I can't begin to imagine how good that must have felt to the patient...
It is insanely painful to be removed, however the relief after the removal is at least 60% better, and within 2 days 90%
It actually hurts a ton, my mom does my ears every month cause they get clogged frequently and it hurts very bad
I imagine it would've tickled.
it doesn't hurt at all, they use suction and it does feel amazing.
i had it done as a kid several times, it was my first intense experience of ASMR or whatnot.
it's so good!
...and how well she could hear after all of a sudden...
The problem with ear wax drops instructions is they say to put the drops in your ear and tilt your head for about 2-3 minutes, and to use cotton wool to keep the drops in your ear (if needed). However, what it doesn't say (which you're supposed to do) is then immediately tilt your head the other way with a tissue and let gravity assist to let the wax-slurry come out, after a few minutes you can wipe the outer ear clean. Once I did this the drops started working a lot better - not tilting your head the reverse way keeps some of it in your ears and it makes the wax worse!

It was so satisfying to watch the contents come out so easily, I can just imagine the relief the patient felt as the final layer of dead skin peeled right off the eardrum! It was definitely a great video!

It's amazing how Sodium Bicarbonate drops work for ear wax removal.
There are too many videos where other ENT's are struggling to remove ear wax.
Exactly! If it works…use it!
The wax whisperer uses sodium bicarb
This was wonderful to watch.
I'm a popper. This scratched an itch I didn't even know I had.
Big thanks to Durhamn Hearing Specialists!!
Not only is this very educational, but also very satisfying!
I love the way how gentle you are whilst removing all the wax etc from the ears 😊
This was an incredible extraction video. The clarity and magnification of your camera are one of the best I've ever seen! Very satisfying removal! Thanks from San Francisco 💫🌟
It's interesting to remember the sheer scale of things. That one tiny drop of sodium bicarbonate is maybe as big as a tiny bit of sweat, but looks like a big puddle when it's sprayed out.
Your channel is almost a complete online wax removal course. Incredible information! Well done!
Thanks Vik!
I'll bet the patient was extremely happy after this procedure. Good job, Doc!
I can only imagine the relief after having all the skin debris cleaned out
Lowkey in love with this doctor now! 8 nights just randomly watching ear wax removal narrations now. Weird rabbit hole LOLZ
Same! The Toe Bro too! grosser but still addicting 🤣
Lmao same I know it's bedtime when I start watching him 😂
Thanks, Connor, for another inside look into your world. I'm sure your students appreciate what you put out in You Tube. If nothing else it is a constant referral for them to access. I'm glad you're doing so much teaching, you certainly have a flare for it.
Thanks Therese

@@viviennejordan215 Thank you. Connor has a great way of informing those of us who are fascinated with the world of audiology.
Tip of the iceberg
He is profeasor?? He looks more like student. Do i don't know do you knead medical scholl-college you got totaly diferent sistem of education. He had not more then 30 how then he can be proffesor? So confusing 😮
Your voice really helps me sleep and with my diagnosed insomnia that's really saying something, so thank you
i watch several audiologists in the UK & what i’ve learned is that each one finds what works best for them, whether it’s drops or tools, the consistency of the skin/wax they are working on and their experience; that’s really what is most important. Neel is like you, sodium bicarbonate for skin at the appt . if used prior it’s too slushy, plus the patient doesn’t know if they have skin or wax. most like olive oil for wax. forceps only if it’s really hard & u have room to get the right grip, otherwise it’s not useful. i learn best by watching, observing & this is what i’ve learned from all of you. all are amazing audiologists. i wish they would use suction here in the states. my neighbor had her ears flushed & they got a lot out but her one ear hurt worse & while she hears better it’s not as good as the other ear. i have a feeling they flushed some into her one of the recesses & is pushing on her ear drum, not allowing it to fully vibrate. idk any where here she can go to get it treated properly. if i were rich i’d fly us across the pond and get her ear suctioned properly. of course i’m guessing based on all the videos i’ve seen and how much wax can be in the recesses.
I am in NC & my ear doctor uses a suction gadget to get the wax out
When they flush Her ear, do they sometimes use Suction also, to get any excess water out. If He/She turns that ear to the floor, any excess should come out. Use a tissue to catch it. Do the same, Any time water gets in the ear, showering, swimming. Do the same after drops have bn used, let them soak for a few minutes, then turn head to the floor, with a tissue underneath.
I have used hydrogen peroxide while lying on my side and let it sit for a while. I repeat it as the bubbling slows. It bubbles the wax to the surface. I do tip that ear to the floor and catch any liquid with a napkin or tissue. I have done this on my kids also. I am not a doctor, so I am not giving medical advice.
That was brilliant. I worry that the ear canal might get damaged if that was attempted by someone that wasn’t a proper ear specialist. Very delicate.
Wow that was huge. I’m not surprised the patient was having such hearing issues very interesting video as always. Thank you Connor 🙏🏼
Thanks Jasmin

