Just wanted to chime in to say that I just followed this tutorial today (4 years later!) on Windows 11 and it worked perfectly. Thanks for posting this! It would be really nice if the Inkscape developers would incorporate this functionality directly into the app so that these additional steps are not required.
Win 8.1: I was a confused after following the instructions on inkscape, so maybe this will help others who were making the same mistake I was. Under user variables, click path then edit. After the text that's already there, type ;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.26\bin;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.26\lib (or whatever your ghostscript location is). The semicolons let you add multiple variables. Press ok and try opening your file.
Thank you. I was able to open the eps file following the way you did but I am not able to edit the file. The text became images. Did I do anything wrong?
same here: I follow the instructions and I got this: ps2pdf executed but logged the following error: Error: /undefinedfilename in (C:\\Users\\Radek Durna\\Disk Google\\Pracovn\\LOGA\\logo_TACR_zakl_cb.eps) Operand stack: Execution stack: %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push Dictionary stack: --dict:962/1684(ro)(G)-- --dict:0/20(G)-- --dict:78/200(L)-- Current allocation mode is local Last OS error: No such file or directory GPL Ghostscript 9.26: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
not working (win 10, 64bit, restarted after ghost installation... I did move the path upwards as instructed) I followed the instructions and when I try to import .ps file to Inkscape it returns me this: ps2pdf executed but logged the following error: Error: /undefinedfilename in (C:\\Users\\Radek Durna\\Disk Google\\Pracovn\\LOGA\\logo_TACR_zakl_cb.eps) Operand stack: Execution stack: %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push Dictionary stack: --dict:962/1684(ro)(G)-- --dict:0/20(G)-- --dict:78/200(L)-- Current allocation mode is local Last OS error: No such file or directory GPL Ghostscript 9.26: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
I suggest to check if the file path contains special characters - Pracovn is suspicious to me in this case. In my case my name Gábor was included in the path with special characer 'á' in it. The same error log showed it as Gbor, so I placed the file to a folder without any such characters and it worked fine. Also make sure that the environmental variables path is updated to the correct gs version in the path. Let's see.

The tutorial still works, just a thing with editing system variables in general; the changes may only take effect after a restart
