The lesson I learnt from this series is that, success always attracts envy from one's closest and dearest. Huremm's friend was happy for her but wanted what she had. Ibrahim was devoted to the Sultan but secretly craved his power. It's always best to keep close friends out of one's power base.
Well, Gülnihal liked the idea of having the same as Hürrem it seems, but I feel like she was also been set up (by Ibrahim for example). If you're asked to come to the sultan, you could hardly say no of course. But I get your point and think it's a good one.
Haseki Sultan was the title used for the chief consort of an Ottoman Sultan. In later years, the meaning of the title changed to "imperial consort". Hürrem Sultan, principal consort and legal wife of Suleiman the Magnificent, was the first holder of this title. Nor was Mahideveran ever a Sultana, she was a slave her entire life. Nor was Mahideveran Sueliman's "one and only true love," as Mahideveran continually said. Mahidervan lived in her own fantasy world, which had no basis in reality.
I love the way Nigar Kalfa is always smiling at Hürrem's childishness like a mother does. Hürrem acts like a spoilt brat in front of Nigar and gets away with it... 🤣❤️

I feel bad for Maria (or Gülnihal) because she’s always been there for Hürrem, even through all of the tantrums of Hürrem. She just did what was told and now she’s in a horrible situation...
@@denisajuknaite7130 And why couldn't she? She was a concubine just as Hurrem and had all the right to have her same ambition, while Hurrem only treated her as her servant and even made her taste the food.
@@Deter7427 Im not saying Hurrem was a good friend, but neither was Gülnihal in that moment. Just because Hurrem is a worse person doesn't mean that Gülnihal was innocent in that situation, yes she couldnt say no to the Sultan but she also WANTED to go.
@@denisajuknaite7130 But what do you meant with "innocent" then? Why is it bad for her to want a better life? Innocence doesn't necessarily mean stay as a servant just because a "friend" would like it so, you can have your own ambitions and dreams and still be innocent, wanting hurrem's life didn't meant hurting her, she wanted to hide the meeting just for that, because she knew how Hurrem would react, but apart from that, Guilnihal's dream was pretty innocent, something all concubines would want.
@@Deter7427 but when you think of the only way that dream can come true, it would be to become the sultan's favourite.... which would hurt her friend. Just because its what everyone else would want still doesnt make it right. Idk... if I was essentially married to a king and has his kids, I wouldnt want my best friend to then go on and do the same with someone I love. If there were more sultans, then sure but like... come on... anyway this was fun 😂😂
So Hurrem did the same with Maria what Mahidevran did to her. It's such a pity that all these women went to such extent just for a sick pervert who was sleeping & toying around with all of them.
Hatice and Hurren's friendship is so pure here, I wish it had remained so throughout the series (I haven't seen it all, just know a little stuff here and there, please don't give spoilers!)
Hurrem is disrespectful to friends and ppl around her, but the era in which this happened it was very courageous to see how a young girl taken away as slave , fighting with all sorrows of past , without any support manage to become legal wife of sultan Suleiman... Lady with firm determination made her dream come true...
Conspiracy.. Lies.. Manipulating..killing.. Bullying.. Poking... Provoking.. If we think that's the way for reaching goal.. I wish one should never reach that goal..
People defending Hurrem and accusing Maria are delusional, Maria is also the Sultan's woman, they all were. Was Hurrem the only one allowed to dream? To rise above a common slave? I honestly felt horrified for the poor girl.
If you are a member of a sultan's harem, it means you are his property. So maria was taken as concubine same as hurrem. If the sultan chooses to sleep with her, that was his prerogative and that was the sultanate's way of continuity of its succession. That is the "harem" way.
Yes this is how the harem works ,but from the time Hurrem became a favourite and started to receive gjfts and a chamber bluh bluh , Maria was very envy of her , and of course she was his property too but if i was Maria i would have said , your majesty don't take it the wrong way , i would never go against your wishes ,i just wish I won't have problems in the future because as you know I'm the closest friend of Hurrem and her closest cuncubing also... Maria is a very beautiful and sultry woman if she really wanted to be a real friend she should have said something in very nice and elegant way even if the outcome was the same Suleiman would know who Maria was and even he could change his mind.... But of course poisoning her best friend is unforgivable...
