I’m not a hair stylist but I did my mothers hair twice a week until she passed away in her 80’s this is exactly how I did her hair and it is such a wonderful memory. I did find I had Velcro rollers with metal inside and she had such thick hair I found those worked better on her than the ones with only plastic. But letting them cool completely is really key! Thank you for this video. You are awesome! 🎉

OMG, I was wondering why Velcro rollers did not work for me!! Heat is the key. I was ready to give up and put these rollers in the trash. I actually might try this today. To keep the style longer cool hair completely after you heat them up. I get my hair really hot, sometimes I will use a diffuser, then cool them. Don't take them out while hair to still warm.

I had to smile when I came across this. I’ve been using these for over 30 years. You are wrong about not being able to get curls from Velcro rollers. There is a method to doing that. Everyone has wanted to know how I do my hair over the years. It has bouncy volume , curls, and spirals that last for multiple days. Everything done before really does become new again eventually. I just bought but haven’t used them yet. I can now try with greater confidence. I was relieved when you gave the alternative tip to dry the hair completely before placing the rollers then reheat. Critical for me as I am clumsy with a blow dryer and round brush! I generally dry my hair upside down and touch up with an iron if needed. The mohawk placement and how to bring the hair section forward before rolling the back is also helpful. I’m looking forward to giving this a try!

I’m that 90’s chick - still rolling that 90’s & early 2000’s vibe - somethings never change. Velcro rollers I think are best as a roller set after you have already curled the hair so I use mine after I use a curling iron. So by the time the heat has dried the curl sets around the roller it’s just a nice way to let that curl cool down if that makes sense so you can roll it up in the Velcro rollers do your make up by that time the curl has cooled. Obviously some people use them as regular hair rollers but I think that this is how their best intended to be used

Thank you Gabi for your tips on velcro rollers and using the diffuser to apply heat. I just ordered my rollers, extra clips and a dryer with a diffuser. I'm growing out my hair and although it's not thin and I have a lot of hair, I need to find someway to tame it down and control frizz. It's not as long as yours is yet, but it's getting there. My hair is wavy and tends to frizz in spring and summer when the humidity is high. I will try your tips and hope they work. I love your videos that are full of great hair advice and tips. Used to have an angled bob in the 90s. Would always put small braids in the front so it wouldn’t hang in my eyes but to give it volume used Velcro curlers often. They will rip the living heck out of your hair. I have probably lost two full scalps of hair by velcro rollers. It's the only thing I've used in years, but I've paid for it by loss of hair. I suggest you use them when you really really need body because you are going to lose hair everytime you use them and it adds up over the years.

Now, I wish I still had them, as my hair has changed. Finer. Thinner. It has always been stick-straight. Now I am considering growing my hair out a bit, so have been considering getting another set. Thank you so much for your videos! They are so helpful.. . I have fine thin hair with a wavy curl in it .. if I don’t blow dry my hair it gets kinky, frizzy and flat… I figured out a long time ago that layering my hair didn’t do it any good cause it left the ends of my hair very thin so I quit layering my hair… I can get plenty of volume on top of my head to make it look thicker but the ends of my hair you can’t get it to look thicker unless it’s a blunt cut… so I took your advice, I went and got the blunt bob.. and I just now got my Velcro rollers which I’m going try soon.. next is getting a good hairdryer and hairdryer brush 😊 so thank you so much.. I love trying new hairstyles.. so thank for the tips 😊

Just a disclaimer, I am wearing a wig in my photo that I took years ago. That being said, I was cursed with thin and fine hair. In my 30s I starting using velcro rollers and this cool heat cap you warm up in the microwave. This at least gave me a little lift. Then in 2003 when I was 37, I went to a new hairdresser who said my hair looked "dated" and she had an idea. I agreed to her installing at least 50 hair extensions that were crimped with a bead. The hair was a perfect match. It wasn't the most comfortable but my hair was at least 6" longer and I could make a pony tail that was thick! The blend was perfect and it made me feel SO GOOD to have so much hair! Sadly in about two weeks, the extension started to fall out with my natural hair with it. Nobody every discussed "maintenance". I got so frustrated I ended up cutting the rest out. I will try going back to the rollers. *I wished I knew a way to clean them from all the hair that gets stuck* Because my hair is so microscopically fine, almost translucent, they get stuck in the roller and for someone with ocd, I wont use them like that.

Hi Gabi, I have tied Velcro rollers many times without good results. What works much better consistently is a large round BRISTLE brush barrel that I leave in and allow to cool. The brush barrel offers a center that heats up which the Velcro does not. It’s a game changer and always so disappointed when I see you tube influencers touting Velcro when the others work 300% better!

I have long thick hair and try to avoid heat styling as much as possible - I set my hair on the 2.5" velcro rollers when wet and let it dry that way - I get great results with no damage. I've got a lot of hair, so it takes several hours to dry (in the winter I'll jump start it a bit by running the blow dryer over it), but I can usually get by with doing this once a week.

I will continue to try the velcro rollers and hope that I don't make the thinning even worse. It's so hard to look at myself and the state of my hair these days...such a far cry from how it used to look it makes me sad ! Your technique for rolling and removing the curlers may help with some of my issues... I can only HOPE!! I would love to color my hair again like I did a few years ago but I am so afraid it will damage what hair I have left and make things even worse. I used to have my hair lightly highlighted with some low lights also but I haven't done it in 2 years and am so scared to do it ....now I just live with the little bit of grey that I have and try to deal with making my hair look less thin and flat. Thanks again for making this video. I have enjoyed watching your channel !!

Since I clip them anyway I just use plastic rollers. That way the Velcro does not pull my hair out.

