This desk was in rough shape. Trena does extensive veneer, cane, and structural repairs. Be sure to check out Part I, "Fit for the burn pile"
I’m so glad that in these days of throw-away culture there are still people with the skills to repair and restore - and equally glad that there are people prepared to pay for such expert work. What a beautiful result!
Me too! Love my customers!
This video is even more enjoyable because of your curious helper. What a well-behaved cutie!
I didn’t know you had a sense of humor! That whole distressed shtick was pretty funny. Thanks so much for your channel, I’ve learned a lot, much more than what I learned in finishing classes.
Lol. Glad you liked it.
Trina has a great sense of humor! See her many LOL video titles. ❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, that whole distressed thing had me in stitches! Especially when she “elbowed” it! 🤣🤣🤣
I particularly liked the foam cups, and if I'm not mistaken I think I saw a sharpie chucked as well.
Rudee!
Using my legendary powers of observation and my world renowned math skills I've determined that you've been working on the Desk-zilla project since Jan.17th. I came to this conclusion by counting the number of times you were wearing different pants...Another incredible restoration..
Lol. Nice work!
Lol
That is so stalkerish ... but in an innocent way! Hilarious 🤣
And I thought I was OCD! 🤪👍🤗
"There was a void in the veneer..." Poetry and incredible craftsmanship...I was really looking forward to part 2 to see the final result. Brava, Trena! Beautiful work.
Thankyou!
The owner must be over the moon with that ! That is a amazing transformation.
From and ugly duckling to a swan. As always, beautiful fine details executed perfectly!
I like how, when explaining something you are always running your hand over the wood, tapping, assessing and even, sometimes, caressing the pieces. Amazing work on this one.
Watching you re-glue the veneer reminds me of my late father (an MD) using 20 cm-long amniocentesis needles to get glue under veneer.
Smiling watching Shopdog so attentive. Laughing out loud about distressed wood
What a joy to watch her come alive again. She is simply lovely. Well done. I appreciate your calm, thoughtful restoration.
Thankyou!
The distressing!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Glad I could make you laugh
I see shopdog is staying right on top of it, making sure you do not mess it up!
She sure is 🤣
This desk WAS worth all the work to repair and restore it. It LOVELY!! ❤
I think so too!
love the destressing bit. made me laugh!
beautiful piece ! oak veneer is well matched indeed. keep up the great work!
Lol thanks!
It would be nice to see your customers reactions to the wonderful restorations you do do!
Back in the late 60's I worked for Oklahoma Fixture during the summer. Distressing new stuff with chains was always fun. Thanks for bringing back those memories. Great work as usual and glad you did the before and after. I'd forgotten how bad it was.
Thanks for watching!
My compliments on your good judgment in employing such an intelligent shop assistant
Always will trust four-legged shop workers quicker than two-legged ones
Thank you for your excellent work and your appreciation for the beauty of the wood
That was such a fun project. Even though I will never do anything like this, I learned a lot. Beautiful work.
Thankyou!
I enjoy watching you work, flying by the seat of your pants! Nice job Very simple and effective techniques, love you Trena...Dad.
thanks dad! love you!
This piece is beautiful and your finesse & patience is to be applauded in your endeavors to recreate this and many of the others you have done
THankyou!
Talk to the wood about distressing it. Emotional therapy so the wood fits on with its friend. Love it❤️❤️❤️
Great job, I can see why you called it Desk-Zilla!. years ago I put an Elevator in a furniture factory and they set this gorgeous hutch next to the opening on the first floor. Oak and the grain was beautifull. I was up in the hoistway working and I heard this clanging noise??? so went down to investigate and two guys were standing front and back, beating on the Hutch with chains!. as hard as they could swing and hit it. When I asked why? I was told to creat worm holes and to distress it. I almost cried when I saw that. Pro-gress! ya gotta love it!. Oh I think they called it "Technique" ECF
Lol
"It's not a big deal, if you make a mistake: it's only a big deal, if you leave it!"---thank you Trena! I Love it!
What you did is absolutely beautiful! You are very meticulous in the way you repair items. I hope you were well paid for your work.
Yes. My customers are Awesome!
From beat up back to beautiful. What a result!
Hard work, I could watch it all day. :).
The joy of being retired.
I would be so proud to own this piece, knowing all the work and attention that has gone into it. Dare i say love?
Your love and patience for your art is outstanding.
You always amaze me with your quality of work and knowledge of your craft. Thank you for the insight into your work.
Thankyou!
Emotionally distress your wood! This is priceless, Thanks for this tip. Love you.
