Fun fact. Miku was the originator of the group and was supposed to be the lead singer. However Miku decided that her voice wasn't strong enough and searched for a new lead singer. which ended up being Saiki. Miku wanted to do more than backup singer so Kanami taught her how to play guitar. She started as pure rhythm but can play riffs now. That is how talented these girls are.
so this was fun, I am so pumped after watching this (and this only compounded during editing)... let me know how you guys found it! ***I have been corrected on the genre of this group! They are hard-rock, not metal. Sorry guys! The copyrighted section of this video can be found here: ruclips.net/video/pmanD_s7G3U/видео.html and if you do like this style of music, a fair few anime OST's really do enjoy using a similar formula of instrumentation/vocals and structure... if you would like to listen to more (and don't know where to find them without combing through a metric-tonne of anime) my friend Sam over at @StudioYuraki ruclips.net/channel/UCMTPj3w6L0hol6KHu9DHzQA does English covers of some absolute bops from various different shows.
Haha. You're not wrong about the anime sound. A shortened version of Glory was used in Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains. And I've since learned that their new label has booked them to do an anime intro theme.
If you want a Japanese Metal band (Band-Maid are Hard Rock) to react to, Lovebites are your girls. Asami has a really powerful voice, and she sings in English. "Lovebites - Holy War - Live @Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020" 🔥 🤘 And I bet you danced to Freedom on repeat for a few hours afterwards. 😋
I agree to a lot of comments here. "Wonderland of Bandmaid" to showcase saiki's voice. Its great that vocal coach reacts to bandmaid. Great reaction. Thanks
"Happiest drummer I've ever seen" Just happy you noticed that. Thanks for this! It was really fun to watch. Since you mentioned the japanese traditional singing I thought of suggesting Wagakki Band. They're band that combines traditional japanese music elements with rock-ish stuff and I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy a lot listening to the vocalists. "Synchronicity" would be a nice piece to listen to, since both of them have their own parts through the song... Thanks again..!! Have a nice day!
More Band-Maid, please!!! You might want to check out Band-Maid Wonderland from the same Feb 2020 concert that is more a song that is vocally centered. As far as musically talented these ladies have it all!!! Amazing composition, masters of transitions, and superb synergy! Great to see you react to them and nice to see your smile again Julia.
As a devout BAND-MAID fan I was really pleased with your honest and knowledgeable critique of their abilities. I knew subscribing to your channel was a great choice! Thank you 🙏
Wonderland, obviously, is a must. superb singing. also Blooming. completely different style (again). on a side note, your reaction (joy and laughing) reminded me of my first hearing Band Maid. i've spent several hours that day, digging for more songs and picking my jaw from the floor. and there are 90+ of them...
I've been a fan for a little over a year now. I have to say one of my favorite things is seeing how happy people doing reaction videos for them get. :)
Some sweet, sweet harmonies between the vocalists that you must listen from this band: Choose Me (Live, February 14 2020) Wonderland (Live, February 14 2020) Blooming (Music Video) The Dragon Cries (Music Video) Alone (Music Video) Endless Story (Music Video) Glad that you enjoy your first Band-Maid song, Julia. Good luck to you :)
@@carrickglover9777 I was thinking of recommending many songs that displays Saiki & Miku's individual vocal ability, but i was afraid that the list will be too long and overwhelming. So i just recommend some that focused on the harmony between them for now. TIME is indeed a great song!
Ahhh another BAND-MAID fan is born! This band is like none other, and as you pointed out, they are ALWAYS smiling for these live performances. As others have stated, for a more vocal centric performance, Wonderland is what you want :)
Great reaction... 👍 Once upon a time, a small pigeon have a quest to a World Domination... For that quest, she then create a band wearing cute outfit while playing cool music... Online, the pigeon found soundwave princess, who then brought a half gorilla to join... The half gorilla knew a barefooted assassin and agreed to join them... Realizing her voice is not what she want in the band, the pigeon and the band search for the voice... And they got the Ice Queen... And now they march toward Nippon Budokan to dominate the land of rising sun. To be continued...
Welcome to the World of Band-Maid. Saiki had surgery for vocal cord polyps I think 3 years ago. She really hurt her voice at the point of having a graspy voice and intense pain. The fact that she recover this well is impresive. If you want to hear more of her voice I recommend "Wonderland", it has more of a jazz feeling rather than hard rock so she shines a little more. Love your reaction Julia, this song is about being free and having fun with life so you got that perfectly. You make me happy when you went back to the solo so you win my subscribe (:
First off great reaction! You will absolutely enjoy Band-Maid's Wonderland from this same show and is also in their channel. You see great voice range and also great harmonizing. This song Freedom is their fun on stage song
I absolutely love your reaction and I am still amazed 7 months after finding Band Maid. Thanks for your positive review and your insights. I really appreciated your points.
“Puzzle” and “Anemone” (Acoustic versions) will let you hear Saiki’s vocals as pure and natural as possible. The emotion in her voice is beautiful as well. Bonus: Beautiful backup harmonies by Kanami!
