Refer to the machine manual, it should have a reference to the error you get. Check the drainage pipe, maybe it's a bit clogged.i once got the similar error at the of washing cycle and that day I threw some extra washing liquid.
apart from the salt used to de-mineralise the water, he suggested putting a magnet based filter that seems to change water properties right before supplying to the machine.
Infact dishwasher uses only 9L of water per load, when compared to hand wash which might take 30L to 45L. So its good for the environment and also pocket. Yes it take time getting a hang of it initially.

Pre rinse means , after wash, poor fellow.
Pre Rinse is to be used before washing, incase you have left the vessels in for long. It softens up the vessels for final wash. :)
