If you put a frame in that old bathroom mirror it could be a nice decor for another part of the house and you get to keep something. Nice conversation piece. Looking forward to all your videos. Lots of love from Florida.
That light is not a visible light, it is an infra-red heat lamp. It's a heater. For the bolt/screw, get a €1.50 / 30cm hacksaw blade, wrap a bit of tape around one end to use as a handle, and you have a flexible thin blade you can slide in for a fraction of the cost of a reciprocating saw. It'll only take a minute to get through a screw.
When a screw head strips if you have access to a Dremel tool carve a slot into the top of the shaft to fit a flat blade screwdriver. A vise-grip or pliers on the screwdriver handle often provides enough leverage to shock the screw loose.
That is indeed a heater and a reminder that it really gets cold in that area so make preparations for winter. There's a bathroom supplier near me that has new old stock of those funky green toilet and bidet.
Hi. Good job, thumbs up! I love the wallpaper with the pink leaves and that little mirror, don't throw it away, it's so pretty it's an antique mirror. There is a product to loosen the screws, I don't know if they sell it in Portugal, it's called WD-40, spray a little, wait a few hours and try again, maybe it works, but not always
The pink wallpaper is really fun, but we aren't sure yet, if we want to be that bold. Miguel will try some wd-40, because he has some, but didn't think of it at the time. Thanks for the reminder.
The light you removed would have made for a great cyberpunk or film noir kind of bathroom (especially if it'd be flickering a bit and buzzing a faintly). You know, the kind where you'd stand in front of a mirror, wearing flanel shorts you slept in and a tank-top, shaving with a straight razor. 😄 This being said, your ideas for the bathrooms look quite promising. I can't wait (as you must be too) to see those rooms all redesigned!
lol cyberpunk is one way to go, but not sure about everyday life. Think that style looks good in the movies. We can't wait to get started and eventually finish it!
@@RootsandRestorations You're right: a bit too depressing on a daily basis. Anyway, hang in there! You'll have an adorable heartwarming place very soon! 😉
Just met you guys recently when you moved to Portugal, found myself having to subscribe so I can see what you get up to. You guys are adorable. Usually I just watch, but since you asked, I am in favour of the wall paper with the pink monstera leaves for the small bathroom. You might as well go all in with color and style. You're doing a good job so far, keep up the momentum. It was nice to see you. Thanks for having me over.
You've made a good start on that bathroom already. The one I'm renovating is tiled in a style I really REALLY dislike, but I can't justify wasting the time and resources it would take to replace something that's undamaged and functional, even if I don't like it. I think I'm realising that when you have a lot of rooms to do, you pick your battles.
Yes, we'll have to pick some of the battles with a big house like ours. The bathrooms really need to be redone, there are some serious issues with the plumbing. Agree, if things are still functional, there's no need to replace it.
cutting bolts is best done with a disc blade attached to a grinder (is that what we call them in the USA?) A hacksaw would work with a lot of muscle power. I don't think a Sawzall is for metal like that. You might wish to paint the ceiling a light and cheerful white. Huge chore sanding them and it might not look better than white paint. Combining the bathrooms is a good idea, or you can have just a sink and shower in one and a toilet and sink in the other. In France I have a bathroom without a toilet (in a tiny room next door) and it seems fine. If you want more room in the shower area. Always good to have a bathtub somewhere in the house. People with kids and dogs like them and sometimes a soak is nice. Much better video than the last. cheers!
Will be nice to decorate the interior of your bathroom with potted plants🪴, deodorizers, photo frames, colorful waterproof wallpapers, etc for large bathrooms. The product tag is still attached to your wrench. 🔧 LOL
GREEN TOILET = 1- If you don't keep the toiler, break the ceramic around the screw, then use anti luck oil (WD-40 types) and plyers 2- OR purchase a screw remover, it's a drill bit that you use to drill and pierce a whole inside the screw 3- Locking plyers (will be useful on other projects) it's plyers that locks in position with a spring in it, it firmly grasp the screw and won't budge until unlocked, 80% of screw will follow locked plyers. BEST OF LUCK.
Use locking plyers every week on something. Good idea. Also like your ideas for removing the bold. Some people slip a pipe over the wrench handle to gain leverage and loosen the bolt. I thought of a cutting disc on a grinder. Is that what they are called?
@@quicknumbercrunch8691 Going trough a bold with a cutting disc takes for ever, but you can cut 1/3 of the bold to weaken it, and then use plyers or a hammer to break the bold. I'm way too lazy for that LOL Screw remover drill bits takes 5 seconds. Drill in, take it out, BIG time saver.
I wonder if you need a work permit to open a window in an exterior wall. I doubt anyone will report you to the municipality (since it does not look over their property) but when you wish to sell it might be a hitch if the municipal papers do not show a window. You can do everything else and when approved, cut out the window.
Good point! That's something worth checking. We learned that you can change pretty much anything inside a house without a permit, but that the exterior (especially when it faces the road), will most likely need a permit.
Why not keep the bathroom as they are and put a shower um One and a bathtub in the other It's less expensive than take a wall down And less time consuming😊 I strongly bealive on this
Finding this interesting to see what you do and you adapting to new country and your new home
i like the mushroom wallpaper much more than the leaves :) great start guys!
Yes, we like them both, that is why it is hard to decide. We will have to see when the space is ready for the final touches.
Great job at keeping to reuse.
Yes, we will try to reuse anything we can!

Great idea! We put it on a picture wall with some other cool art we have from our travels.

Hello fearless couple ! You keep moving forward with humor and optimisme. Continued good luck. Take care !❤❤❤
Thank you! You too!
That's not a lamp. That's a heater. (at 7:56)
yeah, it's an old halogen heater. it was common on bathrooms in the old days.
That's what we realized when we took it off and took a closer look.

So exciting! Can’t wait to see how it all goes and I hope you choose the mushroom wallpaper! ❤️
If you are using wallpaper in a small bathroom the huge monstera leaves would be overpowering, but it is your house and ultimately your choice. ❤️🙏

Na parede não era lâmpada. Era um aquecedor para o inverno aquecer

Haha, yes, it was still attached. I took it off now. We definitely want plants in there. Frames with photos or art would be cool too.

Yes, we took a closer look at it and it is a heater lamp

Papel de parede no wc?! Com águas?
This will be a half-bathroom, so no shower, which means not much water in that room.
You have so much space and big house...so dont put your laundry in the bathroom