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to what is my favorite band out there currently. Although they are reacted to a lot, I had never seen or heard a vocal coach break down Band Maid so awesome to hear your insights into Saiki's voice and singing style, as well as Miku's. This was a pleasant surprise this morning(in the states) and thank you. If you would decide to check out another song by them, I can only echo other comments that Wonderland(live) is the best choice that you can easily find on you tube. The other is the acoustic version of Puzzle, which is very hard to find currently.
Julia, that was so much fun to watch. Great reactions. I know you are going to get TONS of suggestions for Wagakki band,. Please listen to them. The singer,Suzuhana Yuko sings in the Shigin style (i.e., the clips you showed of Japanese style vibrato). Wagakki band (wagakki is the word used to describe traditional Japanese instruments) brilliantly mixes traditional sounds with modern rock / metal. "Senbonzakura' is usually the gateway song for most folks discovering this band.
I'm so glad I found your channel (on /r/bandmaid). BAND-MAID is my favorite rock band nowadays, so I'm always happy to learn a little more about their intricacies.
Thank you for covering Band Maid, Julia. It was fascinating to hear your expertise on a band that has captured so many hearts and minds with over 90 songs and 90 million YT hits! Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to these 5 incredible, hard-rocking women:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: ruclips.net/video/__1th7ctgMo/видео.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: ruclips.net/video/4uIYBkAybCI/видео.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: ruclips.net/video/usWZvlGGDSs/видео.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Oh my gosh. I loved your Mamamoo reactions. Can't believe you're reacting to Band-maid, another one of my favorites!! It's fun to just see you enjoy the music and learning along 😁
Wonderland by them is a pretty good song to really show vocal range, but there are a couple others that most tend to forget about, Daydreaming is a classic that shows great vocals and Endless Story. that one really really showcases her vocals very well.
That was the first time you heard Band Maid and this is the first time I have watched you. Your personality and knowledge and insights are excellent and your energy matches them so it has been a joy watching your reaction and proof of that is when I rewatch it and I definitely will a few times. Viva Julia and BM! Subscribed!
Thank you, Julia this was very refreshing, getting a reaction / review from a voice coach there has been a lot of musicians that perform reaction / reviews of *BAND-MAID* in which they break down a song talking about transition and structure which enhances my listing pleasure and this is no exception. Since you got a taste of *Saiki* vocals in 2020 would be interesting to see your reaction on their 2014 music video *Thrill* You mention the stress on *Saiki* vocal cords in 2019 they had their world domination tour which consisted of 27 concerts Japan / Europe / United States. In the early years they would perform so much that *Saiki* had work with a voice coach learning how to manage and take care of her vocals. Here are some suggested songs: 🕊️ 2018 - Puzzle / Anemone (acoustic ver.) In this just *Kanami* on the acoustic guitar with *Saiki* and the interesting thing she is sitting throughout the performance. 🕊️ 2020 - Wonderland This is more of a Jazz influence and really show *Saiki* vocal range. Thank you for reacting to *BAND-MAID* with 6 studio CDs and 31 videos on their youtube channel there will be a lot of *BAND-MAID* to take in the future. 😁
Hi Julia! It's refreshing how you react to review not only vocalists in isolation but how they work in a band environment. This song, although not displaying any technical prowess, is a perfect example of how a band gels together and carries the vocalist in a performance setup. Thanks for highlighting that. Your knowledge and understanding of vocal performance coupled with your infectious enthusiasm and high-energy reactions is a winning combination. SUBSCRIBED!
I absolutely love seeing people have so much fun watching Band-Maid for the first time. You picked the happiest song out of them all...this is their favorite song to play live and it's been in more concerts than any of their other songs. It's one of Band-Maid's hallmarks to change things up between verses so that nothing is ever a straight repeat. Most often it's more noticeable with the instruments, but of course with your training it's natural that you noticed it in the vocals. If you want to hear what I consider their most 'anime' song, check out Cross. I think it's even better suited than their song that actually was used for an anime outro (Glory, used for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS).
They're always giving the audience enjoyment. Wonderland please. Unique musical composition, with more vocal concentrated too due to some minimalistic instrumentals. Their musicianship always impressed me and makes me smile. There's also Daydreaming too. They also have acoustic performances too. Anemone and Puzzle. Gives a different vibe as compared to the original versions
"Jimmy Page just after seeing the band play in Tokyo in 2016. He complimented Akane and said she was the reincarnation of John Bonham. Akane was star struck. She later said Mr Jimmy Page-san offered her much encouragement and she promised to do her best." He did say that, let's not spread disinformation. Can't imagine being a sad boy over a woman's success. Big L's.
