Welcome to a very relaxing and cosy one hour swatching session. During parts of the filming there was a storm raging outside, and I love that you can hear the wind and rain on the window. Grab a drink and some snacks (and your notepad!) and take a moment to enjoy the video, or put me on in the background while you work and I'll keep you company. You'll see a range of beautiful inks from Robert Oster, Herbin, Rohrer and Klingner, Liquitex and Diamine. I'll also swatch some Turner Acryl Gouache paints and Ecoline brush pens. Thank you for joining me while we take a look at these gorgeous new colours.

I'm pretty familiar with the SketchInks and they are pretty fine in fountain pens. I have had some hard starts in my safari if I left it too long but generally just dip the pen in water and hold a paper towel against it and it will flow again. That is usually plenty. The sketchinks do settle so they benefit from shaking. The safari is an easy pen to clean so it's a good one to use with these inks. If you get a twsbi pen they are also good because they have such good caps with a rubber gasket that there is hardly any evaporation so you can leave your pens lying around longer without worry.

I'm here at the end of yet another lovely video. Your swatching videos are always such a joy to watch and listen to,and they are so insightful because you explain why you chose the colours and how you will use them in your work and it also shows you real good eye for colour. The ecoline pens are great under colour pecil as they add a kind of luminisity to the colour pencil, I discovered too that the the japanesque acrylic gouache because of it's texture is also amazing to add colour pencil over the top of because the texture grips the pecil i place and create quite an intersting texture..I think you you will really love the glass dip pen,I love mine, they feel nice to hold as you work with them. Inks are a staple in my chache hand hve been for yaers now,so its great to see them featuring more in your amazing work. The Lammy Safari pen is a great pen I have one myself and it's great for drawing, as you can get a good variation of line and you can get different nibs for them too. I love the Diamine inks as well, they are rreally vibrant and are affordable too. Just a thought maybe you could swatch the derwent drawing white on a piece of black paper,as this would show its opacity really well. Can't wait for he watercolour swatching!. Diamine make a range of inks that have mica flakes in them so they have a sheen when dry and I love these..Inks a great for pieces you want to scan to make prints of. I love how you describe the colours as you are swatching them, your real love of colour always shines in these swatching videos which is really lovely to haer and inspiring for us too. (matt) P.s I always wonde if a paint or ink company will watch your brilliant videos and create a paint colour and name it after you a "Natasha Bue" or "Natasha Green" as you ofteen say that some of the colours are a very natasha Newton colour,it wouls be wondeful l if some one picked up on tis and created some colours for you..

I enjoyed this to the end. Something about dip pens: if you rotate them slightly while writing, you don't have to redip as often. As to fountain pens: it is easy to ruin the nib if you use thicker, multi-media paper. Fibers get stuck between the tines and the nib will wear unevenly. Use them on 52 gsm or thinner paper. LAMY is a workhorse pen but fountain pens are designed for writing.

Ecoline usually are water-soluble and staining. On almost all papers you need to work with the marker strokes in my experience. The ecoline line caught my attention when Calligraphy masters in a YT video used the ecoline inks in combination with a poster nib and the ecoline brush pen.
    I was mesmerized.

The Safari was the first fountain pen I bought, it's a workhorse. It's super consistent and reliable, and unlike my pricier pens, I don't feel anxious carrying it around out of the house. The only caveat is that western-made nibs are broader in general than Japanese-made nibs and I work pretty much exclusively with EF nibs in my art so I don't much use it for drawing, rather I use it for writing. It's personal preference but it's something to bear in mind if you're particular about line weights. I didn't know there was a difference until I'd already bought a couple western pens and was disappointed with the extra fine. The Pilot Metropolitan is a highly rated inexpensive Japanese fountain pen, and in general Pilot makes my favorite fountain pens. I would recommend the Pilot Falcon for flex nibs but it's pretty pricey (~$180 US) because it's a gold nib pen. If you want to invest in a pen though, I do highly recommend it. I'm more attached to my Falcon EF than I am to some people, it's the only pen I use in my art now. I swear by it.

I made it to the end! Just wanted to let you know I use Liquitex inks with my dip pen. I draw ink drawings and then paint with watercolour

You should get Platinum Carbon Ink (black) for your safari pen. It’s what I use. It’s completely water proof once it dries so you can use watercolor and markers over it and it’s a nice black. I adore it.

When I am spending too much money on art supplies, I am going to blame you Natasha! 😉 I’ve already bought some Schmincke’s granulating colors and the Rembrandt Dusk Green and I am only a beginning hobbyist…. where is this going….! 😄

I have a Verdigris ink that I thought would be more green as well-the brand is Schreibtinte, also from Rohrer & Klinger-but I love it anyway. It’s a beautiful color and my main fountain pen ink. Enjoy your new inks!

    I'm here at the end!
Great video as usual. I love glass dip pens, I got my first one in a shop in Covent garden (sadly no longer there) in the mid 90s. Loving inks at the moment too, might I recommend trying a Diamine Inkvent ink. I have the shade Holly which is a green ink but dries with a red side, impossible to describe!

Beautiful inks! I have the liquitex muted gray and it’s my absolute favourite. If you liked the teal from diamine, you may consider getting the muted turquoise too, it’s similar. And I also just found out the other day that ecoline pens are refillable! You just remove the tip and fill in with ecoline ink from the bottle, isn’t that neat?

I've heard this about the Ecoline pens but I couldn't work out how to get into them! Thanks for letting me know. :)
