I was raised by my father and my mother was absent so I didn't learn anything about hair care, make up etc.
The past few days I've been learning about hair care. Thank you for making this video The final results & styling section of the video was helpful because it let me see how that hair cut looks without products and styling as well know what hair tools create which appearances 👍.

took me 30 , did this same thing a few years ago after years of horrible layers on long very thin and fine hair. It not only look fuller now after 5 years, I think my hair actually started growing back and is less damaged since it kind of groups together and protects itself. Eliminating layers was the best thing I ever did, Im just sorry I didnt try it before

TRUE * I have worn this same cut and style for all of my adult life. I have thin blond hair and discovered as a teen that this cut worked great, so I kept it for most of my life with just a couple exceptions when I tried something different. I’m 65 yrs now and it still looks good as I am turning grey. Great FYI for ladies with thin hair! Ty. 👍🏼 🇺🇸 ♥️

This is so great, I almost went back to the salon to do layers!!! Thinking my hair looks boring this way, I have been cutting it the exact same way - same size - for years now.
Thank you so much for reminding me that layers are not a good hairstyle for fine hair!!!

I am a licensed cosmetologist and I used to get scolded for starting haircuts in the front. I haven't worked as a hairstylist for many years, but it is nice to know I wasn't a bad hairstylist for starting in the front. My clients loved my haircuts, but the owner of the salon always mad me feel like I was doing things wrong.

I was 34 years old when I met the hairdresser that confirmed my suspicions that layers just made my ends look whispy, and introduced me to this exact cut (including cutting upwards into it.) It's literally life changing. Another tip I got is a tougher one to put into practice: flipping the orientation of my side part to the other side. She cut my curtain or "side bangs" so that they fall beautifully no matter which side I brush them over to so that was a non- issue. I noticed an even greater change in volume when doing this, of course it's because the hair is being "bent" into the opposite direction than it's used to and lifts up at the roots as it wants to fall back to its favored (usual) side. For me, I swear I look completely different with my hair parted the other direction and I'm not sure I like it, lol, but it's a tip worth mentioning in case others don't have this same issue.

I agree 100% on "flipping" the side part. Additionally, as with most people, my eyes are asymmetrical, the right being larger. So, flip to left, when I have photos taken, want to literally have my best side visible and so on 😉

Yes! Yes! Yes! I have been following this principal for several years with my fine, thin hair and it is a lifesaver. I usually get a monthly short bob but sometimes grow it out to a lob when I'm just too busy to make it to the salon, or have had covid symptoms and needed to cancel. I get so many compliments on my hair now. My stylist has now adopted this approach with her other clients with thinner hair as well.

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 года назад +10

Yes totally! I think that is why I am so in love with this haircut. I can literally do EVERYTHING I did with my long hair but have it actually look thick and not wispy and awful. When I want length (for like a low bun updo or a long ponytail), I just add extensions. I have a video called "Four Days with FINE HAIR" coming out soon showing five different styles over four different days (tutorials on all of them) so stay tuned for that. I am excited for that video.

Omg I have been saying this for years and stylists are always wanting to give you layers!!! You have no idea how many times I have tried to get this haircut and always come out with a graduated bob. So much that I started cutting my own hair in a straight line, it’s not easy but looks so much cuter now, I’ll have to find a stylist and show her this video LOL.

I had *just* watched a video where the hair stylist said that layering gave those with fine hair more volume. I was like "WHAT?!" But, I was gonna try it because he made it look plausible. After finding and watching your video, I'm not wanting to layer my hair anymore. I have really fine hair and am over 50 YO. So, it's back to the "book of styles" for me to hopefully be able to choose a hairstyle I like. I'm going in a couple of days to get my hair highlighted. I have brunette hair with individual natural strands of grey, throughout. Have found a picture of how I'm wanting my hair to look, and, I hope the stylist I'm going to can indeed make my hair look like the picture. Thank you for posting this video - I feel it has saved me a bunch of tears. 😉👍😻

Absolutely!!! it took me YEARS of bad haircuts to actually find someone that suggested cutting it blunt to make it look thicker. The difference is HUGE!
Layers into fine hair - bad idea! They always made it look wispy and lifeless. It only had volume when styled at the salon right after cutting it. And the split ends would be spread aaaalll over my head.
Blunt cuts for the win!!! ☺️☺️☺️