@@Bolverine Please, we can dispense with the juvenile insults. I'm not sad, but impressed he noticed her and wanted to meet her, that alone is a great musical achievement. It's a reddit rumour. He was indeed impressed, he did want to meet her and he did compliment her, but he never made that comparison. I read the only article that was ever written about that meeting and it didn't say anything close to that. It's fantastic that he did notice her and had a few pictures taken with her, I'm not taking anything away from her. If you are so certain he said that, find the quote or citation, please,. If it's true, I want to see it as well. Here is a link to the abbreviated version of the the Japanese article (August 2017), that should be enough for you to track the original article and try to find that citation. But trust me, I looked and it isn't there. because he didn't say that. rockinon.com/blog/japan/164453?rtw=
@@Michael20545 The quote mentioned and the reddit post were pulled from a Japanese Music website. Direct quote from the people who were in attendance. Not a friend of a friend who speaks Japanese. How dumb. 🤣
You did an amazing reaction... one of the best. I wasn't expecting that since you are focused on voice, but the energy and fun of Band-Maid is hard to ignore. I came for Band-Maid but subscribed because this was awesome.
Plleeeease react to “Wonderland” it’s my favorite as far as saiki’s singing! Also freedom is one of their most fun songs to perform but seeing your reaction makes the joy doublely infectious! Lastly I think the drummer Akane will appreciate your anime comment as she is a big anime lover, wishes for band maid to do an anime opening, and is a big fan of the song you got copyrighted for lol
I discovered this incredible band a week ago and have been listening to them ever since. They have so many excellent songs, but I have to admit that "Freedom" is really my favorite! These young Maids exude an extraordinary energy... I'm in love! Thanks Julia for this great video... I'm going to subscribe to your channel so I can follow your reactions...
Good reaction! Interesting what you had to say about Saiki's stressful singing style. I wonder if that relates to her having had surgery, in the past, for vocal chord polyps. The secondary vocalist, Miku, is the person who had the concept for the band and contacted the lead guitarist, Kanami, after listening to a cover video Kanami posted online, Kanami knew the drummer Akane, and Akane knew the bass player Misa. Miku had originally conceived of the band as a 4 person group with herself as the vocalist, but Saiki was brought in as the lead vocalist, and the 5th member, after auditioning, because they all decided that Miku's voice wasn't an ideal match (as the lead, at least) for the sound of the band. By the way, the band considers themselves to be a hard rock band, not a metal band.
Seeing how much you smiled watching this is exactly the reason I love this band. They never fail to make me feel alive! Great, fun reaction... I legitimately lol'd when you said "Can I go back? Of course I can, it's my channel." 😁
Akane, the drummer, is known as "Gorilla" because of how hard shit hits those drums. But damn, is she an amazing drummer. Band-maid is just such an amazing group of talented girls making badass music.
There is a video somewhere of Akane hitting Miku's back with sticks tapping out a rhythm & I would so love for her do that for me. Might actually make my back feel good. Chiropractor by Akane's drumming. 😅
I do love a first time with BAND-MAID. That WTF! moment never gets old. Also this was a first time for me, with someone properly breaking down what Saiki and Miku are doing vocally, which I appreciate immensely. Thankyou.
I really enjoyed your reaction! I did expected a comment in voice coach's view, but I didn't expected a comment in other instruments and sound. I totally agree with your comments about the transition from drum solo to guitar solo is phenomenal. And Akane(Dr.) 's smile in a drum solo. :-) My favorite part in this song is where instrumental music is reduced, bass player MISA playing a chord. I'm looking forward to see another reaction video!
Best rock and roll band in the world right now!! Musical precision of Rush. Energy and tightness of ac DC. Melodic genius of the Beatles. Pure presence and sexiness of the Stones. Band Maid forever!🤘
Man it's so nice to see someone really enjoying this, and the analysis was cool as well! The maid thing made me think they were a pop gimmick so I ignored the recommended videos for a long time, but now they're one of my fav bands You should definitely check out some others, Freedom is one of their most straight-ahead pop rock songs so I think you'd get a kick out of seeing their range, they're awesome. Alone and Anemone have some good examples of the high and low vocal interplay too
just yesterday i was thinking that all the band-maid reactions talk about the rest of the girls and never about saiki (don't get me wrong, they are INCREDIBLY TALENTED AND DESERVE THE PRAISE) but saiki is always sidelined and now you drop this!! thank youu i love your videos especially the mamamoo ones hehe
Since seeing this video a few weeks ago, I have become a huge fan of theirs and have probably seen most of their videos and watched this a dozen times or more. I think I'm obsessed. Thank you for that.
