      Take every opportunity you can now to practice, hone and enjoy acting. So join acting classes and groups, take workshops (at the top drama schools in the holidays if you can), even at home in your bedroom. Take a scene, learn it, and film yourself with your phone then watch it back and do it again. Practice is everything. The more you do the better you will become, and the more you immerse yourself in and around people doing it the better. Get life experience as well - you need this to understand characters. Join acting groups on Facebook (just search acting in groups and join) chat to others and go to auditions. Get involved in student films and build up great footage for your reel. You can look for auditions on Mandy.com also. Once you have a great reel, some solid experience and a handful of pro jobs you can join Spotlight and you're off! If you can attend drama school at some point I highly recommend it. I hope that was useful and the very best of luck to you :)

    Thank you for this. I have been working as a background actor for over 2 decades now as well as a couple of student films and features in movies but it still is not enough to be considered for spotlight but this initial knockback is only spurring me on to keep going. I will be taking the experience root because at 43 and being told at 24 while on a fine art degree that I should switch courses to performing arts that perhaps I didn't make the best long term decision but made the right decision at the time. Now I have quite a lot of life experience and industry experience to draw from that I know now this is what I wanted all along. I feel as if I have comic acting in me. Hugely inspired by the late great Robin Williams.

    • @ActorsAnonymousUK

      There are some open auditions not requiring experience. I would practice first, even if that's on your own in your bedroom. Film it, tweak it and keep going. This is all experience and will give you confidence and help build skills. Short films are a good place to start.

    • @ActorsAnonymousUK
      @ActorsAnonymousUK  4 года назад +1

      Hi Tarnia, anything where you are able to practice and hone your craft is good experience. If you want to go do drama school then doing these drama courses now will help you get to that stage also. If you're able to sign up and do extra work now, as well as get involved in student films and shorts (try Mandy.com) then all these things are going to help you gain the knowledge, confidence and experience and open you up to new things. I'd say do as much as you can, test things and see what you like - maybe you prefer comedy acting over Shakespeare for example. Have a great Christmas.

Otherwise, for anywhere else, please check the teacher out and see what their experience is. They should be able to provide you with information or just check them out on line.

Here's one idea - you could find other young actors who are a similar age and have an agent, then find their agents. You might find some agencies specialising in younger actors that way. Can you shoot some scenes on a phone and put a little reel together, just a couple of minutes, then approach the agents with that. Please do ask for your parents help with this. There's a lot of Facebook groups now that you can join where paid jobs are posted, just search in groups under acting and auditions and they'll pop up. Twitter is actually a good place too - follow as many casting directors as you can and keep an eye on their posts - see the Casting Directors Guild website for a list of the good casting directors. Have you been contacting agents via email already? Start with Contacts and look through the agents individually to see who's websites look solid. My town has alot of casting calls for student films and smaller productions however, I am worried about auditioning for them. How should I progress from my acting classes? Should I just bite the bullet and apply and see what i get? or will it look odd if I apply without an agent or real experiance?

      Hi Dannie, thanks for getting in touch. That's the best reason to be acting :) Just for the love of it. Keep taking classes and apply for anything that comes up. Look at your local theatres and amateur theatre groups to see what they're doing. You have nothing to lose and if you look at auditions as something you can use for practice and actually enjoy the process, then there's no reason not to go for it! You probably wont come across anything where they specifically want actors from agents as those jobs are listed in Spotlight. Jump in and go for it.

    Hi I’m only 14 and I really want to get my name out there I have applied for some roles and I’ve never had a reply I really want to start getting involved in more I’m in a normal secondary school and always do the school shows. I want to get as good and successful as Asher angel and hopefully one day work with him. Well that’s the dream 🙂

      Hi Joe, keep at it. Keep practicing and keep applying. Part of being an actor is dealing with not getting roles and just keeping going! The reasons you dont get roles are 99% of the time nothing to do with you and your performance. If you're near a leading drama school check out there courses or do a summer course. Study other actors and what they've done. Keep practicing and doing it for the love of it :)

      As a 16 Year Old, The advice I can give is, Chose Drama GCSE (You don't have to don't worry, I didn't, I hope that works the same in Scotland, Sorry if its a different system) or in college, Do drama Or Performing Arts (Also don't have to But It helps, Alot) , That helps understand the industry. Other than that, Read scripts, Perform the scripts in front of people with friends. If you have a favorite movie, remake the scenes as your favorite character. Build up confidence with performing, Sure this one's harder but it honestly helps so much. Finally, if there's any performances at school, Audition for them, If you get a role Brilliant! I'm sure you will! If you don't get a major role, that's okay too, It'll still help you build up your skills and confidence. Hope that helps! And Best Of Luck to you!

    Hi I’m 13 year old living in England and Im taking drama as a JCSC and my grade is all ready a 4A when it should be a 2 (that’s normal grade for my age) I’m going to collage after school to do drama could I get an agent while being in collage?

    • @ActorsAnonymousUK
      @ActorsAnonymousUK  4 года назад

      Hi Rhys, it's possible although most agents are looking at students coming out of drama school from a degree or masters. If you have professional experience already and have a reel or are in a show you could invite an agent too then it's possible.

      There's no straight answer for that i'm afraid. It'll depend on your experience and when you're ready for it. You can only gain access to Spotlight with either experience or on graduating from one of the leading schools. Best of luck

      If an agent wants you to pay then it’s a scam. The only thing you should pay for are classes so make sure to find an agent online that isn’t sketchy and won’t make you pay :)

    Is it late to start acting career at 30 in the UK without previous experience and non-UK and non- EU citizen?

    • @ActorsAnonymousUK
      @ActorsAnonymousUK  4 года назад +2

      It's never too late to start. In fact the older you get the less competition you have! It all depends on what acting you want to do though. We can all take courses and enjoy acting at any time :) You will need to gain professional experience for professional work. There are roles for every type of person now - our stories and characters are becoming much more real and diverse.

One of the reasons we do this is to provide a transparent, experienced, and VERY honest view of the acting industry and support newcomers as much as we can.
