I am Malaysian and have been sent to Xinjiang many times for work (import and export of dried fruits). I’ve visited both big cities and small villages in Xinjiang. I’ve also gotten to know many local Uyghurs and talked to them about politics there. Western media often says that the CCP has destroyed religion and Uyghur culture. But during my visits, I saw the Uyghur language everywhere, such as on metro signs, road signs, and public facilities. In the bazaars, I even saw people performing traditional Uyghur dances. Outside Xinjiang, mosques can also be seen in cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing, along with Buddhist temples, mosques and churches, some of which are hundreds or even thousands of years old buildings. In Xinjiang, my Uyghur friends told me that in the past, some were arrests. This was because Muslims were divided into two groups, and the extremist group (supported by the US and Turkey) attacked not only Han Chinese but also other local muslims. They planted bombs in bazaars, killing many people. It took a few years to restore peace.

@@Slavicplayer251 Actually frozen, raw, cooked, pickled or even fermented are all present. Most places have a blend of things, and the same ingredient can be served in the full range of ways (e.g. Mutuk) sort of like everywhere else. The only difference is sometimes the ingredients themselves.
@@Slavicplayer251 That depends on location. The common misconception is that the arctic circle is synonymous with the tree line, so the assumption is there's never any firewood. In reality, being above the tree line is being anywhere where the temperatures in mid July doesn't reach 10C. So in areas where that condition isn't met, the answer is simply firewood (The Saami, the Nenetes, among many other indiginous, arctic/circumpolar populations). It coincides often with reindeer herding as a main source of sustenance, and is generally on the Eurasian side of the Arctic circle. The tree line is often further into the Arctic. In areas where that condition is met and there are no trees,, the answer was usually animal fat. Tends to often coincide with populations also hunting/fishing and consuming whale and seal, as opposed ot herding reindeer. Whale blubber is both a valuable food source, as well as a valuable fuel source historically. The SHEER enormity of the animal alone ensured that communities are well supplied through winter without the need for overfishing at all. That's more on the North American side of the Arctic, and that includes Greenland. Geography and climate play a role, but all in all, humans there have done the same that humans have done anywhere. Looked around, and found a way to survive.

