- The Corolla Cross Hybrid is Toyota newest all new SUV. On the outside you will find a 2-tone paint scheme, 18in wheels, and sunroof. On the inside there is a familiar Corolla style layout. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 paired with (3) electric motors and mated to a CVT. Is the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid a better SUV than a RAV4 Hybrid?

I wouldn't buy a car that doesn't have a spare tire. I had a flat at 1am on the highway and called AAA. They were going to take over 90 minutes to get to me, so I just went out, pulled the spare and tossed it on myself in about 10 minutes. Best part about the RAV4 is its full-sized spare.
My thoughts exactly , I liked it until he said no spare tire
Thanks for commenting on this. I was considering this, but I, too, would like the safety margin from having a spare tire.
@@robertlane306On the other hand, nothing stopping an owner from buying their own spare tire. You just won't have a cubby hole for it and will always have to fit your cargo around it. And carry a jack.
cant you just buy another tire that fit the size ? so ur gona tell me u will buy a ip10 over an ip 13 just because of a power bank freebie?
Feeling bummed out the whole day but raitis rides cheered me up thank you Joe 🙏🏻 that’s a beautiful cross I dig it
I saw another video of this couple that owns the corolla cross hybrid XSE and they're are very happy with the gas mileage. The warranty that Toyota offers for the hybrids is fantastic! This is definitely my top pick for a new car. Thanks for reviewing this car again. I always enjoy your reviews Joe.
Great review! Thanks for sharing your pointers.
You are 100 percent the best reviewer. Always goes through everything!
My favorite parts you do is spec explications and the cargo room!!
Toyota owns the Hybrid Market.
Overpriced.......enough said.
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8Actually It's not overpriced if you buy for MSRP. Some dealers are selling for over price due to the high demand and low supply.
They always have. Theyre also one of the few sensible car makers out there. Toyota said no to an EV society and instead proposed going hybrid for the foreseeable future. Government bodies are not having that of course.
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 Can’t build enough for demand. Enough said.
No Toyota is overpriced in this market. Considering years of trouble free driving.
I got an SE back in November to replace my old 2012 Rav4. The new Rav4 was bigger than what I needed, and this was closer in size to my old one. I've been really happy with it so far.
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
Amazing review Joe.
I’ve actually not seen the Corolla Cross before! I’m quite interested into a Toyota like this
Yeah I'm going to get one. This solidifies it. Thanks for the info.
I just got mine a month ago, you will love it!
I would have,but... no spare? I'm old, don't really like having to adjust to all this new tech but-- no spare tire or temp??
I’m buy Corolla Cross year and half ago gas powered and for price difference between gas and hybrid I made good choice for gas powered. Nice review like always 👍🥂
I owned a 2021 rav4 xse for 1 year and 14k miles. I had every option on it, ended up selling it for $5k more than what I paid for it. I didn't need to sell it, but when I had the opportunity to make money, of course I wasn't going to turn that down. Also, I wanted something with more engine power (the rav4 hybrid isn't bad, I just wanted more), ventilated seats (only heated in rav4 xse, have to go to limited for ventilated), better sound system (I had the jbl, which wasn't bad..I just wanted more), 360 degree camera (available now, but wasn't for 2021 at least not with an xse), and a better heated steering wheel (mine had one, but only the sides were heated- not the whole thing). I ended up ordered a 2023 xse with every option, and was told it should take 2 - 3 months to come in. After 5 months I ended up buying a 2023 santa fe limited that had all the features I wanted, but I had planned on selling it when the rav4 came in. The rav4 came in and I decided I liked the santa fe better lol. Only thing that was better on the rav4 was the fuel economy (I got 45mpg all day every day with no change to my 'agresssive' driving style) and the resale value.
I test drove a corolla cross hybrid.. not much difference between it and a rav4 hybrid.
Getting the Santa FE may become your biggest regret. Several owners are crying here in my area because as we speak
ARE YOU WRITING A NOVEL? 😢
Hyundai engines explode
Love your vids!!! At work we still have calculators cus we can't use phones on the floor 😂
I just purchased the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid SE in Barcelona red! And I love it!🎉
❤ the black accents
❤ infotainment system
❤ the comfortable seats and interior design
❤ not having to pay a fortune at the pump!
And yes, I love pretzels with mustard! 🥨
Looking at the XSE trim as I will be leasing and should be able to get a better deal with top trim (for leasing).
@Steve_in_NJ ahhhh option to buy with toyota. your a financially smart guy!
I bought the 2024 cross hybrid SE and I love it. I don’t need all the fancy stuff and the gas mileage is great. I test drove Mazda,Hyundai, Subaru , and Honda, And I thought this was by far the best by far. I hardly feel the bumps on the road at all. I have a donut tire in the back. It doesn’t take up that much room. It’s great.