For all those saying hurrem is selfish, tell me who isn't. Firstly maria did betray hurrem and hurrem did the same although her way was wrong. If maria was ready to betray hurrem for sultan and harm their friendship, hurrem was ready to do so too. Secondly, not only hurrem is selfish but mahidervan? SHE DID SO MUCH TO HURREM JUST BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT HER TO COME CLOSE TO SULTAN AND WHAT ABOUT IBRAHIM? HE SEND MARIA TO SULTAN JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED TO REMOVE HURREM FROM THEIR LIVES SO THAT THE SULTAN DOESN'T GET TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP.
Hurrem was exposed to constant anger and then ridicule. She responded in kind.. just Hurrem against the ugliest. She was always one step ahead of them.
Watching these women's situation it proves that...No woman can share her loved one with anybody Specially the husband... Husband’s love is the only constant thing that a woman can never share with anyone rather than murder somebody... In this serial every character has bad and good qualities both in them...so you can never choose anyone as a fav among them if you want a noble, honest and kindhearted pure character. No one is perfect

She put up with the palace knowing he was cheating, but was willing to live like that to not lose him. That's pretty darn sick!

Poor Gulnihal…I really pity her. She has become a victim because of Ibrahim . And now the Sultan himself has chosen her. It’s unfair Hurrem…you are also behaving like Mahidevran..
Also, there was an unwritten Osmanli rule that once a concubine had a boy baby, she was to be put aside, to keep from having more boys, boys who would have to be assassinated once their brother was put on the throne. Why? To relieve any alleviate that moral misery the Osmanli house rules would create. As it was an Osmanli house rule, the same rule should have been operative on Mahidevan, but she had 3 boys total, tho 2 died when Mustafa was still little. In the end, Hürrem had 5 kids, four boys (1 of whom was disabled) the others who loved Mahidevan, even to the point of supporting her financially after the deaths of Mustafa and their father.
I had never noticed. That's so weird. Why is Daye Hatun allowed to be an older women but Valide can't be shown being her age ? such a weird decision the showrunners made
Hatice and ibrahim love was so pure here... The way hatice looks after she gifts him and the way ibrahim put his face down after she said they cant see eachother anymore.. pain in their eyes 🥺bgm adds more to it.
But she was. Hürrem and the others were gifted fabrics and jewels. Maria was the only one given the Sultan’s PERSONAL fur. Not even Hürrem got to wear his fur. The fur stoles are only worn by the royal family. Hürrem didn’t get hers until AFTER Mehmet was born. Maria got THE SULTAN’S just by sleeping with him. Twice. That basically fast tracked her to becoming a favorite. Therefore making her a threat.

When Mahi poisons pregnant hurrum, everyone hides it and no one asks her anything but for hurrum they take her son from her, valida is such an evil.that's why she loses her son by protecting evil mahi
Hurrem is wrong for what she did to Gunhilar. She couldn't tell the Sultan no and if she told Hurrem this, the outcome would be the same. Why is it okay for Hurrem to want status but all the other girls should be satisfied with what they have? Lay the blame with the Sultan, he professes to love her so much but is still sleeping with other women.
Valide explained it to Mahidevron: "this is Topkapi palace, do you know how many rivals you have?" That applies to Hurrem as well. She knows all women in the harem are rivals. She wants to send a message to all of them.
Hurrem and Maria were best friends, the Sultan would’ve never looked her way if Ibrahim didn’t set it up to hurt Hurrem. However Marie had envious thoughts prior to the setup, she proceeded to go to Sumbul for advice which is why she became Muslim. And no you can’t compare what Mahidevran did to this situation because Mahi began plotting since she had Gulsha bring Hurrem to her chamber. And she was never a friend of Hurrem.
