You came through in the clutch, I sleep during the day and was awakened by my parents because someone arrived to buy the vehicle we were selling, this video was super helpful
You forgot the 2nd seller signature line under the odometer statement. I believe this NEEDS to be signed by the seller in addition to the release signature. Very important signature you don't want to miss!
1A needs to be filled out by Seller, dated and signed, then below the odometer both Seller and Buyer needs to print, date, and sign, does the Seller needs to sign number #2 Signature Release of Liability, or is that only for the Lienholder to sign releasing the vehicle? If the Vehicle is paid off and no lienholder I don't believe #2 needs to be signed by the Seller and dated! Am I correct on this? If anyone can offer assistance that would be much appreciated, thank you! I'm debating if the Seller needs to sign #2 on the bottom of the title, releasing interest in Vehicle? 👍😊
Why not the dmv? Don’t independent offices charge yet another fee for doing the paperwork? Maybe I’m lucky I’m waiting 15-45 min at my local dmv office.
My truck is under my dad’s name but I’ve been the one who has been paying the car off. Would it be okay to just transfer the car to my name or just leave it? Tips from others is appreciated
@@MrHector4563thank you, when you say gift will I be putting a dollar amount on the selling price? Like a dollar? Because I have the title with me now lol doing it as I watch this now
@@uboii no i would say leave it blank since its a gift but turn around the pink slip and on the “new register owner” bottom right thats where you state gift in writing!
Please explain the box directly under the owner's date and signature. It begins with "Federal and State Law requires that you state the mileage...." and then there's an "under penalty of perjury" declaration for the odometer reading with a signature and date lines? Are you saying, the seller doesn't need to do this part? And what about the 3rd signature in the bottom right corner that releases interest?
I purchased a use car today in CA and the seller signed in the buyer's section. I asked him not to scratch it out for now and I signed next to / under his signature. And he also checked the "Mileage exceeds the odometer mechanical limits" which he scratched on a little. What do I do?
Thank you for the concise explanation. I am selling a car in a junkyard. I have some questions. 1. The odometer is broken but can be read through an OBD2 reader. Can I just guess the mileage? 2. The junkyard had told me to sign only line 1a. is that correct? Don't I need to sign the box where it says transferor/seller signature and line#2 as well?
Great video. If the car is not operable and I can’t do smog check can I still sell it? Also do I need a separate bill of sale or just the part that comes with title? I’m in California. Thank you
Do you happen to know what would i need to do in my situation? When i bought my car my mother is my co-signer because her credit score is better than mine and we got a lower apr rate. The car is already paid off, no lien on the title, and we have the title in hand. Both of our names are on the title but hers is first (there is "or" after my mother's name and then mine below it) Now the car is paid off, we want to removed my mother's name on the titled solely to me. And im planning to moved at different state. The car is registered in my mom's state right now, like i said im planning to moved in a different state. What should i do? I hope you might help me... You said to leave questions in the comments below but it appears you answer very few of them. sigh. I'll ask anyway and hope it is not a waste of time. How do I find a good local tile transfer office? Can I have them fill out pink slip then take it into DMV? Who do I pay these fees to and when?
No DMV required, just take it to the title transfer office! There are a lot of independent shops, so just google "title transfer office" for your area. That is where you pay all the fees.
I'm an Australian who's planning on staying in America for a month. It says in the top portion what my address is. What would I even put down? I plan on taking the car that I'll buy from the West coast to the East coast. Are there more steps that need to be done by me?
thanks for the great info. After I filled out the NLR form online (as the seller) do I need to do anything to cancel my car's registration? Or does that handle it?
Great video thank you! My friend is in New York and I’m in LA. He wants to gift me his car I’ve been storing and maintaining for him for over a year. If I understand you in order to transfer the title to me he needs only sign the title and FedEx it to me, as I can fill in everything else, yes? My question is do I or he just put “gift” under sale price? Thanks
how do i fill out this form if all i want to do is remove a name from the title. currently on the title, i have my name and someone else's name with an "OR" in between. is filling out this form different in that case? i'm not technically selling it; im just removing a name from the title. thanks in advance!
@@djayeenayea. The person you want removed has to sign 1a. Leave 1b blank. I said the car cost $1 or a gift and it worked. I brought it to dmv and they mailed me my new title with just my name on it.
What if the title's a fake or duplicate? How can you verify it's real? CA DMV doesn't have any online tool to look them up. Only way I heard is to get the bill of sale notarized at a bank or something, but what will they actually do if the repo guy shows up saying you don't own the car? Does the notary step in as a witness to the sale? But what if the seller faked their identity and vanished and now no one can be held accountable?

my mom passed away in Washington state. we shipped her car 2004 car to California but we can not find the title. How do I register it here? we have her death certificate and last reg.
It looks like to can actually do the whole transfer online at the CA DMV website.... so what am I missing? You upload a scanned copy and everything. I came here to figure out how to fill it out because I don't want to mess that up and the instructions on the website are not exactly clear. But this is more about having someone else do it. lol.