I had once similar case. The eardrops said tilt your had and stay in that position minimum for one minute!.. End of instruction! It literally did not said what to do after that, so I just liad down and started watching a RUclips video and fall asleep. It did not helped, but it was the first time, so I just keep repeating the process (not the falling asleep part). All the wax flowed down and got solidified on my eardrum, of course I end up at the doctors office next week.
I look forward to your videos each time. As a retired NP it’s always nice to watch superb medical videos and yours fall into the superb categories for sure.
The effect of those drops is amazing. My son has lots of ear issues, but can't use sodium bicarb or over the counter drops in one ear as it causes him severe pain instantly. His eardrum ruptured when he was little, and his consultant repaired it with a skin graft (there was only the edges of the drum left). Sadly that burst too. I assume it hasn't repaired as that is the ear he can't tolerate drops in. Also when he's had a cold and his ear is blocked, he can sometimes clear it when blowing his nose. Hoping an ENT appointment will come through soon for him.
Me, too. That's terrible that it ruptured the whole ear drum. I worry for my nephew. His ear drum was ruptured by a Q-tip. Somehow he got a hold of one in his sister's car and when she hit a hard pothole it jammed it in. Pretty soon his older nephew asked why blood was coming out of his ear. Oh my gosh, I was horrified.
@@saritataylor4235 oh god, that sounds horrible and very painful. Hope he is better.
@@saritataylor4235oh sh**!!! I never use a q tip deep into my ear now... only on the outer part of the hole where earwax can be visible.
@@20PINKluvr you're never supposed to put a q tip in your inner ear in the first place, best case it does nothing, more often it just shoves wax deeper.
I used to swim in the ocean and I once had a ragged piece of shell get attached to my eardrum. I developed a lot of pain but being young I ignored it til one day I woke up with blood on my pillow and went to a doctor and he mentioned my eardrum had ruptured - I am now unable to do deep sea diving or get water in my ear as it gets infected. I guess It didn’t heal like it once was healthy. Any drops or water will cause horrendous pain. My ENT’s don’t believe me and they all say it looks healed.
For someone afraid to see a doc regarding this, let me tell you since I've gone myself to deal with blocked ears:
If your ear is full, but not blocked (you can still hear relatively good; this is what my right ear was) its not an issue whatsoever. My doc pulled out an entire chunk as big as a pen head with no problems within one minute, no pain, no scratches, nothing...
The issue starts if it sits directly on your eardrum and deafens you (like w my left) My doc wasn't able to break that down even after 4 minutes of mining away with oil and water. It will also start to hurt if you poke too much. Got a prescription for salt/oil-eardrops, have to use them for 2 weeks. After that: back to my doc and try again.
Never been to such ear canal cleaning before in my life, watched you to brace myself for what awaits me.
I have no fear anymore
There is a spray product you can buy for prevention which softens and helps clear the wax immediately. . I suffered for decades with blocked ears . I just use the spray once a month in the shower, takes about 2 minutes in total. Havent had an issue for years.

Love this Connor. I learn so much from you. Watching this and older videos on my new 65inch tv!! Its a whole new experience!! Definitely my fave audiologist 💜
Thankyou for watching!
Wow, I can't imagine how Fantastic that would be. I watch on my 4" phone screen, lol. Must be like being in another Dimension, in the First Row of the Cinema! 'Fantastic Voyage' comes to mind, Great Film, the Special Effects were Something at that time. Scientists miniaturized to perform brain surgery inside the President's? Body. They got out by way of a teardrop. They don't make films like that anymore.
The Sodium Bicarbonate looks like an easier way to use when softening the earwax or cleaning up the fungal debris in the ears. Thank you for sharing your vlogs. You are an articulate audiologist and have the long patience to clean up the ears of your patients. More power to you.
Nice video, Connor. Plus, the explanation of Sodium Bicarbonate at work was amazing.
Thanks Mike
Thanks to your videos i bought an ear washer. I cleaned my kids ears because at school they use headphones a lot, especially my 2 teen daughters. It was a life saver because they can hear better now and so do I. 😊
I love this kind of skin/wax extractions. And the longer the peel the better. Thanks

Great job, Conor. Skin peels are my favorite type of removal. Thank you so much for sharing. Take care.
This is the most satisfying ear wax extraction video I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe the size of the stuff coming out!

My jaw DROPPED at that first big section coming out! Incredible work!

Huge peels! It surprises me how controversial sodium bicarb seems to be. It has very specific uses where it's wonderful, and you demonstrated that perfectly in this video. Cheers, Connor!👍
Thanks Pat
I do not understand my fascination with ear cleaning videos, but they are so satisfying to watch.