Mahidevran made chaos in Harem.. •Valide Hafsa: Don't be sad you beautiful.. Mahidevran stole Hurrem's Ring.. •Valide Hafsa: You are Suleiman's favourite, don't weep over a ring.. Mahidevran beat Hurrem af •Valide Hafsa: Use your sense, you are a haseki, don't waste time on a concubine.. Mahidevran poisioned Sultan's dessert and almost killed Hurrem and unborn baby ( the desert could be eaten by Suleiman too) Valide Hafsa (surprisingly still) : Mahidevran stop doing these, I can't help you if you mess more.. smile, be happy.. and whenever Hurrem tried to defend anytime for the sake of her safety and identity.. Valide Hafsa: She is a sinister, we can't deal her with kindness!!! Would you all still blame Hurrem??
Yo también creo que lo hizo a propósito . Para enseñarle ella era una niña de 17 años . Y más de una vez él intenta alejarla de los problemas . Tanto en la ficción como en la realidad Suleiman amó sólo a Hurrem .
Mihardevis is so threatened by Hurrem, they always say keep your friends close but enemies closer, she was very insulting to Hurrem over caring for her child, she is a young first time Mother, where is the sympathy and understanding she needs from these so-called experienced women they are supposed to guide her x What really annoyed me was when Valide asked how Mehmet was after the birth and didn't show any concern for Hurrem. She openly admitted that she wasn't asking how she was after the birth. It's a pity Suliman is such a mummies boy and cannot see how abusive they all are towards Hurrem .
Everyone in the whole world was like this in those times. This is not abusive. This is how hard people were in the past. Therefore times back then were difficult to live in but made people stronger. Suleiman is not mama's boy. He respects his mother and this is not something (according to the standard of that time) that he should be fighting his mother for.
This was probably the last place I expected to see Taylor Swift, but hey, I'm not complaining. Especially since its from 1989 and Taylor being unpredictable and dropping Wildest Dreams Taylor's Version last Friday. Fitting.
When I want to feel badly for Valide in this show.. I remember how she treated Hurrem here and how she favored Mahedevran and so think.. what goes around comes around. I’m glad she died bitterly upset about her daughter . The way she took Mehmet from Hurrem.
Hurrem is a child, drunk on her upward climb. She doesn't deserve a friend like Gunihal. How Gunihal ever forgave her is a testament to how golden hearted Gunihal is. I'm glad they showed her growing and maturing as the series progressed.
I like these episodes when Hatice and Hurrem were friends... I don't remember how they became enemies... but Hurrem was always nice to Hatice, even saved her children and even her from depression.
SPOILER ALERT!! It started when Hürrem told Hatice that she will not have a boy or something when she was pregnant....episode around Mohacs battle....but the worst was when Hürrem falsely accused Ibrahim of having an affair and threw poison in Hatice mind. This lead to Hatice say shit against Ibrahim, which was the start of their rocky road in marriage. When Ibrahim proved his innocence, she started detesting Hürrem slowly.
But from the start we are seeing that she doesn't want hatice to get married with Ibrahim.. so how can she be a friend ... Such a selfish and disgusting lady..
@@raluca8112 We are talking about THE SERIES dear madam. We can never truly know how hurrem sultan was as a person in real life. She could either be immature and impulsive as portrayed here (which's most likely unrealistic and you know why. It's because, as far as common sense goes, impulsiveness can never take someone that far), or a silent and cunning person. Her age when entering the palace is also based on assumptions and debates amongst historical sources. It's mentioned several times by hurrem herself in the series(which is actually 60% fiction) that she was 17. So therefore, I'd be glad if you do me the honour of reading the comment properly before replying. Thank You.
watching from the 1st episode made me realise that Valide, Mahi and Ibrahim are literally responsible in turning Hurrem to such a spoil girl. Yes Hurrem being disrespectful to everyone but they can teach her some manners atleast, instead they protect Mahi and insult her. Sad life
No one will responsible. If you do something wrong. It’s your own decision and it will question by ALLAH. Same goes to Hurrem, she’s being cruel is her decision.
Your idea is ridiculous. No one is responsible for her cruelty. It's Hurrem who plans to ruin Ibrahim and Hatice's happiness. It's also her who treats her best friend impolitely. She deserves what she got.