Hi Rebecca..I actually did not believe that your hair was not thick, until I watched this. I don’t work much now as a stylist, but boy do I see a lot of super layered hair. It is crazy. It looks like there is no hair left on the sides especially. It is hard to teach people that the less layers the look is better . My husband and I did hair together . You are absolutely beautiful. Do u do make up too. I used to have to do make up for make overs and weddings. I know more now than way back then, but no one complained so guess I did ok.. I really enjoy your videos. GGG, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to you and the info you put out there!
Fellow fine, frizzy haired gal. Solid 2a/b hair. Unless you have this hair type you have no clue. I’ve been going with wavy/curly, but as you mention in one of your videos, it NEVER looks good on day 2. No matter what method or product.
Also have sad thinning. Won’t go into all of why my hair has rapidly and dramatically thinner (except to say I am dealing with and proactively working on it), but bottom line is I’ve felt so hideous over they past year. Was going with a heavily layered shaggy type cut. Always was a struggle to hide the thinness and always felt bad. Always.
Then I watched your videos on the short blunt bob with no layers and a slight angle towards the front. God blessed me a a new stylist who is of one mind as you and I GOT AN AMAZING CUT! Every day I LOVE MY HAIR NOW.
I wish I could post pics here, but the change is dramatic in a wonderful way. I got mine pretty short, but my hair looks twice a thick, is almost one length now (praise God!), and it’s a pleasure to wash/style now. It looks so chic straight and even looks great curly!!!!
Thank you Gabi for the great content you’re putting out there. God bless you!

You my friend are gorgeous, smart and so on point. I have been told to get layers and always looked like a stringy mess. I am using MD Hair products and my hair is growing out nice. I recently got a stylist tell me to go with stacked bob to get more volume. I drank the Kool aid and hated it. I got a stylist I trust and she trimmed it up to get it closer to blunt, though short it is growing out nicely. I love your hair length and hopefully by year end it will be back to lob. I am going to make my stylist watch this video before the next cut. Thank you Gabi, your videos are made for my hair.

Hi Gabi, I took your advice and got this cut and think I may have written about it to you in the past. I wanted to find out what color or what I would tell a stylist to get a similar color to yours in this video. I watched your hair color video when you had yours very long and dark and through the steps you gave know I am a warm tone brown. I always use dye from a box (affordability). but this time went to a beauty supply shop instead of the drugstore to pick a color. I purchased one that came out dark with no dimension. I picked a neutral (before I watched your video) and it was simply too dark and flat. I was meeting old friends today and panicked but saw a video from another influencer who suggested part developer and part baking soda. Lo and behold it worked like a charm! I rinsed with a clarifying wash shampoo then deep conditioner. My hair is perfect. It was indeed a happy accident and I cannot stop looking at my hair with dimension and color...looks like a salon...crazy! To avoid this again, was just wondering if you could give any tips. The last drugstore bottle I did came out very red and it was a dark brown as well. The gray growing out with the brassy red tones just looked awful-that's why I thought I'd go to the beauty supply and thus ended with this happy accident. Anyway, LOVE your content as always, just wondering if I do go to a pro, what to tell them to get the nice caramel highlights you have. If you think they'll know, please disregard, but thought I'd ask anyway. You are the best and thanks for all of your amazing content!

Nice to have this confirmed. I was always told to add layers to my "thick unruly" hair to make it more manageable and it always looked terrible. They even used to go in with thinning shears on my hair. I got the idea from Milabu about 2 years ago to have zero layers when I watched her vlog of her haircut. I actually say to the hairdresser - no layers, not a single one just to make sure. There are some good tips here - I didn't quite follow the bit where she cut up into the hair. Oh can you also do a tutorial on your French braid - I am hopeless at them!

I had my hair cut 10 days ago. I chopped off 20cm. After it has been damaged in April with highlights that the stylist went overboard with, too much blonde and too light. I now want to transition back to my dark/medium brown. The haircut isn't great (also she has left one side shirted than the other) but the length is doing good for the overall look of my hair as it looks fuller and thicker. And my hair is super fine. It's a long bob/medium length . Good advice !!

Hi Gabi, I watched your previous video about this haircut a couple of months ago and it was the best advice I have ever gotten for my fine thin hair!!! I immediately cut it myself, and though I'm not a hairdresser and it was pretty rough, it is the best hair cut I've ever had. I am almost 53, and spent my whole life underwhelmed by any professional cut I've ever had.... always with the layers they said I needed!! I feel 39 and fabulous with this cut, even just rolling out of bed on day 3 hair. Thank you so much!!! I do have an issue I am looking for help with, my part is very long... I generally wear a center part but it goes off to the side down the back of my head and it is so tricky to hide. Would so appreciate any advice on this!🙂

That is amazing to read Christina! This cut was honestly life changing for me too. It seems so vain to say that, but a great cut can make you feel like a totally different person! I am so glad that you have had that experience with it as well. As for the part situation, do you blow out your hair? I use a blow out brush to give myself a lot of volume at the crown of my head. I also often use velcro rollers. Have you tried that before? You need to control the hair from the wet stage to offset that long part that is naturally happening because of your growth pattern. I made a video tutorial about how I blow dry my hair and get a lot of volume. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/7cOQm4f47g4/видео.html

This cut looks amazing on you! I too have fine hair (but a lot of it, so I'm told) and, for the majority of my life, hairstylists have recommended layers to add volume. I was never happy with the wispy bottom layer that flew out when I walked (ugh!). I'm slowly getting my cut to grow out to one length, just meeting at the shoulder, and now the right side constantly flips out even though I use my styling tool exactly the same way on both sides. My stylist said it was because I had less hair on that side. Hmmm. Any suggestions? P.S. "Hi" from western Canada!

