A amazing - non Valve related - game example of Vulkan difference, is Doom 2016 (not Eternal but will explain why). Doom 2016 original runs on DirectX and Vulkan (i think there is also OpenGL option but do not remember that exacly) - you just change your API in the settings and thats it. ID Software - just as Valve - care more about opensource programs and overall access for the user, thats why they wanted to give people a option to try if there are any differences in game if you run different API. And most of the time, people were running this game in Vulkan. Not only the performance was better on even weaker hardware, you also had literaly no lose in the overall game quality. Vulkan went so good that in their Sequel - Doom Eternal - they literaly ditched all other API and just decided to go with nothing but Vulkan. And look what it gave - you can run Doom Eternal even on cards from 2015, without any issue, and not being forced to play on minimal settings. Vulkan is literaly "the guy she told you not to worry about" when you compare it to DirectX
Hi, thanks for you explanation but the only issue with vulkan is the support, because lot of the gpu's are not suppported by vulkan only the '"gamer" specific ones. for example the NVIDIA GeForce 610M does not support vulkan, but id does support DirectX even up to 12 which makes me question why is vulkan unsupported (my knowledge about computers are not great, just the bare minimum so i am not saying that vulkan is bad, i'm just curious. i want to use linux in the future but i don't want to buy a specific setup just to use it.)
There should be a vulkan alternative for low end hardware as well (like DirectX 9, and OpenGL is slower so...) i think, but this sounds like impossible to make or i don't know.
I've heard that average FPS in vulkan seems to be a bit higher, but it performs worse in resource-intensive scenarios, for example during a horde and a lot of graphical effects. basically you should choose the API depending on your issues with the game, it will have different results depending on the hardware u use it was mostly released for the sake of Linux users, given the game's age, the perfromance difference will be miniscule even on pretty old hardware. the reason for the stuttering on the first time playing is it generating a cache. it happens every time a new thing gets loaded/rendered and gets cached for later faster loading. im pretty sure it'll reset when updating graphics drivers so you'll get the stuttering again after that, but smooth gameplay once its generated everything.
Indeed. If they want good performance on Linux, they need to run as many games as possible on Vulkan since OpenGL performance is quite poor compared to DirectX.
@@timpedra they probably want to refocus on Steam OS and Steam Machines. Vulkan is what pushing Linux gaming to the realm of possibility. This could be the testing ground for future games on their own machines.
It does run alot better, But the only downer is that you cannot run in fullscreen, For me it goes nuts, But all other options you can tinker with, And there is a little screen tearing with or without v-sync, I use x2 buffering, But also if you type " fps_max 0 " in the console, It will unluck the framerate output your pc can give out, For me it was 500, Varying. The game felt slow somehow despite the high framerate in dx9 on my 4070 gtx, So glad i watched this video, Great stuff ! 😉 Not sure how fullscreen not working for me though !
The first launch being stuttery when running the Vulkan version is pretty normal for most games. The game needs to build a cache in order for it to run properly, which is why it only stutters on your first run.
@David TPHK yeah that's what i thought but still it's literally a brightness option so it should brighten your game but other than that i have no other problem with the update

Well thats a thing about vulkan, im not sure if its a built in requirement, but LOTS of things that run vulkan stutter the first time you run the game. And what that IS is shader compilation and caching, same thing happens with the steam deck as a rule, every first time playing a game it has to recompile the shaders from windows to linux and such.
I've been using vulkan for a couple days, and it increased my fps, but i've been getting some stutering, not as much as the first time i tried it, but still
Well..I still get severe stutters when using vulkan on my Windows 10 installation. If I use any linux distro for that matter..the stuttering it's just not there. WHY THO? Why with vulkan it runs like crap on windows, but on linux everything is all right? I don't get that..
I'd like to point out that I do not believe that the stuttering was an "issue" it simply happens whenever a source game is launched for the first time or the first time after a long while of not being played. Its stutters because the source engine is re caching all of its assets to ensure smooth gameplay next time. This is definitely bound to happen after an API change. Thanks for coming to my ted talk
It's a shame they just used the DXVK implementation as opposed to a full conversion to Vulkan, though to be fair that would likely take a massive rewrite of their rendering system. The hitching is definitely down to Vulkan processing the DirectX shaders, usually on linux it will take some time before it starts the game to process these shaders beforehand which usually comes up as a "processing shaders" box on startup, I'd recommend not skipping this as it'll make the game run much smoother.
I love the bug fixes and engine quality of life improvements that TLS update team has been doing, but most of the content added is mediocre. The survival maps were pretty much all they were supposed to do, but the rest was after Valve allowed them to work on more, yet they didn't have enough time. This is very evident with the poorly made TLS campaign, which I think shouldn't have been added due to this lack of time. The survival map would have been fine. Also a small gripe I have with it is the changes to how survival works, causing old records to be pretty much impossible now.