"The most adorable musical bad asses I've seen in a long time!" - a perfect description that got my subscription! Well that and the incredibly detailed, insightful and informative analysis and your passionate reaction. I foresee you watching a lot more Band-Maid! Anyway, Band-Maid... Forget they're all female. Forget they're dressed as maids. Know that three members (Kanami-Lead, Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians and that they all have superb skills as well as passion, a lack of ego and the ability to play real, in yer face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals with not an autotune in sight. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the same concert as this one, which was released as a DVD in April. DOMINATION: ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html and WONDERLAND: ruclips.net/video/x4hxLeHbqZo/видео.html . Saiki, the vocalist, sings a lot of falsetto in Wonderland - very different to what you just heard. Also, well spotted, they don't do cut 'n' paste chorus-verse-chorus but always add some changes in the third chorus and some extra treats. There is another excellent Japanese band who fit that description of yours even more - the incredible Babymetal. They even invented their own genre of Metal - Kawaii Metal/ Cute Metal. Their lead singer is a soprano with a range of C4 to G#5 and their songs are some of the best Metal around mixed with superb vocals, lyrics that are about very un-Metal subjects such as chocolate or playing Hide and Seek for example and epic live shows. Oh, and very cute. I saw Sabbath in 1976 and Babymetal in February and many in between and Babymetal really are the best thing I've seen in Metal for many decades. Here's a fairly recent song that shows off Su's voice well and has a beautiful guitar piece too, a heartbreaking ballad called No Rain, No Rainbow: ruclips.net/video/pDgqo6fcliY/видео.html or try something epic, fun and Metal as it gets - Headbanger: ruclips.net/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/видео.html .
I have seen hundreds of reactions to Band Maid and the first time I see that they focus from the voice, I liked it very much, very instructive, it seems something simple but it is very complex. Greetings from Argentina.
Glad you like them. They've been my favorite band for the past two years. My first exposure was while driving. My phone was in the passenger seat playing Spotify, set to a Japanese rock station. When Band Maid came on, I had no idea it was an all girls band in maid cosplay outfits. All I knew, as a former musician, was that they knew their instruments. Once I pulled over and read up on them and listened to more of their stuff, I was in love.
So. I love watching new Band-Maid reactions. 'cause it's fun. But. Every time I watch a new reaction to Freedom, I come back to Julia's reaction because you, Julia, just understand how much their quality ends up = fun!
Thanks Julia, even though since some (or alot, lol) of your comments was over my head a bit, I very much enjoyed your reaction to Band Maid. It is interesting fact that the lead singer Saki had vocal cord polyps removed in 2017. She talked about it a little in this interview- www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/cbf5p9/translated_saikis_interview_from_the_day_before/ People have mentioned her voice is stronger now, but I got to say if that was me... well I don't know how common that surgery is or the success rate, I am happy she got through it, good for her, I wish her and Band Maid continued success...
i keep coming back here just to see your smile transformation when you realize all the fun this song provide. a mirror of my own reaction, a kind of pleasant souvenir. thanks
Ha. I didn't expect this on your channel This is my favorite Jrock band, my favorite J music anything. Almost all their stuff can be described with one word. Fun. They are the real deal too, excellent musicians.
Great reaction. Your technical knowledge is impressive; I learned so much! You've stumbled upon a truly amazing band. Honestly, for me, Freedom is a fun song that I love but it doesn't even make it into my top 20 of this band; this should indicate just how much quality music they have already released. I adore Saiki's vocals, but the band's greatest strength probably lies in its songwriting (the lead guitarist writes the music) and crazy talented instrumentalists. Most fans recommend the live performances because the band usually adds extra verses to their live renditions (and they are incredible performers), but I'd actually recommend the MVs if you're interested in really hearing the nuance and complexity of their musical arrangements (there are exceptions and some live performances seem better mixed than the studio versions). I hope you react to more of their songs (you won't regret it, esp if you like creative rocknroll), as this band needs more exposure to Western audiences. Personally, I'd recommend Yolo, Daydreaming, Secret My Lips, and Endless Story - all vids posted on their YT channel.
Different take on reactions. It's great that Band Maid can bring anyone to the fold. Thank you for your honest and informative views. Welcome to the world domination.
Yeah the thing about the “2nd singer”’s voice you mentioned is exactly what she herself thought. Her voice was/is too bright and not suitable for the band she founded. So they found Saiki and then Miku (2nd singer) volunteered to learn how to play the guitar to give the band more musical options. The rest is history. Oh I also read that Miku uses Saiki’s old hand-me-down mic nowadays. I love this band.
Usually when I want to be in a good mood, I listen to this BAND-MAID song. Seeing Akane so happy puts you a big smile on the face. But when It's not enough, I always come back to this reaction video, not only for Akane's smile but mostly for Julia's. Now it's time for a new BAND-MAID reaction Julia!! BAND-MAID / Wonderland Live (Feb. 14th, 2020) 🙏🏻❤️ Edit: Whaaat? I just saw that you've uploaded the Wonderland video!! haha what a timing. Sorry 😅
Yes, and you caught that amazing 'stutter riff' change from drum solo to the guitar solo ... and you also caught on that the band never plays the same riffs/fills twice in a song. This is Band-Maid ... high energy, awesome variety in every song ... they havea 90+ song catalog and there are no stinkers. And also, my gawd yes, never noticed that before but yes she does give off a LiSA kind of sound to her vocals. WOW, good catch, I've been listening to Band-Maid and LiSA for several years now and never really caught on to that ... cool! but if you're into LiSA then if you haven't already, check out Kalafina (they've actually played 'cross-stage' shows with LiSA.!) I am going to sub for sure .. it's not often I watch a Band-Maid reaction and get schooled in some new aspect of Band-Maid!! ;-)
Glad you enjoyed it! I thought the LiSA example would work :) she has a slightly brighter timbre than Saiki imo but similar styles absolutely. They have similar vibrato speeds as well although I do think Saiki's is a little clearer. Both are fun vocalists :) Gurenge (LiSA) is what lured me into watching Demon Slayer in the first place.
