers goggles. Too much pressure around my eyes. If the goal is to get everyone to transition into vr from phone...this is a great bridging of the gap

  • @b.s.7693

In terms of FOV: After a lot of headsets, I must admit super wide FOV headsets are not worth the efforts / the tradeoffs. Currently I'm rockin a PSVR2 and it's approx 120 degree horizontal FOV is near the sweetspot. With this FOV I don't feel constricted for the most part and I forget about it very quick. If we one day hit a clean, distorsion-free like 140° FOV in a slim headset, I'm satisfied.

Achieving human field of view (FOV) and varifocal focus in consumer VR headsets is the most important milestone. Only when these two features are realized in a slim, compact form factor can we truly say that VR has reached its full potential.

To me its still too close to feeling like wearing a helmet with a screen on it looking through a cylinder. I rarely get the immersion feeling, feels more like a more advanced Wii with the screen strapped to your face. I have a quest 3 and its fine. Id only ever consider upgrading if they came out with something more like the Big Screen VR

    • @Wooskii1
      @Wooskii1 16 дней назад

@@naruhearts1 I totally agree. As much as I like the lenses on the Quest 3, they just aren't enough for it to feel like a true "next gen" experience, not without adding enough FoV to relieve that "looking through a tube/ helmet/ binoculars" feeling. That's the main reason I didn't run out and buy a Quest 3 immediately after trying it out...
I'm thinking that something around 130° (real world) FoV would be enough for me personally. I'd consider any future headsets with 140°+ as an instant "pass" in the FoV department, meaning I wouldn't care if the competing HMD had even higher FoV, as it would be down to other features at that point imo (like color, resolution, lenses, etc.).
I really hope the "next generation" of HMDs start pushing their FoV past the 120° mark, to bring the entire package up to the standards that are being set with other newer features like pancake lenses, OLED colors, and high pixel density.
(I would jump on a "Big Screen Beyond 2" extremely fast, even at twice the price, if it was almost identical to the current one, but with just a bump up to ~120° and a resolution to maintain its pixel density)

If you really end up enjoying VR then just buy the "premium" version of the Q4. Don't worry about the 3S being inferior, it's not. The lenses aren't as good, but you honestly don't notice when in VR or MR. You'll need to budget $45-$100 for a battery strap so just buy what you can currently afford. You're getting a $50 AAA game for free (Arkham Shadow) and if you use Steve's referral code you'll get $30 in store credit too. And you'll also get 3 months of Meta's subscription library for free and that includes another AAA game (Asgard's Wrath 2). The 3S is such a tremendous value for people new to VR. The connect thing might be handy becasue I CANNOT for the life of get my Moto G14 phone to connect to my Quest 3 properly. I cannot get it to stream to my phone. Tried everything but it just wont happen. Shows me all the deets and I can download stuff from the app and have it install on my headset but I can't get it to stream. I have to pull out an old Samsung to get content to stream.

Who can really afford a gpu to drive pcvr games? A quest 3s headset costs as much as a low end gpu.

such a shame that we don't have a real exciting metaverse with user created content and user generated economy . i don't care about games . i want alternate realities to experience with likeminded people . i'm so sick and tired of vr scene where they oonly try to sell their games ... and no ... the corporate crap meta worlds horizon is not itand neither the rest of crappy vr platforms that exist right now .

VR wave sucks!! don't buy into them and don't push them! The frames are so cheaply produced, if you ever clean the lenses they'll break!