I bought Velcro rollers because I'm too lazy to style my hair, I used them all the time in the late nineties/ early 2000's. I had no idea they were back in fashion. 🤷‍♀️

Your tips for putting them in/out are also very helpful. I think I've been doing what you said about making them too tight as well as then squishing them down when rolled. Tnx so much for this video. ❤️

Yup it’s kind of human nature to do that isn’t it? But the more you squish into the Velcro, the harder it will be to release the hair. Thanks for watching beauty!

Yeah I have used Velcro rollers for lift and volume but for curl you need a diffuser for that then finish of with a volume dust powder works amazing body

You have the all-one-length hair length I’ve been considering. My hair is longer about 3-4 inches past my shoulders. Can you talk about the pros and cons of short vs long? Another good video today 😄

If you use them with your hair wet and let it dry like wash your hair Saturday morning and just leave them all day, take out in late afternoon. She gave great tip of gently unroll from roots and don’t be inpatient jerking them out of your bed. If too much curl.. then do dry with larger ones and some spray. The same with smooth rollers. I always used Bedhead because it really holds. Back in the 80s when it was the Dallas show on and you back brushed the sides up like you had pretty combs - the Bedhead spray would hold it without combs and all night partying. Then let it dry totally and take down. Flip your head over and work fingers through and flip back and leave alone.
They were meant to be used for curl etc… their original purpose in the 60-70s was to curl your hair without clips. I used 1 clip per roller and put a silky sleep cap so the hair doesn’t get snagged up.
I don’t understand the issue with people saying their hair gets all caught up with hot rollers. Maybe newer sets and the way they are made is the issue. Complain to manufacturer and ask for modification to the design. Mine were so silky ceramic that they just slid out sometimes before ready..had to use two clips as I was trying to get dressed and getting hose on etc. I had two sets with small and medium, and another with medium and large and mixed them as needed for my hair length and cut. My hair is fine and I’m late seventies. My hair was fine but very thick and depending on cut which could be long slight layers or layers all over starting at the crown and pretty far down or medium short with layers all over. Never had tangling or ripping out hair nor any friends having issues either with this.
That’s something folks would certainly not want to happen. It’s been years since I got a new set. My hair has gotten wavier as I have aged so if cut well, the natural wave and curls have just sprung up more like beachy wave so I just wash, let it dry and work some gel through it for a little separation and that’s it. Or I use my hot curler with teeth that I get hot, roll on regular rollers and just leave until time to get dressed. Sometimes I just wash before bed, let dry over night and use my hot curler with teeth in the morning so it’s not as much time consuming and it’s not quite so slippery the next day whenever I style it a bit. But I use the INFINITIPRO BY CONAIR Tourmaline Ceramic Hot Curl Brush, 1-Inch with a long barrel and it’s either the 1” or the the larger 1 1/2. I have had mine for a number of years. It has settings way up to like 360F. But I never use it over the lowest 195-200 F I think. Just keep it at what it comes on to. It’s called a brush.. but it’s not a brush with bristles like some have or like a hair brush. It’s hard bristles 1 set larger than the other with the middle red ones smaller. Slides nicely. If I was more flexible, I would do the curl. Maybe a little hotter, take each one down, wrap around fingers and pin the hair, let it completely cool, or even use smooth rollers. But with shoulder issues and hair problems.. too difficult these days.
How many ladies remember the soup cans (Campbell’s soup, or tomato paste cans) to roll our hair in the 70s. We used a night cap pulled tight to hold the cans in - only one end to pin but some of us got our fathers, etc to cut the opposite end removed and could pin on both ends. Couldn’t sleep on those. We sure went to a lot of trouble. I remember when we went back to really old days back like they did late 1800s where they used old fabric strips which is what we went back to rolling our hair in and tied them. Gosh it was a pain and we looked silly- much better when they came out with the same idea but padded and Velcro closure what 1980s. Those were also great with short layered hair. Harder with long hair. Gave you curls with no permanent solution. I guess they were our first beach waves before it became the rage.

I want to add also use smaller rollers to let it dry all day or to sleep in - but those smaller rollers give a tighter curl, but when you took it down, put the make on , dressed and by the time you got where you were going , it had relaxed and was where you wanted it. As opposed to great big one and when you got where you were going, it was like just lying there better than if you hadn’t done anything, but the lift, volume, bend etc was gone. I guess young women today don’t want to really to go through what we usually went through, ie sleeping with head of rollers, any kind. I loved hot rollers of multiple sizes, they worked fast but then somewhere they started getting so hot. I have a styling curler now that’s 390-400F. That’s crazy, I almost never use it. If my hair has any pieces of damp from where I dried - it sizzles. Oh my gosh. I think when I finally get it cut, because the curlers spring up so much now - will cut in light layered bob, just long enough to clip up. But easy to grow out so don’t have be in beauty shop every 3-4 weeks, and also not so long, it kills my shoulders to get it up.
I would like some ideas on putting it but so it doesn’t hurt the shoulder. Special clips that will stay in fine slippery hair. Now that it’s so long, also at waist line, just can’t do anything. And when it comes down , it looks I’m the old washer woman with it just straight down, hang limp because it’s all one length. Just terrible.

I love your video. Valcro rollers have been around for decades. It seems like it takes decade to get on my hair. I have very fine hair and it gets tangled With those rollers I have tried over and over and over. But your video is great either way. I just bought some magnetic rollers. Same concept no Velcro And they clip in place. But I love the whole beautiful full hair trend it is fantastic.

Yay! I’m so glad that this video came at a good time for you. Remember - Roll them in an orderly way, don’t make the section too big, and don’t squish the hair into the Velcro too much. That will help you out a lot.