Reflecting upon all that was needed to effect this amazing restoration, I would say it was a difficult journey, but one with a beautiful finish. Bravo!
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Desk design in woodworking has been a deal with me for many years.
Really enjoyable and informative. Love the sigh of resignation when having to use nails. Not seen veneering with hide glue done that way before. My first encounter with hide glue was in pearl form - smelt abominable. It was rapidly abandoned for a thermoplastic adhesive film to complete the projects.
The final toning of the fresh veneer was masterful as usual.
Such skill and patience.
Thankyou!
Wow, once again, this is craftsmanship at its finest. Thank you, Trena, for showing me that.
Thanks again!
love the before and after shots at the end. Nicely done.
I am rolling on the floor laughing watching you distress everything. There’s just some days and there’s just some projects that need it.
A remarkable restoration. You should be extremely proud of this.
BTW, I bought the little scraper you use from Lee Valley. I like it a lot, so thank you. I have learned a lot from your videos.
Oh awesome. It’s so handy! Cheers
When I made the desk I'm writing on, I finished everything before I assembled my desk. I'd broken the mission desk into sub assemblies which made glue up a lot easier. Never did anchor the top. Well done.
amazing that you could salvage this. I learned a lot.
Distressing the wood was hysterical, thank you, I am learning so much.
Absolutely fabulous. Thanks for sharing your many talents/gifts with us. 💕💕💕
Thankyou for watching
Thank you for the laugh this morning. I love your take on distressed and distressing “new” wood.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I learn something different with every video. Thank you so much for showing the correct way to restore and preserve these gorgeous antiques! =-)
The distressing....OMGOSH! Best laugh of the day 🤣 😆
🤓
Quarter-sawn oak is my favorite wood! This piece came out absolutely beautiful. I'd have this in my home in a minute. You can be very proud.
Thank you for saving this beautiful lady;
she'd waited 4 so long for this rescue!
A more skilled pair of hands, a more meticulous & thoughtful artist/craftsperson doesn't exist, & I'm very glad it was you that took on this restoration. Now, this piece can, once again, be seen as she's meant 2 b seen- - and useful, as originally intended! 🎉
You are welcome!
Hi,great outcome, silk purse from a sows ear😎 old Scots saying anyone who never made a mistake never made anything, take care good health in 2023 from Bonnie Scotland 🏴❤️🇬🇧
Your assistant 😍 is so intent on helping!! Good dog!!!
You know the tape edge blend trick, nice, so much skill. Beautiful tiger oak.
Your doggy is in agreement with everything.
Good to see Shop Dog on the job as the QC Inspector making sure you got the right stuff for the project. She is an Excellent employe. 🐶
You got that right!
AWESOME WORK. 👍
I know that you take your work seriously, but I want to thank you for making it fun to watch. I subscribe to other restoration channels that do things so stoically. I appreciate your sense of humor and the times of playfulness. It helps me relax and forget the heaviness of life for a little while. Thank you.
Tha kyou
Greetings from the BIG SKY. I never learned without watching first.
Rodger when you say Big Sky are you referring to Saskatchewan?
@@johnsfurniturerepair I haven't been in
Saskatchewan yet, but north of Montana is Alberta which is a Provence I've been in many times. The Big Sky of Montana is my Home.
Oh nice!
No words!😐 You are a Master Trena!
Such a sweet doggy!
Beautiful work. Only an old, retired teacher would notice the pen rack ( middle of paper racks) was upside down.
Yes, you are right.lol i switched it before the customer saw thank goodness.
"Take that, non old wood! I throw tiny things at you for not being old!" *lol* I enjoyed the whole process of restoring this piece of furniture, but that one in particular- :D Thank You!
keep the pictures of the original condition cause looking at it now no one would believe it was ever such a mess. you made it into a very beautiful piece of furniture
Your work is unbelievable. The sad little pieces really come to life. Your work is more than awesome❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
Stunning transformation, your attention to detail and commentary is first class . I love the facial expressions, it shows your care and concentration. You need to get back to Canada and give mr Trudeau the same talk you gave your new wood piece.
no thanks. lol
Desk-Zilla is now Desk-Luscious.
A huge amount of work, but well worth it in the end.
Wonderful work, as always. When you started to distress that piece of wood I thought you were going to sing Cat Stevens "Father and Son" to it. 😀
Thank you very much!