Thank you for the in depth breakdown from a vocalist's perspective. I have no formal vocal training/experience, so I really have no frame of reference to critique singer beyond "I like/don't like the way it sounds" so this really is eye opening. Plus I just love watching someone truly enjoy discovering a band that I love.
Great analysis!, thank you for noticing song arrangement, and large intervals, etc. Miku was the founder and singer, but immediately realized she didn’t have warm/dark/maturity. So they got 19yr old Saiki, a great fit. But 3-4 years later she needed surgery to continue. It went well, she’s still doing that nearly two hours per show, and seems to have learned how to better manage it. Tons of (mostly Japanese rocker chick) singers came to mind, but first, do you like Sass Jordan? The absolute happiest drummer in the world just released a drum cover to a 94 Sass Jordan hit. Both Sass (claim to be friends?) and the (famous) original drummer gave her kudos for the drum performance. She’s 10yr old Yoyoka, already played with Falloutboy, Cyndi Lauper, gotten kudos from Dave grohl, RaTM’s drummer, she’s full pro. And joyous! She went doubly viral when Robert Plant praised her drumming at age 8. But then when Jimmy Page (also from Led Zeppelin like Plant) praised BM’s Akane’s drumming in person, she has reason to be happy too. Yoyoka does Sass, “High Road Easy” ruclips.net/video/Q-1mQOpp-L4/видео.html I’ll also try to come back with links to Fuki (Unlucky Morpheus, Doll$Boxx), Marina (Destrose, Mardelas), the singer for Wagakki Band, and Asami (Lovebites), all modern rock/metal singers with different vibratos... (hope I can find good examples, rather than flood you, or give up?!) Fuki. Hope you get to enjoy some of these...
What such a wonderful articulate reaction. Matey, so glad you enjoyed your introduction to this amazing band. Whatever I was gonna say has already been said. Oh wait...... The girls purposely try to put each other off, coz they can. They're not communicating with each other as such.... they are pulling faces at each other or doing something to throw each other off. Saiki (singer) actually giggles whilst singing to Akane (Drummer).... playing games with each other while playing the biggest show of their lives..... for a dvd. As for the song itself.... it is an old song, but a band and fan favorite. it is a cool song but there is soooo much more to come. Enjoy your Band-maid journey. Such a cool reaction.
Akane (drummer) often makes funny faces and tries to make Saiki (lead vocalist) laugh. She succeeds once or twice during this song 03:11 Akane making kissey face at Saiki
Is soooo fun to watch your videos!! i can't stop!! So many faces, knowledge, info, fun and beauty in just one channel xD I love your content. Keep going, you are GREAT! (with all due respect you are so pretty)
Band Maid is 🔥🔥🔥 these ladies will rock your socks off!! Wonderland is a good vocal performance, but I think it would also be cool to see you react to Blooming. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Congratulations - a most coherent reaction. At 76 I have listened to so many bands including the Stones as a support group. My first love is opera but having found Band Maid by accident I am addicted. They are all wonderfully talented and have very strong musical backgrounds. The lead guitar who is the composer and arranger is trained in classical piano and I believe the drummer and bass are also pianists. This shows in their musical discipline and the range of their compositions. But above all they are having fun and have great charm and cuteness. The 'gap' as they call it between cute maids and hard rockers works like a dream. They deserve world domination.
"I kind of want to hear it again can I go back yes it's my channel , I can do what I want" 😂😂😂😂. You're so adorable don't change " mate " 🤟😎🤟 from Canada.
Excellent reaction. Welcome to Band-Maid. I discovered them about a year ago and they quickly became my favorite rock group. They are extremely talented, beautiful, charismatic and make great music.
Typically, all the BAND-MAID fans have already flooded the comments. The song I really love that showcases Saiki is the acoustic version of Puzzle, not for any vocal acrobatics, but just for how she is able to transmit the emotion of the song so effectively. The only problem is that it’s gotten taken down from YT recently, but you might be able to find it with some searching. It’s definitely worth it and shows you a completely different side to the band!
Just watched this reaction again--I'd forgotten how much fun you had doing it! I know you've done some more--but more more would not be taken amiss. In particular, look for the song Different (MV), which actually was used as anime intro music.
Thank you so much. This video was the first time i heard about band maid. And i love them. Just got the Blu Ray of their concert where freedom is from. 2 hours of musical fun. There final song endless story was amazing hearing saiki sing. I only found official music video but you should hear her live from this same concert. Also the song Time is just Miku singing. And she is much better when sing alone and not in the background. Fun fact. I got the concert in mail here in norway on Miku's birthday. I follow them all on Instagram. I like your videoes very much and just wanted to tell you about these two songs after i am blown away with a full concert and many new songs.