Fr ! Hurrem was attacked and hated from the start especially from Mahi ! People don't realise that the reason why Hurrem was acting like this is because she is constantly on survival mode as everyone was trying to get rid of her and people were jealous of her ! I watched dubbed in Arabic (my first language) and now again in English.. these people were so vicious to Hurrem in this show.. no wonder She responded the way she did. If Ibrahim wasn’t so vicious to her .. even Valide three times was extremely mean to her.. first by putting her in the dungeons, then trying to marry her off.. them telling her she would get a wet nurse for get.. yet they expect a 15 year old to not retaliate.. yeah right! Home girl was good to them .. Mahedevran’s jealousy was assisted by the extreme support she received .. really she put poison in the food that your son was going to eat and YOU keep her in the palace? Telling her she ate too much and wasn’t poisoned .. yeah.. way to endear yourself to someone. Team Hurrem
she slaps gulnihal and yells in her face for betraying her when poor girl was actually ordered to do that and then decides to give suleyman a gift after he cheated on her twice, hurrem is definitely on some type of crack lmao 💀 gulnihal was the only person who defended her when she wasn’t around and when hurrem was insufferable she still stayed with her. If I had a friend like gulnihal I’d keep her very close and treat her like a diamond but it seems hurrem was the who got ‘poisoned' in that place.
Mahidevran is so manipulative and so deceitful --- She's the real snake in the harem. She's so filled with bitter rage she eventually poisons everyone around her. If not literally as when she poisoned Hurrem's food, then figuratively with her words, as she did with her son. In both cases it achieved the opposite results than what she wanted.
But Mustafa loved and trusted his mother. He grew up with his brothers who adored him. Mahidevran went with him to head his harem when he was being trained as a governor. His father had two sons - three sons who would /could have been good caliphs, and perhaps Mustafa could have been it. He was very well trained but he listened always to his mother Mahidevran first. Bad move. Later in life

In this episode, Hurrem very much acted like Mahidevran. My admiration for her stance against bullies disappeared briefly. She could've just expelled Maria out of the palace if she thought Maria would steal her womanizing husband. There was no need to physically abuse her " best friend". But then, if Maria were as clever and as bold as Hurrem, she could've fought back. Instead, she's meek and submissive -- nearly like saint but not really a saint. Suleiman would've surely "lent her his ear" if she had a wit quick enough to catch both his heart and mind , and not just the eyes. And so, she went down the flush like many other unknown concubines who made a cameo appearance in the palace and disappeared forever.
I was annoyed with her throughout the series but I never stopped supporting her because she did what she was taught. Hurrem was 15 when she became Suleiman's favorite.
Don't get me wrong Hurrem doesn't have it easy - Mahidevran, Hafsa, Ibrahim are all against her, but why should she treat Gülnihal so bad. Not to mention she wasn't being any good to her even before finding out. But let's not digress - Gülnihal as all the other girls in the harem is a slave and doesn't have any choice whether she is with the sultan or not. And no, even if she wants it I can't see why it is bad. It's bad because she has dreams and wants to be safe and cared for? I don't think so.
Suleman didn't know that maria was Hureem personal friend.....it was Abram pasha plan to hurt and get rid of Hureem...That was all their plan was to destroy Hureem because she knows about him and Hatice...They started the war..
That shows history repeats..whatever ...its one of the magnificent dramatisation and brilliant actors, acting, music, direction, photography and editing above all fantastic costumes. Love it. Would love to see on big screen.

Hurrem just wanted a family and friends. She feels threatened from all sides. She just wants to be loved and to love without people taking it away from her.
Here's Hurrem's "good friend" modeling the fur from Sueliman standing in front to Hurrem's face. She wasn't my definition of a friend. She was just another slave jealous of Hurrem. No different than the rest. Exactly
I would’ve done just the same things Hurrem did and x10 times worst. Being 17,brought up to a palace that is full with killers, intrigue etc, nobody would’ve survived no matter how strong you are. Hurrem had only Suleimans love that protected her,but other than that she had to push forward by herself. If she would sit down and behave herself, she would’ve ended up just like Mahidevran,or would be long gone!!