It looks great.
I pre-ordered this exact model/colour January 2023. Coming in this month🎉. Has everything I was looking for and I dig the funky colour!
14 month wait!? Really?
Thank you!
Great review! Really love this new car
Needed to see the rear space with the seats down. Like do they lay flat?? That's a big oversight in this video.
I appreciate the fact you noticed how much of a difference a black headliner makes! It's on my 'must haves' list for a new car and my family thinks i'm crazy
Thanks for the reassurance on the Corolla Cross Hybrid! It's such a pain to find the XSE's with BBL here in NJ/PA. Can you tell me whether you have noticed the sound quality difference with the BBL over stock radio? I am in my car a good portion of the day and I need my Grateful Dead channel to sound like I'm at the show.
This video made me like this channel 😂 great video
It would be absolutely insane if Toyota decided to make a GR Corolla Cross, gas or hybrid. I'd be 100% down to buy it, it would be like Toyota's take on a Hyundai Kona N
I saw one in Philippines. It's called Corolla Cross GR-S.
You're very good! Your humour is perfect! Bravo!
Thank you! That really means so much!
Joe is also a former pro race car driver. And I think what kept him going was a whole lot of twinkies.
Thank you for your helpful video. My first new car was a Toyota Matrix -2005 small, sedan with all the bells & whistles,: alloy wheels, sunroof, CD player, 5 speed standard. Loved that car except for two things: 1) the Standard transmission crapped out - through no fault of my own - apparently it was a failed design which cost big bucks to fix. I know how to drive a standard. And the Driver's Seat was all manual settings. Having cervical spine issues, that didn't work for me. Loved the pep, loved the room, loved the hatchback. Corolla Cross may be my next car. Looked at Honda HRV b/c I love its a three door subcompact. However, I still communte and need prompt and reliiable acceleratiion. Wish there was the size of a Toyota Matrix slightly higher with AWD and options for us old people! Never had a honda ubt the reviews of the HR-V say NO PEP. Live in NH and in my 60's but still work. Need a comfortable car, would like a compact "SUV" with all the bells and whistles. Hate the new macho grill designs on all cars. Recommendations?
It is weird that it doesn't have a spare tire! Even my "tiny car" as my friend used to call it, the Matrix had a spare.
I have achieved the same MPG with a Rav4 and a Venza. Also, my experience with new versions of a model come with new problems. The later year versions typically have less problems because bug fixes have been addressed. New is not necessarily better.
Yeah of course Joe & this and RAV4 are best.
I like the flat black contrast coloring!
I would like the gloss black on the edge of the fender to better match the gloss trim on the rim.
I hope that in this model, when you turn off the display screen, you don't lose the clock. Their previous models do that.
I have own a 2015 Camry Hybrid with 201K miles and travel 514 miles on a tank of gas.
Looking at the XSE hybrid in that Blue Crush color. Also looking at new Kona as I need a crossover that will fit inside my garage (sorry RAV4). None of the dealers around my area have any for a test drive. Earliest deliveries are March to June!!! Hope I can eventually test drive one as I will have to "lock it down" by July for an October delivery! ONLY negative I have (without a test drive) is that there's no SPARE TIRE!!!
Actually nice looking and that color is amazing.
Saw them all over Thailand. Perfect car for that market. Loved it myself.
Yes. I live in Thailand and see quite a few even in our small town.
Yep, I've seen a bunch as well. That is good because they will be coming on the market used in short order. I never buy new.
I don't like the flat black because it gets dull and fades out. You need to put some product on it to get the shine back.
My lease is up on my RAV4 hybrid SE in January. I have been eyeing the cross, but there’s a few things that I’m used to with my RAV4. You cannot get a heated steering wheel on the cross and the cargo space is less than what I have on my RAV4. And the combined gas mileage is only 3 miles per gallon difference in favor of the RAV4… I think Toyota could have done better with the crosses, gas mileage… No spare tire that’s a big negative for me… However, I like the look of the XSE cross and that acidic blast color is totally awesome
This guy said not break the bank. The MSRP on this vehicle is around 30,000 by time you get it from the dealer it’ll be around 35 to 38,000.
American dollar has been watered down. That vehicle should not cost more than $24k.
And thats in the US... in PR its probably way over 42k easy. absolute insanity smh
@@9libertybell100% agreed, that vehicle is overpriced.
good review. I like this car
We’ve had our Red XSE since September. The things that bother me - the cup holders. Also if you’re putting something on the rack it has minimal weight allowance. We put on aftermarket rails.
I almost bought CCH but I really disliked the basically non existent arm rest and no spare tire.