Love this reaction... nice job. Lead vocalist Saiki has had vocal issues in the past and had to shut it down for awhile. I believe she may have even had vocal cord surgery. That said, she takes fewer risks with her range and in each concert, they will do a 2-3 song set in the middle that will either feature an instrumental (listen to Onset Live) or songs featuring the backup vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miku singing lead (Time, Rock In Me). This is the tightest, sharpest band I’ve heard in decades. Welcome to our world!
You must see DOMINATION live 2020 , and look at RINNE official clip for some edgey Indie rock vocal style. She did have a pitching problem in early days of the band , and needed a throat operation , and singing great . most of their stuff is hard rock , but they do some acoustis songs in their 2 hour sets , and she really nails it with heartbreaking vocal delivery, even if you dont understand Japanese , it gets you anyway. Wonderful reaction btw , and I am in Australia too, and a working musician , so great to see people here finding them. ALSO I heard them say in a recent interview they really want to come to Australia next year , and I will be at every show in Australia, for sure.
Great to see you reacting to Band Maid! I have watched your reactions to So Hyang as well! And while these 2 artistes come from completely different styles, I feel they are the leading edge of their respective genres. There are evenings where I oscillate between Band Maid and So Hyang videos :) As recommended by many other here, do listen to Wonderland (live performance). For a lo-fi mainly vocals performance, check out Puzzle (acoustic live) and Anemone (acoustic live) too.
This drummer is amazing, that Double Crash to Swell at the end is perfect, not an easy technique to master
Jimmy Page saw Band Maid in live in Japan and he said the drummer was one of the best drummers he had ever seen in a concert.
so this was fun, I am so pumped after watching this (and this only compounded during editing)... let me know how you guys found it!
***I have been corrected on the genre of this group! They are hard-rock, not metal. Sorry guys!

and if you do like this style of music, a fair few anime OST's really do enjoy using a similar formula of instrumentation/vocals and structure... if you would like to listen to more (and don't know where to find them without combing through a metric-tonne of anime) my friend Sam over at @StudioYuraki ruclips.net/channel/UCMTPj3w6L0hol6KHu9DHzQA does English covers of some absolute bops from various different shows.
Would like to see what you think of Babymetal's Gimme chocolate!!
This video was amazing ! My day is now complete. Thank you !!
Interesting. They're deeper in their voice than I thought. I was expectung Babymetal, but got more depth.
"Lovebites - Holy War - Live @Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020" 🔥 🤘
And I bet you danced to Freedom on repeat for a few hours afterwards. 😋
This is fantastic. I'm so glad you like them 🤘
Chaseさんだ!
Now we just need her to react to some Unleash the Archers.
OMG Chase :) tell her about BABYMETAL 😉
OMG. Wait... does this mean... is... Is Julia a Ginger Vampire, too?!?!!?? :-)
cute reaction.
Yeah, gonna have to agree with other comments on here - "Wonderland" (also live) would be the right song to react to as a vocal coach :p
Absolutely. Great song and great performance. Band Maid is really great and creative.
THIS!
Daydreaming of Endless Story would be good songs for a vocal-centric reviewer as well....
"Its my channel, I can do what I want!" Haha you're awesome Julia! Keep the reacts coming, please.
I agree to a lot of comments here. "Wonderland of Bandmaid" to showcase saiki's voice. Its great that vocal coach reacts to bandmaid. Great reaction. Thanks
For Saiki showing off, yeah wonderland is the best. Domination for full band showing off.
Daydreaming might be good. And Gion-Cho by BAND-MAIKO.

Thank you 🙏
Thanks to Julia and the people who recommended this, I hadn't heard of this band but will definitely look for more songs
They have a ton. Enjoy the musical journey that is band maid
Be prepared to go nuts. They’re fantastic!
welcome to the pidgeon-hole :D
Wonderland, obviously, is a must. superb singing. also Blooming. completely different style (again). on a side note, your reaction (joy and laughing) reminded me of my first hearing Band Maid. i've spent several hours that day, digging for more songs and picking my jaw from the floor. and there are 90+ of them...
Welcome to Band-Maid world. Love your reaction, it's beyond my expectation too. I'll waiting for your next Band Maid song. Of course, subscribed.
I've been a fan for a little over a year now. I have to say one of my favorite things is seeing how happy people doing reaction videos for them get. :)
Some sweet, sweet harmonies between the vocalists that you must listen from this band:
Choose Me (Live, February 14 2020)
Wonderland (Live, February 14 2020)
Blooming (Music Video)
The Dragon Cries (Music Video)
Alone (Music Video)
Endless Story (Music Video)
Glad that you enjoy your first Band-Maid song, Julia. Good luck to you :)
I would add the song TIME as well , showcasing Miku's singing abilities
@@carrickglover9777 I was thinking of recommending many songs that displays Saiki & Miku's individual vocal ability, but i was afraid that the list will be too long and overwhelming.
