    This aircraft uses the HSI for naviagtion. Tune in the VOR freq, and turn the course selector on the HSI to center the CDI, and keep it centered to stay on course. This is no ordinary -200. It has -300 flt instruments, TCAS/VSI and the -17 engines (Notice the initial 3,700 ft/min climb rate, but fuel load is light) Though the flight directors are individual controlled for each pilot still, the hdg bug and the course selectors are sync'd. Nice HD vid and clean cockpit.

    Yes. Once engaged the autopilot constantly adjusts it. Theres a toggle on the yoke as well the pilots can use to adjust it.

    I'm going to try to answer 2 questions here. 1st- the wheels at either side of the aisle stand are the pitch trim (elevator) wheels. They have handles that can be moved out to allow manual operation if the electric trim fails. 2nd- in all transport category jets I've flown, it's desirable to have all engines stabilized before setting T/O thrust. This prevents directional control problems before the rudder comes to life. The pilot flying "stands them up", that is sets the thrust levers to vertical. After all engines spool up and are symmetrically paired, you "push 'em up" or engage autothrottle for the same effect. The target in the older medium bypass engines (737-200) was about 70% of N1. The target for stabilization for the hi-bypass (737-700,800,900) is about 40% N1. Once T/O thrust is set, the pilot not flying makes call outs like: T/O thrust set, 80 kts, V1, Vr, V2. Hope that helps. I'm here for more questions. Happy Landings

    • @Vee6watchman
      @Vee6watchman 8 лет назад

      +Gerard Moran Moving to T/O, the copilot initially pulled the throttles back from vertical and yet the turbines spooled up - I thought the throttle levers operated just one-way? Also, when throttling back during climbout the pilot made an adjustment to a lever on the right of the console. What was that about? I presume that the "falling" levere on either side of the console were flap position indicators? Thank you.

    • @gerardmoran9560
      @gerardmoran9560 8 лет назад

      +Vee6watchman This copilot is new to the 73. When he began applying power he overshot the desired position. He pulled the throttles back to the correct position as the engines spooled up; jet engines respond to commands much more slowly than reciprocating engines. Then he set takeoff thrust. After liftoff he commanded "gear up" which the captain did. The captain then turned off the taxi light, wing lights and wheel well lights, turned on his flight director and selected flaps 1 as asked by the copilot.

    737-200 ! That plane I bet flew millions of passengers in its prime with a airline(s) now its putting in work in its final years of service as a cargo plane. I bet the repair bill is 6 figures a year.

    My friend is a 737 pilot....those wheels on either side of the throttles are called trim wheels...in laymans terms, they basically correct balance in flight. As the wind forces on elevatorsand alierons become greater and greater, the trim reflects that pressure allowing the plane to be more stable in flight...or at least that's what he told me :)

  • @Diablobb1000
    @Diablobb1000 12 лет назад

    @StarlightMassacre it's the trim. Autopilot uses it to stabilize

    Planes flew years without such navigation computers. It's only of the last few 10s of years such displays and computers are available. It's done by radio btowers. Plotting a flight by tracking radio transmissions such as VOR and ADF. GPS wasn't available in the 60s - 80s - mid 90s when flying across the planet ;)