The ride seemed fine and I wanted a smaller SUV.
The Venza had everything thing the CCH didn’t have, but it felt too big/boat like to me.🤷🏻♀️😩😂
My son and I have been looking at hatches and crossovers and he’s driven most of them. He finally decided on the Cross hybrid and will be ordering it today.
What was the most important thing for him to choose this car?
@@xyz-pg3zd There were a couple of things. The hybrid option at this price was a major factor (it’s got good acceleration and great mileage), but I think the most important factor is that we have a 240k mile Sienna still running strong! Also he really likes the interior’s combination of screen and knobs. The overall driving experience was very positive for him.
@@rapid13 how do you like it?
@@xyz-pg3zd Don’t have it yet. We’re trying to find one that matches the colors and options my son wants.
No spare tire is an immediate good bye and off the list. Many other manufacturers manage to fit spare, even Toyota themselves. Design better. Being stuck with punctured sidewall at 3am on country road, with only a bottle of messy fix a flat glue is not an appealing proposition.
😂 how stupid
I have been a Toyota lover since 1984. All my previous Toyotas were made in Japan. Recently, I put down my money for the Corolla Cross. One minor concern, the 2024 Corolla Cross is not made in Japan. Are there any significant issues that could be a concern? I live in Canada and the wait times for delivery are relatively long but then again, it is a Toyota. I loved your approach to the Corolla Cross.😃
I have an XLE hybrid RAV4 ... good car in the city, but struggling a bit on the freeway commute.
I wish they would offer full softex seats without the cloth inserts and none of that gloss black around the cup holders and I’ll buy two!
What is the lifespan on the batteries? Thanks
How does it measure up to the CR V hybrid?
Joe that car is merri gold gold not green I agree with the awd badge I don’t dip my pretzel in mustard I’d be more apt to dip it in ketchup but definitely not mustard Yes Toyota was extremely smart with what they did with what they learned from the Prius I’d probably buy the Carolla cross hybrid myself as well Thank you Joe and Stephen for another great video
This is basically a reincarnation of Prius V 🚙😊
I was just thinking that!!
Thank you for the wonderful content and in depth analysis.
What would be your choice between Corolla Cross Hybrid 2025 vs Rav4 Hybrid 2025?
Considering Corolla Cross Hybrid may get mid cycle refresh in 2025 and Rav4 seems outdated and may not get next generation model until 2026?
Definitely would go with the Corolla over the Rav4, for all the reasons you outlined in your video - great video thanks.
Well just as I expected. Even more suvs
Does it come with a refrigerator?? Thanks
I went to Toyota dealership yesterday plus other places and very confused but I wound up buying a 2021 Honda. It should have all the features when I got home. I had no manual. I was unsure of my purchase so I’m going to the bank to switch some money around and going back and watching your video, I think I’m gonna buy the Toyota Corona.
What was the actual gas mileage you got on your drive?
I'm thinking of going with the Corolla Cross for the size and my needs
Thanks for this, I'm hoping to buy one. I also would like to know if seats go flat, but I have a Prius Wagon (the V) and I bet the Corolla seats go down the same. I was thinking Rav4,, but a narrow driveway and living in the city ~ I think I'll go this route.
Toyota hybrids transmissions are called Ecvt, this type does not use the traditional belt system. Instead, an eCVT uses electric motor/ generators to control the speeds of planetary gearset components
And there's no actual 1st gear on the eCVT. That's only on the standard Corolla CVT.
I am proud owner of RAV 4 Hybrid 2022 XSE, from Japan factory. I love this car: black and silver colour 220 hp., classic hybrid.
A friend of mine has Toyota RAV 4 HYBRID 2023 and Toyota Corola Cross hybrid 2023 and he told me both are almost identical as consumption but he likes more RAV 4.
Does the hybrid make that high frequency magnetic-y sound in ecco mode at lower speeds (20mph)? Our hybrid corolla LE dies and it’s just loud and irritating. Thanks
It looks just a hair bit bigger than the original RAV4. Makes it a great size. Quite a bit for the $, I would think. Do you think it would be comfortable for long road trips?
Flat/matte black is classier than shiny IMO.
Toyota still needs to bring gr sport trim here to America
The Corolla Cross is good for very small kids. I want the RAV4 Hybrid when it gets a redesigned in 2025/26.
Whispers coming out of Cambridge assembly plant is late 2025 early 2026. It’s long overdue for the RAV4.
Dude is fantastic car I own RAV 4 2022 after the face lift and I love this car absolutely amazing behaviour: economical and also strong enough engine. I have two boys teens and with the lady still comfortable for four family members.😊
Corolla Cross is too big for me.
@@yourwisecousinjoe8841 Why don't you consider the Corolla sedan. Does Toyota still make the Yaris in the US?