How could Hurrem do this to her friend? Marie was such a loyal friend, besides she had no choice but to listen to sultan. I don't understand where were the logic of those people. This is were I lost my respect for Hurrem. No shame. No guilt. Just narcissism.

Ruling through fear was an acceptable means of holding power in this time period. Hurrem created the fear factor.
She didn't have the power to expell any of the Sultan's woman

What? I can't imagine her being cruel 😢
@@rosaline953 she'll be so pathetic towards everyone including hurrem and sultan himself that you'll get a relief eventually to see her die
So Hurrem punishes her friend but treats the sultan as if he's innocent. 😩😒
She would lose her head 😂
Postpartum and Stockholm Syndrome
@@lovelydove8770 yup at its finest.
Excellent direction, throws light on the medieval aplomb of the great Ottoman Empire and its padshah Suleiman the magnificent.
Why would Sultan choose to sleep with Gulnihal when he knows that she is the companion/concubine in service of Hurrem? That's so messed up😑
because he can. Honestly Gulnihal is beautiful
He wanted Hürrem to find out...that's why he gave her the stole...Warning Hürrem of what they were doing...
Hurrem did to gulnihal what mahidevran did to her. Hurrem isnt any better than mahidevran.
Hurrem and mahidevran were never friends.
Life being with sultan it's torture. No one deserve it. So sad.
I wish they would stop putting that filter on the dowager. It's okay to grow older
HAHAHHAHHAA 😅😂😂
In the world of the harem, unfortunately, it isn't, no matter who you are.
In the world of the harem, unfortunately, it isn't, no matter who you are.
Looooool
Omg
Hurrems attitude has been crazy since first episode. And she was undoubtedly not suited well for the dynasty. She certainly ruined everything
HOW?
Just like Princess Diana.
@@cherylvergin1757 how dare you
Suleman didn't know that maria was Hureem personal friend.....it was Abram pasha plan to hurt and get rid of Hureem...That was all their plan was to destroy Hureem because she knows about him and Hatice...They started the war..
Ibrahim pasa
The scene with her mother was quite powerful
You cannot help but love the confidence and steely resolve of Hureem.
Resolve? Yes.
The diva attitude wAAY before the was truly (I mean by law) entitled to it? And her coarse, almost barbaric outbursts? Absolutely NOT.
HURREM CAN’T CONTROL HER ANGER. no longer my fav character.
That shows history repeats..whatever ...its one of the magnificent dramatisation and brilliant actors, acting, music, direction, photography and editing above all fantastic costumes. Love it. Would love to see on big screen.
Wow this Hurrem must be insane. Maria is the only friend she has but she threatens her like that. I wish she can drop her and see how she survives without anyone by her side. She is something else yho.
she had to destroy possible future competitor..
You know, I was all for Hurrem, but she's become too power hungry.
Hurrem just wanted a family and friends.
She feels threatened from all sides. She just wants to be loved and to love without people taking it away from her.
Love this episode where Hatice and Hürrem still cool with each company. Hoped they've stay cool that way.
I hope so too!
The good old days when Hatice and Hurrem were friends xD
In history they were always close
You got Hurrem character right...young n all alone she had to survive it all
How could Hurrem do this to her friend? Marie was such a loyal friend, besides she had no choice but to listen to sultan. I don't understand where were the logic of those people. This is were I lost my respect for Hurrem. No shame. No guilt. Just narcissism.
She's crazy, selfish, arrogant and more worse to mahi ..
Maria first did it she became Muslim for this ..it was marias plan
She is becoming another Mahidevran...
She adapted herself to that cruel environment. If what she was doing is wrong then others are wrong too. They have tested her patience. Well i think women should not to be blamed . In that century, women were just living for their man. And men used them like toys.
@@ofwbruneidiaries.5490 worse? She beat her up, poisoned her while she was pregnant, killed her son Mehmet etc
A bunch of mean girls, sheesh! Didn't like how Hurrem treated her best friend Maria aka Gulnihal whom was so close, caring, and loyal to her. Sad.
hurrem rose up from the ashes as a life she never dreamed of having but abuses such a gift treats to many people with contempt which later may turn the sultan against her
I used to really like Maria, she was so nice.