I Love how in the end of the video you make it look like something one would see in the dawn treader in Narnia. Absolutely magical craftladyship! :)

😄
I learned that 'hole in the rim' trick many years ago: I always do it to paint cans, but usually use an 8d or 10d nail. 😁
Show rewarding to see the care and expertise you put into your restorations. Well done
It always seems so easy, for you, it makes me feel so good to see all of yours, post, congratulations, teacher, I think so, maturity begins when we are ready to feel that we are right about something, without feeling the need to prove it. someone else is wrong, peace to all your family, Brazil
Z miłością i oddaniem cuda się dzieją :) ...
You are an absolute “hoot” to watch. I truly enjoy your work and have learned a great deal.
I used to watch videos similar to this to fall asleep. Now they are the reason I'm not sleeping.
lol
It's funny, your name for me has now become a verb.
When something needs to be done that requires no shortcuts, attention to detail, and a high level mastery, I usually say to myself, ‘ …… that needs to be trena-ed’, or ‘ I just need to trena that, “ I should trena that !’ but mostly because I lack your skill, I usually say, ‘man, I wish I could trena that!’
Verb: trena, to trena.
Definition: to accomplish something with (requiring) a high degree of dedication, patience, mastery, skill and love. The process needed to achieve a particular exceptional result.
😁
lol. you are so funny!
That writing desk looks fantastic. The wood toning came out beautifully.
This is one of the best instructional videos I've ever watched! Many thanks for sharing! I've watched it three times and have picked up something new each time. Again, thanks for sharing! I know it takes time to put all this together. But we all appreciate your hard and skilled work!
Wow! Thankyou Kent!
Absolutely great work. Love that your dog “helps” you. My boxer Scarlet was my helper when I worked on motorcycles.
That is awesome!
Why is Trena so watchable? Why do I think this is going to a million subscribers?
that would be great!
Gorgeous ❤ you have so much talent 😊
I'm a new watcher of your channel; and admit to binge watching 3 or 4 repairs at a time. I'm a great grandma who loved painting and working on furniture when I was younger. Watching your repairs and refurbishing of older pieces has been delightful for me. This little desk turned out absolutely beautiful. It would be a welcomed addition in any home. The Lord has blessed you girl with an awesome talent and ability to see the beauty in these pieces you so well reconstruct and bring back to life for another day of blessing someone. God Bless you girl, stay confident in the ability He has given you. I think He must enjoy watching you as you create.
thankyou Lynn, very kind
Beautiful restoration!! AGAIN!!
I was waiting for Part 2, and you didn't disappoint!
Awesome!
Wow, absolutely beautiful! Great job young lady!
Your videos are a valuable resource. Thank you,
You're very welcome!
This patient fell into the hands of the right Doctor. 😎👍🏻
Awesome work!
Most people will put this piece in the trash, only a Craftsman will take on a challenge like this to restore it, thank you to show us how.... Coffee is on me...👍
Thankyou! Your support is so appreciated!
Teuss is German for "see you later or next time" Nice one
Lots of work but a unique and beautiful refinish job. Thank you.
As you work, I'd love to hear more stories about how you learned to do this stuff from your father. You are a true skilled Craftsman (errr, craftswoman)!
Tha kyou
I am amazed at how well you tinted that front piece of veneer you added to the top. Awesome
Thanks 👍
Great work as always, music was top shelf.
Such beautiful work as always. You truly are an artist young lady. I know your parents must be so proud of the work you do.
Normally don’t like to leave 2 comments on the same video, but the finished product was incredible! Your attention to detail, and your talent for not stressing out when things don’t exactly go according to plan are commendable! Just the thought of installing that caning gave me hives! Thanks for a wonderful channel, and for sharing the talents that God blessed you with, and your parents fine tuned! Until next time, stay safe, stay well!
Thankyou Tom!
Greetings from the BIG SKY. again,
Nice!
Having spent 30+ years restoring furniture I can really appreciate what and how you do what you do. The best part is when its finally done and it is beautiful. All the hard, time consuming labor is forgotten, and it was worth it.
Thankyou!
It became a flamboyant and perfect desk
Wonderful job, you are a very clever lady. Proud of you.
Here in central Montana, I've never even seen hide glue yet other than visually. After seeing your bottom long rail, I think you succeeded in giving it enough distress.
Nice job I enjoy your beautiful work and smiling face.
Hahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 "Now it has something to be distressed about .. give em one of these!"
I almost cried from laughing! I remember doing this with my sister-in-law.
Anyway, I love when you inject your sense of humor. The more comfortable you get doing these videos, the more you share that side of you, and it's wonderful. ♥️
You're my furniture hero 😂
BEAUTIFUL desk!!! ♥️♥️
Thanks, glad i could make you laugh