I’ve seen loads of them. It seems like things aren’t as bad there as western media likes to portray. It’s hard to say how honest RUclipsrs are able to be in the Xinjiang region. However, it seems that Uighur and other Muslim communities in China are able to freely practice their religion and culture. I’ve seen many videos showing Chinese Muslims speak their own languages openly in public, praying and fasting publicly and attending many large mosques, dressing in traditional Muslim and cultural clothing and cooking and selling halal food. I think the situation is a lot more complex than western mainstream media portrays. The reeducation camps probably exists, however I don’t think Chinese Muslims are universally incarcerated in them. Some individuals are definitely forced into reeducation camps, but it doesn’t seem to just be for practicing Islam or maintaining their culture. From the research I have done it’s part of the anti poverty policies of Xi Jin Ping. These policies have had a lot of negative impacts and have since been scrapped.
I appreciate all the comments calling sonny out. He is/was one of my favorite youtubers but making this video on something you know little about without even visiting the actual place is just poor work.
But actually what information he has shared above is sort of fair and balanced though. There is proof of internment camps and some form of erosion and control of their cultural habits. But at the same time, there is no accusation of extreme abuse of that sort. Depending on whose perspective you are viewing the situation... the top brass of CCP is indeed doing a strong-handed crackdown (as they do with ANY situation tbh, its not just this scenario) to prevent any racial riot. But from the native majority perspective... it is also understandable why they felt the pressure to be independent when you see a flood of a different group of people entering your living space. Human ARE social animals, inevitably, we feel pressure and uneasiness to have huge change in short span of time in terms of living with someone that has a vastly different habit. We exercise understanding and patience to be able to subdue that. As a Singaporean, our multi-racial and multi-religious background helps us to see the world's issue better. If you haven't grew up in a environment where you got to interact with other groups different from you often enough... its easy to have discord.
@@maddyjane6869 Doesn't it? "Halal" is a set of dietary laws which includes the way of slaughtering as well as the list of forbidden foods. Our Muslim brothers and sisters are suffering on both ends, from atheists and other groups starting with 'I' or 'J.' Oppressors don’t need 'their' side heard because there is no justification. Lots of things to comment here. There are several problems with claims made in this video, but before going into details, I want to make it very clear that my arguments do not intend to ignore the pain of the people interviewed in the video, nor to claim that there are no human rights violations perpetrated by the Chinese government against the Uighur population. 1 - There's nothing complicated about going to Xingjiang with a camera and interviewing Uyghurs, in fact hundreds of vloggers have done just that, and as this channel understands traveling and RUclips vlogs, it's hard not to see bad faith in the claim that this is something illegal or dangerous. 2 - There is no material evidence that there are 1 million Uighurs imprisoned. This is stated by the UN and the League of Arab Countries who visited the region and were unable to confirm the allegations of genocide or mass incarceration of this ethnic group. It's not difficult to find Muslims with long beards in Xingjiang, just look at the abundant vlogs made in the region. During the period of the one-child law in China, ethnic minorities were not subjected to such a law, only in the Han ethnic group, there are abundant Mosques in China, especially in the Xingjiang region. 3 - Pointing out these facts does not exclude the existence of human rights violations by the Chinese government in confronting separatist movements. But it is important to note that human rights violations occur everywhere, in Guantanamo, in France, in the USA, in Brazil, in Africa, and it is necessary to separate this from what constitutes genocide. Interestingly, after the escalation of violence in Gaza, Western media became much more shy about applying this term when talking about Xinjiang, and even with the abundance of evidence of the Palestinian genocide, major media outlets refuse to apply the term they so emphatically used to describe Chinese policies. I can imagine this content producer not being allowed to enter China, but only because this video is a clear piece of propaganda, with no concern for considering both sides of an issue involving separatist movements, and this is something that China in fact does not tolerate, but it seems to me that this applies to any sovereign country.
With all due respect, your comment is biased towards China and CCP. I talked with people who's lived there(muslim minorities) and who went through those camps. First of all, you don't have to be separatist to be jailed in those camps. Among people who's stories I know, the reason of their imprisonment were: 1) Existence of any relatives, who's living abroad, with whom they might have even occasional contacts. 2) Travelling abroad to muslim majority countries. 3) Being "not enough" Chinese. Not sure about the definition of the "not enough", but generally it seems like being not enough patriotic, but can't say for sure. 4) Being "overly"religious. Also not sure about when it starts being "overly" religious. (Lets be clear, this is not about radicalism) And about "ethnic minorities were not subjected to such a law, only in the Han ethnic group". They ARE subjected to such a law. If they give birth to more than set number by government, they will pay the fine or might be jailed. There are also cases of forced sterilization. Because of that birth rates among minorities plummeted in Xinjiang(you can check stats provided by Chinese gov). So yeah, under the pretext of a war with separatism and religious radicalism, they are doing extreme things to a lot of innocent people. That is wrong.

If Sonny wants to get political then it gonna have to be also with the taxes he pays to the US govt that has funded what Israel has done in Gaza, or what the USA has done to Iraq, Afghanistan. What about closer to home or wife's home in Vietnam. Sonny will you do an episode on what the Vietcong did to all the Hmong people? if you gonna take a stand then you really better be able to be objective too if not then it shows who you really are.

I look at this from the perspective of a foreigner who has been there. Every year, hundreds of millions of Chinese travel to Xinjiang, and tens of thousands of foreigners go to Xinjiang. I have also been to Xinjiang. There are 3-4 Uyghur restaurants downstairs from my house, hundreds of Uyghur restaurants in my city, and thousands of Uyghur restaurants in my province. Most Westerners, including you, look at Xinjiang from a preconceived standpoint. In fact, Xinjiang Muslims are the happiest Muslims in the world, but there are always some people who want to disrupt China's unity and make them live in fear similar to Muslims in the Middle East. The CCP should not fall into the trap of self-proof, and Xinjiang Muslims should not do the same. Those who want to understand the real human rights crisis should look at Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

Sikh term khalsa is king of king persia ( sanskrit term khasas and king of persia is king of babylon who are kashite king). There is a diffrence between iran and turkey. Mainly because of human conflicts such as asyrian vs kashite (tajik tribe by chinese). Tajik is a word refering to people feom iranian heritage. Whike turks eveb have asyrian. Kashite (sumerian) moved to central asia because asyrian took kish as kish got neglected when kashite focused on babylon.
It took a few years to restore peace.

