Another video made with perfect explanations, no annoying background music drowning out instructions and camera angles from all needed vantage points. I wish more video makers would follow your example. I would like to know where you recommend getting some of those tools you used. The digital torque wrench is off the hook. Thanks again.
This really helped. I did notice you cannot fit the three bolts through the top engine bay area any old way. It actually is fool proof, and it will only align one way (the straight part facing the outside of the vehicle). I rotated it just to see if it could be installed incorrectly and you couldn't. FYI
On full assembly's, is there actually any difference between left and right fronts besides the ABS bracket? One brand is selling a single unit for both L and R, other brands have different SKU# for Left and Right...
On the top end of the strut assembly, is the large rubberized skirted washer supposed to touch the bearing surface or it just floats above it, with some gap between the skirt and the bearing? What is its purpose?
When it is being pushed in the force is on the cross nut. When it is extending the force is on the top rubber washer. The top washer is there because when the strut is being compressed and decompressed quickly it will not separate from the piece with the bering. It has rubber on it to prevent any clicking sounds from the mount.
Identical for all P2's. When I did my V70 with Bilsteins I had to improvise some rivets to hold the ABS wire clip to the new struts. Upper spring seats wear out fast! Febi Bilstein no! Genuine Volvo yes.
@@zzoinks They are fine although I wish I'd gone with the B4 rather than B6. I was saying the upper strut mount/insulator tends to wear out. My so-called heavy-duty IPD replacements are clunking. Pretty much every "HD" part I've bought from IPD fell short of the factory part it was meant to improve upon.
I think hes replacing it because they are cheap quick struts and will need replaced soon anyways. I just found out someone put duralast quick struts on mine before i got it so i am doing the same. They actually don’t handle bad but they are starting to make some noise.
Seems like you guys could make some coin selling the complete strut assemblies so folks don't have to mess with the coils. The cheaper aftermarket brands seem to offer this with the tradeoff of lower quality.
Since there are many spring variations for each volvo model (basic vs sport vs Rdesign vs etc...), I might guess that it would better to do it this way instead of fitting "one spring fits all"
FCP did offer " quick strut " assemblies from Sachs like 2 years ago, put pulled them off market because they said they had too many returns and problems with them.
I wish all you-tubers watched this to see the quality of the production! Well done everyone involved.

Excellent DIY clip. Thanx my Good Dude. Have been thirsty for P2 content.
Great video guys but for beginners I would maybe advise against using an impact gun to compress the spring?
WOW! Excellent tutorial! ...very pleasant instructor! Awesome!!

Thanks for posting. Seems like easy jobs, i always thought we're hard, just need the right tools
I will replace the struts and shocks next weekend
Nice work, Phil!
Yay Volvo content!
Love P2 videos
Is it necessary to get wheel alignment after replacing those struts
Do you have a video for the spa xc90?
Is there a video on you guys working on EPBrakes.

The same strut is used on either side. Our kit is linked in the description below, which shows part numbers and all that is included!
@@fcpeuro mucho appreciated. Thanks!
Is it ok to torque the top 21mm and the 3 13mm nuts as the last step with the tire installed and off the lift?
Yes ...of course!
Great video
so, left and right side struts are interchangeable? It's same strut that can be used on either side?

@@tylerocarz7153 Thank you for explaining. Much appreciated.
What is the typical cost of such a job?

The Bilstein is no good?

so just for a noisy part at the top you are replacing the whole unit?

Good job
Very god information!
Glad it was helpful!
Spring seats (upper insulator) fail a lot on these, annoying.

Great tutorial. Crappy music. Why do editors think that's cool???? DJ wannabes?
The only thing we wannabe is helping people fix their cars!