I could feel that big piece coming out of my own ear. That looked like it felt sooooo good.
Hi Connor. That was fascinating. You make it look so east. No wonder poor patient couldn't hear. Great job
Thanks Ellen
When you pull that big earwax chunks, that's really satisfying
Very satisfying! Lovely video mate!
Good work, Connor, as always. Thanks to you and your lovely client! 🌟
Thank you, it was very interesting. You did a great job of getting it out basically with one pull.
And like you said the patient must have used softening something, with his head tilted, for it to build up on the ear drum like that.
It's odd but I can watch these videos all day no problems... but eating cornflakes at the same time..gave me the ick!!! So had to pause till i finished... but how satisfying and beautifully filmed is this.. I'm a fan!😊
Great video, Conner! Love the skin peels & great explanation of bicarb’s magic! Thanks!
That first pull was heavenly!
So satisfying. Great video
Thanks
It probably is a 'soaking a hardened solid' thing, but sodium bicarb definitely is a base, it's pH is around 8 and cerumen has a slightly acidic pH.
There's probably some neutralizing hydrolysis reactions happening at the skin/cerumen interface because of the wetting AND the pH action.
I'll have to do some reading on this, thanks for that. :D
It's the same process used to make soap!
I have eczema otitis and get frequent fungal infections. I've been getting them for decades. The most effective thing has been getting regular cleanings and in between I use a mixture of rubbing alcohol and white distilled vinegar in conjunction with csf powder (antibiotic, antifungal, and steroid). I'm not a Dr., but this is advice from someone who is intimately familiar with ear infections.
I use the vinegar, alcohol mixture after I submerge my head in any body of water.
That was very satisfying to see! One question I have is when it comes to inserting the drops in the patient's ears, in this case the sodium bicarbonate, do you have more than one method of inserting them in the patient's ear canal? To me, it looked like you did, but I don't want to assume anything.
I insert the little metal funnel into the ear canal and squirt the drops in there, means I can use one bottle for several patients. If the bottles nearly finishes I just pour it in
This was so-good, I am here 5-months later watching a re-run!
Any concerns around the usual PH of the ear canal (when coated in wax as it should be) vs PH of bicarb? I'd seen another source suggest wax is slightly acidic as a natural defence and if you neutralise that with bicarb (slightly alkaline?) then you may be open to infection.
He's the doctor. Once in a little while won't hurt. It can cause infection if you do it all the time.
Considering you only do this if your ear got blocked with wax in the first place, I'm sure it will recover promply by going back to overproducing wax that doesn't fall out properly many more times to come...
I've watched a lot of videos from different Audiologists, but yours are quite different and look comfortable for the patient. The Sodium Bicarbonate looks better to use instead of the olive oil. The Sodium Bicarbonate soften the airwax and, at the same time, sterilizing the ear canal.
Thank you so much for sharing your vlogs.
Take care.
Hi from Seattle! In your sodium bicarbonate solution, what is the sodium bicarbonate-to-water ratio? Just curious as to how strong the solution is (and I'm not a chemistry major, so I'll need that in layperson's terms, lol)...
I second this comment! I need the recipe!
What a weird rabbit hole to fall down. Is it weird that these videos make my mouth water?
Hi Connor, do you think sodium bicarbonate ear drops are more useful than water? And do you use the commercially available 5% drops or something else? I also wondered whether you found it drying after repeated use, presumably because the water can evaporate and leave a coating of sod bicarb over the skin.
The sodium bicarbonate reacts with acids in the dead skin to form co2 and residuals and will be completely neutralized with next to none left.
@@steveshea7725 even if this weren't the case, healthy ear produces wax that slowly drifts outwards, dries and falls out in small chunks, that's how ear remains clean, anything goes... From my experience the falling part happens when chewing food because as always nature can't stop trolling organisms with stupidest designs ever.
Please kindly continue posting your much appreciated videos
How does a patient use bicarb or oil ear drops without causing this issue where the soft wax sludge slides deeper into the ear?
Hi Conor 🤗hope you're going okay 👍This was a very challenging case..especially knowing that you had cleaned them out not long ago. Thanks for sharing Conor and take care ❤️

Dear Conor thank you so much for your educational video. I look forward to videos each time with patience Would applying sodium bicarbonate ear drops in such a manner work with keratosis obturans? That was very satisfying. Hope the patient got their full hearing back
nobody cares for the explanation, but your videos are very relaxing, thanks!
This was SO satisfying to watch, and to hear the thought process behind it.
That is so satisfying. I wish i could get that procedure done. I vet that patient felt absolutely fantastic after that. Apparently homemade recipe is 1/4 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate to 10mls water. Not sure how to remove the wax after application. Perhaps a water flush with head tilted
I really enjoy watching this for some reason. Keep up the good work!

Oh... I like that suction tool. Also, I often do peroxide + rinsing with antiseptic. It works well. I checked with endoscope. And it doesn't hurt.
I really do enjoy your videos, my understanding of my ears have greatly increase since watching. Your work is Outstanding!!’
That sheet coming out intact was incredible to watch.
Is the fungle harmful to the ear?
I believe that the bubbling is a heat reaction, which helps melt the wax so you can get it out.
That was a very satisfying procedure to watch! i have had issues with was build up and had to go into the doctor's office a couple times to have it flushed out. I have been able to manage it with Sodium Bicarbonate drops and surprisingly regular fish oil supplements help loosen the ear wax.