is traditional Arctic food cooked or raw/frozen?
@@Slavicplayer251 Actually frozen, raw, cooked, pickled or even fermented are all present. Most places have a blend of things, and the same ingredient can be served in the full range of ways (e.g. Mutuk) sort of like everywhere else. The only difference is sometimes the ingredients themselves.
@@TechnicallyBeige thats cool i didn’t know they had that much variety, how did they get fuel for fires?
I would love to see this 🙏

Kurvanjan is such a nice guy! Good vibes, charisma, solid food. When he answers which Uyghur food is the best - on Kazakh or China side - by replying "At home is the best" he also adds "Mum's cooking!" afterwards. Amazing episode, Sonny!
Just always. West loves to propaganda "Human Rights".
This is the most ChatGPT explanation i've ever seen in my life
With all due respect, your comment is biased towards China and CCP. I talked with people who's lived there(muslim minorities) and who went through those camps. First of all, you don't have to be separatist to be jailed in those camps. Among people who's stories I know, the reason of their imprisonment were:
1) Existence of any relatives, who's living abroad, with whom they might have even occasional contacts.
(Lets be clear, this is not about radicalism)
And about "ethnic minorities were not subjected to such a law, only in the Han ethnic group".

Thank you so much for sharing this insightful video. It’s truly eye-opening and greatly appreciated, as it highlights both the rich cultural heritage of the Uyghur community and the stark reality they face. I’ve often wondered about their current conditions and have always been curious about their unique and vibrant cuisine. It’s heartening to see content that brings attention to their situation, which many seem to overlook or are unaware of. In Malaysia, there’s a strong and continuous focus on the struggles of the Palestinian people, which is crucial, but it’s equally important to remember that the plight of innocent Uyghurs should not be ignored. The stories of those who face injustice and persecution, regardless of where they come from, deserve to be heard. This video does an excellent job of shedding light on that, and for that, I’m grateful. Thank you for being brave enough to highlight such critical issues that resonate globally.

did sonny get banned first and then posted this? one weird thing about the beard part is that this guy doesn't have a beard and the uyghurs in china do. and the uyghur script appears on renminbi banknotes, so there's inconsistency about the "erase" part. i think they just took the bombers and crazy stabbers-to-be away for some down time. years ago australia started pre-emptive house raids on muslims, kicking doors down in the middle of the night, in case they were planning an attack.
when it comes to us, we have to be called( by you) terrorists, as if being Muslims automatically makes us “terrorists”. On the other hand, when it comes to your crazy murderers killing kindergarten kids, … you never call them terrorists because they’re your very own people. That’s it.

Supposedly America cares about Muslims in China, but don't care about Muslims in Gaza, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, etc.

Don't assume that all people from a country are the same.
It's common knowledge that the people with the most controversial opinions are the ones that get the attention and media coverage, because stories like that get people's attention and sell well. So the relatively small amount of bad ones that are full of hate are the ones you'll hear about most of the time, but most of us don't like those bad ones either.
The vast majority of Americans care about people in general, and would accept you regardless of where you come from, the color of your skin, or what you do or do not believe in.

Anyone can go there and have a chat with some of the 11 million Uyghurs who still live there.
Anyway, you should have asked these Kazakh "Uyghurs" for their opinions on armed separatists, radical Islam, and carving up civilians with machetes. A significant number of these Uyghurs have some funny ideas about these things... Thankfully the vast majority of those living in China aren't like that.

Just like term holiday named after festival of holi ( the festive reason in vishnu puran) from term holy other religion adopt the name holy. From the sacred ness in name of ram. You have ramadan even al-ram in palestine or ram- alah in israel and islam named al-ram as al-haram ( sacred land a name given to majid that around mecca). Before people in islam looked in direction of mecca they looked in direction of ramah also a place mentioned in bible. It is a person choice to follow the law that suit them the best. But understand that one being land locked and one being in sea is not a hurdle espeically when people used common langauge like pali for it be people of cambodia or thailand or myanmar tibet, china, india, srilajka, pakistan nepal, afghanistan all used pali even more than langauge like sanskrit as pali was the most common langauge in all of asia. When druze people native of israel and palestine jordan and lebanon say they practiced khnadar budhsin it make me question how new other religion is even if peoppe like abrham or moses wife being from my ethenicity.