@@Irishmanbikes I love small SUV. hopefully Toyota brings Yaris Cross or CH-R back to USA. But I doubt it. People here like big car for some reason. I don't get it.
might as well use flat black plastic because the gloss black fades fast.
Ya know...I saw that "AWD" and I thought WTH? This was my 2nd choice. I bought a 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid LX FWD for the mileage...I'm lovin' it...ba da ba ba bah
I like it. I think it’ll sell pretty good. Especially with the mileage and that price 👍🏽
Hey Joe!
Did they add an actual SPARE TIRE for the hybrid yet??
If not, then NO SALE for a hybrid vehicle that will leave you stranded when you get a flat. That’s not worth it no matter how high your MPG’s are!!
Yes, I wonder what people do when they have a flat that can't be fixed with the silly Toyota repair kit. I guess you have to get it hauled to a tire shop, since a towtruck driver isn't going to have a spare for it either. We bought a new Corolla Hybrid Infrared last year and I had no idea there would be no spare. The spare well has a small electrical component mounted right in the middle of it (I assume it's for the rear motor), so I can't put the spare that I bought in it. That tire now takes up half the trunk space. Why couldn't they at least mount the electrical thingy somewhere else in the trunk? Sucks.
@@rwalkenhorstsounds like you should research a vehicle before you buy it?
@@mister_dave1184 Thank you mister_condescending.
It does in EU. So FWD 2.0 Dynamic Hybrid gets you a spare tire @@rwalkenhorst
@@blaaaaaaaaahify Yes, according to our dealer's service manager it's the same in the US: front-wheel-drive Corolla Hybrids do come with a spare. The first time I took our AWD for service, he didn't believe me when I told him it didn't have one. As I said in my earlier comment, I think it's because they mount that small rear-motor electrical component right in the middle of the spare tire well, rendering it useless.
checked my local toyota dealer and this vehicle is marked up at least $5000 lol.
same here. every hybrid model is marked up $4995.
$5,000 buys an enormous amount of gas. I thought the $35,000 was rich. Now, it's $40,000 with that markup. Insane to spend that much on a little crossover like the Corolla Cross.
Yeah, they are crazy. I ended up buying a base 22' WRX for 29k, than deal with Toyota markups!
@@regiedsso you bought a used car with milies on for 5k less? You played yourself.
My dealer wanted $6k over MSRP. I said no. They caved.
like ur costco shoes 😃
Actually surprisingly nice. Would take it over Rav4.
I like what I see👍🏻
I like. With that kind of mileage I’ll deal with the CVT
Is there a Glove Box??
i have my own corolla cross hybrid and I've never noticed the easter eggs 💀
Was almost sold until you lost me at no spare….. don’t cheap out on essential stuff!
Nice size, but the hybrid with CVT leaves me flat. How about a Corolla Cross GR with the 1.6T from the Corolla GR and a transmission with some gears?
Yes , 5 speed
I don't know .. I don't really like the frontal design.
Kinda bummed Toyota is going to discontinue Venza, but are they going to bring yaris SUV and mini 'land cruiser' to US?
I was looking for an alternative to replace my Volkswagen sportwagen TDI and I think I found it.
Toyota only company I know to make a new car that looks a generation old when it debuts
I’m all in for this one! I was hoping to get a Rav4 Prime Hybrid but it’s so expensive I can’t justify it. This Corolla Cross Hybrid is perfect! I hope it comes in good colors!😊
What COLOR is that???
The rav4 still comes with halogen turn signals and costs more than the Corolla cross. On this trim of the Corolla cross you get LED turn signals front and rear and costs less. That’s scratching my head
The silhouette looks a little like a Mazda CX50. Any connection?
Built in the same factory.

I agree needs a HUD.
Wonder what it would be like to go from a Subaru Forester sized vehicle to this one? That's what I'm thinking about since I want a hybrid but wondering if this might be too small compared to my Subaru Forester...
Im in the same boat - my forester is right between the cross and Rav4 in terms of size.
This has so many Easter eggs. It's a good looking vehicle, I like the design language. I'd be worried about acceleration.
Any plans to review the 2024 Mazda 3 sedan, Joe? Thanks for all you do!
I never thought I would ever hear #drpimplepopper in a car review video. Leave it to Joe Raiti to make it happen🎤 😆
Only zonk for me on the Corolla and CC is the inch of black plastic around the infotainment screen that makes it look 5-10 years old. Honda civic and CRV have a much better looking interior and infotainment. I saw a CC on the road and agree with you the exterior looks fantastic. Wish they had a more modern look to the screen.
It wasn't until this episode that I realized that Raiti is from NuJoisey.