So i just recommend some that focused on the harmony between them for now.
TIME is indeed a great song!
I enjoyed the live You when Kanami Miku and Saiki are all singing
@@carrickglover9777 ....and "Manners".
Ahhh another BAND-MAID fan is born! This band is like none other, and as you pointed out, they are ALWAYS smiling for these live performances. As others have stated, for a more vocal centric performance, Wonderland is what you want :)
Great reaction... 👍
Once upon a time,
a small pigeon have a quest to a World Domination...

Now thats one hell of a description
This is great! Love this history of BM with their nicknames!
OMG the drummer!!! Im in love! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Talking about transitions and fills !!
This channel is much more than just a vocal coach reaction channel, and I love that !!
To be honest , I did not expect you to react to Band-Maid... but I am hella glad you are! They are so amazing!
Bonus: Beautiful backup harmonies by Kanami!
wonderfully.. I love those versions kanami is pitch perfect to my unperfect ears anyway
@@anthonyfalante5613 Your ears are just fine.
The drummer almost lost her ability to drum due to injury, that smile means a lot,
Now let't hear Wonderland or Daydream
But what about Thrill, Secret My Lips or even Onset.
What happen to her back?
You think this drummer is fun and smiles a lot you should see Tamu from Nemophila.
@@johnmagill3072 She's absolute monster with drums
I'm so glad I found your channel (on /r/bandmaid). BAND-MAID is my favorite rock band nowadays, so I'm always happy to learn a little more about their intricacies.
I keep getting back to this reaction of yours, it is so enjoyable !!
And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.).
Have now watched this 5 times. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Thank you for doing BAND-MAID!
Subscribed!
Thank you for praising our ladies with your competent and fun reaction. They need more female fans so spread the word plz!
Thank you, Julia this was very refreshing, getting a reaction / review from a voice coach there has been a lot of musicians that perform reaction / reviews of *BAND-MAID* in which they break down a song talking about transition and structure which enhances my listing pleasure and this is no exception.
Since you got a taste of *Saiki* vocals in 2020 would be interesting to see your reaction on their 2014 music video *Thrill*
You mention the stress on *Saiki* vocal cords in 2019 they had their world domination tour which consisted of 27 concerts Japan / Europe / United States. In the early years they would perform so much that *Saiki* had work with a voice coach learning how to manage and take care of her vocals.
Here are some suggested songs:
🕊️ 2018 - Puzzle / Anemone (acoustic ver.) In this just *Kanami* on
the acoustic guitar with *Saiki* and the interesting thing she is sitting
throughout the performance.
🕊️ 2020 - Wonderland This is more of a Jazz influence and really
show *Saiki* vocal range.
Thank you for reacting to *BAND-MAID* with 6 studio CDs and 31 videos on their youtube channel there will be a lot of *BAND-MAID* to take in the future. 😁
Puzzle / Anemone (acoustic ver.) is mesmerizing.
Band Maid are over the top !!!!!!!!! Fantastic Band ....with charismatic musicans !!!!!!!!! They are simply the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SUBSCRIBED!
Listening to BAND-MAID makes you happy. Best rock band in the world.
Who's coming back to this video just because Julia's happiness, energy and smiles brighten any day??
Happiest drummer I have ever seen!! :D
So apparently Jimmy Page himself asked for a photo with this drummer after seeing her perform once... wtf...
Yup back in 2016, he said the drummer was the reincarnation of John Bonham.
@@Michael20545 Indeed, but this how you know Band Maid is legendary, there are legends about them!
"Jimmy Page just after seeing the band play in Tokyo in 2016. He complimented Akane and said she was the reincarnation of John Bonham. Akane was star struck. She later said Mr Jimmy Page-san offered her much encouragement and she promised to do her best."
He did say that, let's not spread disinformation.

You did an amazing reaction... one of the best. I wasn't expecting that since you are focused on voice, but the energy and fun of Band-Maid is hard to ignore. I came for Band-Maid but subscribed because this was awesome.
Band-Maid is the real deal! Hard working talented REAL musicians!
What a fun reaction, seeing you enjoying yourself Julia was as entertaining as the song.
This is such a happy song for me, and then your reaction just increased it exponentially! Can't stop watching it!
My favorite part in this song is where instrumental music is reduced, bass player MISA playing a chord.
The maid thing made me think they were a pop gimmick so I ignored the recommended videos for a long time, but now they're one of my fav bands
You should definitely check out some others, Freedom is one of their most straight-ahead pop rock songs so I think you'd get a kick out of seeing their range, they're awesome.
Domination live Feb 14. A great showcase of the band and the lead singers range and talent. A must watch! (Fellow Aussie here 😋)
Since seeing this video a few weeks ago, I have become a huge fan of theirs and have probably seen most of their videos and watched this a dozen times or more.