Until she betrayed her best friend
@@HilwaSedai She didn't betray anyone. She was just a concubine. Nothing like true love existed earlier. It was just politics. Maria could have lost her life if she refused to Sultan.
She just saved her life . And it was common to have many wives. So it shouldn't have bothered Hürrem ..
@@sehreentariq1651 it would have bothered me of my only friend became Muslim knowing it was the only way to become a sultana .. then .. going twice without telling my friend..
yeah.. she betrayed!
@@HilwaSedai she didn't. Ur friendship doesn't matter if it comes to sultan. U r liable to follow the order if u r a concubine of Sultan. They existed there for that sole purpose. Talking is easy like I wouldn't do such things to my frnd n bla bla but when it comes to losing ur life everybody pees their pants.
@@sehreentariq1651 I didn’t say no to sleeping with him.. I’m not a idiot.. neither was Hurrem. She should have told her right away. She didn’t and this is a betrayal.
With this kind of cruelty in the palace , how can you behave a good human being?
So true.. Its about survival
@@jocelynmandyuy3632 ah.. surviving doesn’t mean acting all mighty and treating everyone like their suddenly below you. Yes she may be living in a cruel place, but making everyone go against her.. she’s crazy. And surviving doesn’t mean you go all psycho. She needs help
Yes! I’m sorry for Maria but in a small (very small way) I wish it happened to Ibrahim, Sumbol, and Nigar instead as she Gulnihal allowed herself to be used by them..
I’m not a mean person but you don’t betray and not expect consequences..
@@b.tsy.4657 Hear hear!
Mahidevran was looking for trouble. She was just hurting herself . I think she can be loved by the sultan if she just be like gulfen . She should be confident because she was the first but she ruined everything.
If she had stayed quiet .. yup
What for being the first if Sultan neglects her just because of one concubine?? Sulayman the one who needs to be fair especially to Mahidevran because she is the one who his legal wife. While Hurrem is exploited and seduced Sulayman and against everyone in that harem including poisoning his own friend. If you blamed Mahidevran for her crime toward that disgraceful concubine, you should blame Hurrem for the crime he did to her own friend.
@@ReefearEapear she was not his legal wife.. he only married Hurrem.. she was his “wife” or as we call them now “baby mamma”
@Selena Maldonado I don't find anyone good here
@@ReefearEapear But didn't her friend betray her and sleep with suleyman when she was giving birth? I don't blame her for acting that way but she pissed me off what she did to her friend. I really like their friendship.
This was when Hattice was sweet kind and Innocent before Ibrahim destroyed her
The outrage some of you had in the comments when Mahidervan beat up Hurrem, where is it for when Hurrem was beating on Maria
You're absolutely right
Hurrem bots got some serious double standard issue
Esma hatun reminds me of Selena Gomez. She is sooo pretty☺
LOUISSSS
Yes! And she truly is one of the most beautiful in the harem
Hurrem logic : I can steal Sultan from Mahidevran.. But no one else has the right to do the same with me..
That sense of entitlement and narcissism.. 🤯
only doing what the evil snake mahidevran taught her :)
She is selfish and unreasonable. They are all concubines. And she wants him for herself after taking him from mahedevriam?
Why?is it wrong for a woman to want her man only to herself
You know Mahi is evil when her jealousy doesn't allow hurrem to help Hatice.
1:09 Valide says Hurrem has to be punished. Why not Mahidevran? Why always save Mahidevran. Right from the beginning she was not kind to her. She didn't let her give milk to her son. Because of the power she had, she denied Hurrem the very mother's right. Why Mahidevran never suffered like Hurrem.
The writers overdid the drama, creating so much heartache...not possible that even Validevil would do that
Of what use is external beauty when the interior of her heart is so full of jealousy, anger, revenge, and all such filthy qualities? Her interior (Hurrem’s) is just like a sewage! How can love be like that? How can love be possessive? After all she herself came like that and she fully knows Suleiman’s practices!
Right?