That shouldn’t be a hardware related issue. I’d try reinstalling Steam if it’s doing it for all games. If it’s just for L4D2, then like the other comments said I’d verify integrity first. If none of the above works then I’d suggest taking a look into some troubleshooting towards the internet side of the fence. Instabilities in your connection perhaps?
Unfortunately, the new update keeps crashing my game. I have already verified integrity of files Updated every driver Removed all custom mods Reinstalled the game 4 times 🙂

If it would look different, that would be a bug. APIs are a communication layer so to say, if API changed the way a game looks, then it means the communication is wrong.
@@RawbLV not necessarily. Because they are so different, things would look slightly different. It might be because of DXVK and not a true Vulkan renderer.
@@Wheagg Games issue commands telling how the output should look; APIs must deliver the same result or else they're useless. This is how rendering looks, and it should be no surprise that games running DirectX, OpenGL and Vulkan look all the same.
@@RawbLV Have you not seen how different HL2 is in DX6? It's a completely different look without all the effects, but it's still accurate. Is DX9 "wrong"?
Performance for me is basically irrelevant since I run the game capped at 162fps anyways, but Vulkan may have been causing my crashing at the end of certain chapters. Not sure though because I just swapped around a lot of mods. Yep after playing a couple campaigns I haven't had a single crash at the end of any chapters since disabling Vulkan. It's definitely causing them.
Another caveat: You cannot run the game in exclusive fullscreen. If you attempt to do so the viewport will go completely bonkers (the game itself still running fine in the background).
Yeah ever since The Last Stand update, L4D2s has been updated like crazy (relatively) Before, only rare bug fixes every like 6 months or so - TF2 does not know that kind of update dearth

I've been using vulkan for a couple days, and it increased my fps, but i've been getting some stutering, not as much as the first time i tried it, but still
Possible Vram limitations, in my PC vulkan uses at least 3x the Vram directX9 uses. I get a lot of stuttering and i thinks this is the cause.
@@Pertoj well that sucks because I only have 2 gigs of vram
This update has made it that my left4dead2 is now slow even though before it was fine
So, Vulkan exist just for Pokemon gameplay with Tanks?
And how i do this? cuz when i put the dxvk the game won't launch and if i write -vulkan the game won't launch either
lmao that tank was leaving the gym all sweaty and was like: oh hey sup
Aside from the vulkan update as anyone else survivors not move their eyes? I only have one entire mod and that is mario for ellis he could move his eyes but coach nick and rochelle dont move their eyes towards me anymore so as mario's
Nice shiny tank encounter. How many resets did it take?
They need to fix add ons cloud saving issue. I don't wanna redownloading all of my add ons again because this issue
One more thing, if you run Vulkan API, Discord overlay may not appear at all.
i thought you were talking about m61 vulcan
I was wondering could you possibly help me ever since the steam update my computer doesn’t let me play with ppl online is that something i can fix or maybe my computer is just ass? Lol
Verify the game
verify the files maybe
That shouldn’t be a hardware related issue. I’d try reinstalling Steam if it’s doing it for all games. If it’s just for L4D2, then like the other comments said I’d verify integrity first.
If none of the above works then I’d suggest taking a look into some troubleshooting towards the internet side of the fence. Instabilities in your connection perhaps?
How to fix crashing when i turn on shaders to high
it doesn't let me in when I put vulkan
Unfortunately, the new update keeps crashing my game.
I have already verified integrity of files
Updated every driver
Removed all custom mods
Reinstalled the game 4 times
🙂
make a steam ticket, worst case scenario may have to buy a portable drive and try it on there. could even use a thumbstick lol
@@OutdoorBlues Thanks, gonna do that. I actually installed it on a portable drive. Only this update started to crash a lot. 😔
I HOPE TF2 GETS VULCAN.
I READ SOMEWHERE THAT VALVE IS WORKING ON IT BUT WHO KNOWS IF THE PROJECT IS STILL GOING ON OR CANCELLED.