Rondo of nightmare shows off su's skills the best.imho
I have seen hundreds of reactions to Band Maid and the first time I see that they focus from the voice, I liked it very much, very instructive, it seems something simple but it is very complex. Greetings from Argentina.
you had the best ever reaction to "Freedom" thanks
That's one of the best transitions in rock music. Been there so many times.
I just found out about this group although they've been around for quite a while?
They kick butt ... and so do you with this review!
Great breakdown, I'd love to hear more on their other songs. Continue to checkout these ladies, they are talented.
This was so much fun to watch. I do enjoy the band play style and the coach reacts. Good work explaining it. Thanks! 1+ Sub.
Tahnks, very interesting, please try 'Wonderland ' next !
She talked about it a little in this interview- www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/cbf5p9/translated_saikis_interview_from_the_day_before/
People have mentioned her voice is stronger now, but I got to say if that was me... well I don't know how common that surgery is or the success rate, I am happy she got through it, good for her, I wish her and Band Maid continued success...
i keep coming back here just to see your smile transformation when you realize all the fun this song provide. a mirror of my own reaction, a kind of pleasant souvenir. thanks
Ha. I didn't expect this on your channel This is my favorite Jrock band, my favorite J music anything.
Almost all their stuff can be described with one word. Fun.
They are the real deal too, excellent musicians.
Thanks for the reaction to the absolute best rock band out there at the moment! From the vocals to the incredible musicianship, these ladies ROCK!
That was an absolutely fascinating breakdown! One of the better reactions I have seen! I learned a lot.
Different take on reactions. It's great that Band Maid can bring anyone to the fold. Thank you for your honest and informative views. Welcome to the world domination.
Band Maid 👐
Chase Carneson was right about you! Awesome channel....subbed.
Hoping for more Band Maid.
We need a little bit of joy in the world right now and this performance was pure joy
14th, 2020) 🙏🏻❤️
Edit: Whaaat? I just saw that you've uploaded the Wonderland video!! haha what a timing. Sorry 😅
Yes, and you caught that amazing 'stutter riff' change from drum solo to the guitar solo ... and you also caught on that the band never plays the same riffs/fills twice in a song.
This is Band-Maid ... high energy, awesome variety in every song ... they havea 90+ song catalog and there are no stinkers.
And also, my gawd yes, never noticed that before but yes she does give off a LiSA kind of sound to her vocals. WOW, good catch, I've been listening to Band-Maid and LiSA for several years now and never really caught on to that ... cool!
but if you're into LiSA then if you haven't already, check out Kalafina (they've actually played 'cross-stage' shows with LiSA.!)
I am going to sub for sure .. it's not often I watch a Band-Maid reaction and get schooled in some new aspect of Band-Maid!!
@@jvoxfox speaking of LiSA and Band-Maid. It seems she is a fan of the band.

Her comment in the live chat 7:24 "this drummer gave me life".
Me too
Thank you for the in depth breakdown from a vocalist's perspective.
Yoyoka does Sass, “High Road Easy” ruclips.net/video/Q-1mQOpp-L4/видео.html
I’ll also try to come back with links to Fuki (Unlucky Morpheus, Doll$Boxx), Marina (Destrose, Mardelas), the singer for Wagakki Band, and Asami (Lovebites), all modern rock/metal singers with different vibratos... (hope I can find good examples, rather than flood you, or give up?!)
Fuki. Unlucky Morpheus’s newest song (THE best musicians), her only-ever attempt at writing/singing in English(subtitled), tribute to a Brazilian singer Andre Matas(sp?). “Carry On Singing to the Sky” MV ruclips.net/video/UlpAWv1PQ8w/видео.html
Fuki. Live with Doll$Boxx on a tough one. My fav musicians (aka Gacharic Spin). “Take My Chance”, 4 singers, about 7 sounds! ruclips.net/video/GiWSW8YkBfs/видео.html
Wagakki Band, “Senbonzakura” (1000 CherryBlossoms) live ruclips.net/video/4VxjF1uE_VM/видео.html
Lovebites (Asami), always all in English. “Edge of the World” live ruclips.net/video/oy7rcYokZyQ/видео.html
Marina. Destrose live 2013 “Headless Goddess” ruclips.net/video/szmbf1N0oX0/видео.html
Marina. Mardelas MV 2019 “Apocalypse” ruclips.net/video/Wd8P7wTnWJs/видео.html
Note: besides two all in English, all of these, incl BandMaid, have significant English mixed in, keep your ears open 😉
Sorry to overwhelm!
She succeeds once or twice during this song
03:11 Akane making kissey face at Saiki
Is soooo fun to watch your videos!! i can't stop!! So many faces, knowledge, info, fun and beauty in just one channel xD
I love your content.
Seen them 2 times live. One of the best shows to go to
Great to see you reacting to Band Maid!
As other people have mentioned, I would like to watch your take on 'Wonderland'. Great reaction! Keep Rocking!🤘🏼✌🏼