Gabi, you are very talented in styling your hair. I'm very intrigued to learn them even though after bilateral carpal tunnel surgeries left my left hand strength much weaker which often keeps using the curling iron less balanced looking. I just keep telling myself "It's only hair" but oh how I long to have your know-how! TY for sharing! Maybe I'll get the zero layers long bob cut next time. (I will wash my fresh cut hair tonight and get to style it myself to see what it's really like. I live that my stylist friend's curls hold so well compared to how mine usually turn out. I know it's lots of different products. I avoid gluten containing ones. 🤔)

I so agree with what you said. I have a similar issue. When I had layers I hated how thin my hair looked. Then I asked my hairdresser to cut it one length for me and it made much more difference and I have the volume illusion that you mentioned. It even feels healthier and less hair falls off than when I had layers.
The only difference from your hairstyle is that I left mine a little taller. I feel that due to my obesity, the length gives an illusion of slimming my face.

*I feel that due to my obesity, the length gives an illusion of slimming my face* Agree. Why I hesitate on getting a chin length bob. With my heavy body, I'd look like a bowling pin. Having longer hair that I can style and curl, makes me fondly believe I'm balancing out my frame as much as possible.

Aw, I had a blunt cut and it looked amazing on my thin hair. Then my hair grew and I got a few long layers. And the other week I got even more layers in my curly/wavy thin hair and the hair stylist cut a very short layer in (I didn’t object, but now I remember after I saw your video). I don’t like the super short layer. I’m going to grow it all out and have one length, at collar bone length. Just came across your channel and saw your video about face shapes and body shape… and I’m petite but curvy, so I find that I don’t quite like bobs, but more longer wavy hair about collar bone length. Thanks for your videos and helping me think of what I like best. 🥰💕

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 года назад +1

If you’re petite, curvy and have curly/wavy hair, try a cut that sits about an inch or two below the collar bone and has some long layers. The long layers will help a lot with curl. If your face is rounder, opt out of short face framing layers and keep it longer at the front. If it’s not round you can face frame so the curls dance around your face. 😘

@@GlamGirlGabi thanks so much for your tips. My face is a long oval… I think that’s oblong? I find I like a long fringe… I think it’s called a long curtain bang? Gaby, I love your channel. I took your advice and I got the short bob (longer in the front haircut) for the summer. I loved the cut and agree that it helped make my hair look fuller. I am ready to start gradually growing it out to a blunt bob. But how do I tell my stylist to cut the front first? She has been doing hair for 20+ years, and worked for many years in NYC. How do you tell a professional that you know better? Seems like a way to ruin a relationship with an otherwise competent stylist. I have lived a lot of places and have had at least a dozen stylists over the years, and none of them cut the sides/front first.

    • @GlamGirlGabi

Hey Kim! Yay!! I’m so happy you loved your summer hair! If you’re happy with how she cuts the hair and the front and back are always even, I wouldn’t tell her to cut the front first. This way that Rebeccah does it works for her but every stylist is an artist who creates in their own way. If she’s giving you great haircuts that you love, don’t fix what isn’t broken. ❤️

I'm in that awkward in between phase and keep some of it longer so I can wear it up in summer while the rest catches up. I have "Lob" on my wish list for 51st birthday in August!! Question: - My layers are still growing out. Can we get the basic shape of this cut even before ALL the layers have grown out? Or is it better to wait until it's all able to be one length? I still wear my hair naturally wavy and I actually like the width around my face since I have a long thin face but most people don't love that. There's no harm in trying it and if you don't love it, when you go for your next cut, you can layer it again.

I watched one of your earlier videos about the cut for fine hair--and I immediately talked to my stylist about just giving me a blunt cut all around. But then she started to pull the hair out and trim the ends--which basically resulted in NOT a blunt cut. OK, so I chalked it up to a failure to communicate. The next time, I was very specific about only cutting the bottom. That seemed to do the trick. However, I usually just let my natural curls air dry so I've just been cutting it myself since any unevenness melts away in my curls.