@@s4videos you actually noticed this and YT didnt notify me, you sapped my notifs, didnt you
I cannot stand playing games on anything below 110° this feels like zooming.
Imagine if irl you wouldn't have almost 180° vision (yes, it's blurry on the sides)
i dont understand the launch options, whenever i boot up l4d2 it sometimes says that i have -insecure as my launch option despite me not putting anything into it
It's a common issue, you can search for it on the web
check your autoexec.cfg
vulkan puts less stress on CPU but more on GPU.
Hey can you review Raymond's custom mutions
but now the FOV changer reset every time you restart game
and also Vulkan API is suppose to utilize more threads on your CPU ect. Basically make your game run abit more and more multi-threaded
Go to autoexec.txt in ur program files
Type the command “fov_desired” without quotes and u can put any number u like
how do I enable openGl?
still no 64 bit version for mac :(
Hey, everybody
DOMMMMM here
How can I find the wallpaper similar to yours? It is nice
I get all my wallpapers from interfacelift.com It's a great site but strangely hasn't been updated in years. If you want that specific wallpaper I'll upload it, here: i.imgur.com/VSsXGwn.jpg
hey how can i update mine?
Vulkan made my performance fly...
Woah, FOV?? I cant find this. Do I need to update my game manually? Or am I blind and cant find it?
It's in multiplayer settings, not video settings.
The command is fov_desired, if you wish to do it that way. I'm so happy they unlocked this cvar. Now we don't need that silly plugin that unlocks cl_fov for -insecure mode.
Thank you babe newell.
and at the cost i am forced to play with only a medium shader- if i use the game with high or very high it dies-
Does anyone know how to remove Vulcan mode ?
U remove “-Vulcan” on ur launch options
Considering how different Vulkan is, I would think that the game would look different on each, but no...
@@Wheagg Because DX6 is ancient and the game was aimed at higher DX level (don't know which exactly, perhaps it was DX9).
Wow, just to think, this was for the steam deck.
how to download?
Vulkan isn't a big deal on windows but it is on linux. Also the studdering happens because it is recompiling shaders.
On my windows 10 installation it doesn't recompile shit :D. The game will stutter everytime when I try vulkan XD. But on linux everything seems fine.
You should've compared it against OpenGL too, that andn Vulkan are the only apis in Linux
HOW DO YOU SOUND SO MUCH LIKE GERMANPETER
this person sounds like the Nardwuar of video games
How do i download it?

@@Katana2097 No shit!?
THERES AN FPS SLIDER???????
Field of view slider.
It was added in the following update, is now at they multiplayer settings, which I personally don’t like
Last Stand update and this current update destroyed my friend's server. Not so impressive coming from us.
I really hate Update, every time Crash Game -_-
Another caveat: You cannot run the game in exclusive fullscreen. If you attempt to do so the viewport will go completely bonkers (the game itself still running fine in the background).
I wish i can play l4d2 with you.
tf2 gets wayyy more love
Yeah ever since The Last Stand update, L4D2s has been updated like crazy (relatively)
Before, only rare bug fixes every like 6 months or so - TF2 does not know that kind of update dearth
Nice

@@recruit8921 ah a fellow crime man
So...
If it behaves basically the same...
What is the point of it? I seriously don’t get it. Where is the benefit here?
primarily macos/linux, vulkan performs better than openGL does by a large margin, though apparently most people are saying this is a vulkan on top of dx9 wrapper instead of a true vulkan implementation. it would've been better to see how l4d2 on vulkan compares to l4d2 on openGL on a mac/linux machine
vulkan can be a high perfomance boost in more modern gpus
@@winternightst7001 Yeah, but...
Modern gpus wouldnt exactly struggle to run L4D2 in the first place though?
@@flariz4824 yeah idk why they added vulkan, kinda pointless, but its optional so it isnt really a problem
some people said vulkan given more consisten framerate
i don’t see any reason to hate more options like this, as you can still using old directx anyway
man why did they stop updating the stuff on xboxs the last update they did was the cold stream on that's not even canon
