Thank you for sharing! The neighborhood kids joined resources back in the mid sixties and put a 12hp Buckener on a 6 ft aluminum John boat rated for a.3.5 hp. Had to put a 2x4 on the transom to get it clamped on! What fun that was!! Survived just fine without cell phones and ipads.
That old 1947 motor still has some push in it, even back then Mercury ruled the outboard world and their sound was all Mercury. Id hope after the war guys who had ptsd got out on the water and let it melt away, for a couple of hours at least. Theres nothing more stress relieving and smile inducing than being on the water zipping around and being splashed with water and the sun.
@@GearHeadJPthey are mine was converted to phelon ignition only problem is no filter in the gas line clogs and leaks gas going to fix that this weekend 🎉
Based on your videos and the Wikipedia on Mercury and how these were the first ever made, I just picked up one for $40. It's missing the lower cover however and the tank has a small dent, but otherwise appears complete. I hope to get it back into running shape this summer, hopefully as nice as your example, which appears to run on water a raped ape.
I’m gonna try this I picked up another KE7 and have some carb parts laying around. Someone made a crappy buttery in the carb so I replaced it and used a newer stainless shaft it runs good little rough I’m going to replace the points in it. I just put new coils in my kg7 and ordered another set off eBay before they aren’t available anymore (bendix). KE7 seems lighter than the KG7 too… going to take them Out tomorrow pumped!
Mercury was notorious for understating thier horsepower. Thats one clean engine had one on a 12 foot orange sea king (Montgomery Ward) aluminum boat. Really zipped through water also had to reinforce transom was rated for 12 Engine was too strong a2x4 planed down with a piece of angle iron across whole transom you could put a 20 hp on reinforced transome my first boat and uncle who believed he could weld anything back then was difficult to weld aluminum there was no rug and migs just arc welders but he did he was that damn good! He sent out a lifetime guarantee on his work regarding never had a weld broken or cracked. He never had to go back and repair a weld. Best warranty he said he could give. He had names of customers you could call on for reference. He often said best advertising are previous customers.

That sounds like good clean fun to me!

I couldn’t agree more!
Looks like it just came out of the box. Beauty.
Thank you! It took a little work to get it that way. ;)
Wow! What a gorgeous motor!! Nice job!!! And it FLYS!
Thank you. It’s a joy to use.
The Lightning Engine was certainly well named!
They were such revolutionary engines in the industry.
I picked up a KE7 from a club member, it’s a hoot to drive and I think it’s an inch higher in the water then the rest and it’s not too heavy!
They are such great runners. Enjoy!

I stuffed a piece of wire screen in the tank fitting hope it stops clogging yes I noticed that…😂mine was converted to phelon too!
If it works it works!
@@GearHeadJPtook it out this weekend seems to work. Might opt for an inline filter. Great motors!
Have one also, needs maintenance, fuel filter and tubing for gas
@user-vq2cx4cw7e Historically significant engine. Get yours going!
I like it!

Great engine. Not the first Mercurys, but definitely the ones that caught the industry’s attention. Enjoy yours!
Did u use a pressurized top for the carb or just a straight line to the carb from the fuel supply?
A top for the pressure system and I had to trim the filter cover and center post to clear throttle lever.

@Rlip awesome…enjoy!
Fabulous
@davidmann4533 the one that put Mercury on the map for good!
Another guy has a KG7 Super 10 and he says that motor was way under rated in HP by Mercury.
Indeed they were.

Little rocket, how fast 30? My 9.9 Johnson 2 stroke does bout 23
28 so far, but I still have more prop work to do.
I HAVE ONE JUST LIKE IT
@dskofich Cool, run it!
